X-Ray Structure and Magnetism of μ-Bromo-μ-pyrazolatobis(diethylenetriaminecopper(II)) Perchlorate Monohydrate

Abstract The structure of the title compound has been determined by an X-ray method. The dinuclear complex is composed of two Cu(dien) units which are bridged by pyrazolate and Br− anions. The geometry around each copper(II) may be described as a square pyramid. The antiferromagnetic interaction within the dinuclear complex has been observed (J=−14 cm−1, H=−2JS1·S2).

Abstract The cis-α isomers of the 3,6-diazaoctane-1,8-diamine (trien) cobalt(III) complexes with 1,3-propanedithiolate (pdt) and 1,3-propanedisulfinate (pdsi) were selectively prepared and optically resolved. Of these isomers, the crystal structure and the absolute configuration of (−)460CD-[Co(pdsi)(trien)]ClO4·H2O have been determined by X-ray diffraction method. The complex cation takes a Δ-cis-α configuration. The 1,3-propanedisulfinate coordinates to cobalt atom through two sulfur atoms and its chelate ring takes a skew boat form with the λ conformation. The CD spectral behaviors in the d–d transition and the sulfur-to-metal (Co(σ*)←S(σ)) charge-transfer band regions are discussed in relation to the absolute configurations of the cobalt(III) complexes with sulfinate type sulfur donor atoms and the corresponding thiolate ones.

Thermal decomposition and dehydration of sodium perchlorate monohydrate

The dehydration of sodium perchlorate monohydrate proceeds in two stages corresponding to the removal of 0.2H 2O and 0.8H 2O per mol at 60 °C and 150 °C, respectively. The thermal decomposition at 490 °C is preceded by a phase transformation at 309 °C (orthorhombic → cubic) and melting at 472 °C. Between 490 °C and 520 °C the fractional decomposition (α) vs. time ( t) curves for molten NaClO 4 in vacuum are sigmoidal indicating an autocatalytic process. The α, t isothermal data are best fitted by a first order autocatalytic equation ln[(α + k 2/ k 1)/(1 − α)] = ( k 1 + k 2) t + ln( k 2/ k 1) over the temperature range 490–520 ° C, where k 1 is the autocatalytic rate constant and k 2 a first order rate constant. The activation energies for the two simultaneous occurring processes are 289.3 ∓ 5.4 and 208.9 ∓ 3.8 kJ mol , respectively. Gamma irradiation up to doses of 7.5 · 10 7 rad produced no observable effect on the subsequent thermal decomposition. The final solid product of the decomposition is sodium chloride in all cases.

Molecular and crystal structure of bis-quinolizidine immonium salts, V: Δ11(16)-dehydrolupaninium perchlorate monohydrate

Δ11(16)-Dehydrolupaninium perchlorate monohydrate, [C15H23N2O]+ClO4·H2O, was obtained from Δ12-dehydrolupanine, the product of mercuric acetate dehydrogenation of lupanine. It forms orthorhombic crystals, space groupp212121,a=8.528(1),b=12.335(1),c=32.928(3) A,V c=3463.8 A3,Z=8,D m=1.34,D x=1.34 g cm−3, μ(CuKα)=20.7 cm−1.F(OOO)=1472, mp=458 K; the finalR=0.086 for 2363 observed counter reflections. Two independent perchlorate anions and two independent cations are disordered. The conformations of the independent cations are similar: sofa (ringA), chair (ringB), intermediate between sofa and half-chair (ringC), and half-chair (ringD). The two lactam oxygens of the two independent cations are each hydrogen bonded to a different water molecule. From X-ray analysis and IR spectra in the condensed phase and13C-NMR measurements in DMSO-2H6 and2H2O it is evident that in the crystalline state as well as in solution, the immoniumlactam molecular structure is present in the compound studied.

The Crystal and Molecular Structure of Δ-(8-Methyl-1,3,6,10,13,16,19-heptaazabicyclo[6.6.6]icosane)cobalt(III) Perchlorate Monohydrate

Abstract The structure of Δ-(8-methyl-1,3,6,10,13,16,19-heptaazabicyclo[6.6.6]icosane)cobalt(III) perchlorate monohydrate, Δ-[Co(C14H33N7)](ClO4)3·H2O, has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Crystal data are the following: space group P212121, a=16.379(2) Å, b=16.388(2) Å, c=9.753(1) Å, V=2617.9(5) Å3, Z=4, 3983 nonzero structure factors (|Fo|>3σ(|Fo|)), R=0.0447, and Rw=0.0491. The geometry of the cation can be approximated very closely by a composite of [Co(sen)]3+ and [Co(sep)]3+, where sen=1,1,1-tris(4-amino-2-azabutyl)ethane and sep=1,3,6,8,10,13,16,19-octaazabicyclo[6.6.6]icosane.

All three possible diastereoisomers of the title complex have been isolated although one of these apparently occurs only in a folded form with a fifth ligand occupying the basal position of the square pyramid; conversion between diastereoisomers requires additional ligands with the relative stabilities of the diastereoisomers depending upon the donor strength of the medium and, in water, upon the concentration of NaClO4.

