IMPLEMENTASI DESIGN THINKING DALAM PERANCANGAN UI/UX APLIKASI JASA CATERING (JASCAT)

The catering business is an opportunity for entrepreneurs, especially for those with a cooking hobby. Currently, the catering business is highly competitive and rapidly growing with the technology era. The catering ordering process is still mostly through SMS or phone, and the lack of information and promotion makes the ordering and delivery process of food take a long time. This study aims to create a food ordering application online. This study applies Design Thinking to improve the user experience of the JASCAT application. The study uses the 5 stages of Design Thinking (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test) to address user problems. UI/UX design is understood based on needs and solving user problems. Tests show that the JASCAT application designed with Figma has a score of 93 in the "Best Acceptable" category. The results of the study conclude that the UI/UX design of the JASCAT application with Figma is successfully applied with Design Thinking and has a score of 93 on the SUS test

Enhancing Rural Livelihoods and Empowering Youth Through Agripreneurship: An Analysis of the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme in QwaQwa, Free State, South Africa

Agricultural production has long been a cornerstone of livelihoods in rural areas, providing essential resources and economic stability to communities worldwide. In recent years, there has been growing interest in the role of agriculture as a sustainable livelihood strategy for youth in these regions, especially in Africa, where the youth make up most of the population. This paper explores the impact of agricultural projects under the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) on improving the livelihoods of rural communities and empowering youth in Qwaqwa (Phuthaditjhaba), Free State. It investigates the programme’s impact on youth skills development, access to resources, and entrepreneurial opportunities, as well as identifying opportunities and challenges youth face within the context of the CRDP. This paper followed a case study design with a qualitative approach to describe, compare, evaluate, and identify patterns or cause-and-effect relationships between the various variables. Findings indicate that most CRDP-trained youths use their skills for household purposes, and some become job creators. However, there is also evidence that the trainees need additional support to increase production and market participation. The paper recommends that youth in rural and peri-urban areas require further interventions from governmental and non-governmental agencies to support strategies for increased production and job creation, which will, in turn, improve their livelihoods to meet the SDGs.

MALAYSIAN ENTREPRENEUR’S TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION

Entrepreneurship is a part of social science, and it has many definitions. An entrepreneur is a person who actively seeks out change, adapts to it, and seizes the chance it presents as an opportunity. An entrepreneur has the capacity and aptitude to create and bring together all the production factors. Nowadays, entrepreneurs must utilize the internet and technology to widely promote their goods or services. They must be competitive, able to survive, and relevant in the business world; they must also be astute enough to grasp the digital platform and use it as one of their most powerful marketing tools. The development of technology in business has helped to open various new opportunities for entrepreneurs. In recent years, the use of digital technology has become increasingly prevalent in the business world, in addition to the outbreak of the covid 19 pandemic, causing a high reliance on digital technology in business. Digital technology and artificial intelligence have had a significant impact on entrepreneurial activities around the world. However, a substantial majority of business owners in Malaysia see the significance of technology in the administration of their companies; moreover, only a tiny percentage of these business owners incorporate technology into their operations. Due to that, education and digital knowledge sharing for entrepreneurs also need to be developed rapidly in line with the country's demands to be better prepared to face the real challenges of the entrepreneurial world, especially in the current industry, which is constantly increasing. This concept paper focuses on the relationship between technology and entrepreneurship, the study of previous literature on the relationship between entrepreneurs and digital technology, government efforts, and the well-being and development of entrepreneurs in Malaysia.

The market of academic texts in Russia (according to a qualitative survey)

In Russia, there exists a market where academic texts are sold and bought, from student qualification papers to scientific articles and dissertations. Although its existence violates the formal norms and values of the scientific community, it functions sustainably. The authors analyze the established practices of writing academic texts on demand (with an emphasis on the study of the social behavior of actors) as part of a specific organizational field, a kind of market. The study is based on semi-structured interviews with six direct actors, so-called scriptors (or ghostwriters) and four experts representing NGOs in the field of science and higher education. Destructive entrepreneurship in the system of higher education and science is characterized as a complex system, the actors of which are not only informally “self-employed” scriptors, but also formal organizations that provide contact between customers and performers of academic work. The stability of quasi-scientific texts market in Russia is associated at the macro level with the high demand for higher education and scientific degrees as a status attribute, as well as with a significant supply from scientific and pedagogical workers, thus compensating for the limited opportunities for legal academic entrepreneurship by informal destructive entrepreneurship. At the meso level, the institutional conditions are the rigidity of Russian universities, which continue to be primarily educational institutions, where legal academic entrepreneurship of an innovative type is developing very modestly, and low salaries of staff members. At the micro level, it is an attempt to impose publication activity as the main criterion of academic success in conditions where a significant part of university staff perceive themselves as teachers, not researchers, and do not seek (or do not have the opportunity) to change this situation.

