One of the most serious problems of our times is the protection of the environment. Within this framework, a significant contribution is made by environmental organisations in raising awareness among the public in order to resolve a great number of environmental concerns. The most important tool for the achievement of this goal is the implementation of public relations programmes through a public relations officer, as fragmented actions carried out by any other member of the organisation are considered ineffective. Consequently, the basic question in this case, lies in identifying the characteristics of the organisations that do actually operate in an effective manner. Data concerning environmental organisations was gathered through a structured questionnaire and processed using the non-linear principal components analysis technique from the statistical program SPSS. The main result of this research was that those environmental organisations that do have a public relations officer are usually those with the greatest amount of members.