Abstract The crystal structure of tris[μ-(1,5-diamino-3-pentanethiolato)-N,N′, μ-S]-dicobalt(III) perchlorate monohydrate was determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. The binuclear complex has a novel type of binuclear structure in which the two cobalt atoms are bridged by three thiolate sulfur atoms forming a face-shared bioctahedron.

Tris(1-methylcytosine-N3)ammineplatinum(II) perchlorate monohydrate, a model for simultaneous binding of three nucleobases to a single metal ion

A Pt(II) complex containing three 1-methylcytosine ligands ( C), [Pt(NH 3)C 3] (CIO 4) 2· H 2], has been prepared starting with cis-Pt(NH 3) 2Cl 2, and its crystal structure has been determined. The title compound represents a model of a hypothetical interaction of cis.Pt(II) with three biomolecules which proceeds via an intermediate monochloro complex, cis-[Pt(NH 3) 2 CCl]Cl, and loss of ammonia from this compound. [Pt(NH 3) C 3](ClO 4) 2·H 2O crystallizes in space group P2 1/ c (No. 14) with a = 15.296(3), b = 4.666(3), c = 14.025(2) Å, β = 122.61(1)° and has 4 formula units in the unit cell. Data were collected with use of a Syntex P2 1 diffractometer and MoKα radiation. The crystal structure was determined by standard methods and refined to R 1 = 0.043 and R 2 = 0.056 based on 2925 independent reflections. The compound contains the three 1-methylcytosine ligands bound through N(3) with the three ligands almost perpendicular to the Pt coordination plane. The two C ligands trans to each other have identical orientations with respect to the platinum square plane whereas the cytosine trans to NH 3 has the opposite orientation. Bond lengths and angles are normal.

The title complex [Co(NH3)5(SCONHPh)][ClO4]2 has been prepared by the addition of [Co(NH3)5(OH2)]-[ ClO4]3 to phenyl isothiocyanate in dimethylformamide. A mechanism for formation of the complex is proposed whereby an O-bonded complex is initially formed and then isomerizes rapidly to the stable S-bonded species. The stable complex has been characterized by spectroscopic methods and by X-ray crystallography. Crystals are orthorhombic, space group Pnam, with eight molecules of the hydrate, [Co(NH3)5(SCONHC6H5)][ClO4]2·H2O, in a unit cell of dimensions a = 9.573(5), b= 11.300(5), and c= 37.40(2)Å. The structure was refined by full-matrix least-squares calculations to a final R value of 0.096 for 660 ‘ observed ’ reflections. The Co atom is octahedrally co-ordinated [Co–N 1.98–2.02(3), Co–S 2.264(9)Å]. An extensive network of hydrogen bonds links the cations, anions, and water molecules.

The crystal structure of the title compound (1), has been determined by X-ray analysis. Compound (1) crystallises in the triclinic space group P with a= 7.570(2), b= 9.742(2), c= 14.994(2)A, α= 100.376(4), β= 96.806(3), γ= 86.107(3)°, and Z= 2. The six-co-ordinate CuN4OO′ chromophore has a (4 + 1 + 1*) stereochemistry related to the regular cis-distorted octahedral stereochemistry by an in-plane twist towards a square-pyramidal CuN4O stereochemistry by the mechanistic pathway of the Berry twist. The single-crystal e.s.r. spectra of (1) and acetatobis (2,2′-bipyridyl) copper(II) perchlorate monohydrate, (2), are clearly rhombic and correlate with the square-pyramidal rather than the cis-distorted octahedral stereochemistry of the CuN4OO′ chromophore, when large Cu–O(2) distances are involved.

Hydrogen Bond Studies

The quadrupole splittings in the deuterium NMR spectrum from single crystals of deuterated sodium Perchlorate monohydrate, NaClO4-D2O, have been measured at 25 °C and - 55 °C. At room temperature, the 180° flip frequency of the D2O molecules is large compared to the difference between the splittings for the two deuterons. The average quadrupole coupling constant (e2 q Q/h) and asymmetry parameter η are 134.1(4) kHz and 0.621(5), respectively. At -55 °C, the electric field gradient tensors for each of the two deuterons were observed corresponding to slowly flipping water molecules, and e2 qQ/h and η for the two deuterons are 231.5(6) and 226.7(6) kHz and 0.196(4) and 0.195(5), respectively. The results indicate that the hydrogen positions in NaClO4-H2O are dynamically disordered

Terdentate co-ordination by a cysteine derivative: crystal and molecular structure of bis(S-methyl-L-cysteinato)cobalt(III) perchlorate monohydrate

The crystal and molecular structure of the title complex has been determined from three-dimensional X-ray diffractometer data by Patterson and Fourler methods. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P212121, with Z= 4 in a cell of dimensions a= 16.196(3), b= 8.393(2), and c= 11.944(2)A. Full-matrix least-squares refinement using 1 436 independent reflections has reached R 0.043.The structure contains one independent [(S-methyl-L-cysteinato)2cobalt(III)]+ cation, a perchlorate anion, and a molecule of water of solvation. The metal, which is slightly distorted octahedral, makes two Co–S, two Co–O, and two Co–N bonds with the lignds [mean distances 2.271(2), 1.906(5), 1.946(6)A]; bond angles at Co 83.8(3)–98.9(3)°. The two carboxy-oxygen and the amino nitrogen atoms are mutually cis while the two sulphur atoms are trans.
