The Development of Disordered Eating in Male Adolescents: A Systematic Review of Prospective Longitudinal Studies

AbstractA lack of research exists about the development of disordered eating in adolescent males. A systematic review was undertaken with the primary aim of identifying psychosocial risk factors that are prospectively associated with the development of disordered eating attitudes and behavior in adolescent males. The review’s secondary aim was to appraise the appropriateness of the psychometric assessment measures used to identify those risk factors. Electronic databases Scopus (Elsevier), PsycINFO (EBSCO), PsycARTICLES, Medline (Ovid), Web of Science Core Collection and Pubmed (Thomson Reuters) were searched for prospective longitudinal research involving 11–19 year-old adolescents that was published between 2010 and 2022. Twenty-one publications met inclusion criteria and thirty-five factors including fourteen psychological factors, ten body appearance factors, four sociocultural factors, three familial and four peer factors were identified as prospectively associated with the development of disordered eating attitudes and behavior in male adolescents. The psychometric assessment measures used to identify those factors, together with the proportion of female respondents upon whose data the measures were based, were critically appraised. Accurate assessment is imperative in generating reliable and valid research and informing clinical practice. Existing female-centric psychometric assessments normed predominantly on female participants may not be appropriate for use with adolescent males.

Analisis Faktor Penyebab Anak Putus Sekolah di Desa Oinlasi Kecamatan Mollo Selatan Kabupaten Timor Tengah Selatan

The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that cause children to drop out of school, and the efforts of parents to overcome dropout students in Oinlasi Village, South Mollo District, South Central Timor Regency. This study used the qualitative research method with a purposive sampling technique. The subject of this study were dropout students, parents, and the head of the village. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used interactive analysis, namely data reduction, data display, and data verification. The results showed that the factors that cause children dropout of school were parents’ low economic background, children’s lack of interest to get an education, peer factors, the distance from school. The efforts of parents to overcome dropout students were motivating children, giving advice, and controlling children's activities.

School Strategy in Overcoming Students' Bullying Behavior at SMP Negeri 44 ST. Petrus Kloangpopot Kloangpopo Village, Doreng District, Sikka District

The results of the study stated that SMP Negeri 44 St. Petrus Kloangpopot has experienced bullying behavior. The type of bullying behavior that often occurs is verbal bullying and one of the factors that influences bullying behavior at St. Petrus Kloangpopot is the peer factor. As a result of this bullying behavior, there are children who feel insecure and feel inferior so that these children decide to drop out of school or change schools. From this problem, one of the schools that can prevent this bullying behavior is the principal, student council, homeroom teacher and Pancasila and Citizenship Education Teacher (PPKN) at SMP Negeri 44 St. Petrus Kloangpopot. From the results of the study, the authors conclude that bullying is a negative action or behavior that causes someone to be uncomfortable/injured

Peer and Parental Social Norms as Determinants of Gambling Initiation: A Prospective Study

PurposeDespite the potential consequences of gambling during adolescence, the factors involved in the initiation of this behavior are relatively understudied. Using a longitudinal design, the present study analyzed the contribution of parental and peer norms to adolescent gambling initiation. MethodsA sample of 440 adolescent non-gamblers (50.9% males, meanage = 14.85 [standard deviation = 1.41]) completed a baseline survey and a 1-year follow-up questionnaire. The baseline survey included assessments of perceived descriptive and injunctive norms from parents and peers, perceived parent and peer gambling severity, and susceptibility to peer pressure. A multivariate hierarchical logistic regression model was used to assess the contribution of baseline measures to adolescent gambling initiation at follow-up. ResultsOf the 440 non-gamblers assessed at baseline, 160 (36.4%) reported initiating gambling at follow-up. All the peer factors were prospectively associated with gambling initiation, while only the perceived injunctive norms of parents were associated with initiation. Higher susceptibility to peer pressure, perceived gambling by peers, and peer and parental approval of gambling at baseline were associated with higher odds of adolescent gambling initiation at follow-up. In contrast, the likelihood of gambling initiation among adolescents decreased as the perception of peer gambling severity increased. DiscussionThe identification of parental and peer factors associated with adolescent gambling initiation may provide support for relevant preventative interventions aimed at avoiding or delaying gambling initiation among adolescents. Specifically, to reduce the initiation of gambling, preventative programs should focus on helping adolescents to find strategies for resisting peer influences.

