Composition of gillnet catches based on network size at UPT Fishery Port of Riau Province

Gill net catches are one of fishermen's dominant fishing gear at UPT Dumai City Fishing Port. Gill net catches are easy to operate, have a low price, and are durable. This research was conducted in July-August at UPT Port of Fisheries, Riau Province. This study aimed to determine differences in gill net catches based on different mesh sizes. The method used is the survey method. The catch of gill nets by type with a mesh size of 2 inches is 25 fish species. Based on the weight and number of individual fish, it was dominated by lomek (Harpodon sp), namely 1,359.5 kg or 21.5% and 16,314 individuals or 27.18%. The catch in the 3-inch mesh size was 23 species of fish. The percentage of catches based on weight dominated by senangin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) was 30.38% (1,353.5 kg), and based on the number of individuals dominated by pomfret of 18.72% (4,534 individuals). The main catches in gill nets at UPT Dumai are lomek (Harpodon sp), senangin (Polynemus sp), pomfret (Bramidae sp) and machete (Chirocentrus sp). The primary and bycatch yields for the 2-inch mesh were 51.58% and 42.42%, while the 3-inch mesh sizes were 57.99% and 42.01%.

Hasil Tangkapan Mini Pure Seine Di Perairan Teluk Ambon Luar Dan Selatan Pulau Ambon

A purse seine is an active fishing gear used by fishermen in Ambon Island to catch small pelagic fish that gather in high abundance, although the information is still limited. The purpose of this research is to determine the species composition and size distribution of the catch from the mini purse seine in the waters of Outer Ambon Bay (TAL) and South Ambon Island (SPA). From the results of this research, there are four types in TAL waters and two types in SPA. In TAL, the captured fish species were Decapterus sp (Scad), Selar sp (Selar), Sardinella sp (Sardine), and Rastreliger sp (Mackerel). Sardine had the highest catch percentage at 28.41%, followed by scad (25.28%), mackerel (23.27%), and selar (23.04%). In the SPA waters, only scad (Decapterus sp) and selar (Selar sp) were found, with catch percentages of 57.83% and 42.17%, respectively. The average size distribution of scad caught with the mini purse seine in TAL waters was 16.62 cm, selar (17.22 cm), sardine (13.36 cm), and mackerel (17.34 cm). In SPA waters, the average size distribution of scad was 17.59 cm, and selar (16.63 cm).

Assessment of the current state of stocks and fisheries of the carp family in Kigash river

The article presents the results of scientific research on the Kigash River, the eastern part of the Volga delta-estuarine space. The Kigash River is part of the Zhaiyk-Caspian industrial district. The collected materials on research in the Kigash River in recent years (2018-2022) are presented. The structure of species of carp species of Kigash River was determined, the patterns of formation of the number and biomass of fish were determined, the current state of fish stocks was assessed, the last five-year dynamics of the structure of carp species was analyzed. The main biological indicators of the fish of the carp family, analyzing the change in the average age of the population and the change in the dominant age groups of fish, the age structure of the population and the percentage of catches over many years are shown. Comparing the condition of carp fish in the Kigash River with the data of long-term observations, the updated forecast of fishing and the catch stock for 2023-2024 are given.

Evaluation of the Efficiency of Probe and Indicator Device traps for Catch Adults of the Cowpea weevil Callosobruchus maculatus Fab. (Coleoptera: Chrysomeloidea)

The Probe trap was tested with three types (empty, water, alcoholic extract of (Vicia faba) respectively and for three periods of time (1, 2, 3) days respectively to catch the cowpea weevil C. maculatus that infests the broad bean seeds prepared for cultivation. It gave a trap Probe catching percentage on the third day of placing the traps respectively (19.16, 62.5, 88.33)% respectively, and the lowest catching percentage on the first day was (5.83, 20, 41.67%) respectively, while the highest percentage of catch was for the Indicator device trap with three species (Grease as sticky material , water, Vicia faba flower extract) for the third day with placing traps (52.5, 70, 72.5%) respectively, and the lowest percentage of catching was on the first day, which was (27.5, 40, 47.5%) respectively. From the experiment, the efficiency of the Probe trap and the Indicator device trap, to which bean flower extract was added, in hunting C. maculatus adults for the same time period, where the extract increased the efficiency of the two traps, followed by water for the same period of time.

