Peranan Media Berbasis TPACK Terhadap Hasil Belajar Siswa Kelas IV Mi Muhammadiyah Sentono Tahun Ajaran 2023/2024

The 21st century is an era of technological advancement in this century technology plays an important role in human life from various aspects including in the world of education. Teachers are required to integrate technology in learning activities. TPACK, which stands for Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge, is a new understanding that has become a framework that can be used to analyze educators' knowledge about the use of technology in learning. The problems in this study are (1) how to implement TPACK in learning at MI Muhammadiyah Sentono Klaten (2) teacher obstacles in implementing TPACK. The purpose of this study was to determine the learning outcomes of grade IV students of MI Muhammadiyah Sentono Klaten before and after implementing the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) approach, and to determine how much influence it has on the learning outcomes of grade IV students of MI Muhammadiyah Sentono Klaten. This study is a quantitative study with descriptive and comparative methods. The descriptive method is a research method to create a picture of a situation or event, while comparative is a study that uses the technique of comparing one object with another object with interview, observation and documentation techniques.

Integrating 21st Century Skills into Teaching of Social Studies among Public Junior High School Learners in Effutu Municipality

The study examined the integration of 21st Century Skills into teaching of Social Studies among public junior high school learners in Effutu Municipality in Ghana. The study adopted Pedagogical Content Knowledge theory by Shuman (1987). The positivist paradigm was followed in the conduct of the study where quantitative data was collected and analysed. The Census sampling technique was used to select all the 50 Social Studies teachers even though 45 were correctly filled and therefore used for the study. Structured questionnaires were used as instruments for data collection. With the aid of the Version 20 of the Statistical Product for Service Solution (SPSS), descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, frequency counts, simple percentages) and inferential statistical tools such as Ordinary Least Square multiple regression analysis was used to analyse the data. The findings of the study revealed that communication and collaboration as well as digital literacy skills had very good integration whereas creativity and innovation, cultural identity and global citizenship, personal development and leadership and critical thinking and problem-solving skills registered good integration. It further showed that 21st Century Skills mentioned above accounted for 63.8% variance in learners’ academic performance. It was recommended that Ghana Education Service should initiate and encourage continuous professional development programmes for teachers in the Effutu Municipality to improve their integration of 21st Century skills and enhance teaching and learning.

Exploring Teachers' Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge as an Indicator for the Planning of In-service Teacher Training in Chemistry Education.

This study examined how teachers teaching chemistry at different levels of education perceive their levels of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) and examined the relationship of TPACK with age, gender, teaching at different levels of education, time spent teaching chemistry, and frequency of information and communication technology (ICT) use. The study involved 261 teachers, 246 women and 15 men, from all over Slovenia, who have been teaching chemistry for an average of 18 years at different levels of education, with an average age of 45 years. The results showed that teachers teaching chemistry content perceive a high level of TPACK. There is a statistically significant correlation between age, time spent teaching chemistry, and frequency of ICT use with the perceived level of technological pedagogical content knowledge. Younger teachers, those with less professional experience and teachers who use ICT more frequently rated their TPACK higher. Based on the results of the survey, guidelines for planning the in-service teacher training that would support the development of TPACK of teachers teaching chemistry content were developed.

Investigating the Differentiated Experiences of an Academician in the Transition to Distance Education Through a Documentational Framework

This study examines the documentational genesis of an academician transitioning to distance education during the pandemic. Using qualitative case study design, the research involved an associate professor in engineering at a Turkish state university. Selected via purposeful sampling, the participant was open to sharing experiences and participating in the study. Data were collected through online course video recordings, semi-structured interviews, observations and researcher notes. Content analysis was used for the data analysis, and from the obtained themes, the elements of the participant's schemes in online education, the challenges experienced, and the variations in these schemes were presented from a documentational perspective. As a result of the research, it was found that the participating academician used different types of knowledge, including both content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, in online education. Additionally, it was concluded that the academician continued to use some resources from face-to-face education during the transition to and process of online education, modified some resources to create differentiated resources, and completely abandoned some resources. Another finding of the research is that the participating academician faced many challenges during the online education process. These challenges were primarily found to be due to student-related and institutional factors. Moreover, the academician expressed both positive and negative opinions about distance education.

