Performance Evaluation of Routing Protocols for Vehicle Re-Routing in ITS-based Vehicular Networks

This study aims to assess the performance of routing protocols in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)-based vehicular networks, specifically in accident and highway scenarios. The effective management of traffic flow in these situations is crucial for ensuring the safety and smooth operation of vehicular networks. Therefore, it is imperative to evaluate routing protocols to identify the most suitable one for these scenarios. The evaluation considers various commonly used routing protocols in vehicular networks, including Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV), Ad hoc On-Demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV), and Destination-Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV). The evaluation is based on several performance metrics, such as packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, network throughput, normalized routing load, and routing overhead. These metrics provide insights into the effectiveness and efficiency of the routing protocols in handling re-routing in accident and highway scenarios. The research is divided into two modules, Module I and Module II, to evaluate the effectiveness of routing protocols in these distinct scenarios using the NS2 simulation tool. The simulation results are analyzed and compared to determine the performance of the routing protocols in each module. The findings indicate that AODV consistently achieves the highest throughput, packet delivery ratio, and lowest end-to-end delay, routing overhead, and normalized routing load, followed by AOMDV and then DSDV. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different routing protocols in accident and highway scenarios. This knowledge can assist in the development of more efficient and reliable routing protocols for vehicular networks.

Performance Evaluation of Routing Protocols in Enterprise Networks

This paper evaluates the performance of routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP and IS-IS in an enterprise network. Routing protocols are rules that govern the best route to transfer data between various nodes in networks. These rules are used in the transmission of information from the transmitting end to the receiving end. Routing protocol's main responsibility lies in determining the best way routers communicate with each other in order to forward any kind of network traffic using the optimal path. The evaluation of routing protocols was achieved by measuring packet end-to-end delay, packet delay variation, Jitter, Ethernet delay, traffic sent and received parameters by employing OPNET simulator software using Http, Video conferencing and Voice data types. The results shows that OSPF_IS-IS combined protocols outperforms the of OSPF_EIGRP and OSPF protocols by 60%.

Performance Evaluation of routing protocols with and without malicious nodes

Vehicular adhoc networks (VANETs) are made by applying the standards of mobile adhoc networks (MANETs)-the unconstrained making of a remote network of cell phones to the area of vehicles. VANETs were first referenced and presented in 2001 under ”vehicle to-vehicle specially appointed versatile correspondence and systems administration” applications, where networks can be shaped and data can be handed-off among vehicles. It was shown that vehicle-to- vehicle and vehicle-to-road side exchange designs will exist together in VANETs to give street security, route, and other side of the road administrations. VANETs are a vital piece of the intelligent transportation frameworks (ITS) system. At times, VANETs are known as Intelligent Transport Networks. They are perceived as having advanced into a more extensive “Web of vehicles”. Which itself is relied upon to eventually advance into a “Web of self-sufficient vehicles”. The vehicles send some data about street status and traffic. But sometimes the information send from one vehicle to another can be malicious. This malicious information is added by the intruders to cause problem in vehicular network so that accident can occur. In this report, we will analyse the throughput, packet delivery ratio and end to end delay in sending information from vehicle to vehicle when the network is attacked by some malicious nodes.

Performance Evaluation of Routing Protocols for Opportunistic Networks: An Energy Efficiency Perspective

