Development of an Android Application for Smart Farming in Crop Management

Agriculture technologies have shown potential to improve agriculture management. This awareness has attracted researchers to develop technologies for farmers to ease their daily routine and also to reduce cost of labor and increase the yield production. Smartphone is one of the gadgets that can be useful in agriculture because of its useful functions, portability and affordable. It helps users to find locations, access information and capture images and sound. Smartphone functions can be combined to build versatile mobile agriculture applications. These helps to deliver information about crops and management needs. This paper develops an Android application for smart farming in crop management known as Padi2U. Padi2U is a mobile application developed to help farmers in their paddy field management. The application is developed using Master App Builder, a software that is used to create mobile applications. This application contains information about PadiU Putra paddy variety, agriculture agency, sites information, planting schedule, drone images, paddy disease, pest, weed, weather forecast, yield information and farmer report. All information is described in the native language of the farmers that is the Malay language. Final results of this project is the mobile application which will is useful to manage crops and improve the management. The same method can be applied to different crops in the future.

Paddy variety identification using hyperspectral imagery under non-ideal illumination conditions

Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) has shown great potential in the use of paddy variety identification. However, the quality of HSI images taken by a hyperspectral camera under non-ideal illumination is vulnerable to environmental influences such as shadows and noises, leading to a degraded identification result. This problem is addressed in this study by a two-stage image processing method. First, to eliminate the influence of shadows, a grayscale image based on the reflectance slope is synthesized. The synthetic reflectance slope image (SRSI) is binarized for image segmentation and shape features extraction. Secondly, an HSI image de-noising technology based on weighted spatial filtering (WSF), which integrates both spatial and spectral information of the HSI image, is proposed to reduce the influence of noises. Finally, the extracted shape, spectral and texture features are combined and input into the support vector machine for paddy variety identification. Four varieties of paddy with different origins were tested in the experiments. The experiment results showed that compared with color images, the SRSIs could help obtain more accurate shape features. The results also showed that the WSF method can significantly reduce noises and improves the paddy variety identification accuracy.

Design of Capacitive Paddy Moisture Sensor Based on Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy Analysis

The intelligent control of the paddy drying process is an prominent development trend and the accurate detection of paddy moisture content is the basis for the intelligent control of the paddy drying process. For the design of a paddy moisture sensor, electrical impedance spectroscopy experiments of the paddy variety Wu Yu Jing 3 (Oryza sativa L.) were conducted to optimize the excitation frequency and establish a paddy moisture detection model. By analyzing the change of paddy capacitance in moisture ranging from 14% to 29% over the frequency ranging from 100 Hz to 1 MHz with temperature ranging from 40 °C to 80 °C, 2 kHz is selected as the excitation frequency for paddy moisture detection in this study. Two-thirds of the experimental data points (i.e., 55 experiments points) at 2 kHz were modeled by regression analysis and the remaining one-third of the experimental data points (i.e., 28 experiments points) were used to evaluate the paddy moisture detection models. The R2 of the paddy moisture detection model was 0.933 and the standard deviation of fitting test was 1.14%. A paddy moisture sensor was designed, and the standard deviation of the detection residual was 1.23%, which was close to the standard deviation 1.14% in the fitting test.

Pertumbuhan dan Produksi Tanaman Padi Varietas Inpara-3 pada Tanah Tergenang yang Diberikan Abu Batubara

Paddy cultivation in South Kalimantan is a priority activity undertaken by various parties to create national food security and make Indonesia a world food barn in 2045. Increasing paddy production can always be supported by various supports, marginal swamp investment with various limiting soil fertility and strive for it to be planted with superior paddy varieties. The purpose of this study is to try to utilize ameliorant from coal fuel (fly ash) added to from three soil typology as swampy wetlands, tidal lands, and peat soils to improve the performance and growth of paddy varieties in Inhibrida Padi Rawa 3 (INPARA-3). This study uses a Completely Randomized Design in models nested factorial, using the application of fly ash given to each typology of the soil obtained. This research was conducted at the Greenhouse Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. Giving fly ash in each type of soil is carried out by its bulk density. Fly ash given is 60 t.ha-1which is converted to 309.36 grams in each polybag of soil for soils from swampy land, 374.52 grams in each polybag soil for soil from tidal swamps and 519.56 grams in each polybag peat soil. From the analysis of the growth and production performance of paddy, planted on peat soils given fly ash, showed positive results on all parameters discussed, but different from the performance and growth of paddy that was planted on the ground from the soil, tides are given fly ash, only showed positive results on plant parameters height, height increase, number of tillers, grain dry weight, and longest roots of paddy. Analysis of growth and production performance was also carried out on paddy in the soil from swampy land, it appeared positive only on the parameters of grain dry weight, plant dry weight (without roots, panicles, and grain).