A PCK-mapping approach to show the integration among components of the pedagogical content knowledge of elementary education teacher educators about biodiversity

Biodiversity is a very important topic nowadays, but there is currently a lack of studies on the Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of this concept. We examined the integration of the PCK components of ten elementary education teacher educators in Argentina through a qualitative, interpretative, and exploratory study, using semi-structured interviews based on the Content Representation tool and the mapping approach. OTS and KSU were most integrated while KA was the least integrated. We discuss the implications of integration between PCK components for biodiversity teaching as a contribution to teacher training and future research.

Implementing TPACK Framewok in English Language Teaching

This study aims to identify and describe the implementation of TPACK Framework in English Language Teaching in SMPN 4 Tanjungpandan, Belitung, Kepulauan Bangka Belitung. The research is a qualitative study. The participants of this research consisted of two English teachers from SMPN 4 Tanjungpandan and the students of nineth grade. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, and documentation. Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a framework for understanding the varied forms of knowledge necessitated by EFL teachers to integrate ICT in their teaching. The results of this study indicate that implementing TPACK framework in Englis classroom gives positive impact to the learning achievements both the teachers and the students. By integrating technology learning applications such as World Wall, You Tube apps, the learning process becomes interesting and enjoyable. The participation of the students increases significantly. In the future, TPACK Framework takes part in increasing the quality English Language Teaching in Indonesia.

Mind the gap: English teachers’ perceptions and practices of integrating social media into language classrooms in China

This study investigates the perception-practice gap among English teachers in China concerning the integration of social media into teaching, blending the Language Teacher Cognition (LTC) framework with the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) model. A mixed methods approach, including the adoption of online questionnaires, instructional documents and semi-structured interviews was utilised to investigate these research questions from different perspectives. We collected 119 valid questionnaires. From these, we selected seven volunteers—those who provided their contact information and represented a range of demographic profiles—for further study. Seven instructional documents were gathered from these volunteers. Subsequently, follow-up interviews were conducted with these selected participants to gain deeper insights into their experiences and perspectives. The study revealed a significant discrepancy between moderately high perceptions and relatively low practices. This dynamic and bi-directional gap is influenced by microscopic factors like schooling and affective issues, as well as macroscopic factors such as institutional and societal influences. These factors constitute a layered system. The findings illuminate the complexities underlying the perception-practice gap in English teaching with social media integration, offering theoretical, methodological, and practical implications.

Articulation Between a Technological Model and an Educational Model to Deepen the Reflection of Prospective Mathematics Teachers

<p style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:9.0pt"><span style="color:black">This article is aimed at integrating the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) system with the Didactic Suitability Criteria (DSC) of the Didactic-Mathematical Knowledge and Competences (DMKC) system to improve the reflection of prospective mathematics teachers on online classes. Thirteen prospective teachers, divided into two subgroups, participated in a training cycle that addressed both models. Each participant used and created indicators of reflection of the assigned model to analyze an online class on functions, and subgroups exchanged reflections to examine the class from the other model’s perspective. It was noted that the DMKC model allows for a broad analysis of the class but has limitations in assessing technology and the teacher's technological knowledge, while TPACK’s emphasis is on technology and teacher knowledge but does not explicitly address mathematical interaction or affective aspects. It is concluded that combining the TPACK model and the DSC of the DMKC model can generate more complete tools to reflect on online math classes and consequently allow for a comprehensive evaluation that covers both the mathematical content and the technological and pedagogical skills of the teacher.</span></span></p>

Determinants of Students’ Mastery of English Language as the Medium of Instruction in Rwandan Universities