Equity Levers: What Predicts Enrollment in and Number of College‐Level Courses Taken in High School?

This study explores the extent to which student, family, peer, and school factors predict (a) whether students take Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses, International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, and dual enrollment courses and (b) in models limited to course takers, how many courses they completed. Our findings, based on a nationally representative, longitudinal sample, suggest that, when it comes to college‐level high school course taking, the relative advantage of higher socioeconomic status (SES) is less for African American students than it is for White and Asian students. Ninth‐grade math skills are the strongest predictor of AP or IB and dual enrollment course taking, above and beyond demographic background characteristics like SES and race or ethnicity. High school girls take AP/IB and dual enrollment courses at a higher rate than boys, and they take more of these courses. The level of academic focus of students and their peers is associated with both AP or IB and dual enrollment course taking, whereas having parents focused on college preparation and course taking only predicts AP or IB course taking. School factors associated with AP or IB course taking include U.S. region and rural location; the percentage of math teachers with a master's degree is also positively associated with the number of AP or IB courses students take. These findings highlight the importance of equitable educational opportunities starting from a young age. They also indicate a need for increased early attention to student math skills and for more supports for parents and school staff to enable them to encourage and prepare all students, especially those from historically marginalized groups, to take college‐level courses in high school.

Social Jeopardy of Substance Use among Adolescents: A Review to Recognize the Common Risk and Protective Factors at the Global Level

Adolescence is a phase of life between childhood and adulthood marked by rapid biological, social and psychological changes. During this phase, individuals bear a more emotional and curious mind and may engage in risky behaviours. Decades of investigations have revealed that substance use usually begins in adolescence. The main essence of this paper is to carry out an elaborative review of earlier works to recognize familiar risks and protective factors for substance use among adolescents at the global level. Additional emphasis was given to identifying the various statistical modelling approaches, widely used in earlier studies, to promote research methodological issues for future research in this specific domain. Articles published from 1991 to 2021 on adolescent substance use were downloaded, and after carrying out a preliminary full-text review, 50 articles were selected keeping the priority of the aforementioned objectives. After an intensive review, risk factors were identified and clustered around five broad domains such as individual, parental, familial, peer and environmental factors. Protective factors were also categorized under the headings of five broad domains viz. individual, parental, familial, social and interventional. Specific statistical modelling techniques were identified to evaluate the relative risk of specific groups of adolescents being in the clutches of substance use. It is necessary to recognise the potential risk and protective factors and their combined effect on substance use among adolescents to prevent this menace from society. For a better understanding of research about the exact vulnerable age of onset of substance use during the adolescence period, both the orthogonally placed risk and protective factors necessarily need to be distinguished with an attempt to protect adolescents from the further abuse of substances, as recognised by parents and society. To prevent substance use, interventions such as regulating substance price & accessibility, school intervention programs, academic monitoring, social support, clear expectations between parents and child, addressing family trauma, awareness activities, healthy lifestyle habits, mental health support, family health counselling and substance abuse treatment should be implemented.

Examining Children and adolescent mental health trajectories during the COVID-19 pandemic: Findings from a year of the Co-SPACE study.

A major concern throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been on young people's experiences with mental health. In this study we mapped children and adolescents' mental health trajectories over 13 months of the pandemic and examine whether family, peer, and individual-level factors were associated with trajectory membership. This study focuses on a sub-sample from the Co-SPACE study of 3322 children and adolescents (aged 4-16years) for whom parents completed a survey at Time 0 and at least one follow-up survey between March 2020 and May 2021. We used growth mixture models to examine trajectories in emotional, conduct, and hyperactivity/inattention difficulties using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire and multinomial logistic regression models to estimate factors associated with individual trajectory membership. The average trend in young people's mental health appeared to follow changes in national guidelines regarding the pandemic. Distinct trends in GMM models highlighting individual differences showed that a 5-trajectory model best explained the changes in emotional problems whilst 4-trajectory models best explained variation in hyperactivity/inattention and conduct problems. While most young people followed low stable (62%-85%) or moderate stable (28%) symptom trajectories, 14%-31% experienced very high, high stable or increasing mental health difficulties. Young people following high stable trajectories were more likely to have special educational needs and/or neurodevelopmental disorders, parents reporting higher levels of distress and parent-child conflict, and were less likely to have at least one close friend. Most young people adapted well and experienced low stable symptoms, but nearly one third experienced high stable or increasing mental health difficulties. Young people with complex needs and parents with higher psychological distress were particularly vulnerable to high stable problems while those with positive peer relationships were less vulnerable. This study offers insight into potential factors that can be addressed using targeted interventions to improve the wellbeing of parents and young people in the event of future lockdowns and school closures.