Associations Between Physical Activity and Gross Motor Skills in Parent–Child Dyads

This study examines the associations of physical activity and gross motor skills in parent–child dyads. Parent–child dyads (N = 61, 84% mothers, children aged 8–11 years) participated in this study. Anthropometrics were self-reported through Qualtrics. Physical activity was assessed using accelerometers. Motor skills were measured through four skills: catch, kick, throw, and jump. These skills were assessed using process (i.e., performance criteria of the Test of Gross Motor Development-3) and product (i.e., catch percentage and jump distance) measures. A complete motor skill score was computed by standardizing both process and product scores and summing them. Correlation coefficients and ordinary least square regressions were computed to examine the associations of physical activity and motor skills. Parents’ and children’s moderate to vigorous physical activity were significantly associated (β = 0.30 ± 0.11; p = .008). Parents’ and children’s motor skills were significantly associated (β = 0.46 ± 0.18; p = .012). Understanding parent determinants can support effective interventions targeting children’s low physical activity levels and improving motor competence. Our results highlight the importance of parents’ physical activity and motor skills, which are significantly associated with those of their children. These parent factors may be a key consideration for effective family-based physical activity interventions.

Composition of fish catches and environmental friendliness levels based on code of conduct for responsible fisheries (CCRF) using traditional set net fishing gear with different depths in Malela waters, Awangpone district, Bone Regency

This study aims to describe the composition, and analysis of environmental friendliness in the waters of Awangpone district, Bone regency, in November- December 2021. This research method uses exploratory case studies and interviews with FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) analysis (1995) with purposive sampling methods. The composition of the traditional set net with a depth of 1.5 meters there are 47 species with a total weight of 469.98 kg. The percentage of the most catch is milkfish and bluespot mullet. The percentage of recessive fish caught were dory snaper, and rebon shrimp. While the composition of the catch traditional set netdepth of 3 meters there are 46 species with a total weight of 151 kg. The highest percentage of catches were jarbua terapon. The percentage of recessive fish caught were fringescale sardinella, Empirang common hairfin anchovy. There are 3 categories that are environmentally friendly, namely; does not endanger fishermen, does not catch protected fish, is socially acceptable and there are 6 categories that are not environmentally friendly, namely; not selective, destroying habitat, not producing quality fish, production endangering consumers, high by-catch and negative impact on biodiversity.

Spesies Composition and Bycatch from Gombang in East and South Seasons in Bengkalis, Riau, Indonesia

Gombang is one of the stationary fishing gear used in the coastal waters of Bengkalis. The gear is grouped as trap fishing gear and operated based on the fishing seasons, namely east, west and south seasons. This study at to determine the composition of the main catch, bycatch, and discards of this filtering net gear. The survey was conducted directly in the field, to identify of composition catches during April – September 2019. The catches were classified as main catch, bycatch, and discard. The results of this study showed that the total catch consisted of 35 species. The highest percentage of catch was scored as bycatch during east season (77.7%) with 27 species and during the south season (73.3%) with 26 species. The main catch percentage was 17.1% with six species’ during the east and south seasons. The rest was the discard (5.7%) consisting of 2 species during the east season, and 3 species (8.6%) during the south season. The present study revealed that quantities of bycatch during the west season were relatively higher than the main catch and discard.

