Impacts of Education Quality Perception on Profession Change Tendency: The Mediating Role of Career Decidedness

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the effects of education quality perception on career process. The positive developments in tourism flows cause tourism employment to gain importance as an economic phenomenon day by day. However, negativities in matters such as working conditions and personal rights reveal an important problem such as employee turnover rates for tourism employment. It can be concluded that education quality is an important factor in both meeting the qualified personnel need of the tourism industry and decreasing the personnel turnover rate. In the study in which quantitative research methods were used, the questionnaire was preferred as the data collection tool. A total of 436 questionnaires were obtained from tourism students in Turkey. The research revealed the linear relationship between education quality perception and career decidedness. It was concluded that students who have positive perceptions about the quality of their education have low profession change tendency.

Personal Resilience in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Concept Analysis

Introduction: The most common kind of diabetes is type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which accounts for 95% of all DM cases. Microvascular and macrovascular complications burden patients physically, psychologically, socially, and economically. Patients must be resilient to live more affluent lives. Personal resilience in T2DM patients is essential in nursing practice and the development of nursing science. Understanding the concept of personal resilience is important to minimize bias and distortion in using the concept of resilience, especially in T2DM patients. Objectives: This study aimed to clarify the concept of personal resilience in T2DM patients. Methods: Walker and Avant's concept analysis approach was applied. A literature search was performed using Google Scholar, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and PubMed databases. The articles used from the databases were published between 2013 and 2022. Results: The attributes determining the level of personal resilience of T2DM patients are survival, adaptation, and recoverability. The antecedents include self-esteem, spirituality, culture, self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and age. The consequences include adherence, quality of life, effective coping, equilibrium, and illness perception. Conclusions: The three attributes, antecedents, and consequences of good personal resilience identified from the concept analysis could improve the researchers' understanding of personal resilience and its implementation in the care of T2DM patients along with the complexity of the problems experienced by patients. The clarity of this concept lies in the reference for treatment that focuses on empowering the personal abilities of T2DM patients to carry out self-management to achieve prosperous quality of life.

ConIQA: A deep learning method for perceptual image quality assessment with limited data

Effectively assessing the realism and naturalness of images in virtual (VR) and augmented (AR) reality applications requires Full Reference Image Quality Assessment (FR-IQA) metrics that closely align with human perception. Deep learning-based IQAs that are trained on human-labeled data have recently shown promise in generic computer vision tasks. However, their performance decreases in applications where perfect matches between the reference and the distorted images should not be expected, or whenever distortion patterns are restricted to specific domains. Tackling this issue necessitates training a task-specific neural network, yet generating human-labeled FR-IQAs is costly, and deep learning typically demands substantial labeled data. To address these challenges, we developed ConIQA, a deep learning-based IQA that leverages consistency training and a novel data augmentation method to learn from both labeled and unlabeled data. This makes ConIQA well-suited for contexts with scarce labeled data. To validate ConIQA, we considered the example application of Computer-Generated Holography (CGH) where specific artifacts such as ringing, speckle, and quantization errors routinely occur, yet are not explicitly accounted for by existing IQAs. We developed a new dataset, HQA1k, that comprises 1000 natural images each paired with an image rendered using various popular CGH algorithms, and quality-rated by thirteen human participants. Our results show that ConIQA achieves superior Pearson (0.98), Spearman (0.965), and Kendall’s tau (0.86) correlations over fifteen FR-IQA metrics by up to 5%, showcasing significant improvements in aligning with human perception on the HQA1k dataset.