Exploring substance misuse behaviors among black girls in detention: Intersections of trauma, sex, and age

High risk substance misuse, trauma and gang involvement are prevalent in adolescents and often occur with youth involved with the youth punishment system. Evidence suggests that system involvement is related to trauma histories, substance misuse, as well as gang involvement. This study investigated the associations between individual and peer factors and their relationship to problem drug and alcohol use among Black girls involved with the youth punishment system. Data were collected from 188 Black girls in detention at baseline, as well as 3 and 6 month follow up periods. Measures assessed were abuse history, trauma history, sex while using drugs and alcohol, age, government assistance, and drug use. Significant findings from the multiple regression analyses indicated that younger girls were more likely to have a higher prevalence of having a drug problem than older girls at baseline. Having sex while on drugs and alcohol at the 3 month follow up period was correlated with drug use. These findings highlight how individual and peer factors can influence problem substance misuse, their behavior and peer relationships among Black girls in detention.

When fate hands you lemons: A moderated moderation model of bullying victimization and psychological distress among Chinese adolescents during floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bullying is a major problem worldwide and has numerous detrimental effects on the mental health of victims. The link between bullying and psychological distress in adolescents is well known. However, few studies have analyzed the impact of combined interpersonal, peer, and cultural factors on psychological distress using a social-ecological system framework in Eastern countries. Negotiable fate is a cultural belief common in Eastern societies that suggests that people can negotiate with fate for more control by exercising personal agency within the limits of what fate has determined. This study examined the moderating effects of neuroticism and negotiable fate on the relationship between bullying victimization and psychological distress among Chinese adolescents. Moreover, human society commonly suffers from multiple disasters that lead to severe mental health problems. There are few empirical studies on the effects of bullying among adolescents in multiple disaster contexts. This study included participants who experienced floods and COVID-19 simultaneously in 2021. We conducted a cross-sectional cluster sampling study from August 6 to 9, 2021, approximately 2 weeks after the start of the Zhengzhou City flooding and 7 days after the new wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in Zhengzhou City. The study included 1,207 participants (52.4% men, n = 633; M age = 14.36, SD = 0.94) from a middle school in Zhengzhou City, China. The results revealed that bullying was positively linked to psychological distress (β = 0.5.34, p < 0.001, [0.73, 9.95]). Neuroticism and negotiable fate significantly moderated the relationship between the effects of bullying and psychological distress (β = -3.58, p < 0.05, 95% CI [-6.12, -1.04]). Specifically, high neuroticism increased the risk of psychological distress in adolescents bullied before a disaster. High or low neuroticism and high negotiable fate buffered the link between bullying and psychological distress. This study showed that neuroticism and negotiable fate moderated the relationship between bullying victimization and psychological distress in Chinese students with COVID-19 and flood disasters. High negotiable fate and high or low neuroticism could help adolescents bullied in school to be immune from psychological distress in catastrophe. The results highlight the importance of considering the interplay between bullying, neuroticism, and a sense of controllable destiny when examining adolescents' psychological distress.

Network analysis links adolescent depression with childhood, peer, and family risk environment factors

BackgroundAdolescent mental health is influenced by various adverse environmental conditions. However, it remains unclear how these factors jointly affect adolescent depression. This study aimed to use network analysis to assess the associations between different environmental factors and depressive symptoms in adolescents and to identify key pathways between them. MethodsThis study included 610 adolescents with depression from inpatient and outpatient units recruited between March 2020 and November 2021. The mean age was 14.86 ± 1.96, with no significant difference between males (n = 155, 15.10 ± 2.19) and females (n = 455, 14.78 ± 1.88). Depressive symptoms were measured using the Children's Depression Inventory, and individual risk environment factors included childhood trauma, social peer and family risk factors. Network features, including network centrality, stability, and bridge centrality, were investigated. ResultsAnhedonia and self-esteem were found to be more central in depressive symptoms. Insult experiences from the social peer and emotional abuse experience from childhood were more central environmental factors. Childhood trauma experiences were more related to adolescent depressive symptoms compared to family and peer factors. Bridge analyses identified emotional abuse, emotional neglect and physical neglect as the main bridges linking environment risk to depressive symptoms. LimitationsThis was a cross-sectionally designed study, which limited its ability to examine longitudinal dynamic interactions between environmental factors and adolescent depressive symptoms. ConclusionsOur findings suggested that childhood trauma experiences might have greater psychological impacts on adolescent depression than family and social peer environments, and should be considered as crucial targets for preventing severe depressive moods.

