The legal of Capitalists and Corporations to be charged with claims for pecuniary damages in cases of injuries received by individuals through a claimed negligence, was established by the English Parliament in the year 1846, and is widely known as Lord Campbell's Liability Act. Somewhat similar statutes were subsequently enacted by the State Legislatures of this country, and this responsibility on the part of carriers and employers is generally regarded as wise and tending to the proper protection of life and limb. In Great Britain the liability act is the same throughout the Kingdom, but in the United States it varies somewhat in different States, especially in the amount of damages that can be claimed.
