Oracle upgrade 12.2.x - Editioning and online patching

Oracle patching is a recurring periodic activity typically performed by the DBAs. In this activity, the patches released by Oracle are applied to the existing Oracle application or data base to fix the security vulnerabilities or to introduce new and advanced features. Prior to Oracle version 12.2.X, applying these patches would need the application and/ or database to be brought down, there by impacting application availability. With Oracle 12.2.X, Oracle introduced a new architecture and AD Online Patching (ADOP) and editioning concepts, where these patches can be applied without bringing down the application for the entire tenure, but for a brief cutover period. To enable online patching, the Oracle instance needs to be properly set-up and there are pre and post patching activities that need to be done to take full advantage of this ability. However, for all practical purposes, there are benefits and challenges in adopting the online patching strategy that the team needs to consider. Implementing a rapid application development course in higher education and measuring its impact using Kirkpatrick’s model: a case study at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University

Nowadays, technological development and improvement in business is happening rapidly, so higher education (HE), and not only, studies should constantly provide and develop new up-to-date knowledge and skills to students, in order to train competitive specialists, address digital transformation by developing digital readiness of higher institutions, and increase employment opportunities of students. Consequently, this paper discusses the implementation of the newly developed courses for teaching Rapid Application Development (RAD) on the Oracle Application Express platform into the studies at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) and presents the effectiveness of the implementation of this course measured using Kirkpatrick’s model. The obtained results show that students’ knowledge of RAD increased after attending the course. In addition, a 76% agreed that this course increased their knowledge of the subject matter.

Automating Item Activation Process to Overcome Challenges for Error-free Inventory Operations

This article highlights the need for the successful implementation of a custom engine within Oracle Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Preventive Controls Governor (PCG) to address challenges encountered during the item activation process in Inventory. The existing manual processes exhibited a high error incident rate, leading to various issues in Bill of Materials (BOM), Costing, and Financial Accounting due to incorrect inventory item attributes. A comprehensive approach was implemented to address these issues. The processes were streamlined and optimized by leveraging controllership principles and implementing multilevel workflow-based approvals. Additionally, user-friendly webpages were developed using the Oracle Application Framework (OAF) to enhance the overall user experience. The implementation of the custom engine within Oracle GRC PCG proved to be a transformative game-changer. It enabled effective control and governance over the item activation process, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Remarkably, the error incident rate was reduced to zero, resulting in significant improvements in productivity and operational efficiency. This article delves into the strategies employed, the achievements realized, and the profound impact on productivity, highlighting the successful integration of Oracle GRC PCG in optimizing critical business processes.

These systems must evolve to support increased decision velocity and cohesiveness in today’s increasingly distributed world. The unique features of a software product line organization challenge the conventional definition of project management. Among those features are different project types, each of which adds value in a different way. A Project Management Office System (PMOS) is designed to help project office personnel manage project and resource information. The system, built using Oracle Application Express (APEX) and hosted on Oracle Cloud, shall allow input of new project and new resource details, and manipulation of project/resource information. It will facilitate the allocation of resources to projects and the transfer of resources across projects. The system will also manage training requirements, training schedules, and training closure functions.

Oracles Integration in Blockchain-Based Platform for Smart Crop Production Data Exchange

Blockchain oracles are an intermediary designed to connect external non-deterministic information and real-world data to the blockchain digital infrastructure. The variety of proposed solutions and purposes are of great variety and suggest that it is necessary to take into account different features of the process and specifically define the required functionalities. The purpose of this paper is to present the integration of oracles into an EOSIO blockchain-based platform for smart crop production data exchange by smart contracts. The functions of two oracles are presented. Their integration is described at the design level and at the implementation of the smart contracts. The design level is illustrated by workflow diagrams of internal processes between oracle applications and the blockchain smart contract and by external processes in the oracles’ smart contracts. The implementation level is illustrated by oracle application configuration files and elements of C++ smart contracts, such as constant and variable declarations, multi-index tables, internal contract functions, and actions called by other contracts and external programs. As results of the oracles’ operation, a report on the detected emergency failures and an estimate of the cost of ram resource are presented.

