For the preservation on the tissues and function of the patient body, the establishment of the suitable jaw registration and the denture use of long-term, the registration and the denture use of long-term, the overdenture is discovered new merits. The fundamental and clinical studies on this subject have been carried out much. Then, the studies on the masticatory forces and the electromyogram are not done at all except the works by K. Yamamoto and K. Shiiya. But, they do not make studies on the effect of the anchor teeth and the attachments on the masticatory function in the full overdenture wearers. Now, observing the effect of the bilateral mandibular canines and first premolars as the anchor teeth and the Bona ball anchorage 604 A as the attachments on the masticatory functions in full overdenture wearers, the author studies with the masticatory forces and the electromyogram at the same times. As the results of this studies, the author arrives at following conclusions:1. The masticatory forces are smallest on the ham. In foods, the largest masticatory forces are measured in 3 rd period and the smallest in 5 th. The antagonistic forces are smaller.2. According to the rhythm of masticatory forces and swallowing pattern, the duration (D) and the ratio of the duration to the term (D/T) are largest on the pickled radish. In foods, the largest rhythms are measured in 1st period and the smallest in 3 rd. Futher, the interval (I) and the term (T) are largest on the ham. In foods, the largest rhythms are measured in 5 th period and the smallest in 1st. The swallowing pattern is larger.3. As for the rhythm of electric discharge of masticatory muscles, the D, the T and the D/T are largest on ham, the I is largest on the pickled radish. In foods, the largest rhythms at the D and the D/T are in 1st period and smallest in 5 th. Though, the largest rhythms at the I and the T are in 5 th and smallest in 1st.4. The integrated amounts of masticatory forces are in 3 rd and the smallest in 5 th. The integrated amounts of antagonistic forces are larger.5. In terms of the integrated amount of muscular activity, the largest values are on the pickled radish. In foods, the largest values is in 3 rd and the smallest in 5 th. The swallowing is larger.6. The integrated amounts of muscular activity required per unit of the integrated amounts of the masticatory forces are largest on the pickled radish and peanut. In foods, it's values are larger in early period and smaller in medium.7. In numbers of masticatory stroke, the peanut are most.8. From these studies, it is given a saggestion that the full overdenture warers masticate more efficiently and harmoniously than the full overdenture wearbrs. It is clinically estimated that the increasing number of the anchor teeth and the form of attachment are the effective means for the improvement of masticatory function in full overdenture.
