ANALISIS KANDUNGAN UNSUR HARA PUPUK ORGANIK CAIR DARI KOTORAN SAPI DAN DAUN Pueraria javanica

Cow dung and leaves of Pueraria javanica are organic wastes that highly available and content nutrients. Generally, there is a lot of Pueraria javanica’s leaf waste in oil palm plantations that will have mature period. Both of these wastes could be used as liquid organic fertilizer that has advantage of being easier to apply and could be watered at the same time. It will also more profitable when the application doing in the dry season. The purpose of this study are to obtain alternative organic waste and determine the nutrient content of the best liquid organic fertilizer. This research conducted at PT Rea Kaltim, East Kalimantan, from May to September 2022. This research used a descriptive method consisting of observation, literature study and interviews. Liquid organic fertilizer treatment consisted of 4 mixtures, there are P0 (1 kg of cow dung + 0 kg of Pueraria javanica), P1 (1 kg + 0,25), P2 (1 kg + 0,5 kg), P3 (1 kg + 0,75 kg), and P4 (1 kg + 1 kg). The result of research showed that cow dung and Pueraria javanica could be used as alternative organic materials for the manufacture of liquid organic fertilizer. Based on the results of analysis, the best nutrient content in liquid organic fertilizer was found in the treatment of 1 kg of cow manure and 1 kg of Pueraria javanica with 0,21% nitrogen, 0,12% phosphorus and 0,20% potassium.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) response with the Application of Manure and Liquid Organic Fertilizer

Organic fertilizers are necessary for environmentally friendly agriculture. The study aimed to determine rice response to manure and liquid organic fertilizer application ratio. The study was conducted by experimental method with a Complete Randomized Design with five replications. The treatment consists of 6 treatments, namely organic fertilizer, 25% goat manure + 75% commercial liquid organic fertilizer, 50% goat manure + 50% commercial liquid organic fertilizer, 75% goat manure organic + 25% commercial liquid organic fertilizer, 100% goat manure, and 100% manure goats + 100% commercial liquid organic fertilizer. The results showed that plant height during the middle of the vegetative phase treatment of 25% goat manure + 75% commercial liquid organic fertilizer was higher than the treatment of 50% solid organic fertilizer goat manure + 50% commercial liquid organic fertilizer and 100% treatment of goat manure solid organic fertilizer. The root length and volume of treatment 25% goat manure + 75% commercial liquid organic fertilizer is longer and higher than the combined treatment of manure and other liquid organic fertilizers. The grain weight per clump of mixed manure and liquid organic fertilizer treatment is no different. In the future, treatment of 25% goat manure + 75% commercial liquid organic fertilizer can be applied to increase the rice roots.

Response of Liquid Organic Fertilizer Application from Sword Fern Weeds and Goat Manure on Growth and Production of Green Beans ( Vigna radiata L )

The aim of the study was to determine the response of the application of liquid organic fertilizer for weeds of sword ferns and goat manure to the growth and production of green beans (Vigna radiata L). The research method used a factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK) consisting of 2 factors with 16 treatment combinations and 2 replications. The fist factor is treatment of Liquid Organic Fertilizer for sword ferns (M) consisting of 4 levels, namely M0 = 0 cc/L water/plot, M1 = 100 cc/L water/plot M2 = 200 cc/L water / plot, and M3 = 300 cc/ L of water/ plot. The second factor is goat manure ferilizer (S) consisting of 4 levels, namely S0 = 0 kg/plot, S1 = 2 kg/plot, S2 = 4 kg/plot, and S3 = 6 kg/plot. Parameters observed were plant height, number of productive branches, flowering age, plot production, weight of 100 seeds and age of harvest. The results of the study of Liquid Organic Fertilizer treatment of sword fern weeds had an effect on the parameters of plant height, number of productive branches, production per plot, and weight of 100 seeds, but did not affect the parameters of flowering age. The treatment of goat manure had an effect on plant height, number of productive branches, production per plot and weight of 100 seeds, but did not affect the parameters of flowering age. Global warming stimulates soil salinization and calcification, resulting in phosphorus (P) deficiency in arid and semiarid regions worldwide. Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) can enhance phosphorus availability, but their role has been less explored under arid and semiarid climatic conditions. A two-year consecutive field experiment was conducted to assess the effectiveness of PSB loading onto seeds, organic, and mineral fertilizers. The trial followed a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications for each treatment. There were five treatments: T1 was the uninoculated control with no fertilizer (Control), T2 was uninoculated with recommended NPK (NPK), T3 was PSB-inoculated wheat seeds (PSB-Seed), T4 was PSB-inoculated organic fertilizer (PSB-OF), and T5 was PSB-inoculated mineral fertilizer (PSB-MF). Results revealed that inoculation with PSB onto seeds, organic, or mineral fertilizer had a more pronounced impact not only on the vegetative development and yield of wheat but also on P contents in grains. It was observed that the PSB-inoculated mineral fertilizer treatment responded well, showing noticeable wheat biomass accumulation, grain yield, and improved P uptake in grain and straw. Interestingly, the highest uptake of nitrogen (N) in wheat grain was observed with both PSB-inoculated organic fertilizer treatment and PSB-inoculated mineral fertilizer treatment, highlighting the efficacy of slow-release nitrogen from organic fertilizer in addition to the impact of PSB. In conclusion, PSB inoculation on organic or mineral fertilizer has substantial potential in enhancing crop productivity and combating P deficiency in arid and semi-arid regions.

