Satisfaction Level of SSY Account Holders

SSA the small saving scheme has proved to be a relief to an extend for the parent’s/ guardians of the girl child. The policy of "Beti bachao, beti Padhao," which aims to strengthen the nation by eliminating prejudice against girl children and shattering outdated beliefs about the birth of a girl child in the family, has drawn increased attention since the SSA was introduced. This scheme is guaranteed to draw in more savers with its consistent and higher return rate. This program contributes to the nation's economic growth by elevating the status of girls and increasing their access to education. As a result, the Indian government must continue to take such actions to improve the lot of the underprivileged and marginalized groups in society as well as others like the jobless. They must take the required actions to live up to the public's expectations for these kinds of programs. The unit comprised parents of the girl child of Chavakkad thaluk of Thrissur district. The sample size taken for the survey was 40 SSY account holders. The sampling technique used in this research is Snowball Sampling. Snowball sampling is a non- probability sampling techniques which is used in reaching the samples that are difficult to find. The objective of the study has been accomplished with the help of primary data collected from 40 respondents. A Google Form was used to send the questionnaire and gather responses. Evaluation of educational activity in a district reference unit: perception of pregnant women

Introduction: Health education during prenatal care is crucial for the knowledge and empowerment of families, but studies show gaps in this service. Courses and groups for pregnant women have been useful in disseminating information about childbirth practices. Objective: To identify the perception of pregnant women about the Pregnancy and Companion Courses offered by Obstetric Nursing residents in a District Reference Unit (URD) ​​in the Federal District. Methodology: Exploratory descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Results: Of the eleven interviewees, the majority are between 30 and 40 years old and married. Most of them are not linked to the study's URD and receive assistance from private health services. They are all first-time mothers and this is the first Pregnancy Course they have attended. The most highlighted information in the course were the phases of labor and the changes in the parturient woman's body during this process. Final considerations: Obstetric Nursing residents train pregnant women and companions, promoting the humanization of childbirth and transforming the families' experience. This helps to demystify outdated beliefs and prepare them for eventualities.

A Gender and Disability Perspective on the Media's Contribution to Gender-Based Violence in India

A considerable amount of derogatory communication directed towards women has been transmitted through social networking sites in the form of online abuse, which has increased significantly in recent years. Social media is significant in the current technological era. Social media is both promoting gender-based violence, which primarily targets women and girls with disabilities and empowering women by dispelling outdated beliefs and stereotypes. Social media gender-based violence encompasses a range of activities such as uninvited sexual remarks, postings, threats, cyberstalking, tracking, hacking, and stalking. This is due to illiteracy and immature thought processes. Social media has made it possible to spread horrific stories about violent incidents involving women across the nation. In India, gender-based violence is still a major issue. The research holds significance for society as social media plays a major role in the violence against women with disabilities. The current study looks into the effects of gender-based violence on disabled women and how it is promoted on social media. Secondary sources such as newspapers, journals, magazines, texts, the internet, etc. are the basis of the study, and descriptive research formats are used for the analysis. The anticipated outcome would support the various ways that gender-based violence is promoted on social media, which causes socioeconomic hardship for women.

Contrasting Learning and Unlearning in Project Environments

This study utilized a project assignment task within a master’s course in project management to investigate the dynamics of learning, unlearning, and adaptation in project-based environments. The assignment aimed to enhance students’ understanding of effective project management, raise awareness of associated challenges, and develop crucial soft skills. The students were to plan, develop, and deliver a diverse range of products, emphasizing user value. From 34 groups, five were selected to provide representative reflections on their experiences. This study finds that in project-based tasks, learning is specific to product requirements, while unlearning is broader, impacting mainly beliefs and practices. Unlearning occurs in two forms: permanent and temporary. Permanent unlearning involves discarding outdated beliefs to facilitate deeper learning, aligning with project management literature. Temporary unlearning, however, is about setting aside current practices that don’t fit the project but may be useful elsewhere. The findings underscore the importance of continuous reflection in identifying areas where unlearning might be necessary.