This study sought to investigate the determinants of students’ mastery of the English language as the medium of instruction in Rwandan universities. The study adopted a convergent parallel design (mixed approach). This allowed the researcher to get an in-depth insight into the factors that influence students’ success with English as the language of instruction in universities in Rwanda. This research was anchored on Lee Shulman’s Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) theory and Brian Tomlinson’s Language Material Development (LMD) theory. Five chosen universities from various districts of Rwanda, including Karongi, Rubavu, and Nyamasheke, participated in the study. The study involved 8121 participants, but a smaller group of 381, including 354 students and 27 lecturers, was chosen for in-depth analysis. The researcher used a combination of purposive and random sampling techniques to select this representative group, following Yamane’s formula to determine the appropriate sample size. Data collection relied on a structured questionnaire with Likert-scale options, one-on-one interviews, and document analysis. Statistical methods were used in the data analysis for the quantitative research. The numerical data was presented and summarized using descriptive statistics, and conclusions and population-wide generalizations could be made using inferential statistics. The study also explored how different factors (variables) might influence each other. A computer program called IBM SPSS Statistics 2022 helped analyze the numerical data (percentage, averages, etc.) and identify potential connections between these factors. It was found that Rwandan university students who benefit from qualified teachers, high-quality learning materials, a supportive social and linguistic environment, their age when learning the language, and a strong foundation in English from pre-university education achieve significantly higher levels of English language mastery. All these factors were shown to have a positive and statistically significant impact (p-value 0.05), suggesting that they play a crucial role in successful language learning at the university level. The study calls for a two-pronged approach to improve English language skills among students. First, it recommends the Ministry of Education implement comprehensive language programs that nurture a language-rich environment. This environment should encourage students to develop all their language skills, such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Second, the study emphasizes the role of teachers in creating a similar English-rich environment in their classrooms. By incorporating authentic English-language materials, teachers can further boost students’ English proficiency.

Desenvolvendo o Conhecimento Pedagógico do Conteúdo de Botânica na Licenciatura: Uma Experiência Transformadora Durante o Ensino Remoto Emergencial

We share a transformative experience in the subject “Strategies and Resources for Teaching Botany” during a peculiar and challenging situation: Emergency Remote Teaching (2021). The context impacted the aims and the teaching strategies. However, through the interaction of teachers, monitors and students, the initial doubts and challenges were transformed into opportunities for innovation and improvements. We evaluate that the initial aims were achieved and that the subject contributed to the development of the Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Botany by the students, who were protagonists of their learning, mainly on the process of group work developed during the subject.

What does a history teacher do? Knowing, understanding, and enacting the work of teaching history

This study considers the questions, “How do teacher candidates conceptualize the relationship among historians, history teachers, and history students?” and “How is this understanding revealed in candidates’ representation of the work they do in classrooms as history teachers?” Using a case study approach, researchers gathered data from fifteen teacher candidates in a teacher preparation program in the Midwestern United States. The data consisted of participants’ responses to three questions (What do historians do? What do history teachers do? What do history students do?) and their selections of and rationale for including artifacts in a portfolio designed to showcase “who they are” as history teachers as represented by their developing pedagogical content knowledge in history. The researchers’ findings reveal a discrepancy exists between teacher candidates’ emerging beliefs about their responsibilities as teachers and the work that they chose to highlight after having completed clinical experiences. Specifically, the findings suggest a critical disconnect exists between what teacher candidates are taught about teaching history, what they believe about teaching history, and the opportunities that they have in clinical experiences to enact these ideas. This research highlights the central yet often unexamined role of emerging teachers’ epistemic understandings in shaping opportunities for pedagogical reform in history.

The impact of PACK on the adoption of Metaverse in Oman

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, e-learning methods have emerged as a highly influential phenomenon in higher educational institutions. The adoption of e-learning has transformed traditional face-to-face teaching environments into flexible and collaborative modes of education through the utilization of the metaverse platform. However, limited research has addressed the educational aspect of students' adoption of the metaverse platform. This study aims to bridge this gap by examining a conceptual model that incorporates crucial factors such as Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), Technology Self Efficacy (TSE), Perceived Enjoyment (PE), Perceived Complexity (PC), Perceived Value (PV), and Controlled immersion, interaction, and imagination (III). A survey involving 342 students from Omani universities was conducted, revealing that TPACK positively influences metaverse adoption. The noteworthy impact of perceived enjoyment, perceived complexity, and perceived value were also observed. These findings underscore the significance of these factors in shaping the adoption of the metaverse and enhancing the e-learning experience. The practical implication of this study emphasizes the need for educational institutions to develop strategies enhancing technological skills, engagement, and content relevance in e-learning, particularly in the metaverse, to improve student adoption and learning experiences. This involves focusing on technological pedagogy, student confidence in technology use, and creating immersive, enjoyable, and valuable learning environments.