In most computer networks, a path between a sending node and the destination node is requiredto transfer data. There are instances where such a path for communication may not exist, suchas in space communications, and the standard message routing techniques will not work. OpportunisticNetworks were developed to solve this problem. Infrastructure-less Opportunistic Networks(OppNets) are a type of Delay Tolerant Networks where nodes in the network are responsible forforwarding messages to the destination nodes under the constraints of intermittent connectivity, dynamictopology changes, and non-guarantee of an end-to-end path. Various routing protocols weredeveloped for OppNets; however, these routing protocols are energy-inefficient, and this is a problembecause devices that are used in OppNets are usually battery-powered. In this project, newenergy-efficient routing protocols for OppNets, namely, E FirstContactRouter, E WaveRouter, EFloatingContentRouter and E LifeRouter were developed from their energy-inefficient base routingprotocols, namely FirstContactRouter, WaveRouter, FloatingContentRouter and LifeRouter. Theenergy-efficient routing protocols were compared against their energy-inefficient base protocols andother developed energy-efficient routing protocols, namely E-Prophet, E-Epidemic, E-MaxProp andE-Spray&Wait routing protocols. The energy metrics that we used to do the tests were the numberof dead nodes and the average remaining energy. Simulations were carried out using the OpportunisticNetwork Environment (ONE) simulator and it was discovered that the proposed energy-awarerouting protocols outperform their non-energy-aware counterparts in terms of the above-mentionedperformance metrics.

A Comparative Performance Evaluation of Routing Protocols for Flying Ad-Hoc Networks in Real Conditions

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are widely used in our modern society and their development is rapidly accelerating. Flying Ad Hoc Networks (FANETs) have opened a new window of opportunity to create new value-added services. However, the characteristics that make FANETs unique, such as node mobility, node distance, energy constraints, etc., imply that several guidelines need to be considered for their successful deployment. Although numerous routing protocols have been proposed for FANETs, due to the wide range of applications in which FANETs can be applied, not all routing protocols can be used. Due to this challenge, after breaking down and classifying the different types of existing routing protocols for FANET, this paper analyzes and compares the performance of several routing protocols (Babel, BATMAN-ADV, and OLSR) in terms of throughput and packet loss in a real deployment composed of several UAV nodes using 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi networks. The results show that Babel achieves better performance in the studied metrics than OLSR and BATMAN-ADV, while BATMAN-ADV delivers significantly lower performance. This experimental study confirms the importance of choosing the proper routing protocol for FANETs and their performance evaluation, something that will be extremely important in a few years when this type of network will be common in our day-to-day life.

VANETs are similar to Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), but they have fast speeds, mobility, adequate storage and processing power, unexpected node density, difficult communication environments with limited connection lifespans, etc. Hence, VANET protocol testing needs realism. Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) is a new communication paradigm that allows road network V2V and V2I communication (V2I). It supports traffic engineering, emergency information transfer, and other user applications. Vehicular networks distribute data about road traffic conditions to keep vehicles safe and efficient. VANET Applications' characteristics—different network density, fast vehicle movement—make data dissemination difficult. Performance requirements determine these protocols' vehicle area network applicability. Vehicles talking with each other and roadside units constitute Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs), a specific type of MANET (RSUs). VANETs allow safety, traffic management, and infotainment. Energy Consumption Evaluation of ZBLE, AOMDV and AODV Routing Protocols in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

Background / Objective: Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) creates a transient network that does not depend on any infrastructure or central administration mechanism. Such networks are made up of wireless mobile nodes. These nodes have to rely on batteries due to lack of stable power supply, so energy consumption is considered one of the main difficulties of this type of network. These nodes change their positions immediately, so the battery is depleted very suddenly, which affects network life. The best routing can be achieved by improving network quality, keeping high energy in mind by multipath routing in ad hoc networks using zone-based technology. The main objective of this research is to evaluate some popular performance metrics with energy efficiency. In this research, the zone-based leader Election Energy-Constructed AOMDV Routing Protocol (ZBLE) has been compared to the traditional routing protocols AODV and AOMDV, suggesting that the ZBLE protocol exhibits better results. Methods / Statistical analysis: In this paper, the routing protocol ZBLE based on zone-based technique is used. In this, the leader node is selected using the node's energy label, power analysis, and node position tracking function. The best route has been achieved by the leader node selection algorithm and power analysis. Conclusion: Most energy-related protocols are based on single-route routing, which has not been able to pay much attention to the accumulation of energy, and there have been attempts to make multi-way routing protocols also energy-based protocols, but also these protocols have been unable to make good use of energy. Through the NS2 simulator, network life is extended by reducing energy consumption by using a new energy-based multi-way routing protocol ZBLE. The results of this routing protocol performance evaluation suggest that the ZBLE protocol is superior to the AOMDV and AODV protocols. It is a zone-based technique that works by concentrating on the highest energy of nodes. Simulation results reported that the performance of ZBLE outperformed that of AOMDV and AODV. Applications / improvements: Zone-based technology can be easily used for extremely large networks. Ad-hoc network performance has been improved by improving network quality using this protocol.