The effects of quality perception and multisensory perception on purchase intention when consumers shop online

PurposeHow to reduce uncertainty in clothing online purchasing has become a primary concern for consumers. This study aims to investigate the effects of quality perception and multisensory perception on consumer online clothing purchase intention and to explore the mediating effect of trust.Design/methodology/approachThis study was conducted with consumers who have online clothing shopping experiences. A total of 539 valid samples were analyzed by bootstrap and structural equation model.FindingsThe result of this research revealed that perceived information quality, perceived service quality, perceived haptic imagery and perceived visual-audio cues have a significant influence on purchase intention. Additionally, consumers’ trust is positively correlated with purchase intention. Trust mediates the relationship between the perceptions (perceived information quality, perceived service quality, perceived haptic imagery and perceived visual-audio cues) and purchase intention, irrespectively.Originality/valueTo investigate the effects of multisensory perception on purchase intention, perceived haptic imagery is adopted as a variable in this study. This study investigates the mediating role of trust between multisensory perception and purchase intention. The findings of this study can enrich Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework and Information System (IS) success model in the field of clothing online shopping.

Advice givers rating the quality of their own advice messages during sex talk: testing Advice Response Theory

ABSTRACT Advice givers are chosen on the basis that they provide valuable information on how to solve problematic issues. In sexual contexts, advice givers are chosen over romantic partners because they provide advice on how to manage sex in supportive environments. However, a lacuna in the sexual communication literature concerns how advice givers’ perceptions influence the quality of their own advice messages. This communication theory-based project examined how advice givers’ relational assessments, disclosure about sex, and perceived advice message features influence their own perceptions of advice quality. A total of 266 participants completed a survey developed based on the theoretical tenets of Advice Response Theory (ART). Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Advice givers who perceived themselves as a credible source of information perceived that they gave better quality advice. Additionally, greater disclosures of advice givers’ sexual experiences were positively associated with efficacy, feasibility, few limitations, positive face, and negative face. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Assessment of Quality of Life of Doctors during Corona Pandemic in a Tertiary Hospital in Dhaka City

Background: Corona pandemic is an event where there is a rupture of the normal life pattern. The healthcare professionals specially doctors had faced an unknown potential threat to life that made them work in an intense and fearful situation. So, their quality of life (QOL) was affected in that pandemic. Objectives: To assess the physical health, psychological, social relationship, and environmental domains of quality of life of doctors during COVID-19 pandemic in a tertiary level hospital. Methods: It was a cross sectional study that included 100 doctors who were working during corona pandemic in BSMMU. Then they were interviewed with a semi-structured socio-demographic questionnaire. Quality of life was assessed by validated Bengali version of World Health Organization quality of life scale brief (WHOQOL-BREF). Data analysis was performed by statistical package for social science (SPSS), version-20. Results: Among the four domains, the environmental domain had the lowest score followed by physical health and psychological health domain and the social relationship domain showed a relatively higher score. Besides, environmental health scores of female doctors were significantly higher than those of male doctors. Perceptions of quality of life were significantly poor among doctors who were in current economic struggle (p=0.034) or in fear of future economic struggle (p=0.009). Score of environmental health domain were significantly low among doctors who were in current economic struggle (p=0.0137) as well as in fear of future economic struggle (p=0.015). Conclusion: All domains of quality of life were impaired in doctors during COVID-19 pandemic situation. Among the four domains of WHOQOL-BREF scale, environmental domain was mostly affected. Environmental health of male doctors was worse than female doctors during COVID-19 pandemic. Current as well as fear of future economic struggle in COVID-19 pandemic detrimentally affected perception of quality of life among responded doctors. A Single-Frame and Multi-Frame Cascaded Image Super-Resolution Method.

The objective of image super-resolution is to reconstruct a high-resolution (HR) image with the prior knowledge from one or several low-resolution (LR) images. However, in the real world, due to the limited complementary information, the performance of both single-frame and multi-frame super-resolution reconstruction degrades rapidly as the magnification increases. In this paper, we propose a novel two-step image super resolution method concatenating multi-frame super-resolution (MFSR) with single-frame super-resolution (SFSR), to progressively upsample images to the desired resolution. The proposed method consisting of an L0-norm constrained reconstruction scheme and an enhanced residual back-projection network, integrating the flexibility of the variational model-based method and the feature learning capacity of the deep learning-based method. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, extensive experiments with both simulated and real world sequences were implemented. The experimental results show that the proposed method yields superior performance in both objective and perceptual quality measurements. The average PSNRs of the cascade model in set5 and set14 are 33.413 dB and 29.658 dB respectively, which are 0.76 dB and 0.621 dB more than the baseline method. In addition, the experiment indicates that this cascade model can be robustly applied to different SFSR and MFSR methods.