Migration from inorganic to organic fertilization for a more sustainable oil palm agro-industry

The rapid growth in oil palm production has raised environmental concerns due to the massive discharge of liquid and solid waste. To address this issue, waste generated need to be optimized by composting and converting the waste into organic fertilizer. The practice of pure inorganic fertilization must also be discontinued due to the rising cost of imported fertilizers and their detrimental effect on the soil. Furthermore, several studies have established that recycling self-produced organic waste as fertilizer is an excellent method to achieve sustainability. Therefore, this study investigates a significant response to organic fertilization treatment. The bioorganic empty fruit bunch (EFB) compost was tested on Podzols soil (Typic Placorthods) in the nursery and in the young mature stage of the palm that was treated from the beginning of planting. The results showed that organic fertilization using low and high concentrations of fresh and composted EFB had a more significant effect on seedling growth. A high dose of composted EFB positively affected the N and K content of the leaf. Composted EFB had added value, especially in improving soil chemical properties and assimilation of N nutrients by oil palm seedlings, especially Podzols (Typic Placorthods). Pure inorganic fertilization on Podzols (Typic Placorthods) could not have been more practical due to inadequate nutrient uptake. Composted EFB had a positive effect superior that of the fresh EFB on the chemical composition of the soil, such as improving the saturation rate of the cation exchange capacity and the exchangeable K and Mg. Fresh EFB was good, but composted EFB was better for maintaining yield and less attractivity to Oryctes, which is essential in replanting.

Long-term organic fertilization reshapes the communities of bacteria and fungi and enhances the activities of C- and P-cycling enzymes in calcareous alluvial soil

Soil microbial communities and extracellular enzymes are pivotal in governing the dynamics of soil carbon (C) and phosphorus (P) cycling. Nevertheless, comprehending the underlying regulatory factors and intricate interactions among these vital indicators remains an inadequately explored aspect, especially within the scenario of long-term fertilization. Long-term fertilization experiments were conducted on calcareous alluvial soil. The five fertilization regimes selected were as follows: without fertilization treatment (CK); inorganic NK fertilization treatment (NK); inorganic NPK fertilization treatment (NPK); organic fertilization treatment (M); and combined inorganic NPK with organic fertilization treatment (NPKM). The soil physicochemical properties, β-glucosidase (BG), and alkaline phosphomonoesterase (ALP) activities were determined, together with microbial (bacterial and fungal) community DNA sequences and subsequent bioinformatics analysis after 38 years of different fertilization. The results showed that the content of soil organic carbon (SOC) and available P and the activities of BG and ALP were the highest after M and NPKM treatments, which were 79–104 %, 26–36 times, 161–171 %, and 75–91 % higher than CK, respectively. Hierarchical clustering analysis showed that the bacterial and fungal community structures in M and NPKM treatments were similar, but the community structures in non-organic fertilization treatments (CK, NK, and NPK) were significantly different from those in organic fertilization treatments. The indicator species and correlation analysis combined revealed that most indicator species in organic fertilizer treatments were significantly positively correlated with soil BG and ALP, while most indicator species in non-organic fertilizer (CK and NK) treatments were significantly negatively correlated with soil BG and ALP. Organic fertilization treatments favored the growth of the bacterial genus Lysobacter and the fungal genera Acremonium and Mortierella and were significantly positively correlated with BG and ALP activities. Redundancy analysis revealed that SOC is the most important factor in shaping microbial community structure. Co-occurrence network analysis showed organic fertilization had higher network complexity, more keystone taxa, and more associations among microbial taxa compared with non-organic fertilization (CK + NK). Structural equation models revealed that microbial community structure is the direct driving factor of BG and ALP activities and their interactions, and SOC modulated the relationship between microbial community structure and BG and ALP activities. This study highlights how the application of organic fertilizer enhanced the C- and P-cycling enzyme activities, reshaped the soil microbial communities, and regulated these crucial indicators and their interactions by SOC.