Women's Motivation for Joining the Maoist Movement in Nepal: A Study of Ex-PLA Participants in Janaki Rural Municipality, Kailali

This research aims to investigate the motivations of women for joining the Maoist movement and strives to challenge outdated beliefs about women's issues. It delves into their socio-cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, as well as their pursuit of gender equality, leadership, and self-worth while working alongside men on equal terms. The study focuses on 15 Ex-PLA women in Janaki Rural Municipality, employing a purposive sampling method and an anthropological approach involving interviews and observations. The research unravels the challenges in analyzing female participants' experiences and opinions, considering the sensitivity and confidentiality of the subject matter and the cautious approach to human rights and privacy. The discussion reveals the deeply entrenched patriarchal system in Nepal, which has historically relegated women to a subordinate position and deprived them of power and knowledge creation. Despite legislative measures granting women citizenship and some representation, informal barriers and societal attitudes continue to impede their progress. The study highlights various factors motivating women to join the Maoist movement in Janaki Rural Municipality, including the historical patriarchal nature of Nepal, limited property rights for women, extended male absences, the dual burden of coordinating with both Maoist and security forces, and the impact of the Kilosera-2 operation's brutality and upheaval. Ultimately, this research sheds light on the transformative potential of women when given opportunities and challenges the prevailing societal norms, offering insights into the factors driving their participation in the Maoist movement and advocating for their rights and recognition on equal footing with men.

LEARNED VIOLENCE: BANDURA’S SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY IN EDWARD BOND'S THE CHILDREN

This study focuses on Bandura's social learning theory by examining the theme of learned violence in Edward Bond's The Children. Albert Bandura, a significant Canadian-born American psychologist, studied behaviourist questions about individuals and developed what is now known as social learning theory. In response to the outdated belief that violent behaviour is the result of innate aggressive tendencies, he introduced the theory which is concerned with the interaction of the learner's mind and its surroundings. Bandura's theory posits that people learn new behaviour, attitudes, and emotional responses by observing, modelling, and imitating the actions of others in their social environment. Edward Bond, on the other hand, has been one of the most controversial and prolific writers in contemporary British theatre. His twelve-scene short play The Children, which premiered in 2000, is considered as one of his later works. By using young characters in his work, the playwright reflects on the effects of social environment on teenagers. The play is about Joe, a teenager who lives with his abusive mother. When compared to his mother, Joe becomes more violent over time because he burns down a building in which a child dies. Thus, Bond's play demonstrates how violence is learned in parallel with Bandura's theory.

Older adults can use technology: why healthcare professionals must overcome ageism in digital health.

Older adults rapidly adopted technology for healthcare, known as digital health, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Older adults are increasingly using telehealth, smartphone apps, and other digital health technologies to reduce barriers to care, maintain patient-provider communication, and promote disease self-management. Yet, many healthcare professionals have maintained outdated beliefs rooted in societal ageism that digital health and older adults are incompatible. As a result, older adults have been disproportionally excluded from health services and clinical trials that use digital health relative to their younger counterparts. In this commentary, we urge all healthcare disciplines to challenge ageist beliefs and practices that have contributed to the “digital health divide” among older patients. We provide examples of evidence-based strategies and current scientific initiatives that can promote digital health inclusion in research, clinical practice, and training. By achieving digital health inclusion, we can increase access, provide preventative and comprehensive care, and decrease healthcare costs for older patients.

Cartooning and sexism in the time of Covid-19: Metaphors and metonymies in the Arab mind.

Using a large-scale corpus of 706 coronavirus cartoons by male and female Arab artists, this study takes a fresh and more cognitive look at sexism in multimodal discourse. Specifically, it examines the role of salience and grammar (and hence of metaphor and metonymy) in gender bias and/or in discrimination against women. It argues that both men and women are vulnerable to the influence of stereotypical and outdated beliefs that create unconscious bias. But this raises the crucial issue of whether we can speak of 'overt' sexism in images. Issues around terminology and conceptualization are thus also investigated. Importantly, this paper makes the following contributions to feminist and cross-cultural pragmatics: (i) it brings a distinctly Arabic perspective to gender and language; (ii) it expands socio-cognitive pragmatics beyond spoken and written communication; (iii) it shows a close coupling between an Arabic grammar and other aspects of culture; and (iv) it has the potential for impact beyond academia, specifically in the sphere of coronavirus care or of health communication.

When neurologists diagnose functional neurological disorder, why don't they code for it?

AbstractBackgroundClinicians who recognize functional neurological disorders (FND) may not share that diagnosis with patients. Poor communication delays treatment and contributes to substantial disability in FND. Diagnostic (ICD-10) coding, one form of medical communication, offers an insight into clinicians’ face-to-face communication. Therefore, quantifying the phenomenon of noncoding, and identifying beliefs and practice habits that reduce coding, may suggest routes to improve medical communication in FND.MethodsWe reviewed all pediatric neurology consultations in our hospital from 2017 to 2020, selecting those in which neurologists explicitly stated an FND-related diagnosis (N = 57). We identified the neurological symptoms and ICD-10 codes assigned for each consultation. In parallel, we reviewed all encounters that utilized FND-related codes to determine whether insurers paid for this care. Finally, we assessed beliefs and practices that influence FND-related coding through a nationwide survey of pediatric neurologists (N = 460).ResultsAfter diagnosing FND, neurologists selected FND-related ICD-10 codes in only 22.8% of consultations. 96.2% of neurologists estimated that they would code for non-epileptic seizure when substantiated by electroencephalography; in practice, they coded for 36.7% of such consultations. For other FND manifestations, neurologists coded in only 13.3% of cases. When presented with FND and non-FND scenarios with equal levels of information, neurologists coded for FND 41% less often. The strongest predictor of noncoding was the outdated belief that FND is a diagnosis of exclusion. Coding for FND never resulted in insurance nonpayment.ConclusionNoncoding for FND is common. Most factors that amplify noncoding also hinder face-to-face communication. Research based on ICD-10 coding (eg, prevalence and cost) may underestimate the impact of FND by &gt;fourfold.

