Wrought gold alloys for the orthodontist are now available in uniformly high quality. Marked improvement in physical or chemical properties of these alloys is not anticipated in the near future. Decided improvements in the uniformity and service of most appliances can be secured by a proper heat treatment, Structurally and mechanically the base metal alloys offered as substitutes for the gold alloys have not established their superiority and may carry a health hazard. Zinc phosphate cements are at this date undergoing decided improvements in quality. Adequate instructions for mixing these cements are being supplied. After July 1, 1935, much of the chaos in the selection and manipulation of these cements will disappear. By purchasing materials guaranteed to meet the specifications adopted by the American Dental Association the orthodontist will secure the best materials available. By using these materials according to manufacturers' instructions the orthodontist will supply the best service to his patients.