Endophytic Fungi of Salt Adapted <i>Ipomea pes-caprae</i> L. R. Br: their Possible Role in Inducing Salinity Tolerance in Paddy (<i>Oryza sativa</i> L.)

Endophytic fungi occur ubiquitously in all plants. Though their origin and evolution is enigmatic, they are known to play an important role in plant growth and development. Here we explore the endophytic fungal diversity of a perennial cree ping vine, Ipomea pes-caprae (family Convolulaceae), occurring naturally in the coastal sand dunes of peninsular India. Of the ten endophytes isolated from the plant, Fusarium oxysporum (MH511104) was found to grow even at 2 M NaCl in potato dextrose agar medium. The fungus was able to successfully colonize and impart salinity tolerance to salt -sensitive paddy variety, IR-64. We discuss these results in the context of increasing global interest on endophytes as a possible alternative route to crop i mprovement.

Effect on Crystallinity of Rice After Iron Fortification

Background: Iron-deficiency anaemia (IDA) is the most common nutritional disorder observed in India particularly in under-five- year-old children, adolescent girls and pregnant women. Objective: The present study pioneered an investigation, into one of the varieties of paddy (IR-64) and their fortification with sodium iron EDTA salt, its physical properties, cooking characteristics, color, texture and characterization studies. Methods: Fortification was done at two concentrations 1.88g/kg and 3.39g/kg (250 & 450 mg/kg corresponding iron content), it was found that the iron content increased three to four-fold after fortification when compared to their corresponding controls. Results: The results revealed that, there was significant difference in the physical properties of rice in the control, fortified brown and milled rice. Cooking characteristics revealed, that water uptake and volume expansion were higher for fortified milled rice as compared to brown rice. The texture of fortified brown rice was hard as compared to fortified milled rice, although the taste was found satisfactory. The colour was significantly different in brown and milled rice. Conclusion: X-ray diffraction results revealed the polycrystalline nature of the fortified sample, was somewhat less crystalline as compared to control sample.

Comparative Studies on Dimensional, Gravimetric and Frictional Properties of Chhattisgarh Popular Paddy Varieties for Suitability of Flaked Rice (Paha)

The present study on different characteristics of some selected varieties of paddy was undertaken to study dimensional, gravimetric and frictional properties of paddy. The physical properties such as average length, width, thickness, geometric mean diameter, aspect ratio, sphericity, volume, surface area, L/B ratio, true density, bulk density, porosity, angle of repose and coefficient of friction on different surfaces of paddy varieties were measured to have an initial information of the input. All varieties have different dimensional properties, for the length of Rajeshwari, Durgeshwari and Mahamaya paddy variety 9.21 to 9.34 mm, for width 2.41 to 2.79 mm and for thickness 1.83 to 2.45 mm respectively. The geometric mean diameter and aspect ratio for Rajeshwari, Durgeshwari and Mahamaya paddy variety was observed 3.43 to 4.08 mm and 25.21 to 30.13% respectively. True density and bulk density of Rajeshwari, Durgeshwari and Mahamaya paddy variety were observed 1056.86 to 1350.43 kg/m3 and 580.18 to 695.77 kg/m3 respectively. The angle of repose of Rajeshwari, Durgeshwari and Mahamaya paddy variety was observed 42.23° to 48.51°.

