Evaluation of the results of the implementation of a product data management system in the technology department of a high-tech enterprise

The technology department at any manufacturing enterprise is engaged in ensuring the release of new high-quality products on time with high economic efficiency. Depending on how successfully the technical department functions, the quality of technical documentation and, as a result, the quality of products depends. In this regard, it is necessary to constantly improve the efficiency of this department through the introduction of new management solutions, including those based on the use of modern software. This article discusses the process of introducing a product data management system into the technology department of a high-tech enterprise. A modified reengineering algorithm for the technical department is presented, functional modeling of business processes in the IDEF0 rotation is considered, and functional models are built. A small economic evaluation of the results of the implementation of the PDM system in the technology department is also carried out, and the results are presented. It is shown that the greatest effect of using a product data management system lies in two areas: reducing time to market and improving product quality. Thus, the introduction of the proposed system can significantly improve the quality of the production process not only in the department in question but throughout the enterprise.

Fast Industrial Product Design Method and its Application Based on 3D CAD System

With the rapid development of science and technology and the emergence of new technologies, the speed of product upgrading has accelerated, and the life cycle has been significantly shortened, leading to increasingly fierce market competition. Through the analysis of the enterprise product development process, combined with CAD-based product rapid design technology and parametric design technology, this paper proposes a product configuration editor based on three-dimensional software with a visual interface, and combines it with the PDM system. A software system that can be applied to actual product development is formed. Finally, the feasibility of a vehicle steering gear product design process is proved in practice. The research of this article mainly has the following two aspects of academic significance: this article describes the process of product development and design by enterprises under the mass customization production mode. After analyzing the application of CAD technology in the product design process, we studied how to use advanced design knowledge to combine specific three-dimensional CAD software for rapid product design, which can guide manufacturing companies to better carry out product design work. It is proposed to improve and perfect the initial configuration results of products in a specific three-dimensional design environment, and it can communicate with data management systems such as PDM. The configuration results can be edited and modified in the 3D design environment, and when specific parts need to be modified and designed, the parametric module embedded in the 3D design software can be used to design directly, avoiding multiple heterogeneous systems switching back and forth between, shorten the development cycle. In addition, for enterprises, the research in this article is also of great application significance.

SYSTEM BASED COMPONENT IDENTIFICATION USING COORDINATE DETERMINATION IN MIXED REALITY

AbstractThe maintenance of an industrial plant is mainly based on analogue and manual methods and processes. In the future, the maintenance data of the real object should be determined digital and transferred to a PDM system in real time. This is made possible with a digital method of component identification. This publication presents a system-based component identification using Mixed Reality. Coordinates are determined by the terminal device and compared with a reference structure. After successful identification, maintenance data can be determined and automatically transferred to a PDM System.

System-based concept for a mixed reality supported maintenance phase of an industrial plant

Inspection and maintenance processes have been researched for many years. However, the possible applications of extended reality in these processes is a new field of research that has to be developed. Within current paper an approach to optimize the existing, analogously documented processes by using extended reality is presented. The maintenance of an industrial plant is mainly based on analogue and manual methods and processes. Usually all maintenance information is documented analogously and transferred to the corresponding management systems with a certain delay after the inspection. The time delay can lead to data loss and errors and can also occur during transmission to an appropriate system. In the future, the maintenance data and changes to the real object should be determined digital and transferred to the data management system in real time. A digital twin should enable the unambiguous assignment of the data to the corresponding elements and thus represent a virtual representation of the AS-IS state of the industrial plant. The required process data will be collected in Mixed Reality and then transferred to a PDM-System. To transfer the data records without loss, a system model can be used as an interface between the Microsoft HoloLens mixed reality device and the PDM system. The HoloLens enables the determination of a coordinate point from the combination of gaze vector and the position of the observer. The coupled system model allows this coordinate point to be compared with a coordinate field within the reference model to determine the component. This paper presents a concept to create a system-based digital twin for the maintenance phase of an industrial plant to enable the data transmission from mixed reality to a PDM-System.

Barriers to reuse of codified engineering knowledge in product development - a literature review

Organisations have for a long time been applying a codification strategy, to build and reuse engineering knowledge throughout product development and the product lifecycle. Billions of dollars have been invested in systems to support knowledge capture, including investments in IT systems and upgrades to PDM/PLM systems to support knowledge codification (documentation) and reuse. Nonetheless, research has shown that knowledge documentation is not used to the extent possible and quality issues within products that should be avoided still occur. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to review barriers that hinder valuable and effective codified knowledge reuse inside high technology product development companies. The study resulted in the identification of 18 barriers mapped into the typology of people, organisation and technology. The study contributes by providing insights for the design and implementation of knowledge management systems (KMS) allowing practitioners to develop strategies to overcome identified potential barriers and improve the engineering knowledge reuse strategy. The paper is also rounded up with a discussion regarding the KMS relation and potential integration with a PDM or PLM system.

Supporting the Modelling and Managing of Relations in the Design Platform

AbstractA common strategy which has in many cases become a necessity in product developing companies is to apply platform thinking to some extent. Engineer-to-order (ETO) companies are firms that need to invest in a significant amount engineering time in each product ordered by customers. These companies have in the past been known to not be fully able to apply platform strategies. An area of concern to product development is the design and manufacture of machine tools aimed for part manufacturing which is a large investment and a critical bottle neck. As a response to these challenges the design platform (DP) concept was developed which is founded on the re-use of company assets. This paper aims to investigate the application of the DP in a company designing and producing unique high-pressure die casting tools for different applications and customers. To enable companies of this character to utilize platform thinking to a higher degree and thus increase the efficiency in product development, a focus is set on modelling and managing relations within the DP. In addition, a PDM system setup is proposed together with an integrated support application for the realisation in industry.