Wireless networks are comprised of nodes which are high in mobility and are adhoc natured where centralized access point is not required. Each node will have particular transmission range in which the data transmits from source to destination in that transmission range. Route construction for transmission of data from source to destination is tough due to high node mobility and dynamic nature of network. Many routing protocols are proposed and implemented in networks to reduce such mobility and dynamic difficulties for route construction. These routing protocols construct a route from source to destination based on availability of network nodes. Adhoc On demand Distance vector (AODV) is a self-starting dynamic network, Dynamic source routing (DSR) and Temporally Ordered Routing Algorithm (TORA) are most frequent used ones for dynamic route construction. Voice and Video are two mostly used applications nowadays as the users are immensely using them. In this paper, a comparison is made in performances of AODV, DSR and TORA for the traffics of voice and video. The performance is evaluated in terms of delay, throughput and packet delivery ratio. Simulations are conducted using network simulator NS 2.35.

Swarm intelligence work on artificial intelligence which is defined as collective behavior of self organized but centralized system. Movie effect, swarm robotics and network routing are applications of swarm intelligence. Vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is also self controlled, high dynamic network system. Road safety and traffic management are the main applications of VANETs. If we integrate swarm intelligence with VANETs, it will show outstanding results in terms of latency, throughput, data delivery cost and ratio. There are some issues in VANETs like data aging, heavy cost and message prioritization which can be solved with the help of swarm intelligence. In this paper, we will come across some good results in VANET when we apply some algorithm of swarm intelligence. There are some algorithms of swarm intelligence that can be applied in VANETs like artificial bee colony and AntNet. Swarm intelligence can be implemented in multicasting and data center routing. Moreover, we will also analysis AODV, DSR routing protocol with the smarm intelligence routing protocol in the network.

Performance Evaluation of AODV Routing Protocol in VANET with NS2

In intelligent transportation systems, the collaboration between vehicles and the road side units is essential to bring these systems to realization. The emerging Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is becoming more and more important as it provides intelligent transportation application, comfort, safety, entertainment for people in vehicles. In order to provide stable routes and to get good performance in VANET, there is a need of proper routing protocols must be designed. In this paper, we are working with the very well-known ad-hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol. The existing Routing protocol AODV-L which is based on the Link expiration time is extended to propose a more reliable AODV-AD which is based on multichannel MAC protocol. For the performance evaluation of routing protocols, a simulation tool ‘NS2’ has been used. Simulation results show that the proposed AODV-AD protocol can achieves better performances in forms of high Route stability, Packet Delivery ratio and packet loss rate than traditional AODV-L and traditional AODV.

Performance evaluation of MANET on the basis of Knowledge Base Algorithm

The selection of the optimal path between the two nodes is a fundamental issue that arises in mobile ad hoc network (MANETs). In order to reduce the latency, packet delivery ratio (PDR) and overhead, certain methods are advocated that improves the route efficiency by selection of the most stable path. In this paper we found the optimal path using knowledge base algorithm. It is the path in which the header node is having the highest average sum of header numbers and we also proposed performance evaluation of routing protocols. We analysed that the Packet delivery ratio(PDR) and Throughput is found satisfactory as compared to the conventional techniques.