Serangan Sitophilus oryzae Pada Beras Dari Beberapa Varietas Padi dan Suhu Penyimpanan

<p>Post-harvest with storage are important to maintain the supply of rice. One of the obstacles found in storing rice is the attack of <em>Sitophilus oryzae</em> which is responsible of causing yield loss. The attack of <em>S. oryzae</em> on rice can be caused by storage temperature and protein content on rice. The objective of this research was to determine the attack rate of <em>S.oryzae</em> in several paddy varieties and different storage temperatures. The research was conducted in Laboratory of Pest and Plant Disease Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Sebelas Maret from March-June 2019. The method used was Nested Design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The treatments given were storage temperature (29<sup>o</sup>C, 39<sup>o</sup>C, 49<sup>o</sup>C and 59<sup>o</sup>C) and paddy varieties (brown rice, black rice, Rojolele and IR64). Observation variable were number of imago, pupae, larvae, percentage of decrease in rice weight, broken rice and rice powder. The results showed that S. oryzae was able to survive at a storage temperature of 29<sup>o</sup>C. Storage temperatures which increased by more than 29°C causing mortality of S.oryzae up to 100%. The longer storage time will cause an increase in population and S.oryzae attack rate.</p>

Feasibility of Swamp Paddy Farming with New Superior Varieties and Different Planting System

One technology that can be developed on swamp land is utilization of new superior variety and planting system. Economic feasibility is one of considerations for farmers to adopt a technology innovation. The study aimed to determine the combination of the most economically viable new superior variety and planting system to be developed in swamp rice farming. The study was conducted from May-August 2016 in Karang Anyar Village Semidang Alas Maras district, Seluma Regency. There are 7 New Superior Varieties of swamp paddy cultivated; Inpara 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, and Dendang and 1 existing variety as benchmark variety, Cigeulis. The planting system applied were legowo planting system (2:1) with insertion and without insertion. The data used to achieve the research objectives is primary data in the form of farming data to calculate economic benefits and feasibility. Farm profit is calculated using partial analysis whereas economic feasibility is calculated by evaluating the break even point and R/C ratio. The results showed that Inpara 6 with legowo planting system with insertion yield the largest profit Rp 15.096.600,-/ha with R/C ratio of 2.92.

Performance of paddy varieties in salt affected soil

In Cuddalore district, paddy is the major cereal crop. Some part of Vridhachalam, Parangipettai, Nallur and Mangalore blocks of Cuddalore district soils are affected by saline and sodic soil resulting in low productivity in paddy. In order to enhance the yield in saline and sodic, efforts were taken to identify suitable rice varieties. The present field-oriented research was done under the close supervision of soil scientist of Farm Science Centre through organizing On-Farm Trails (Assessment) at five different locations. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the performance of paddy varieties in salt affected soils of Cuddalore district. The blocks having desired EC, pH and ESP were taken for the assessment of rice varieties. Keeping the parameters mentioned earlier, Parangipettai and Vridhachalam block of Cuddalore district was opted for the study.Uniform cultural practices were applied to all the varieties up to maturity. Proper plant protection measures were taken according to the incidence of pest and diseases. The on-Farm Testing consist of three paddy variety viz., BPT 5204 (Farmer practice), TRY 3 and Gangavathi Sona-05-01 as test varieties were taken for assessment. The results showed that paddy variety TRY 3 recorded maximum yield, yield attributes and net return when compared to Gangavathi sona and farmer’s practice. TRY 3 paddy variety registered highest yield of 6.37 t/ha followed by Gangavathi sona 05-01 (5.57 t/ha) and BPT 5204 (5.38 t/ha). TRY 3 recorded 18.40 per cent higher yield over farmer’s practice and 14.36 per cent over Gangavathi sona. Net return was recorded maximum of in TRY 3 followed by Gangavathi sona 05-01 and BPT 5204. TRY 3 recorded 32.40 per cent higher net return over farmer’s practice and 23.71 per cent over Gangavathi sona. The trial farmers expressed that, TRY 3 performed comparatively better than other two varieties in respect of major diseases like bacterial blight and blast. To conclude, TRY 3 variety can be recommended for salt affected soils based on the study result.