Composition and Catch Rate of Purse Seine Fishery Unit at the Tegal Fish Landing, Central Java

Purse seine fishing gear is one of the fishing gear used by the fisherman at the Tegal Fish Landing to catch pelagic fish. This study aims to analyze the composition of purse seine catches and catch rates based on the number of catches and trips to sea, determine the selectivity of purse seine fishing gear base on the number and species. The research method used survey methods and data in quantitative analysis, the analysis of the composition of the catch is secondary to the volume of purse seine catches at Tegal Fish Landing throughout September to November 2019. The capture rate was calculated using secondary data on the number of trips and the total production of purse seine at the Tegal Fish Landing from 2014 to 2018. Selectivity of puse seine fishing gear using primary data includes the number and weight of catches, identification of fishing gear, work equpment, safety equipment, supplies, navigation tools, accident history. The dominant variety of catch species was small pelagic fish, namely Decapterus macrosoma, Sardinella lemuru, and Rastrelliger kanagurta. The largest percentage of catches in September was 52% Decapterus macrosoma, 13% Sardinella lemuru, and Rastrelliger kanagurta. The location of the fishing grounds is in the WPP area 712 and 713 the average CPUE purse seine per year at Tegal Fish Landing was 26.710 kg or 26,7 tons per trip for each vessel. This shows that purse seine capture productivity was still quite low when compared to the size of Gross Tonnage. Purse seine gear for five fishing vessels that landed at Tegal Fish Landing selectively. During the study the proportion of the amount and weight of the five vessels was more thant 60%.

New Insight Into the Reproductive Biology and Catch of Juveniles of the Lutjanus purpureus in a Portion of the Great Amazon Reef System Off the Northern Brazilian Coast

The Southern red snapper, Lutjanus purpureus, is a valuable economic resource, especially in international market. However, no recent data are available on the reproductive biology of this species in Brazilian waters, in particular, the stock found on the Amazon reef. The present study evaluated the population structure and reproductive biology of L. purpureus, and the volume of the catch of juveniles taken by the local commercial fisheries. A total of 923 specimens were analyzed, of which, 577 were female and 346 male (sex ratio: 0.6:1; p < 0.05). The analysis of the gonadosomatic index (GSI) and the distribution of maturation stages indicated that the males and females are able to reproduce throughout the year, however the reproductive peak occurs simultaneously with the increase in the water discharge of the Amazon River. The spawning females were registered in the study area, indicating that L. purpureus does not perform long distance reproductive migrations, different from the previously proposed. The Fork length at first sexual maturation (FL50) was estimated to be 35.2 cm in the males and 32.1 cm in the females. The high frequency of juveniles (< FL50) captured by the commercial snapper fleet using longlines (33.67% of the total catch) and traps (42.1%) indicates the poor selectivity of the fishing gear used by the snapper fleet, which may contribute to the accelerated depletion of the L. purpureus stock. Although the results of this study show a catch percentage of juveniles >50%, it is still a significant percentage of juveniles that are being caught due to little or no guidance and enforcement of fishing gear to ensure compliance with current legislation. Considering the data presented in this study and the current situation of declining fish stocks of L. purpureus, an assessment is recommended for the inclusion of the species in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, which is currently a species categorized as “vulnerable” in the Brazilian Red List.

Inferring ecosystem impacts of a small-scale snapper fishery through citizen science data, productivity and susceptibility analysis, and ecosystem modelling

The small-scale fishery targeting snappers in the Mexican Atlantic is data-limited since the best scientific information is insufficient to determine its status. Governmental (at regional level) and citizen science data (at a local scale) were used for fishery characterisation, emphasising the red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus). The characterisation, along with productivity and susceptibility analysis (PSA) and ecosystem modelling (Ecopath with Ecosim), were used to infer fishery impacts on the coastal ecosystem of Campeche and Tabasco, southern Gulf of Mexico (GOM). Red snapper official annual landings indicated relative stability after 2000 in all the Mexican states, with the highest average landings in Tabasco. Citizen science data showed that the fishery is highly selective for snappers (three species accounted for 83.4%) due to the use of species-specific gears in areas far from the shore (> 50 km). Although bycatch (n = 20 species) included five species with an IUCN risk category (VU, EN, and CR) and two sharks in CITES Appendix II, they represented a low catch percentage (< 2%) of the citizen science records. PSA suggests the red snapper had a moderate and three elasmobranchs high overexploitation risk. The ecosystem had a simple trophic structure and high resilience, with a strong energy flow exchange between three food web compartments. The overall results suggest that the small-scale fishery has a relatively low ecosystem impact in Tabasco and Campeche. However, systematic fishery monitoring to understand catch composition variations and collect more information on trophic web interactions is needed for future assessments.