Relationships Between Service Quality, Customer Loyalty and Customer Repurchase Intention: The Example of Health and Fitness Clubs

This study was conducted with the aim of testing the relationships between service quality perceptions, customer loyalty levels, and customer repurchase intentions of customers in health and fitness clubs. The sample group for the study comprised 476 individuals (233 female, 243 male) exercising in health and fitness clubs. Participants answered the Turkish version of the “Service Quality Assessment Scale (T-SQAS)”, the Turkish version of the “Loyalty Scale in Sport Services (T-LSSS)” and the Turkish version of the “Repurchase Intention Scale (T-RIS).” For the analysis, t-test, MANOVA, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation statistical methods were used. The most substantial gap between participant expectations and perception scores concerning service quality was observed in the “program” subscale, while conversely, the “locker room” subscale had the smallest difference. The means subscale scores for the “(T-LSSS)” of female participants were identified as being higher than those of male participants. There was a positive relationship between service quality, customer loyalty, and repurchase intention. Finally, it was evident that members were dissatisfied with the services offered, indicating an inconsistency between their expectations and the actual service delivery. Managers of health and fitness clubs should make the necessary effort to increase the service quality of their clubs to the highest level. Positive effects of service quality on the formation of repurchase intention, the first stage of creating loyal customers, will increase the competitive power of health and fitness clubs in the market.

This research aims to determine the influence of promotion, product quality and price perception on purchasing decisions among consumers of Rosebrand Rice Flour in DKI Jakarta. Type of quantitative research. The population in this study is unknown. The sample used in this research was 97 respondents, with a direct to project sampling system method and using the lemeshow formula. In this research, the data was analyzed using the SPSS version 27 program and Microsoft Excel 2021. The research results showed that simultaneously promotion, product quality and price perception had a significant effect on purchasing decisions. Partially promotion has a significant effect on purchasing decisions, product quality has a significant effect on purchasing decisions, and partially price perception has a significant effect on purchasing decisions.

Measuring health services quality: Nurses’ perceptions and the SERVPERF scale

This study aimed to assess service quality in the health-care sector by employing the SERVPERF scale, with a particular focus on the perceptions of nursing staff, which have a significant impact on patient care. Utilizing the SERVPERF scale, this research investigates the perceived quality of health services in hospitals and examines the predictors of service quality based on the scale’s dimensions and items. The five dimensions under consideration include tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and assurance. The data were collected from a sample of 214 nurses who completed the research survey to determine their perception of service quality. The questionnaire demonstrated high reliability, with an overall Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.72. The study was conducted in private hospitals situated in Yemen’s largest city. The findings revealed that the dimensions of health-care service quality were highly rated, with the safety dimension scoring the highest and the reliability dimension scoring the lowest. These results have significant implications for measuring health-care service quality. Although the study is limited by the use of a sample from five hospitals in nursing departments, the findings offer valuable insights for health-care sector leaders to assess service quality in hospitals.

Evaluating the combination of in-person and electronic social networking services for family caregivers of stroke survivors: A quasi-experimental analysis.