Combined organic and inorganic fertilization increases soil network complexity and multifunctionality in a 5‐year fertilization system

AbstractMicrobial communities regulating multiple ecosystem functions in agricultural ecosystems remain unclear, limiting our ability to predict how agricultural systems will respond to nutrient management. Here, we assessed the effects of 5‐year different fertilization treatments (CK, no‐fertilization; M, organic fertilization; MNPK, combined inorganic and organic fertilization; NPK, inorganic fertilization) on the bacterial and fungal composition, co‐occurrence networks complexity and the relationship of keystone taxa with soil multifunctionality. Our results showed that fertilization shifted the bacterial and fungal community composition. The increased nodes of degree and decreased average path length with the application of organic fertilizer suggested a more stable network. The improved soil multifunctionality was also observed in combined organic and inorganic fertilization treatment, which positively correlated with the fungal community composition rather than bacterial, indicating that fungi are important in driving soil functions. Notably, the keystone taxa fOTU3995 and fOTU2868 belong to Sordariomycetes and were correlated with soil organic carbon, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and alkaline phosphatase. These indicated that the keystone taxa play an important role in increasing in soil nutrient, C cycling, and P cycling. Together, our findings highlight that combined organic and inorganic fertilization increases the network complexity and soil multifunctionality, further confirming the role of keystone taxa Sordariomycetes in driving soil multifunctionality. This suggested that combined organic and inorganic have the potential to preserve agroecosystem sustainability and strengthen the role of microorganisms in ecosystem functions.

Impact of Fertilizer Type and Vegetative Growth Duration on the Availability of Copper in Clay Loam Soil Planted of Maize (Zea mays L.) in Iraq

The present field trial aimed to study the effect of fertilizer type and growth duration on copper availability in the maize soil. In addition to the control, six different fertilizer treatments of mineral fertilizers, organic fertilizers, and humic acid (two levels each) were applied in the experiment. Soil samples were collected 70 and 100 days after planting. The results present that there were no significant differences between the half-recommendation fertilizer treatments (the first level) for all fertilizers, and the effect of the entire recommendation treatments (the second level) for poultry waste and humic acid 0.37 mg kg-1 and their superiority over the urea fertilization treatments 0.33 mg kg-1 in 70 days of cultivation. At 100 days, the fertilization treatments with poultry waste resulted in the highest concentration of available copper, 0.41 and 0.35 mg kg-1, respectively, the two levels. The results present a decrease in the concentration of available copper in the soil with an increase in the growth period.

Dampak Pupuk Organik Cair dan Kompos IPAL Karet Terhadap Pertumbuhan Bibit Kelapa Sawit (Elaeis Guineensis Jacq) di Main Nursery