Potensi kerusakan lingkungan perairan laut akibat pengoperasian alat tangkap sondong di kecamatan Concong Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir

Based on the research that has been carried out, the extent of potential damage to marine waters due to the operation of the sondong is directly proportional to the length of the operation time, the size of the sondong, the sweep length and the number of back and forth fishing gear. The longer the operating time, the larger the fishing gear size, the wider the sweep area and the greater the number of fishing gear settings (back and forth), the greater the potential for damage to marine waters. The catch consists of 37 species (including garbage), 2 types of main catch species (maincatch), 15 types of bycatch species and 20 species (including waste) from discard. Percentage of catch based on number (head) for main catch is 38%, bycatch 11% and bycatch 51%. Percentage of catch based on weight (kg) is for main catch 22%, bycatch 6% and waste catch 72%. The captured waste that is not valued is thrown away both alive and dead will become waste, this has triggered serious conservation problems due to the waste of valuable natural resources and causes populations of species to be endangered and even extinct. It can be said that there are no social, economic and conflict impacts that arise in the aquatic environment due to the operation of the fishing gear. Socially, the operation of the sondong fishing gear in the waters of the research location is acceptable, the decrease in fishermen's income and the (economic) catch in general is not due to the operation of the sondong fishing gear.

Cyprinid Fishes: An Overview on the Present Status in Meghalaya, India

Cyprinid fishes of Meghalaya were investigated from twin drainage basins Brahmaputra and Barak-Surma-Meghna. 27 cyprinid fishes under 14 genus and 7 sub families were recorded from rivers and reservoirs of four different gradient zones. The diversity of Cyprinid fishes was highest with 49% representation of Cyprinids at lower elevation Zone IV below 500 m above MSL and bio diversity indices estimated as H: 3.05, 1-D: 0.10. In contrary lowest diversity with 7% representation of fishes was observed at elevation 1501 to 2000 m above MSL in Zone I with bio diversity indices H: 0.25, 1-D: 0.57. Distribution of commercially important cyprinids under genus Labeo, Systomus and Cirrhinus were found to be restricted to rivers of Barak-Surma-Meghna drainage basin. Catch percentage of cyprinids indicates that 70% of fishes exhibit occasional occurrence and 30% as common occurrence. High percentage of occasional occurrence, low catch composition percentage and with restricted distribution of commercially important fishes to only certain rivers of Barak-Surma-Meghna drainage is an indication of depletion of cyprinid resources in the state and requires taking multi prong conservation measures to protect cyprinid fishes in Meghalaya.

The experiment aimed to evaluate viability in the production of grapevine seedlings using three materials in the process of mooring and graft protection: elastic + sawdust, Vimeiro + sawdust and biodegradable tape. Was used SO4 rootstock cuttings and grafting with variety BRS Cora. The analyzed indicators were percentage of graft take, quality of the graft callus, seedling classification. The answers regarding the formation of roots were greater in the treatments with lower percentage of catch. The diameter, length and dry weight of the pruning branches did not differ between treatments. Treatments with elastic region mooring and Vimeiro covered with sawdust showed the best results for the percentage of callus and callus quality.