Empowering Women by Strengthening the Economic Sector and Digital Marketing Through a Women's School in Tambakmenjangan Village

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on various sectors, including tourism, trade and industry, particularly impacting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. According to Adistianingsih and Panjaitan (2022), Indonesia ranks 109th out of 144 countries in terms of women's participation in the economy and entrepreneurial opportunities. This reflects the limited opportunities for women in the world of work and entrepreneurship in Indonesia. Patriarchal culture and negative stigma surrounding the role of women in rural areas exacerbate this problem. This program aims to overcome the low economic participation of women in Tambakmenjangan Village, Lamongan Regency. The problem is the low level of women's empowerment, which has an impact on low levels of education, societal stigma and early marriage. This program utilizes non-formal education and skills training programs for women which are carried out in collaboration with the Lamongan Islamic University student organization. The activity design includes a six-month culinary, fashion and make-up training program for women in Tambakmenjangan Village. The findings show that this program has succeeded in empowering women by increasing their skills and knowledge in various fields. The program also involves partnerships with government agencies, local businesses, and educational institutions. Monitoring and evaluation were carried out to ensure program effectiveness, and workshops were held to disseminate and publicize the results. The implications of this research are very significant because they contribute to the empowerment of women in rural areas and address the gender gap in economic participation.

Analysis of The Effect of Halal Labelization, Brand Image and Prices on Consumer Purchasing Decisions With Religious As Moderating Variables on Coastal Honey in Kertasada Village, Sumenep District

The need for honey in Indonesia alone reaches an average of 150,000 tons per year. This means that Indonesia has to import around 50% of its honey from abroad to meet this demand. This could also be an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to develop their honey business. Even though it seems traditional, the honey business opportunity has undergone modernization and development, from marketing to the processed honey itself. Coastal Honey is a honey bee cultivation business located in Kertasada Village. Coastal Honey, which has been established for around 8 years, is a business that has great prospects with profits increasing almost every year, coupled with the existence of resellers in various regions of Indonesia. The purpose of this research is to research and analyze the influence of halal labeling, Brand Image and Price on Consumer Purchasing Decisions with Religiosity as Moderating Variable on Coastal Honey in Kertasada Village, Sumenep Regency. This research is a quantitative exploration, with the population being the people of Sumenep, especially people who buy Coastal Honey. The testing strategy in this review uses purposive sampling testing, specifically determining samples with certain standards, especially consumers who buy Coastal Honey. Interviews and direct observations with the owner Coastal Honey and distributed questionnaires to 100 respondents which were used to collect data. As well as using data analysis techniques, namely Descriptive Statistics Test, Validity Test, Reliability Test, Classical Assumption Test, Multiple Linear Regression Test, Coefficient of Determination Test and Hypothesis Test. The results of this research show that the Halal Labeling variable, Brand Image, Price and Religiosity have a significant effect on Purchasing Decisions partially and simultaneously. And the moderation results show that Religiosity moderates the relationship between Halal Labeling, Brand Image and Price on Purchase Decisions.

Determination of Micro-Insurance Premium Price for Fisheries Using Poisson-Exponential Aggregate Distribution Approach

Engaging in pond aquaculture is currently an attractive option amid the high demand for fish in the market. Entrepreneurial opportunities in the pond fish farming sector are increasingly open, although the risk of crop failure remains, both due to weather factors and the livestock process. Crop failure can have a significant financial impact on pond aquaculture cultivators. Therefore, it is necessary to have special insurance to protect against financial losses due to risks that can occur, namely Fisheries Micro Insurance. Microinsurance is a type of insurance product that is specifically designed for low-income people, offering simple, accessible, economically priced features and administration, and a fast compensation settlement process. The focus of this research is to calculate premium prices by applying an aggregate risk model approach. The data used is the number of incidents and the amount of losses due to crop failure in shrimp pond cultivation in Pandeglang Regency in the period of January 1, 2019-January 1, 2021. Data on the number of events follows the Poisson distribution, while data on the magnitude of losses follows the Exponential distribution. Furthermore, the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method is used to calculate the parameter estimation. The average and variance estimates of the aggregate risk are used to determine the amount of premiums. The result of the premium selection in this study is IDR 42,005,600. The amount of premium reflects the collective premium resulting from the calculation based on the standard deviation principle.

