This book, originally published in 1957, is now in its fourth edition. It was then the first textbook of pediatric orthopedic surgery in English, and for some years it remained unchallenged, although now two other texts, those of Sharrard and Tachdjian, are worthy competitors. The present edition represents major changes over the last in that ten contributing authors have been enlisted, and substantial additions have been made in several portions, eg, developmental anatomy, prosthetics, treatment of scoliosis, and pictorialization of operative techniques. The original organization of the book is maintained: it is primarily regional, with chapters on the foot, the knee, the spine, etc. There are six such anatomical divisions. Six other chapters treat muscular affections, neurological disease, congenital diseases, tumors, infections, and metabolic diseases.