The Relationship Between Unlearning and Innovation Ambidexterity with the Performance of New Product Development Teams

Previous research has suggested that unlearning is not linked to performance improvements in a team setting. Further, unlearning may have deleterious effects on performance outcomes because when it happens, teams are likely to lose the way they perform tasks and the reasons for their operational existence. In contrast, this study predicts that teams can conduct exploitative and exploratory activities in a balanced manner predicated on unlearning practices to improve new product development (NPD) performance. We hypothesized that while unlearning allows NPD teams to balance exploitative and exploratory learning activities, simultaneous yet balanced exploitation and exploration at high levels, namely innovation ambidexterity, links unlearning practices to NPD performance. This occurs by providing task-relevant knowledge for the replacement of outdated routines and beliefs during NPD processes. Data were collected from 198 NPD teams (i.e., 464 individual participants). The examination of ordinary least squares regression-based path analyses revealed that innovation ambidexterity mediates the relationship of unlearning with NPD performance, operationalized as product development speed, cost, and product success. Overall, this study shows that the unlearning-performance relationship occurs through simultaneous exploitative and exploratory learning activities in a balanced manner.

Communication, Context, and Narrative

Although often cast by realists as an exemplar of moralist or rationalist thinking, Jürgen Habermas and certain commentators on his work reject this characterisation, highlighting elements of his thought that conflict with it. This article will examine dimensions of Habermas’s work that relate to many realist concerns in political theory. I argue that while he escapes the commonplace caricature of an abstract thinker who is inattentive to real world affairs, Habermas’s claims in relation to communication, historical and empirical context, and the development of rights in history, reveal a narrow consideration of what defines context and a progressivist narrative of history that fails to address seemingly outdated beliefs and political forces. An analysis of these issues can serve to inform understandings of these topics in realist thought and in political theory more broadly.

The impact of manual handling training on beliefs regarding low back pain

Purpose Despite widespread use, the impact of manual handling (MH) training on low back pain (LBP) beliefs is unclear, with some data suggesting MH instructors hold outdated beliefs about LBP. This study aimed to examine the effect of MH training on a range of LBP beliefs. Materials and methods Ethics committee approval (University of Limerick) was obtained prior to the study. A pre-post design study of healthcare workers prior to, and after, MH training. 129 participants completed questionnaires regarding their demographics, their LBP history, as well as a range of LBP beliefs using the Back Beliefs Questionnaire (BBQ), the modified Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) and the modified Photograph Series of Daily Activities (mPHODA) scale. Results BBQ (mean difference = 3.12 (95% CI: 1.72, 4.52), p < .001) and TSK (mean difference = −1.43 (95% CI: −2.38, −0.49), p = .004) scores were more positive after MH training. In contrast, common daily activities on the mPHODA were considered significantly more harmful after MH training (mean difference = 6.95 (95% CI: 4.62, 9.28), p < .001). Conclusions A single day of MH training can change LBP beliefs, with improvements exhibited in the BBQ and TSK, whereas scores on the mPHODA were worse after training. While the changes are small, these results confirm that the TSK and BBQ have similarities, and differ from the mPHODA. The content and delivery of MH training courses may need to better align participant learning with evidence regarding the safety of gradual exposure to spinal loading.

Teaching an old pET new tricks: tuning of inclusion body formation and properties by a mixed feed system in E. coli

Against the outdated belief that inclusion bodies (IBs) in Escherichia coli are only inactive aggregates of misfolded protein, and thus should be avoided during recombinant protein production, numerous biopharmaceutically important proteins are currently produced as IBs. To obtain correctly folded, soluble product, IBs have to be processed, namely, harvested, solubilized, and refolded. Several years ago, it was discovered that, depending on cultivation conditions and protein properties, IBs contain partially correctly folded protein structures, which makes IB processing more efficient. Here, we present a method of tailored induction of recombinant protein production in E. coli by a mixed feed system using glucose and lactose and its impact on IB formation. Our method allows tuning of IB amount, IB size, size distribution, and purity, which does not only facilitate IB processing, but is also crucial for potential direct applications of IBs as nanomaterials and biomaterials in regenerative medicine.