Performance Evaluation of Routing Protocols in a Wireless Sensor Network for Targeted Environment

This paper investigates the performance of reactive and proactive routing protocols in a wireless sensor network for targeted enviroment. AODV and DSR are chosen as representatives for the reactive routing protocols and DSDV for the proactive. A wireless sensor network application for farm cattle monitoring is created. The proposed solution meets a desired requirement for periodically observing the condition of each individual animal, processing the gathered data and reporting it to the farmer. However, an implementation of a WSN needs to meet particular technical challenges before it can be suitable to be applied in cattle management. For this, multiple scenarios are presented with various situations to evaluate the performance of routing protocols in the WSNs. Finally, the results concerning data transportation from the mounted sensory devices to the mobile nodes are discussed and analyzed.

Performance Evaluation of Routing Protocols for Video Conference over MPLS VPN Network

Nowadays video conferencing is a highly demanding facility in order to its real time characteristics, but faster communication is the prior requirement of this technology. Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP Virtual Private Network (VPN) addresses this problem and it is able to make a communication faster than others techniques. However, this paper studies the performance comparison of video traffic between two routing protocols namely the Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF). The combination of traditional routing and MPLS improve the forwarding mechanism, scalability and overall network performance. We will use GNS3 and OPNET Modeler 14.5 to simulate many different scenarios and metrics such as delay, jitter and mean opinion score (MOS) value are measured. The simulation result will show that OSPF and BGP-MPLS VPN offers best performance for video conferencing application

Recently, Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standardized a powerful and flexible routing protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL). RPL is a routing protocol for low power and lossy networks in the Internet of Things. It is an extensible distance vector protocol, which has been proposed for low power and lossy networks in the global realm of IPv6 networks, so it selects the routes from a source to a destination node based on certain metrics injected into the objective function (OF). There has been an investigation of the performance of RPL in the lighter density network. This study investigates the performance of RPL in medium density using of two objective function in various topologies (e.g. grid, random). The performance of RPL is studied using various metrics. For example, Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Power Consumption and Packet Reception Ratio (RX) using a fixed Packet Reception Ratio (RX) values.

Ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes where wireless radio interface connects each device in MANET to move freely, independently and randomly. Routing protocols in mobile ad hoc network helps to communicate source node with destination node by sending and receiving packets. The communication between these mobile nodes is carried out without any centralized control. Thus it is necessary to analyze the behavior of different routing protocols under different environments. Many studies have been done on the performance evaluation of routing protocols of MANET, but most of these studies are based on IPv4. On the other hand Ipv6 is gaining popularity because it has some additional feature over Ipv4 as it supports multicasting, multi-homing, efficient routing. Ipv6 is more secure as compared to IPv4 and has large address space to support. In this paper performance of four proactive ad hoc routing protocols Optimized Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR) Destination-Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV) Improvement Destination-Sequenced Distance Vector (I-DSDV) Zone routing protocol (ZRP) evaluated under Ipv6 environment on the basis of end to end delay, packet delivery fraction, routing overhead. The objective of this paper is to investigate how these routing protocols behave under IPv6 environment and identify which routing protocol perform better. Ns-2 is used as simulation tool.

Formal and Executable Specification of Random Waypoint Mobility Model Using Timed Coloured Petri Nets for WMN

The wireless mesh network (WMN) is an emerging and cost-effective alternative paradigm for the next generation wireless networks in many diverse applications. In the performance evaluation of routing protocol for the WMN, it is essential that it should be evaluated under realistic conditions. The usefulness of specific mobility protocol can be determined by selection of mobility model. This paper introduces a coloured Petri nets (CP-nets) based formal model for implementation, simulation, and analysis of most widely used random waypoint (RWP) mobility model for WMNs. The formal semantics of hierarchical timed CP-nets allow us to investigate the terminating behavior of the transitions using state space analysis techniques. The proposed implementation improves the RWP mobility model by removing the “border effect” and resolves the “speed decay” problem.