Oil palm plants (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) are one of the important commodities in the plantation crop industry, capable of providing economic value as a source of foreign exchange income for the country. The increase in oil palm area is also accompanied by an increase in damaged plants (TR/TTM). So it is necessary to rejuvenate the plants to get quality seeds. The aim of this research was to determine the effect and best dose of Eco Farming liquid organic fertilizer treatment with rubber wastewater treatment plant sludge compost on the growth of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) seedlings in the main nursery. This research was carried out at the Teaching and Research Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Jambi University and lasted for 3 months, starting in September-November 2022. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments, namely: k0 = 40 mL.L-1 Eco fertilizer water Farming, k1 = 30 mL.L-1 Eco Farming fertilizer water + 100 g compost from waste sludge from WWTP, k2 = 20 mL.L-1 water from Eco Farming fertilizer + 200 g compost from waste sludge from WWTP, k3 = 10 mL.L-1 Eco Farming fertilizer water + 300 g of WWTP sludge waste compost, k4 = 400 g of WWTP sludge waste compost. The variables observed included seed height (cm), increase in tuber diameter (mm), increase in number of leaves (strands), shoot dry weight (g), root dry weight (g), ratio of root shoot and root volume (ml). The results of the research showed that the application of Eco Farming liquid organic fertilizer and waste compost from rubber wastewater treatment plant sludge was able to increase growth in the variables of seed height, root dry weight and root volume. However, it has not been able to increase the increase in tuber diameter, increase in number of leaves, shoot dry weight and root shoot ratio. Treatment of 10 mL.L-1 of Eco Farming fertilizer water + 300 g of IPAL waste sludge compost gave the best average growth of 6 month old oil palm seedlings in the main nursery.

Organic fertilizer and hydrothermal conditions change the distribution of Medicago sativa L. productivity and soil bacterial diversity in coastal saline soil

BackgroundAlfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a perennial leguminous forage that can improve the properties of saline soil. In addition, the supplementation with fertilizer to promote soil bacterial activity is critical to improve the productivity of coastal saline soils. However, the association between fertilizer application, bacterial community characteristics, and alfalfa yield in saline soil remains unclear.AimTo understand the interaction of different fertilizer and environmental factors on soil bacterial diversity and alfalfa yield in coastal saline soil.ResultsA 4-year field study was conducted to examine the interaction of different fertilizer treatments and environmental factors on soil bacterial diversity and alfalfa yield in coastal saline soil in China. Three organic fertilizer treatments (fulvic acid potassium, fulvic acid potassium + wood vinegar, and fulvic acid potassium + Bacillus), one biochar treatment (bio-charcoal), one inorganic fertilizer treatment (diammonium phosphate), and a control (no fertilizer) were included. The effects of the six treatments and 15 cutting times on alfalfa yield and soil bacterial community diversity were assessed. The productivity in fulvic acid potassium + Bacillus and fulvic acid potassium treatments was 68.37 and 67.90 t·hm−2 in 4 years, which was significantly higher than that in the bio-charcoal treatment and control. Hydrothermal conditions and timing of alfalfa harvest had significant effects on the soil bacterial community. Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, and Actinobacteria were the principal bacterial phyla detected in the soil samples, collectively accounting for approximately 60% of the total bacterial abundance. The relative abundance of Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, and Nitrospirae was significantly correlated with alfalfa yield, and the abundance of these phyla was also affected by the maximum temperature and precipitation. Fertilizer supplementation in coastal saline soil can effectively increase the yield of alfalfa. Among the fertilizers tested, fulvic acid potassium had the strongest effect, whereas bio-charcoal fertilizer had little effect on alfalfa yield.Graphical

Carryover Effect of Green Manure, FYM and N-Fertilization on the Succeeding Wheat in Rice-wheat Cropping System

The present study was carried out Punjab Agricultural University, Regional Research Station, Gurdaspur, Punjab (India) during 2020-21 and 2021-22. The experiment was laid out in split-split plot design with three factors. Main plots contain three organic fertilizers treatments, sub plot contains three nitrogen levels and sub-sub plots contain three nitrogen application stage. Plant height of succeeding wheat crop grown after basmati rice was affected non-significantly by organic fertilizers and chemical fertilizers applied to basmati rice during both the years. The number of tillers and dry matter accumulation significant affected during both the years. Greater values were obtained with FYM application @ 15 t ha-1 which was significantly similar to green manuring but significantly higher than control during both the years. The various nitrogen doses and nitrogen application stages failed to significantly influence number of tillers and dry matter accumulation of succeeding wheat crop. In case of number of effective tillers and grains per spike, the maximum values were obtained with FYM. It was at par with green manuring but significantly higher than. The nitrogen doses and nitrogen application stages had non-significant effect on both these parameters. The organic fertilizers had statistical significant effect on straw and grain yield of wheat crop. The highest straw and grain yields were obtained with application of FYM @ 15 t ha-1 which was significantly higher than control but statistically at par with green manuring during both the years. The harvest index was non-significant for all the treatments. The total NPK uptake in wheat was significantly affected by the organic fertilizers. Highest uptake of NPK in grain and straw was observed with FYM application which was at par with green manuring but significantly higher than control during both the years.