Surgery for diverticulitis in the 21st century: recent evidence.

Sigmoid diverticulitis is an increasingly common disease in Western countries. As technology has led to increased knowledge about the disease and options for treatment, management strategies have become less certain. In previous years, the rationale for early elective surgery was largely preventive, due to concern that diverticulitis recurrence would result in increased risk of sepsis or the need for a colostomy. New technology has enabled diagnosis, through computed tomography scans, predictive information through clinical and administrative databases, and less invasive treatment options, through laparoscopic techniques. While the new data have mitigated outdated beliefs regarding recurrence prevention strategies, there is little to replace previous guidelines for care. For example, we lack clear guidelines for whether and when to use percutaneous drainage, intra-peritoneal lavage, minimally invasive techniques, and fecal diversion via ostomy. Fortunately, several newly published high impact studies attempt to address these more nuanced questions. In this paper, we review available findings and potential for use of the data from recent surgical randomized controlled trials. It is important to note that controlling sepsis when present remains the most important goal of treatment.

Scientific evidence versus outdated beliefs: A response to Brewin (2016).

We find Brewin's (2016) critiques of the narratives, power, and coherence measures in Rubin et al. (2016) without merit; his suggestions for a "revised formulation" (p. 1015) of coherence are contradicted by data readily available in the target article but ignored. We place Brewin's commentary in a historical context and show that it reiterates views of trauma memory fragmentation that are unsupported by data. We evaluate an earlier review of fragmentation of trauma memories (Brewin, 2014), which Brewin uses to support his position in the commentary. We show that it is contradicted by more comprehensive reviews and fails to include several studies that met Brewin's inclusion criteria but provided no support for his position, including 3 studies by the present authors (Rubin, 2011; Rubin, Boals, & Berntsen, 2008; Rubin, Dennis, & Beckham, 2011). In short, the commentary's position does not stand against scientific evidence; attempts to rescue it through arguments unsupported by data advance neither science nor clinical practice. Worker, workplace or families: What influences family focused practices in adult mental health?

Introduction Family focused practice is thought to lead to positive outcomes for all family members. However, there are multiple barriers and enablers in adult mental health services to practitioners undertaking these actions. Aim The aim of this study was to examine the relative importance of worker, workforce and family factors to predict family focused practices (FFPs) in adult mental health services. Method Three hundred and seven adult mental health workers completed a 45 items family focused practice measure of 16 family focused practices. Thesis It was found that worker skill and knowledge about family work and an ability to assess the degree of parental insight into the child's connections to other family members and the community were important predictors of FFP, along with the closely related-worker confidence. While aspects of the worker, workplace and family each contribute to FFPs, this study highlighted the importance of worker skill, knowledge and confidence as central issues for adult mental health workers. Implications for practice Study implications include the need for training in specific FFPs, the provision of time to engage with clients on parenting issues and the need 5 to ensure that there are adequate services for workers to refer family members to.

Managing elephants in Sri Lanka: where we are and where we need to be

Asian elephants are ‘endangered’ but come into significant conflict with humans. Sri Lanka holds an important position in relation to Asian elephants, both in terms of species conservation and human-elephant conflict mitigation. Historical aspects of the two main conservation agencies and lack of coordination between them has prevented a landscape level holistic approach to conservation in general and elephants in particular. The primary objective of elephant management is human-elephant conflict mitigation and secondarily elephant conservation. Many human-elephant conflict mitigation activities are ineffective and in some cases cause its escalation and wider spread. Others are extremely detrimental to elephant conservation. Effective human-elephant conflict mitigation and elephant conservation requires a paradigm change. Elephant management needs to be based on science and evidence rather than outdated beliefs and false assumptions. Unless immediate and effective remedial measures are taken, human-elephant conflict will continue to escalate and the elephant population continue to decline. Ceylon Journal of Science (Bio. Abuse in the church? A social constructionist challenge to pastoral ministry

The article focuses on abusive practices in the faith community. It indicates that abusive behaviour is more often than not unintentional and is ostensibly driven by a zeal for God and the church. The article explores this anomaly by examining the phenomenon of abuse in the faith community from a social constructionist, psychological, sociological and theological perspective. Pastoral ministry is challenged to foster self-reflexivity and awareness, as well as to revisit current (outdated) beliefs and practices, to test their suitability for the postmodern context in which the church is to tell and live her story.