The concept and method of designing the equipment of the aggregate-assembly production of aircraft based on their electronic design

A concept and a technique for designing the equipment for assembly-and-assembly production have been developed for practical implementation in the technological preparation of production using the example of the central section of the An 148 aircraft based on its electronic design and technology layout in the integrated CAD / CAM / CAE / PDM system and virtual reality .Formulated basic requirements for assembly tooling in 3-D digital conditions.design and technological preparation of production and the created electronicdesign and technological documentation in the process of 3-D digital KTPP aggregatebut assembly production.There are 3-D digital models of equipment, office equipment and tools on stationary equipment, robotic systems for opening holes and mounting hardware in stands and assembly devices, and other components.The methodology and technological recommendations for the design of assembly devices developed on electronic models of components and assemblies, as well as the creation of electronic documentation for the assembly devices for assemblies and stocks of the general assembly of the center section in the corporate CAD / CAM / CAE / PDM and BP systems are developed.The results of the development of the virtual reality software-technological complex are given on the example of the development of the directive technological process of assembling the wing center section of the An 148 aircraft using integrated systems.

Simultaneous demultiplexing of 2 × PDM-PAM4 signals using simplified receiver.

Simultaneous transmission of two polarization-division-multiplexing four-level pulse-amplitude-modulation (2 × PDM-PAM4) signals is proposed, and a simplified receiver is used for demultiplexing two data streams. Experimental results at 160-Gbit/s show that the power penalty of each data stream is ~0.4-dB (back-to-back) and ~1-dB (25-km transmission) compared with the single PDM system. Furthermore, the stabilization of the proposed scheme is investigated. The BER fluctuation is <0.5-dB at a polarization scrambling rate up to 1417.5-deg/s.

Efficiency of documentation flow at scientific and engineering enterprises

A choice of a suitable document management automation system often becomes a highly complicated task. Such systems are currently available in big variety. Apart from that, each enterprise has its own specifics, while small and medium-sized scientific &amp; engineering enterprises have also a wide range of small-scale orders. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate a reasonable approach to the choice of a document management system to be efficient for a particular enterprise. The expediency is showed for creating a uniform information space for data exchange at a scientific &amp; engineering enterprise. The author proposes modelling methods and algorithms enabling to decrease the number of generated documents and resources consumed for generation thereof. UML diagrams of the uniform information space have been described. Modelling of local document flows of enterprises has been performed with the help of Petri net: a conclusion has been made on multiplicity and increase in the number of documents in each cycle of the production process. Introduction of the PDM system has been supported and one of the stages of creation of the uniform information space has been described: it is possible to track in real time mode the timelines for execution of documents, ready-made documents and to make the necessary managerial decisions, thereby improving efficiency of the workflow and production process. The authors has demonstrated the implementation of the developed methods and models for a medium-sized scientific &amp; production enterprise in real practice and has provided recommendations on introduction of document management automation systems at such enterprises.

Research on Configurable Workflow Technology in PDM System

This paper analyzed the deficiency of the static process management in the traditional PDM workflow system, and proposed a new configurable workflow system model for the dynamic and multiple characteristics of the equipment product design business process. On the basis of PDM workflow engine, the model introduced the configurable workflow form and logic processing program, the total workflow template definition and customized workflow participant selection module, and put forward the key technology solutions. This model could solve the problem of the lack of flexibility in workflow design and maintenance. It had been successfully applied to the design management process for multiple equipment products, and improved the dynamic process management capability of PDM system.

An Integrated Approach to Development And Simulation Manufacturing Processes of Optical Products

Abstract The engineering management process and automation method for making pilot set of optical polymer parts used in LED systems are considered. Optical system and lens geometry development are realized in Zemax. 3D model and molding tools with further generating of NC coded data are developed in Cimatron E. Pre simulation of injection molding process is realized in Moldex 3D and thermo-mechanical analysis is provided by OOFELIE. 3D printer Objet is used for parts prototyping on different stages of the process. Data and process management are realized with a help of PDM system SmarTeam.

The Enterprise Information System Application Platform Architecture and Key Technologies of the Complete Sets of Electrical Appliances Enterprise

This article analyzes the characteristics of complete sets of electrical appliances enterprise production and the current situation and the demand situation of enterprise information application, points out that the complete sets of electrical appliances enterprise information platform should be based on product data management, including CAX/CAPP/PDM/ERP integrated application platform. In this platform architecture, information integration of product data management is responsible for the management of design and process, generate BOM design and process of BOM, form the basis for ERP data, and ERP is responsible for the order of the original information input, logistics and cash flow. Using the corresponding interface design, PDM and ERP will keep database exchange of information. In the J2EE platform, establish the enterprise PDM and ERP system prototype. In system implementation, the phases of the modular structure, construct the enterprise information platform of the system. As to demonstrate the application, in a relatively short period of time, complete the implementation of a complete set of electric enterprise information system, and achieved remarkable results.

The Design and Implementation of PDM System for Small and Medium Enterprises

PDM technology is an indispensable tool for enterprise information integration .Analyses problems of current product data management for small and medium enterprises (SME). A system architecture based on C/S and B/S is put forwarded .Workflow technology based on database is adopted for workflow management .An integration design based on single source of interface database is adopted to realize the integration of current application .This system gives room for advance toward internet. An example is used to show the implementation of PDM system.
