Repeated epistaxis in this disease defied treatment until Koch et al.,1 in August, 1952, described suppression of recurrent epistaxis following the use of oral estrogens. In addition to the beneficial effect on the bleeding, these investigators noted that the atrophic nasal mucosa became pink, moist and soft.