The influence of parents and peers on adolescents’ problematic social media use revealed

Nowadays, parents, caretakers, teachers and researchers have an increasing interest in the development and consequences of problematic social media use, especially among adolescents. A growing body of research investigates factors that may influence the development of problematic social media use. This study examined the role of the broader context of parental (time spent with parents and family support), peer (peer support and peer pressure), and individual factors (perceived self-control) in the development of adolescents' risky and problematic social media use (ref = normative), as well as the moderating role of self-control by using a longitudinal design. Adolescents (N = 1384) aged 11–19 years (Mage = 14.1, SD = 1.03) were included and completed a self-report questionnaire twice (6-month interval). A Multinomial Logistic Regression showed that parent and peer factors predicted risky social media use, but not problematic use of social media. Adolescents’ level of self-control did not modify these relationships. However, low self-control did increase the odds of developing risky or problematic social media use directly. In conclusion, this study provides preliminary evidence that general parent and peer factors can help to prevent risky social media use, but to a lesser extent problematic use of social media. For the latter, the individual factor self-control, however, seems to play a role.

Analysis of the Factors Causing Bullying Behaviour of Class XI Students at MAN Singkawang

&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;This study aims to describe the factors that cause&lt;/em&gt; &lt;em&gt;bullying behaviour of class XI students at MAN Singkawang. The research used is qualitative. The research subjects used were 13 people. The method used was the interview with sampling, the data source was purposive. Collection technique with triangulation. The results of this study indicated that factors causing bullying behaviour: (a) family factors were caused by a less harmonious family, incomplete (parents die or get divorced), communication between parents and children was not smooth, and unfair parenting; (b) the peer factor due to the excessive intensity of communication between peers allowed for the desire to bully at the instigation of their friends, so that they were considered to have full authority over their group; (c) the mass media factor, often excessive online gameplay and even more so the misuse of social media.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Investigating the factorial structure and measurement invariance of the parent-reported strengths and difficulties questionnaire at 11years of age from the UK Millennium Cohort Study.

The strengths and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ) consist of five sub-scales that have been used to measure internalising and externalising symptoms in children, typically by combining sum scores of two sub-scales each, and pro-social behaviours. However, the different possible factorial structures that represent these symptoms have not been formally tested in a nationally representative sample of UK children. In addition, it is necessary to assess whether the SDQ is interpreted similarly across subgroups of the population. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were used to test three competing structures for the parent-reported SDQ collected at age 11, the start of adolescence, in the UK Millennium Cohort Study (n = 11,519), and measurement invariance was assessed according to sex and a measure of deprivation of the area in which households lived. Internal consistency using ordinal alpha, internal convergent validity and external discriminant validity using average variance explained (AVE), and predictive validity were assessed. A five-factor model and a model with two second-order factors for internalising and externalising symptoms had better model fit than a three-factor model. For both structures, invariance was demonstrated across sex and area-level deprivation. AVE scores for the five-factor model indicated that peer and emotional problems factors were measuring a similar construct, as were the hyperactivity and conduct factors. In the second-order model, AVE scores indicated internalising and externalising symptoms were distinct constructs. A second-order model with two factors for internalising and externalising symptoms is appropriate for use in a cohort of UK children born in 2001/02, and our finding of invariance across sex and area-level deprivation indicate that the SDQ can be used in analysis investigating differences in symptoms across subgroups of the population.