Factors behind the resilience of rural startups

Rural areas are characterized by sparse population, low population density, remoteness, and population aging, which can discourage startups and undermine their financial performance, as the theory of urban agglomeration economies suggests. However, many studies have shown that companies created in rural areas survive longer than those created in urban areas, which seems contradictory. This paper aims to identify the factors that explain this rural resilience. We analyzed all of the startups founded in Spain over 10 years. We used statistical matching methods to test for the effect of the location while controlling for founding conditions and environmental factors. Our study confirmed that few startups are created in rural areas and they grow less, but their survival rate is slightly higher than those established in urban areas. We found that high subsidies, low operating costs, high labor intensity, a slow but low-risk growth pattern, and other foundational conditions and external factors contribute to explaining rural resilience. Nonetheless, additional factors, including the traits of rural entrepreneurs and the lack of alternatives to bankruptcy, as proposed by the entrepreneurial opportunity theory, also matter.

Why Are There So Few Schumpeterian Entrepreneurs from China? Understanding the Factors That Influence Entrepreneurial Opportunity Evaluation from a Comparative Culture Perspective

Opportunity evaluation is a very important part of entrepreneurial activity; however, entrepreneurs’ individual differences in evaluating opportunities have been neglected in prior research. To address this gap, we apply institutional theory and stereotype threat theory to explain how some institutional factors differentiate entrepreneurs’ opportunity evaluation process. More specifically, we explore how external institutional factors, such as political and social factors, along with personal institutional factors, such as family influences, affect the opportunity evaluation of entrepreneurs under various cultural backgrounds, specifically China and the United States. The Schumpeterian entrepreneur, in which radical innovation and the desire to significantly upend market equilibria, frames our discussion. This paper contributes to the theoretical understanding of the factors influencing entrepreneurial opportunity evaluation from a comparative culture perspective and to the comparative international entrepreneurship field by building a comparative evaluation framework that summarizes institutional factors influencing Chinese and American entrepreneurs’ opportunity evaluation. We propose that policy, social value, and belief as well as family will have significant impacts on entrepreneurs’opportunity evaluation. We further propose several cultural constructs such as individualism vs. collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, and Confucian work dynamism will moderate the relationship with institutional factors in influencing an entrepreneur’s opportunity evaluation process. We discuss our implications with attention given to how our comparative evaluation framework provides insights into why China and the United States differ in terms of developing Schumpeterian entrepreneurs. We then discuss the framework’s limitations.

Financial analysis shows that investment in the Ayam Geprek Sambal Lesung Paradisa MSME is feasible and profitable, with an internal rate of return of 9.5%, a 7 month Payback Period, and a multi-product Break Even Point, indicating an attractive business opportunity for entrepreneurs

How can new farmers improve their entrepreneurial performance? Qualitative comparative analysis based on fuzzy sets

Based on the configuration theory, this paper discusses the multiple concurrent causes and causal complex mechanisms affecting the performance differences among different new farmers. Using the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method, taking 40 cases of CCTV’s “ZHI FU JING” column as samples, the paper analyzes the necessary conditions for new farmers to produce high performance by the anthefactory-variable configuration composed of human capital, social capital, psychological capital, entrepreneurial learning and entrepreneurial opportunity identification. The results show that: (1) high human capital is the necessary core condition for new farmers to produce high entrepreneurial performance, lack of high entrepreneurial learning and lack of high entrepreneurial opportunity identification is the core necessary condition for low entrepreneurial performance; (2) the driving mechanism of new farmers’ high entrepreneurial performance is divided into three paths, and the driving mechanism of new farmers’ low entrepreneurial performance is divided into two paths; and (3) the ways of inhibiting new farmers’ performance and promoting their performance are asymmetrical.

The Creation Theory of Entrepreneurship and Lean Startup Frameworks: Complementary or Contradictory?