Development of Robotic Arm Control System Using Computational Vision

Industrial robots are present in most of today's industries. Their benefits to industrial production make them the main research's target and constant development. However, are limited to sequential and repetitive movements without any decision making. Therefore, one of the current researches and development strands is the robot's integration with computer vision. Which seeks to enable them to see as humans, and thus, make them even more useful, efficient and independent. In this context, a PID control system was developed for a robotic arm. It is integrated to a computer vision system using Kinect\textregistered, in order to capture objects - within 6 possible positions - according to their color. For that, an Arduino MEGA 2560 was used for control system, and Software was developed in Processing programming language for integration, systems operation, and 6-position definition. The SimpleOpenNI and OpenCV for Processing libraries were used to work with Kinect\textregistered, and computer vision, respectively. Finally, the results were satisfactory, and the lowest percentage of catches made successfully among all positions was 83.33%.

Characteristics of the Croatian anchovy purse seiner fleet

Croatia has a fishing fleet of 7559 vessels. Of these, small-scale coastal fishing boats, less than 12 meters in length, makes up 95,7% of the fleet. However, the largest percentage of catches, more than 94%, is made by purse-seiners that are representing only 3% of total fishing vessels. These vessels target small pelagic fish, predominately sardine and anchovy. This paper describes all the technical characteristics of the Croatian purse seiner fleet, based on 113 purse seine vessels registe-red in 6 Croatian ports and targeting anchovy in order to allow a precise determination of that fleet fishing capacity and subsequent management of the fleet in a responsible and sustainable manner. Comparison of different technical characteristics showed that the length of a vessel corresponds to the amount of the catch as well as to size of the fish. Hence, results confirm superiority of sonar, as a fish-finding device, over sounder in detecting fish shoals, which is prerequisite for purse seine fishing.

ALAT BANTU RAMAH LINGKUNGAN DENGAN SUARA UNTUK IKAN PELAGIS KECIL

The development of fish calling device,particularly in the liftnet fisheries, is directed to find more effective and efficient fishing tools to improve catches and be environmentally friendly. The use of sound fishing aids has never been used by fishermen liftnet in South Sulawesi.The expected knowledge is to make a voice calling aids, especially small pelagic fish. In this study, the observed aspects: the percentage of catches produced by three types of sound and analyzing the catch results in relation to Gonade Maturity Lavel to see environmental friendliness.The making of a fish-calling device with waterproof sound was made in simulation and navigation workshopof Pangkep State Polytechnic of Agriculture,then it is operatedin the waters of Barru District - Strait of Makassar, with a lift net in June - July 2018. The results showed the type of sound I was very good for Stelophorus sp with the percentage of Gonade Maturity Lavel I was 93%, sound II was very good to be used Sardinella sp with the percentage of  Gonade Maturity Lavel IV 12% and Gonade Maturity Lavel  V 93% , while the sound III was very suitable to attract the attention of mackerel (Rastrelliger sp) the percentage of Gonade Maturity Lavel IV is 73% and Gonade Maturity Lavel  V is 27%, but it should be used after July (after spawning).

Determinants of Catch Sales in Ghanaian Artisanal Fisheries

The study examined the determinants of catch sales of artisanal fishers through wealthy middle women in fishing communities of Ghana, often known as fish mothers or “fish mongers”. The effects of selected variables were examined with a double hurdle model. Self-financing was found to negatively affect the fishers’ sale of fish catch through fish mothers. The fishers were 19% less likely to sell to fish mothers if they self-finance, and that self-financing will result in a 10% downward unconditional change on the percentage of fish sold to the fish mothers. Factors that positively influenced the sale of fish catch through the fish mothers were price, percentage of high value fishes, size of boat, fishing experience, and number of fishing trips conducted in a year. The estimated average partial effects of boat size had the strongest effect with about 146% and 91% change, respectively on conditional and unconditional effect on the percentage of catch sales sold through the fish mothers. Overall, the study shows that long-term consistent economic and investment considerations such as investing in larger boats are important drivers for fishers’ choice of selling catches through fish mothers. The main implication of the results is that fishers need some economic leverage such as access to formal capital and financial resources to incentivize them to exercise control over their marketing activities so that they can receive a higher profit from their fishing operations. This is important for the sustainability of coastal fisheries communities and the sector as a whole. Artisanal fishers need resources such as low interest loans and market information systems that will enable them to negotiate prices for their fish catch with fish mothers.