Influence of Biochar on Growth, Yield and Quality of Broccoli

Broccoli is one of the most important, nutrient-rich vegetables among cole crops which belong to the family Brassicaceae. It is known to be a healthy and delectable vegetable which is rich in many nutrients. Biochar is considered as a potential substitute for soil organic matter (SOM). Biochar addition to low organic carbon soils can act as a feasible solution to keep soil biologically active for the cycling of different nutrients. The application of biochar could improve soil fertility, increase crop yield, enhance plant growth and microbialabundance, and immobilize different contaminants in the soil. Due to thelarge surface area of biochar, which generally depends upon the types of feedstock and pyrolysis conditions, it helps to reduce the leaching of fertilizers from the soil and supplies additional nutrientsto growing crops. In view of the above importance all possible issues related to biochar application should beconsidered. Previous literature review shows that applying biochar to the broccoli plant improved only the leaf area and root length with significant changes. The highest yield per plot (4.49 kg), bud weight (499.37g), bud diameter (16.55 cm), and yield per hectare (14.98 t ha-1) of broccoli was found to be significant in biochar treated plot (T2: PSB 100 L/ha + Biochar 30 t ha-1). Considering classification of the flowering heads by categories, M (manure pellet) + EB (enriched-biochar amended soil and organic fertilizer) + AND (manure pellet and enriched-biochar amended soil treated with organic fertilization) treatments showed a higher number of first category flowering heads with regard to other treatments. Therefore, the use of biochar is an effective approach for potential nutrient reservoir for plants and a good amendment to improve soil properties.

Effect of concentration of banana corm liquid organic fertilizer and dosage of bokashi fertilizer on growth and yield of long bean (Vigna sinensis L.)

This research aims to determine the effect of the concentration of corm banana liquid organic fertilizer and doses of chicken manure bokashi on the growth and yield of long bean plants. The research was conducted in Sidera Village Sigi Biromaru District, Sigi Regency, from October to December 2021. The research used a Factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD). The first factor was the concentration of banana corm liquid organic fertilizer, which consisted of four levels, namely P0 = without liquid organic fertilizer, P1 = 100 ml per L, P2 = 200 ml per L, and P3 = 300 ml per L. The second factor was the dose of bokashi chicken manure, which consisted of 3 levels, K1 = 15 tons per ha, K2 = 20 tons per ha, and K3 = 25 tons per ha. The results showed an interaction between banana corm liquid organic fertilizer and chicken manure bokashi. The treatment of banana corm liquid organic fertilizer at a concentration of 300 ml per L, and bokashi chicken manure at a dose of 25 tons per ha significantly affected plant height, number of leaves and number of pods.

In Situ Toxicity Reduction and Food Safety Assessment of Pak Choi (Brassica campestris L.) in Cadmium-Contaminated Soil by Jointly Using Alkaline Passivators and Organic Fertilizer.

An economical and effective method is still lacking for cadmium (Cd) toxicity reduction and food product safety improvement in soil-vegetable systems. Therefore, this study aimed to reduce the Cd toxicity to pak choi (Brassica campestris L.) by jointly using passivators and organic fertilizer, highlighting food products' safety based on pot experiments. The results showed that compared with the control, organic fertilizer decreased the Cd content in edible parts and the soil's available Cd by 48.4% and 20.9% on average, respectively, due to the 0.15-unit increases in soil pH. Once jointly applied with passivators, the decrements increased by 52.3-72.6% and 32.5-52.6% for the Cd content in edible parts and for the soil's available Cd, respectively, while the pH increment increased by 0.15-0.46 units. Compared with the control, the transport factor of Cd was reduced by 61.9% and 50.9-55.0% when applying organic fertilizer alone and together with the passivators, respectively. The combination treatment of biochar and organic fertilizer performed the best in decreasing the Cd content in the edible parts and the soil's available Cd. The combination treatment of fish bone meal and organic fertilizer induced the greatest increases in soil pH. The grey relational analysis results showed that the combination treatment of biochar and organic fertilizer performed the best in reducing the potential Cd pollution risk, thereby highlighting the vegetable food safety. This study provides a potential economical and effective technology for toxicity reduction and food safety in Cd-polluted soil.