The effectiveness of health interventions delivered via a combination of in-person and electronic social networking services for caregivers of stroke survivors remains uncertain. This study evaluates the feasibility of implementing educational and peer support programs for these caregivers through such platforms. Quasi-experimental design. This study included 105 caregiver-survivor dyads, with 54 dyads allocated to the intervention group and the remaining 51 to the control group. The LINE intervention comprised a combination of in-person and electronic social networking services including stroke and rehabilitation education, problem-solving skills training, long-term care information support, and 24-h peer and professional support for caregivers. The outcomes were assessed at baseline, after 1 month, and after 3 months, and encompassed caregivers' care burden, depressive symptoms, perceived social support, and quality of life, as well as the rehabilitation adherence and depressive symptoms of stroke survivors. Generalized estimating equations were used to examine group differences. The data were collected between August 2021 and October 2022. The average age of the caregivers was 48.3 years. Caregivers in the intervention group reported reduced care burdens and enhanced perceptions of social support and quality of life as compared to those in the control group. Additionally, stroke survivors in the intervention group were less likely to exhibit high-risk depressive symptoms. Delivering a stroke caregiver support intervention via in-person and electronic social networking services, such as LINE, effectively reduced the care burden for caregivers of stroke survivors. Additionally, it enhanced caregivers' perceived social support and quality of life. This study demonstrated that caregiver education and peer support programs administered through a combination of in-person and electronic social networking services can serve as an effective support system for the psychosocial health of stroke caregivers. These findings support the integration of such interventions into standard clinical practice by healthcare providers or governmental bodies.

The Effects of Dry-Needling Therapy on the Quality of Life in Athletes with Myofascial Pain Syndrome: Repeated Measures Design Study.

Background: This study aims to investigate the effects of dry-needling treatment on the quality of life in athletes with myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). Methods: The participants included in the study were 50 athletes (38 males and 12 females) diagnosed with MPS. The treatments were carried out in four sessions, 5/7 days apart on 55 muscles in total. A 36-item health survey (SF-36) was implemented to determine the participants' quality of life. The chi-square test was used to determine the differences between measurements. Results: Dry-needling treatment has a positive influence on self-perspective of physical functioning (p = 0.011, on average), physical problems (p = 0.001, on average), emotional problems (p = 0.004, on average), social functioning (p = 0.001, on average), pain (p = 0.001, on average), and mental health and vitality (p = 0.001, on average) in athletes with MPS. The only quality-of-life dimension not influenced by the dry-needling treatment is the general health perception (p = 0.340, on average). Conclusions: Dry-needling therapy has positive effects on the perception of quality of life in athletes with MPS.

Product Quality, Price Perception, Customer Loyalty on IM3-Indosat SIM Card's Users

This study aims to examine the impact of Product Quality and Price Perception on Customer Loyalty. The research is quantitative and employs a survey methodology. The sample consists of 100 respondents. Primary data was analysed using SPSS version 26 for evaluation. The analysis results indicate that both Product Quality and Price Perception have a positive and significant influence on Customer Loyalty, with a significance value of 0.000 less than 0.05 and F-count of 146.348 greater that F-table 3.09. The coefficient value shows that 75.1% of Customer Loyalty is explained by Product Quality and Price Perception. These findings confirm the initial hypothesis, demonstrating a positive and significant effect of Product Quality and Price Perception on Customer Loyalty at 75.1%.

Consumers’ usage of errand delivery services: The effects of service quality and consumer perception

Errand delivery services refer to a novel delivery form where individuals assist in receiving or distributing items for a certain fee. It has emerged due to consumption upgrading, the rise of the lazy economy, and especially the impact of epidemics such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to fill research gaps, a new second-order Q-ETAM structural equation model based on service quality and technology acceptance models constructed to investigate consumers' motivation to use errand delivery services and how service quality affects their perceptions, which in turn impacts their usage of these services. The results show that service quality and consumer perception significantly positively affect consumers' use of errand delivery services. Tangibles have the greatest effect among the second-order variables of errand delivery quality. Furthermore, consumers' perceived usefulness and ease of use significantly and positively mediate their intention to continue to use these services. In addition, consumers' perceived usefulness and intention to continue using errand delivery services play a significant chain mediating role. This study explores the external and internal factors affecting the usage of errand delivery services from the consumer's perspective and comprehensively explains these motivating factors. The research findings provide insights into errand delivery platforms' design, management strategies, and potential service expansion. These findings can enable enterprises to attract consumers, enhance satisfaction, and better compete in the last-mile delivery landscape, ultimately benefiting both the consumers and businesses participating in the courier delivery ecosystem.