Evaluation of different varieties of paddy for production of flaked rice

Study was conducted which title is “Evaluation of different varieties of paddy for production of flaked rice” to evaluate and flaking characteristics of 4 different paddy varieties from the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, JNKVV Jabalpur, M.P. The moisture content of paddy varieties varied from 11.38 to 11.99% (wb). Average length, width, thickness, geometric mean diameter, aspect ratio, porosity, true density, bulk density and coefficient of friction were measured. All varieties had different dimensions, the average length varied from 8.50 to 9.90 mm, average width varied from 2.02 to 3.15 mm, Average test weight varied from 26.06 to 31.21g, Bulk density and true density varied from 0.58 to 0.68 g/ml and 1.12 to 1.45 g/ml, Angle of repose 29.34 to 32.45 respectively. The flaking characteristic was found average for different flaking parameters and best flaking was obtain by the JR-81 and Kranti varieties. It was found that moisture content, fat content, protein content was decreased and ash content was increased after processing of flaked rice. Above mentioned data showed that variety JR-81, Kranti, MTU- 1010 and IR- 64 were found best for flaked rice. Sensory quality of flaked rice was observed best quality flaked rice of JR-81 variety followed by kranti, MTU-1010 and IR-64. The physical characteristics of the rice varieties varied with higher the bulk density for Kranti and variety, which had good flaking characteristics for preparation of flaked rice. Minimum protein content of variety was observed in JR-81 and IR-64, which could be the reason for better flaking quality. Higher flaking characteristics were observed for each variety at 150-160 oC roasting temperature. flaking yield was found to be higher for JR-81 and kranti variety and was also given higher sensory score. The amylose content of kranti had similar characteristics as JR-81 and was rated high in sensory acceptability. Hence, kranti can be recommended for flaking purposes.

Comparative study of growth and yield attributes of different paddy cultivars under Tarai region of Uttar Pradesh

Paddy is a predominant kharif crop of Tarai region of Uttar Pradesh which plays a major role in augmenting the income of small and marginal farmers of tarai region of Uttar Pradesh. One of the major constraints of low productivity of paddy is non-adoption of improved package of practices. In this view, a study was carried out at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kushinagar farm during the kharif season 2015-16 with ten high yielding varieties of paddy under three categories, scented fine category viz. HUBR-10-9(V3), HUBR-2-1(V1), HUR-4-3(V7), P-1121(V10), P-1612(V6), fine category viz. BPT-5204(V8), HUR-36(V5), HUR-3022(V2) and coarse category viz. P-44(V9), Saryu-52(V4). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The observation were recorded on growth attributing traits viz. plant height (cm), number of tillers per sq.mt., leaf area index and dry matter of plant (g per sqm.) and yield attributing traits viz. Number of panicles per plant, panicle length (cm), number of grains per panicle, number of fertile grains per panicle, grain yield (q/ha), straw yield (q/ha) and grain: straw ratio. Good agricultural practices (GAP) were applied to raise healthy paddy crop. Maximum grain yield was recorded under V4 (59.5 q/ha) which was statistically at par with V3 (57.5 q/ha), V7 (55 q/ha), V9 (59.33 q/ha) and significantly superior than rest other varieties, while under scented group V3 recorded highest yield (57.5 q/ha) and under fine rice group V7 recorded highest yield (55 q/ha) both V3 and V7 are at par with V4. Maximum straw yield was recorded under V9 (70.5 q/ha) which was statistically at par with V3 (70.2 q/ha), V4 (70 q/ha), V7 (65 q/ha) and significantly superior than rest other varieties. Grain: straw ratio was maximum recorded under V4, V7 and V9 (0.85) which was statistically at par with rest other varieties. Although Saryu-52 is predominant paddy variety in this region and its yield was found maximum but it is closely related to P-44 (under coarse grain category). So it can be replaced by P-44. Under fine category BPT-5204 is predominant paddy variety in this region but its yield is poor and badly affected by draught and diseases, so under fine category it could be replace by HUR-3022 and under scented group HUBR-10-9 could be promoted in this region.

Comparison of microwave drying and oven-drying techniques for moisture determination of three paddy (Oryza sativa L.) varieties

