Osteoarthritis commonly affects the hips and knees, causing joint pain, stiffness and reduced range of motion, which results in fatigue, depressed mood and functional limitations, including difficulty walking. Manual therapy as a special physiotherapeutic technique is also recommended in knee OA. The general objective of the study was to investigate the effects of manual therapy on improving the symptoms of people with knee and hip osteoarthritis. As for the methodology, it was an Integrative Literature Review with a search from 2019 to 2024 in the PEDRO, SCIELO, LILACS and MEDLINE databases. 53 studies were found in the aforementioned databases, however, after the selection only 5 articles were included, the results of the analyzed studies indicated that different intervention techniques have been used, such as mobilization with movement, Mulligan techniques, Thermal Therapy Focal and Maitland Mobilization, to reduce pain and improve the physical function of those affected. These studies have important clinical implications, suggesting that physical therapists and other healthcare professionals should consider incorporating these techniques into their treatment protocols for knee osteoarthritis.