Intensifikasi Produksi dan Kualitas Benih Kacang Hijau (Vigna radiata L.) Melalui Aplikasi Pupuk Organik Cair dan Pengaturan Jarak Tanam

This research was conducted to determine the intensification of production and quality of green bean seeds (Vigna radiata L.) through the treatment of plant spacing and POMI liquid organic fertilizer. The mung bean seed variety used in this study was the Vima 1 variety. The research was carried out from August to November 2022 at the research area of ​​the Jember State Polytechnic. This study used a factorial randomized block design. The first factor was the spacing treatment consisting of three levels, namely J1 = 30 cm x 20 cm, J2 = 30 cm x 30 cm, and J3 = 30 cm x 40 cm. The second factor was the POMI liquid organic fertilizer treatment consisting of three levels, namely P1= 4 ml/l, P2= 8 ml/l, and P3= 12 ml/l. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and further tested using DMRT with an error level of 5%. The results showed that the J1 treatment (30 cm x 20 cm) had a highly significant different effect on the parameters of the number of pods per plant, namely 15.42, the production per hectare, which was 1.54 tons, and the weight of 100 seeds of 6.02 g. Treatment P2 (8 ml/l) had a highly significant different effect on the parameter number of pods per plant, namely 13.64. The P2 treatment (8 ml/l) had a significantly different effect on the production parameters per hectare, namely 1.02 tons. The P3 treatment (12 ml/l) had a significantly different effect on the parameter weight of 100 seeds, namely 6 g. The treatment of spacing and liquid organic fertilizer had no significant effect on germination parameters.

The impact of fertilization on ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and comammox Nitrospira communities and the subsequent effect on N2O emission and maize yield in a semi-arid region.

The control of nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions through nitrification and the optimization of maize yield are important in agricultural systems. However, within the semi-arid region, the impact of fertilization on the function of nitrification communities and its connection with N2O emissions in the rhizosphere soil is still unclear. Our study investigates the influence of fertilization treatments on the communities of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and the complete ammonia oxidizers of the Nitrospira known as comammox (CAOB) in a maize agroecosystem. Nitrous oxide production, potential nitrification activity (PNA), maize yield, and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) were determined for the same samples. The fertilizer treatments included a control group without fertilization (NA), inorganic fertilizer (CF), organic fertilizer (SM), combined inorganic and organic fertilizer (SC), and maize straw (MS). The SC treatment indicated a lower cumulative N2O emission than the CF treatment in the 2020 and 2021 cropping seasons. The AOB community under the CF, MS, and SM treatments was predominantly composed of Nitrosospira cluster 3b, while the SC treatment was associated with the comammox Nitrospira clade A.1 lineage, related to key species such as Ca. Nitrospira inopinata and Ca. Nitrospira nitrificans. Network analysis demonstrated a positive potential for competitive interaction between hub taxonomy and distinct keystone taxa among AOB and comammox Nitrospira nitrifiers. The structural equation model further revealed a significant positive association between AOB nitrifiers and N2O emission, PNA, soil pH, SOC, -N, and DON under organic fertilization. The keystone taxa in the comammox Nitrospira nitrifier and network Module II exhibited a positive correlation with maize productivity and NUE, likely due to their functional activities stimulated by the SC treatment. It is noteworthy that the AOB community played a more significant role in driving nitrification compared to the composition of comammox Nitrospira. Collectively, combined inorganic and organic fertilizer (SC) treatment exhibits high potential for reducing N2O emissions, enhancing maize productivity, increasing NUE, and increasing the sustainability of the nitrogen dynamics of maize agroecosystems in the semi-arid Loess Plateau.

Effects of biochar amendment and organic fertilizer on microbial communities in the rhizosphere soil of wheat in Yellow River Delta saline-alkaline soil.