The Effects of Teacher's Competencies in the Application of Online Teaching and Learning on Students' Academic Stress, Learning Motivation, and Academic Achievement in Statistics Subject

Online learning may lead to several problems, causing academic stress that lowers student motivation. Thus, great instructor skills are needed to overcome challenges and automatically build a successful and efficient online learning process. The study examines how teacher competencies in four dimensions – Teacher’s technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK), teacher’s belief (TB), teacher’s self-efficacy (TSE), and teacher’s enthusiasm (TE) – affect students’ academic stress in the cognitive (CD), behavioral (BD), affective (AD), and physiological domains (PD), as well as learning motivation (SLM) and academic achievement (AA). The study uses multivariate regression analysis, the ordinal logistic regression, and the Structural Equation Model (SEM). Multivariate regression analysis is utilized to examine the effects partially and simultaneously of dependent and independent variables. The ordinal logistic regression is used for the same purpose but on the data with an ordinal scale; the final grade shows the AA variable. Whereas, SEM is used to investigate the relationship between complex variables. The sample retrieval technique is conducted using non-probabilistic sampling by the method of accidental sampling with 219 college students. Results show that TPACK, which is one dimension of a teacher’s competencies, negatively affects students’ academic stress, which is BD, AD, and PD. However, TPACK does not significantly affect CD. Adverse effects suggest increasing teacher’s competencies in integrating technology and pedagogies in the development of educational content, especially in online learning, and reducing or minimizing students’ academic stress. Besides that, TPACK also has a positive effect on SLM, and SLM in turn positively affects AA. On the other hand, the variable component of teachers’ competencies, such as TSE and TE, has a positive effect on CD. Likewise, CD positively affects AA, so indirectly, TSE and TE positively affect AA. Of every effect and relationship between independent and dependent variables studied, the variable to contribute most effectively to online learning is the TPACK variable. Investigating Preschool Teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Number Comparison

ABSTRACT Research Findings: The aim of this study was to investigate U.S. preschool teachers’ math pedagogical content knowledge in number comparison. Seventy-four in- and pre-service teachers completed a set of scenario-based questions from a researcher-designed questionnaire that is composed of learning scenarios. Through a mixed-method approach, the study revealed the following findings: a considerable portion of participants (89%) successfully identified the concept of number comparison embedded in a learning scenario, showcasing their specialized content knowledge. However, when it came to knowledge of content and students, only 24 participants (32%) were able to pinpoint both a child’s mathematical strength and area of need. In terms of knowledge of content and teaching, more than half of the participants (51%) recommended the utilization of hands-on materials and/or visual aids as part of their remediation techniques, while 49% did not reference these educational tools. Notably, no significant differences were observed between the pedagogical content knowledge of pre-and in-service teachers concerning number comparison. Practice or Policy: The findings indicate that teacher education and professional development should focus on helping teachers understand children’s learning trajectories on number comparison and include instructions on using concept specific developmentally appropriate strategies, and indicate that teaching experience cannot replace professional training.

Unveiling the TPACK pathways: Technology integration and pedagogical evolution in rural South African schools

The rural schooling environment in the Global South, such as South Africa, faces unique challenges due to low socio-economic status, lack of resources and poor funding. The frequent integration of technologies favoured by these rural teachers suggests, consciously or unconsciously, the development of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK). However, the process of construction and development of this specialized knowledge remains largely unknown. It is also unclear how TPACK evolves in teachers in rural schools in the Global South, particularly those who did not receive formal or informal technology instruction during their initial teacher training or through professional teacher development training. This study adopted Vygotsky's socio-cultural theory and Koehler and Mishra's TPACK framework and collected data through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and sharing circles. Findings revealed that while teachers show varying levels of TPACK, the context-specific, dynamic nature of TPACK was evident, as teachers often developed this knowledge incrementally and informally. The chapter indicates that despite the absence of structured training, teachers have begun to integrate technology into their pedagogy and content knowledge. However, their development of TPACK is uneven and emerging and often driven by personal initiative. The study concludes that for effective technology integration, teacher training programs should encompass TPACK's nuanced, contextual, and evolving aspects. Implications suggest that mentoring and continuous professional development are essential to enhance teachers’ technological integration skills, thereby improving teaching and learning in rural settings. Implications underscore the importance of continuous professional development and the establishment of supportive school cultures to nurture technology integration, thereby contributing to the pedagogical evolution in rural South African schools.