Checklist of Fishes at Pergau Lake, Jeli, Kelantan, Malaysia.

A survey was conducted to determine the diversity of fish in Pergau Lake, Jeli, Kelantan, Malaysia from 2 September to 18 October of 2016. Fish samples were collected at seven random sampling stations around the lake by using setting trap method. The collected samples were preserved in 10% formalin solution and delivered to the laboratory for further identification process. Fourteen species, namely as Hemibagrus nemurus, Hampala macrolepidota, Clarias batrachus, Channa striata, Cyprinus carpio, Poropuntius smedleyi, Pangasius sp., Oreochromis niloticus, Oreochromis mossambicus, Leptobarbus hoevenii, Neolissochilus hexagonolepis, Tor tambroides, Osteochilus hasselti and Neolissochilus soroides, comprising of six families were collected during this study. From this study, family of Cyprinidae was the dominant species in Pergau Lake with exactly 50% of catch percentage, followed by family of Bagridae (29%), Cichlidae (10%), Clariidae (5%), Channidae (3%) and Pangasiidae (3%). This study shows that there is still a diversity of fish species in Pergau Lake, showing that the water and its environmental condition is very good.

Biological and economical Evaluation of by catch and discards of fisheries for gill net in Bardawil lagoon

Fisheries in Bardawil lagoon involve different types of gears. The present study refers to light on main catch composition of gill net and assessing them bioeconomicaly. The results showed that the gill net catch has 7 species of fish and crustaceans, weighing 10.28 kg in each catch/unit gear. The percentage of catches from gill nets per fishing unit of fishing trip (one night) were as follows: Thin lip Grey mullet, Liza ramada constituted the most dominant fish species (52.22%) followed by Swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus (18.53%) and Grey-mullet, Mugil cephalus (10.78%). According to size evaluation, the average juvenile and adult catches weighting about 4.29Kg (41.71%) and 5.99 kg (58.29%) respectively per unit of fishing trip. The total economic catch (adult) recorded the highest weight in September (8.97 kg / per unit) and June recorded the lowest (4.01 kg / per unit). Also, the high non-economic catch (juvenile) was recorded in September (5.75 kg / per unit) and June recorded the lowest (2.70 / kg per unit). The present results indicated that, the landing of juvenile leads to more losses of stock biomass which formed ≈ 345 tones and about 23.6 million LE losses in one fishing season, 2016.

Temporal activity of spiders and earwigs during winter in apple trees under a Mediterranean climate

ABSTRACTIt is well known that spiders are present in high numbers in orchards and may contribute to biocontrol. Some recent studies in central Europe further showed that some spiders are active year-round and consume pests even in winter. Using cardboard traps laid every two weeks, we carried out a survey to determine which spider and earwig species are active from September to May in an experimental, pesticide-free, apple orchard under a Mediterranean climate. We observed that spider activity was never completely absent. The structure of the spider communities showed a marked seasonality in three periods (so-called ‘autumn’, ‘winter’ and ‘spring’). Only two spider genera, Philodromus and Trachelas, were highly active in winter (percentage of catches during this season above 40%) and six others (Lathys, Clubiona, Gnaphosa, Theridion, Phrurolithus) had moderate activity (between 20 and 40%). The two earwig species had different patterns of winter activity with Forficula auricularia almost absent whereas F. pubescens was moderately active on trees. Spider community abundance, diversity and evenness significantly decreased between autumn and winter and remained low in the following spring probably because the attractiveness of the traps is much lower at this time of year due to mild temperatures and the presence of leaves on the trees. Winter-active spiders could contribute to pest biocontrol during the cold season and we advocate that the use of broad-spectrum pesticides at the end of winter, as classically applied in orchards, may be counter-productive for pest control.