The biochar and organic fertilizer amendment have been used as an effective practice to increase soil fertility. Nevertheless, the mechanisms of microbial community response to organic fertilizer and biochar application on saline-alkali soil have not been clarified. This study investigated the effects at different concentrations of organic fertilizer and biochar on the microbial community of wheat rhizosphere soil under field experiment in the Yellow River Delta (China, YRD), using high-throughput sequencing technology. Biochar and organic fertilizer significantly influenced in most soil parameters (p < 0.05), apart from soil moisture content (M), pH, total nitrogen (TN) and soil total phosphorus (TP). Proteobacteria and Actinobacteriota were found in the rhizosphere soil as the main bacterial phyla, and the main fungal phyla were Ascomycota and Mortierellomycota. The soil bacterial and fungal communities under organic fertilizer were distinct from CK. Furthermore, redundancy analysis (RDA) directed that changes in bacterial communities were related to soil properties like pH, available phosphorus (AP), and total organic carbon (TOC), while pH, AP and TP, were crucial contributors in regulating fungal distribution. The correlation between soil parameters and bacteria or fungi varied with the application of biochar and organic fertilizers, and the interaction between the bacteria and fungi in organic fertilizer treatments formed more connections compared with biochar treatments. Our results indicated that biochar was superior to organic fertilizer under the contents set up in this study, and soil parameters increased with biochar and organic fertilizer application rate. The diversity and structure of soil bacteria and fungi differed with the application of biochar and organic fertilizer. The research provides a reference to rational application of organic fertilizer and biochar improvement in saline-alkali soil.

Influence of Organic Manures and Organic Sprays on Productivity and Economics of Summer Greengram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of organic fertilizers and organic sprays on the productivity and economic parameters of summer greengram (Vigna radiata) cultivation. The experiment was designed as a split-plot design with three replications. The primary plots encompassed four organic fertilizer treatments: Control (M1), Farm yard manure (M2), Vermicompost (M3), and Poultry manure (M4). The sub-plots included three organic spray treatments: Control (S1), Panchagavya (S2), and Jeevamrutha (S3).&#x0D; The results of the experiment revealed that the combination of poultry manure as the organic fertilizer in conjunction with the application of Panchagavya spray had the most significant impact on both seed yield (779 kg ha-1) and haulm yield (1909 kg ha-1) for summer greengram cultivation. Furthermore, this specific combination demonstrated notably higher gross returns (₹48,648 ha-1), net returns (₹30,125 ha-1), and a favourable B C ratio of 2.60.

Linking microbial carbon‐degrading potential to organic carbon sequestration in fertilized soils: Insights from metagenomics

AbstractThe capacity of soils to store organic carbon (SOC) is vital for agricultural productivity. Soil microorganisms exert a critical role in carbon (C) flow and potentially influence C balance through the decomposition of plant and microbial dead biomass. However, the connection between the microbial degradation potential of plant‐derived and microbial‐derived C and soil organic carbon sequestration (SOCSR) under organic and inorganic nitrogen (N) fertilization treatments remains largely unexplored using metagenomics. In this study, metagenomics was used to investigate the effects of 4 years inorganic (N1: 250 kg N ha−1 yr−1 and N3: 450 kg N ha−1 yr−1) and organic N (O1: N1 + 11,250 kg ha−1 yr−1 sheep manure and O3: N1 + 18,750 kg ha−1 yr−1 sheep manure) fertilizer application on plant biomass decomposition genes, microbial biomass decomposition genes, and microbial properties related to different sources of C decomposition (species composition and diversity). Furthermore, the study explored the relationship between organic matter decomposition genes, microorganisms, and SOCSR. The results revealed that compared with N1 treatment, the increased application of inorganic N fertilizer (N3) significantly enhanced the abundance of genes related to plant and microbial biomass decomposition and microbial diversity involved in SOC decomposition, resulting in reduced SOC content. Conversely, the increased application of organic N fertilizer (O1 and O3) had a minor effect on the abundance of genes related to different sources of C decomposition and C decomposing microbial diversity, but reduced microbial entropy (the ratio of microbial biomass carbon to SOC) and increased SOC content. The random forest model highlighted that plant biomass decomposition genes and bacterial community composition were important factors affecting SOCSR. The Mantel test also indicated that the genes involved in the decomposition of lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose were closely related to SOCSR. These findings highlighted that increased inorganic N fertilizers greatly enhanced the microbial capacity for SOC decomposition, resulting in reduced SOC accumulation. While the increased application of organic N fertilizer increased SOC stability and reduced the mineralization potential of SOC, contributing to SOCSR. Overall, these findings provide a greater understanding of the relationship between soil C turnover and microbial C‐degrading potential under short‐term fertilization. And in a long time, they may have important implications for global strategies aimed at increasing SOCSR to restore fertility and facilitate sustainable agricultural development.