BackgroundThe standard method for grain moisture measurement is the conventional air oven-drying technique. This method requires a longer period of time to determine the moisture content (m.c.). Although electric moisture meters are popular in rice industries, it has to be calibrated frequently with the oven-drying method. Therefore, an alternative but fast and reliable method is required, especially, for the grain marketing industries.ResultsThree different sizes of paddy (Oryza sativa L.) samples (Bg 300-intermediate bold, Bg 358-short round and At 405-long slender) were used for this study. Five different moisture levels (12–20% wet basis) were prepared by adding known amounts of water. Relationship between the microwave oven and hot air oven moisture values were evaluated using Pearson, Spearman and Kendall correlation coefficient methods. The linear regression relationship was also established between hot air oven and microwave oven moisture determination methods. According to the data, except for 870 W of absorbed MW power setting level, the other two MW power setting (265 W and 550 W) showed a significant statistical correlation (r > 0.55, P < 0.01) between the air oven and MW oven m.c. values of the three paddy samples. However, MW settings of 550 W for 7 min of absorbed power indicated a significantly higher regression coefficient of determination (r2 = 0.94, P < 0.01) with air oven m.c. values.ConclusionFrom the study, it can be concluded that the domestic microwave oven can be successfully used to determine the moisture content of different paddy varieties as an alternative method to the conventional air oven-drying method.

Analysis of sensory characteristic rice of Padi Gogo (dry land paddy) at Aceh Province

Agricultural vision Indonesia on 2045 is to become world food producers. In status, there has been reduction of paddy field at Aceh province caused by land use changes, furthermore, the reliable solution is optimizing a dry land use, locally estimated reach up to 200.000 ha. Several institutions have been developing dry land of paddy varieties (padi gogo), which suitable planted in dry land and rainfed area. The objectives of this research were to obtain rice character and rice grains shape which suites on Acehnese preference. Location of rice planting was at Tangse sub district, Pidie district, Aceh province, the varieties including Inpago 8, 9, 11, Unsoed, Limboto and Tuwoti. To find out the sensory characteristic of the rice, hedonic test was performed with the number of panelist were 31 (half-classified). In this research, we observed parameters were taste, aroma, color, and texture as well as rice grains shape. The analyzing of the data used kruskal-wallis test. Result of the study shows that the main parameters was significant different (asymp sig.000), on dry land paddy (padi gogo). Overall, the panelist more tends likes the Limboto variety.

Method of producing parboiled rice without steam by fluidized bed dryer

A more simple methodology of producing parboiled rice is subject to be investigated in this work with proposed the method, the gelatinization of rice starch, commonly taking place at the steaming step in the traditional process, and drying are combined and replaced by a hot air fluidized bed dryer. A pilot-scale continuous fluidized bed, with a maximum capacity of 140-150 kg/h, has been designed, constructed and tested. Suphanburi 90 paddy variety with high amylose content was dipped into hot water at temperatures of 70, 80, 83°C for 4.0, 3.3, 3.2 h, respectively, to get the moisture content around 47-55% db and dried at 150-170°C using air speed of 3.5 m/s. The paddy bed depth within the dryer was 3 and 5 cm. In the dryer operation, the exhaust air was fully recycled and reheated again by 30 kW electrical heaters to the desired temperature. The experimental result has shown that parboiled rice with a different degree of starch gelatinization could be produced by this technique. The degree ranged between 80-100% as examined by differential scanning calorimeter. The exit moisture content was given in a range of 14-21% db, relying on the drying temperature and soaking time. The aforementioned exit moisture contents were not a detrimental effect on head rice yield although the tempering was not included. The head rice yield was given in the range of 59-66%, depending on the degree of starch gelatinization. The starch granules lost their original shape as revealed by scanning electron microscope.

Assessment of microbial bioformulation Halo-Zinc on performance of paddy in partially reclaimed sodic soils of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh

An on-farm trial was conducted at KVK Hardoi during Kharif 2017 and 2018 to evaluate the performance of liquid bioformulation (Halo-Zinc) by treating seeds of paddy variety NDR 3112 on yield and it’s parameters in partially reclaimed sodic soils of the district. From average data of trial of two years it was observed that the T2 as seed treatment with Halo-Zinc of paddy variety showed higher average grain yield (46.05 q ha-1) and average straw yield (67.6 q ha-1) as compared to the farmers’ practice (T1 with no seed treatment). Among the yield components assessed, the mean number of effective tillers per plant (239) and the number of grains per panicle (124) in T2 were also higher in comparison to T1 as 226 and 109, respectively. Thus, these traits were considered to be the most important factors responsible for yield gap. Along with this, no zinc deficiency symptoms were observed in treated seed demonstration plots this may be due to enhanced availability of zinc. In economic point of view, the B: C ratio of T2 was (1: 2.75) higher compared to the farmer’s practice (1:2.45).