Improving Process Efficiency in Iraqi universities: a proposed management information system

This research paper aims to investigate the current state of process efficiency in Iraqi universities and propose a management information system (MIS) to improve it. A literature review was conducted to identify the challenges faced by universities in Iraq, as well as the solutions proposed in the literature. The findings showed that the main challenges in Iraqi universities include a lack of automation, poor data management, and inadequate communication between departments. A comparison was also made between the challenges faced by Iraqi universities and those faced by universities worldwide. To address these challenges, a survey was conducted to gather data from university staff and students. The survey results were analyzed, and the findings were used to design a MIS based on Oracle Application Express (APEX). The proposed system includes a student records management system, a staff management system, and an automated workflow system to improve communication and collaboration between departments. The proposed system was also found to be in line with the regulations and policies of the Ministry of Higher Education in Iraq. The system architecture and database design were also discussed in detail. The results of this research indicate that implementing a MIS using Oracle APEX can significantly improve the process efficiency in Iraqi universities. This can lead to an increase in the quality of education and a reduction in the administrative burden on staff and students.

A pragmatic step to deploy low-code web apps on apex cloud services for emerging business assistance

Traditional approaches to web application development using the full-stack development model are inefficient. In today's rapidly changing business environment, organizations must rely on technology solutions that can be built and deployed in days or weeks, not months or years. Low-Code Development Platforms (LCDPs) compete with various features and technologies to provide business applications without prior knowledge of Internet technologies. Oracle Application Express (APEX) assists in the development of fantastic applications with little or no code in the Oracle database, as well as in the deployment of modern data-driven applications on the Oracle cloud platform, allowing users to quickly build secure business web applications with the best options., which can be accessed using an internet browser on desktop computers or mobile phones through its responsive web design without cost and time. Therefore, this paper demonstrates a pragmatic step toward deploying applications in a standalone database cloud using APEX services, which is focused on creating tables or converting spreadsheets into scalable, secure, and responsive web applications in minutes and providing automatic chart analysis reports for the business. As a result, individuals, Small- Scale Industries (SSIs), and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to use cloud services that are always free with a 20 GB storage limit, which is outstanding resilience for cloudless web applications designed for new trends and business support free of charge. Machine learning in APEX Services can also be used to make web apps better for business intelligence in the future.

Evaluating distributed IoT databases for edge/cloud platforms using the analytic hierarchy process

Decision-making is not a trivial process. It involves studying and analyzing different alternatives. In addition, it requires defining criteria for evaluating the alternatives. A problem arises when evaluating criteria that conflict or when dealing with qualitative criteria. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a multi-criteria decision tool that simplifies the decision-making process. It can evaluate both qualitative and quantitative criteria. Moreover, AHP justifies the final decision by providing the mathematical reasoning behind the judgment. The aim of this research is to evaluate available Internet of Things (IoT) databases in an edge/cloud platform by applying AHP and to suggest a suitable approach for developing a database application. In this study, four alternative database development tools are evaluated: DaDaBIK, DataFlex, Oracle Application Express, and FileMaker. We define our criteria, explain why they are selected, and assign each a weight based on its importance. We then evaluate the candidates using the weighted criteria. FileMaker is found to be the best choice because it offers the best usability, portability, and supportability for IoT scenarios.

Inspection process of medical devices in healthcare institutions: software solution

With increased sophistication of electrical medical devices and more dynamic working environment conditions, safety and accuracy requirements are becoming more strict. Healthcare institutions are challenged in keeping their electrical medical devices safe to use, accurate and reliable in terms of measuring and monitoring of vital parameters. In healthcare institutions maintaining overall operating functions at the required level of performance can be achieved through periodical safety performance inspections. International guidelines, such as Directives IEC 60601, ISO 62353 and MDD 93/42, define how healthcare institutions should perform these periodical checks. In countries, where those guidelines are not adopted, medical device safety and performance inspections are conducted in accordance to Directives of new approach. This paper presents the software solution for tracking the inspection process of medical devices in public and private healthcare institutions. The software is implemented in Oracle Application Development Framework Technology (ADF) and it is used to facilitate gathering of documents such as Inspection Certificates, Working Orders, Measurement Reports, Calculated Errors, and also to keep track of dates for next inspection. The software can be accessed online via Inspection Laboratory website, and all clients, as well as professional laboratory staff can login using their own username and password which makes all inspection data confidential. The software solution is validated in private and public healthcare institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH). Out of 331 public and private health care institutions in BH, software solution was validated in 218 institutions and more than 1800 inspection tests reports were imported in software by the date that this paper was written.