The influence of individual, peer, and family factors on the educational aspirations of adolescents in rural China

Educational aspirations are an important predictor of academic outcomes. While there has been considerable research on educational aspirations in the West, there has been little research in East Asia, and the investigation of factors influencing adolescent aspirations has been neglected, particularly in rural areas. Drawing on ecological systems theory and social cognitive career theory, this study investigated the associations between educational aspirations and factors at the individual, peer, and family levels among rural Chinese adolescents. A total of 606 students (Mage = 14.85 years; 50% boys) from a rural town in Central China completed questionnaires assessing their educational aspirations, individual factors (academic performance, academic self-perception, academic self-regulation, attitudes toward teachers, and goal valuation), and contextual factors (family socioeconomic status, parent and peer relationship quality, and parental and close friends’ aspirations). Individual factors and aspirations of others had significant direct effects on adolescents’ educational aspirations, while parent and peer attachments were significantly related to educational aspirations via individual factors. Family socioeconomic status was not significantly related to adolescents’ educational aspirations. The findings highlight the importance of individual factors as mechanisms explaining the link between contextual factors and rural Chinese adolescents’ educational aspirations. Our results suggest that interventions can be designed to increase and maintain the aspirations of rural Chinese youth by targeting multiple domains of influence.

Reaching and Re-Engaging People Living with HIV Who Are Out of Care: A Mixed-Methods Exploration of Patient Preferences for Strategies to Enhance Clinic Communication and Outreach.

Half of all people living with HIV (PLWH) in the United States are not retained in HIV medical care. The utility of appointment reminders and clinic-based retention support services is often limited by the inability to contact PLWH who are out of care (PLWH-OOC) due to disconnected phone lines, full voice mails, and housing instability. Between June 2019 and May 2021, as part of a larger mixed-methods study in Metro Atlanta, Georgia, we conducted surveys with 50 PLWH-OOC and interviews with 13 PLWH holding a variety of clinic stakeholder roles (patients, Community Advisory Board members, and peer navigators) to explore preferences for clinic communication and peer outreach and factors impacting uptake. Although phone calls, text messages, and calling secondary contacts were most preferred, the spread of preferences was wide. Surveys and interviews highlighted the high acceptance of peer outreach visits, with trust, support, and privacy being key factors driving the uptake. Findings underscore the need for clinics to offer a suite of communication and outreach strategies and assess patient preferences for traditional and nontraditional outreach models to more effectively reach, re-engage, and ultimately retain PLWH-OOC.

The Role of Autonomic System Coordination in Relations Between Peer Factors and Aggressive Behavior in Early Childhood.

This study tested biological sensitivity to context theory in the peer context. Respiratory sinus arrythmia (RSA-R) and skin conductance level (SCL-R) reactivity to a peer stressor were collected for participants (N = 86; M age = 45.99months old; 70.2% White) in the summer (Time 1). Children's peer risk (i.e., physical and relational victimization) and protective (i.e., received prosocial behavior) factors were examined in the fall (T2) and relational and physical aggression were measured at T2 and in the spring (T3). Interactions were tested in regression analyses. Interactions emerged between relational victimization, RSA-R, and SCL-R in the prediction of T3 relational aggression and between received prosocial behavior, RSA-R, and SCL-R in the prediction of T3 relational and physical aggression, respectively. There was a positive relation between T2 relational victimization and T3 relational aggression for children with a coactivation pattern (i.e., increased RSA and SCL activity to a bullying stressor) but no relation for any other physiological pattern. Conversely, there was a negative relation between T2 received prosocial behavior and both forms of aggression at T3 for children with a reciprocal pattern (i.e., increased RSA and decreased SCL or decreased RSA and increased SCL activity) but no protective benefit of received prosocial behavior on subsequent aggression for children with a coactivation pattern. For children with a coinhibition pattern (i.e., decreased RSA and SCL activity), received prosocial behavior was negatively related to subsequent physical but not relational aggression. In sum, a coactivation pattern in response to stress may represent a vulnerability factor.

The Role of Parents in Overcoming Adolescent Moral Crisis In Wairbleler Village, Waigete District, Sikka Regency

The role of parents is one of the roles not only as the head of the family, earning a living but the function of parents is also to educate, by instilling moral values, and parents exemplify positive behavior to adolescents. Good citizens must have good citizenship in the formation of positive young people's behavior, starting from the family implementing the religious guidance of parents in dealing with the moral crisis of adolescents. "The factors causing the moral crisis of youth in Wairbleler Village include family, economic, social environment and peer factors. So, with the moral crisis experienced by adolescents, the role of parents is needed. "Because the role of parents is the first and main guide in the family who are always closely related to teenagers, so they have a very big influence on teenagers. The life of today's youth is far from being touched by religion; this is also one of the factors in the occurrence of a teenage moral crisis. Therefore, the role of parents is very necessary in overcoming various crises, one of which is a moral crisis that occurs due to weak parental supervision. So, the role of parents is very important in guiding children, caring for children, and protecting children. The role of parents, especially in the Wairbeler village community, is to instill moral values, provide religious values, provide education and control oversight

Designing a mobile health smokeless tobacco cessation intervention in Odisha, India: User and provider perspectives.

