A therapeutic approach to help children overcome learning difficulties.

A comparison between students experiencing learning difficulties and patients seeking therapy for their inability to cope with life is drawn, and their common situation conceptualized as "demoralization." A therapeutic approach designed to restore morale is outlined. This involves four essential features: (1) labeling to reduce anxiety; (2) employing attitudinal variables of genuineness, unconditional acceptance, and empathy; (3) generating student expectancy of success; and (4) using a technique that both teacher and student believe will lead to success.
