The paper deals with the several firing control methods of the self-controlled converter-fed synchronous motor machine-side converter. Applying the Park vector method, the optimal-, shaft-, flux-, and voltage-triggered firing controls were investigated theoretically. Based on the received and even partly new results for practical application the modified shaft control, the flux direction dependent firing control and the firing control triggered by the subtransient flux are recommended, all of them having good torque performance during operation (high exploitations of the converter and the machine). Finally the article presents test results of a flux-triggered converter-fed synchronous motor.