Investigating Preservice Teachers’ Conceptualizations of Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching Through Video Analysis

Mathematics Preservice Teachers’ (M-PSTs) conceptions of Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) enhance their reflective skills because they utilize such conceptions to reflect on how to contextualize content knowledge during secondary mathematics teaching. While previous studies suggested M-PSTs develop MKT, including pedagogical content knowledge by analyzing teaching in video lessons, how M-PSTs enhance their conceptions of MKT through such analysis is underexplored. I used a collective case study approach to investigate how four secondary M-PSTs conceptualized MKT when they analyzed and discussed teaching represented in a video lesson using the MKT framework. The findings indicated that the M-PSTs often described teacher knowledge either as purely pedagogical or solely content knowledge in their initial analyses of the video lesson. After engaging in a discussion that introduced the MKT framework, the M-PSTs began to illustrate how a teacher’s content knowledge influenced her instructional decisions and actions. Through this discussion, M-PSTs began identifying MKT as professional content knowledge unique to teaching and, thus, distinguished MKT from generic pedagogical or content knowledge. I argue that the language and concepts offered through the framework enhanced the M-PSTs’ conceptions of MKT and suggest that the instructional activities from this study contribute to developing M-PSTs as reflective practitioners.

Using the UTAUT-TPACK model to explain digital teaching behaviour of elementary school mathematics teacher

ABSTRACT The appropriate use of digital technology in the classroom is very helpful to improve mathematics teaching in elementary school. However, the current situation of elementary school mathematics teachers’ digital teaching behaviour is not optimistic. This study analysed the factors influencing elementary school mathematics teachers’ digital teaching behaviour. A revised unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model with technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) was used to understand elementary school mathematics teachers’ digital teaching behaviour. A questionnaire survey was conducted in Hunan province of China. Three hundred elementary school mathematics teachers provided valid questionnaire data. The partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) approach was used to analyse the data. It was found that TPACK and facilitating conditions positively and significantly affected digital teaching behaviour of elementary school mathematics teachers, and TPACK was the biggest influential factor. The research results have important implications for improving digital teaching behaviour of elementary school mathematics teachers and promoting digital transformation of elementary school mathematics education.

How to Assess Mathematics Teachers’ TPACK? A Comparison Between Self-Reports and Knowledge Tests

AbstractTeachers need technology-related knowledge to effectively use technology in the classroom. Previous studies have often used self-reports to assess such knowledge. However, it is questionable whether self-reports are valid measures for this purpose. This study investigates how mathematics teachers’ self-reports correlate with their scores in a paper–pencil knowledge test regarding TPCK (technological pedagogical content knowledge), CK (content knowledge), pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), and technological knowledge (TK). Participants were $$N = 173$$ N = 173 pre- and in-service mathematics teachers. To assess self-reports, we adapted an existing survey from the literature. We also compiled a knowledge test based on items from existing test instruments. To increase comparability between the two instruments, both the self-report and the paper–pencil knowledge test addressed the specific topic of fractions. The four subscales in both instruments had sufficient reliability. The correlations between the self-reports and the paper–pencil test scores were low or very low for all subscales $$\left(r=.00-.23\right)$$ r = . 00 - . 23 , suggesting that the two instruments captured different underlying constructs. While paper–pencil tests seem more suitable for assessing knowledge, self-reports may be influenced more strongly by participants’ personal traits such as self-efficacy. Our findings raise concerns about the validity of self-reports as measures of teachers’ professional knowledge, and the comparability of studies that use distinct assessment instruments. We recommend that researchers should be more cautious when interpreting self-reports as knowledge and rely more strongly on externally assessed tests.

Transitioning to Post-Pandemic Learning Modes

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a major shift toward educational system in Indonesia. The face to face interaction in classroom was forced to change in online classroom. Despite some major challenges in adapting to the new situation during the pandemic, recent studies have shown that teachers are getting used to it. After approximately two years of adaption to online learning, as the government of Indonesia officially declares that social distancing and restrictions to people’s activity is null and void. This means that teachers need to shift once again to offline instructional process. Even though the instructional process is shifting back, there is still unanswered questions regarding the readiness of the teacher to teach offline since many scholars state that it is impossible to leave the technology behind. This study employs a quantitative survey design to examine the readiness of teachers during the transition of learning process after pandemic from their perspective. There are 15 teachers involved in this study who have passed the criteria to be subjects of the study. The findings and discussion of this study is hoped to give contribution to the knowledge of continuous professional development, technological acceptance model, and technological and pedagogical content knowledge.