Because structured electronic medical records stored massive data, the performance, security and stability of database had been paid more and more attentions. In this paper, table with partition in structured electronic medical records system was presented to solve these problems. In addition, testing of comparing the performance of table with and without partition had been taken to prove it was much faster to retrieve partitioned tables with massive data than not partitioned tables.

FISH Oracle: a web server for flexible visualization of DNA copy number data in a genomic context

BackgroundThe rapidly growing amount of array CGH data requires improved visualization software supporting the process of identifying candidate cancer genes. Optimally, such software should work across multiple microarray platforms, should be able to cope with data from different sources and should be easy to operate.ResultsWe have developed a web-based software FISH Oracle to visualize data from multiple array CGH experiments in a genomic context. Its fast visualization engine and advanced web and database technology supports highly interactive use. FISH Oracle comes with a convenient data import mechanism, powerful search options for genomic elements (e.g. gene names or karyobands), quick navigation and zooming into interesting regions, and mechanisms to export the visualization into different high quality formats. These features make the software especially suitable for the needs of life scientists.ConclusionsFISH Oracle offers a fast and easy to use visualization tool for array CGH and SNP array data. It allows for the identification of genomic regions representing minimal common changes based on data from one or more experiments. FISH Oracle will be instrumental to identify candidate onco and tumor suppressor genes based on the frequency and genomic position of DNA copy number changes. Development and testing of multiple versions of a radiation oncology treatment planning workflow application in the era of HIPAA.

6151 Background: To develop and test a clinical workflow application that manages the radiation oncology treatment planning process for multiple physicians and planners in a multi-site academic oncology practice including notifications and user level data collection and reporting for process improvement. This functionality is not integrated into most oncology electronic medical record or treatment planning systems. Methods: Resident and attending physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, RTTs, and administration staff at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Radiation Oncology were interviewed to define the treatment planning workflow process and logic. Prototype applications were developed and tested on several platforms including MS Access hosted on a departmental server, MS Sharepoint web application, and an internally hosted version of Oracle Application Express (APEX) with Oracle 10g. All solutions were assessed for ease of use and for privacy and security liabilities. Results: The userbase defined the treatment planning process from scheduling a patient for simulation through all steps in treatment planning to quality assurance. Either one or two physicians completed testing of each functional prototype over a two-year period with over two hundred patient courses. The MS Access solution was rejected due to FDA requirements that third party software not be installed on treatment planning workstations unless previously approved. The MS Sharepoint website did not meet the institution's requirement for HIPAA disclosure auditing. Therefore, an existing LDAP authentication schema for electronic medical record access was incorporated into the Oracle Apex solution. Conclusions: FDA and HIPPA requirements limited software choice and increased the cost of the project. The web-based Oracle APEX solution meets the department's functional requirements for ease of use and meets the institution's requirements for privacy and security. The application improves communication between physicians and planners at multiple locations through online lists and automated email/pager notifications. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Applications of RFID technology for improving production efficiency in an integrated-circuit packaging house

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is an emerging technology that can expand the possibilities for data capture. The use of RFID technology for process control and material handling applications can produce benefits of flexibility and interactivity. An integrated-circuit (IC) packaging house must be able to provide clients with instant and accurate information on its products and services. For doing that, an IC packaging house must keep track of all its wafers, regardless of whether those wafers are in packaging, testing, or shipping. In this study, RFID technology is combined with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for resolving various wafer receiving and inventory transaction problems. An electronic control system is developed using Oracle application implementation methodology (AIM) to integrate RFID technology and the ERP system. This electronic control system has been implemented at a local IC packaging company. Results from this study suggest that RFID contributes significant improvements to the wafer receiving process and the inventory transaction process that reduce labour costs and man-made errors. Besides that, our control system greatly reduces operators’ workloads and operation costs.

An IC assembly house must keep track of all its wafers, regardless of whether those wafers are in assembly, testing, or shipping; the house must be able to provide clients with instant and accurate information on its products and services. Radio frequency identification (RFID) can collect and alter IC assembly house data electronically. In this study, RFID technology is combined with a RosettaNet network and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system; these elements are applied to resolve various wafer-receiving and inventory transaction problems. An electronic material flow control system is developed using Oracle application implementation methodology (AIM) to integrate RFID technology, the RosettaNet network, and the ERP system. This electronic material flow control system has been implemented at a local IC assembly company. Results from this study suggest that RFID contributes significant improvements to the wafer-receiving process and the inventory transaction process that reduce labor costs and man-made errors.