There is limited evidence on the development of mobile health (mHealth) interventions for smokeless tobacco (SLT) cessation, despite its widespread use in South Asia. This formative qualitative study explored the perceptions of tobacco users and healthcare providers (HCPs) regarding developing a mHealth intervention for SLT cessation. This was a qualitative study using in-depth interviews (IDIs) with tobacco users (n = 26) and primary care physicians (PCPs) (n = 5) and focus group discussions (FGDs) with counsellors (n = 2) in four urban primary health centres (UPHCs) in Berhampur, Odisha from February to March 2020. The data were coded and analysed by two researchers using a framework analysis method. The discussion guides and initial codes were developed based on the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) of behaviour change. The results were elaborated under four themes: (1) Current scenario of SLT use; (2) Barriers and facilitators for quitting SLT; (3) Barriers and facilitators for mHealth counselling; and (4) Design and delivery of the proposed intervention. SLT use was prevalent in the community regardless of sociodemographic factors. Peer factors accounted for both tobacco consumption as well as considering cessation. Participants considered mobile message counselling helpful and acceptable. Not having a mobile phone and illiteracy were identified as barriers while ease of access and rising popularity of social media applications were considered facilitators to the use of mHealth for quitting tobacco. Participants preferred messages that were pictorial, short and simple, in the local language, and tailored to individual's needs. This is the first study that provides evidence within the Indian context that the text messaging platform may be used for delivering an SLT cessation intervention. The integration of a theoretical basis and research findings from target users can guide future intervention development.

Factors Affecting the Academic Performance of Grade 11 Students in General Mathematics in Tabuk City District

The study determined the factors perceived as affecting the academic performance in General Mathematics during the first semester, S.Y. 2022-2023 of the 156 Grade 11 students at the four public senior high schools in Tabuk City district. The study made use of the descriptive correlational research design with the questionnaire as the main instrument in gathering the data needed. The data gathered were coded, tabulated, and analyzed using the Statistics Program for Social Sciences (SPSS). Mean and percentage distribution were used to determine the profile of the respondents and the factors perceived to influence their performance in General Mathematics. Data were interpreted using the Likert’s scale. The relationship between the respondents’ profile and the factors perceived to influence their performance in mathematics were tested by Pearson’s Moment Correlation and ChiSquare test of independence. Of the 156 respondents, most are 17 years old with a mean age of 17.20. the Grade 11 students in Luna district are mostly females. 27.56 percent are enrolled in HUMSS, 26.92 percent in STEM, 19.23 percent in ABM, 17.95 percent in Tour Guiding/Travel Services, and 8.33 percent in Housekeeping. 96.15 percent of the respondents came from public junior high school. Most of the respondents are Ilocano with a percentage of 88.46. Most of their parents graduated in college with an average of 25.00 percent for the father and 26.92 percent for the mother. 35.00 percent of family’s monthly income ranges from ₱5,000 and below. The Grade 11 students’ extent of performance is ‘average.’ Specifically, attitude towards General Mathematics, study habit, family’s proper guidance, and class schedule as perceived by the student-respondents are ‘moderately favorable.’ Family’s support, class size, teacher’s competency, teaching strategy and mastery of the subject matter, use of instructional materials in teaching, and teacher’s attitude and working relationship are ‘favorable’ to the students’ academic performance. Peer factor indicators are perceived to be ‘influencing,’ learning materials and facilities at home are adequate, and school facilities, equipment, and/or building are ‘very adequate.’ The Grade 11 students in Tabuk City district have ‘satisfactory’ performance as evaluated through the Grading Sheet. Their age and track/strand are significantly related to their academic performance. Finally, school-related factor in terms of class size and peer factor/influence are significantly related to the students’ academic performance