PENGARUH KONSENTRASI GIBERELIN TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL BEBERAPA VARIETAS PADI SAWAH PADA CEKAMAN SALINITAS TINGGI

ABSTRACT This study aimed to: (1) study the effect of interactions between gibberellin concentration and several wetland rice varieties on conditions of high salinity stress on growth and yield, (2) gibberellin concentration and lowland rice varieties which have the best influence on growth and the results of lowland rice. The research was carried out at the screen house of the Faculty of Agriculture, Winaya Mukti Tanjungsari University - Sumedang Regency with altitude 850 m above sea level. The time of the study was carried out in December 2014 until April 2015. The study used a factorial Randomized Block Design method, which consisted of two factors: gibberellin concentration and several varieties of lowland rice in high salinity stress. The first factor is the concentration of gibberellin (G), consisting of four levels: g0 = soaking the seeds for 24 hours in giberelin 0 mgL -1 = soaking the seeds for 24 hours in gibberellins 20 mgL -1 , g2 = soaking the seeds during 24 hours in gibberellins 40 mgL -1 , g3 = soaking the seeds for 24 hours in giberelin 60 mgL -1 . The second factor is rice paddy variety (P), consisting of eight levels: p1 = Inpari 10, p2 = Inpari 20, p3 = Inpari 25, p4 = Inpari 26, p5 = Inpari 27, p6 = Inpari 30, p7 = Inpara 4, and p8 = Banyuasin. The results of the study indicate that here is an interaction effect between gibberellin concentrations and some lowland rice varieties in high salinity tresses against root drop ratio at ages 7, 35 and 49 HST. Rice varieties independently affect the age of harvest and the weight of 1000 seeds. There is a concentration of gibberellins and lowland rice varieties that produce the best growth and yield in high salinity stress.

Comparison of water use efficiency, profitability and consumer preferences of different rice varieties in Punjab, Pakistan

Due to rapid population growth, water scarcity and food insecurity have become the major problems for Pakistan. Therefore, the efficient utilization of limited resources such as water is very important in agriculture. Paddy or rice—Pakistan’s second most important cereal and staple crop—is a water-intensive crop. The present study aims to estimate the water use efficiency, profitability, and consumer preferences of different paddy varieties such as basmati, coarse and hybrid rice in Punjab. To this end, we collected field survey data from 330 rice growers in six districts of the rice–wheat zone of Punjab. The results showed that basmati rice is more profitable due to low production cost and higher prices. Although the number of irrigations applied to basmati rice and coarse rice was higher than that of hybrid rice, the amount of water applied to hybrid rice was the highest. Therefore, the total irrigation cost of hybrid rice is higher, while the coarse rice has higher water productivity. Furthermore, the economic productivity of water applied to basmati rice and coarse rice is higher than that of hybrid rice. Consumer preferences based on data from 150 consumers indicate that basmati rice is a favorite of consumers and that hybrid rice is the least popular. These results imply that it is better to grow basmati or coarse rice than hybrid rice due to water shortages in Pakistan. Another approach is to replace these varieties with alternative crops such as corn and soybeans that require less water.

Spread and Acceptance of TPS 5 Paddy Variety in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu

The present research has been undertaken to study the spread and acceptance of TPS 5 Paddy Variety in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu. Ramapuram, Andarkulam and Manavalakurchi villages of Agastheeswaram and Kurenthenkode blocks of Kanyakumari district were purposively selected based on more area under TPS 5 rice cultivation. Sixty rice growers were selected from the villages based on random sampling method. The data were collected using pre-tested interview schedule and analyzed by using appropriate statistical tools. The results revealed that most of the respondents belonged to old age and had followed agriculture as a primary occupation. Most of the respondents had high level of extension participation. The analysis of extent of adoption indicated that seventy five per cent of the respondents adopted TPS 5 variety in Kannipoo season. More than eighty per cent of the respondents had adopted recommended seed rate, age of seedling and spacing. Non availability of quality seeds and machineries in time, high weed infestation and improper usage of pre-emergence herbicide, lack of knowledge on application of recommended fertilizer and pest management practices were the major constraints encountered by the respondents.