Towards 360 VR Sickness Mitigation: From Virtual Reality Eye-tracking to Visual Communication.

Most 360 virtual reality (VR) contents have been developed without considering that users could be affected by VR sickness. Accordingly, users' viewing safety has been steadily highlighted as a critical problem in the VR market. In this study, we investigate a novel VR sickness mitigation framework based on human visual characteristics for the rendered VR content. First, we build a large-scale 360 VR content database termed VRSP360 (VR Sickness and Presence 360) dedicated to the analysis of VR sickness and thoroughly conduct eye-tracking experiments to measure human perception. In the experiment, we observe that the users' gaze distribution is highly center-biased when they experience excessive VR sickness. From this observation, we design a foveated filtering framework that limits high-frequency textures in the peripheral view to mitigate VR sickness. Particularly, given the human visual system's (HVS) non-uniform resolution with respect to the fovea, we also adopt the foveation-based filtering method using the trade-off between sickness mitigation and presence conservation, which reduces any loss in perceptual quality despite the filtering. We further demonstrate that our framework can effectively compress visual information by applying foveated compression. In addition, we develop two metrics (visual texture index and perceptual information index) to measure the effective preservation of user-perceived information despite the filtration of peripheral vision textures by our proposed mitigation method. Through rigorous subjective evaluation on both original content and its VR-sickness-mitigated version, we demonstrate that the proposed framework successfully mitigates VR sickness with a reduction rate of ∼19% on the proposed dataset.

Neural adaptation to the eye's optics through phase compensation.

How does the brain achieve a seemingly veridical and 'in-focus' perception of the world, knowing how severely corrupted visual information is by the eye's optics? Optical blur degrades retinal image quality by reducing the contrast and disrupting the phase of transmitted signals. Neural adaptation can attenuate the impact of blur on image contrast, yet vision rather relies on perceptually-relevant information contained within the phase structure of natural images. Here we show that neural adaptation can compensate for the impact of optical aberrations on phase congruency. We used adaptive optics to fully control optical factors and test the impact of specific optical aberrations on the perceived phase of compound gratings. We assessed blur-induced changes in perceived phase over three distinct exposure spans. Under brief blur exposure, perceived phase shifts matched optical theory predictions. During short-term (~1h) exposure, we found a reduction in blur-induced phase shifts over time, followed by after-effects in the opposite direction-a hallmark of adaptation. Finally, patients with chronic exposure to poor optical quality showed altered phase perception when tested under fully-corrected optical quality, suggesting long-term neural compensatory adjustments to phase spectra. These findings reveal that neural adaptation to optical aberrations compensates for alterations in phase congruency, helping restore perceptual quality over time.

Perceived school service quality and vocational students' learning satisfaction: Mediating role of conceptions of vocational education.

This study examined the relationships among vocational students' perceptions of school service quality, their learning satisfaction, and their conceptions of vocational education in Chinese secondary vocational schools. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 10,721 students through multistage sampling. Perceived school service quality was assessed using the five-factor SERVPERF instrument, learning satisfaction was measured with the one-factor SSwLA scale, and conceptions of vocational education were evaluated using the one-factor SCoVE scale. These instruments were subjected to internal, convergent, discriminant, and construct validity tests, including exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Structural equation modeling (SEM) analyzed the relationships among the constructs. Additionally, mediation analysis was employed to explore the mediating role of students' conceptions of vocational education in the relationship between perceived school service quality and learning satisfaction. Results indicated that learning satisfaction was positively influenced by students' perceptions of school service quality, particularly responsiveness, assurance, reliability, and empathy, but negatively by tangibles. Furthermore, the association between students' perceived school service quality and learning satisfaction was mediated by their conceptions of vocational education, highlighting the complex interaction between perceived service quality and students' learning satisfaction. These findings provide critical insights for policymakers and educators seeking to enhance effectiveness and satisfaction within vocational education settings.