The practitioner framework, the Lean Startup, largely based on the experience of Blank (2013), and developed separately from scholarly work, has none-the-less made inroads in the academic literature. In reconciling The Lean Startup framework with entrepreneurship theory, Blank and Eckhardt argue that theory work in entrepreneurship is fragmented. However, this paper argues that these theories may not be as fragmented as implied. Indeed, many theories in entrepreneurship can be grouped into two “families”—one of which is broadly consistent with the model in The Lean Startup, while the other is deeply inconsistent with this model but consistent with an important theory in entrepreneurship: the Creation Theory of Entrepreneurial Opportunities. What this paper shows is that there are important differences that lead to boundary conditions between these two families of theory. More profound, these different approaches to the entrepreneurship process suggest they should be applied in different entrepreneurial settings and at different points in the process. This paper examines the link between the Creation Theory of Entrepreneurship and its associated family of theories and the Lean Startup framework and its associated family of theories, such as Discovery, IO Nexus, The Scientific Method, and so forth. The paper concludes by describing the different contexts under which each family of theories apply and suggests future research that empirically test the boundary conditions of these different theory families.

Pengaruh Persepsi Harga dan Inovasi Produk Terhadap Keputusan Pembelian Hijab Rabbani di Kota Salatiga dengan Religiusitas Sebagai Variabel Pemoderasi

The large Muslim population in Indonesia creates opportunities for entrepreneurs to develop and market their products, especially in the field of Muslim fashion. The aim of this research is to find out how much influence price perceptions and product innovation have on purchasing decisions with religiosity as a moderating variable at the Rabbani company in Salatiga City, especially in the hijab product category. This research is a descriptive quantitative research with primary data obtained from the method of distributing questionnaires to 130 respondents who had purchased hijab products at the Rabbani shop in Salatiga City via Google Form using a purposive sampling technique. Based on the T test and MRA test, it shows that there is a positive and significant influence from the price perception variable on the purchasing decision variable, product innovation on purchasing decisions. There are also positive and significant results from the interaction between price perceptions and religiosity on purchasing decisions and significant positive results from product innovation on purchasing decisions. Therefore, it is important for the Rabbani company to continue to pay attention and maintain consumer satisfaction so that it can continue to compete with similar products.

After more than a hundred years of research on entrepreneurship, what about looking for H.E.R.?

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to answer a well-known but always-current question: what is the focus of entrepreneurship research? Usually, scholars address their attention toward the boundaries of entrepreneurship, and question the possible overlaps with innovation, on the one hand, and management, on the other. Despite their relevance, achieved results are still uncertain and opaque. To overcome these limits, the present paper adopts a different approach and, instead of delimiting the boundaries, looks for the heart of entrepreneurship research – H.E.R. Design/methodology/approach This paper reviews entrepreneurship literature not as a whole, but according to four main strands of research, respectively dealing with the telos (the Greek word standing for the aims), psychological traits, the context and the network. The results are read and interpreted to intertwine them and look for H.E.R. Findings This paper achieves two main results. First, it is clarified that H.E.R. consists of the adoption of dynamic capabilities by entrepreneurs and their networks in an attempt to foresee the future; the effort to work on entrepreneurial opportunities to make them mature for stakeholders and the market, thus reducing the likeability bias; and the reference to a context characterized by unknown unknowns. Second, by looking for H.E.R., it is possible to clearly distinguish entrepreneurship from other fields of research. Originality/value To the best of the author’s knowledge, this paper is among the first that look for H.E.R., the heart – and not the boundaries – of entrepreneurship research. Originality consists of adopting an unusual perspective to advance entrepreneurship studies and contribute to the international debate about their focus.

Whether ChatGPT adoption inspires higher education students’ digital entrepreneurial intention? An integrated model of the SCCT and the TPB

Purpose This study aims to integrate the Social Cognitive Career Theory with the Theory of Planned Behavior to unravel the intricate dynamics of how engaging with ChatGPT affects individuals’ digital entrepreneurial intention, underlying the serial mediation mechanism of the cognitive and reasoned career process. Design/methodology/approach This research use a cross-sectional design, drawing on a sample of 604 higher education students from six universities in Vietnam. Multiple regression analyses were conducted to test the formulated hypotheses after assessing the reliability and validity of scales through Cronbach’s alpha and confirmatory factor analysis. Findings The results indicate that ChatGPT adoption significantly increases perceived AI competencies, entrepreneurial opportunity recognition and digital entrepreneurial self-efficacy. Digital entrepreneurial self-efficacy was found to have a positive impact on attitudes toward digital entrepreneurship, which, in turn, fosters digital entrepreneurial intention. ChatGPT adoption thus poses serial indirect impacts on digital entrepreneurial intention through the sequential pathways of enhanced digital entrepreneurial self-efficacy and positive attitudes. Practical implications This study’s findings provide valuable recommendations for entrepreneurs, higher education institutions and policymakers. Originality/value This research contributes to the entrepreneurship literature by integrating two prominent theoretical frameworks to elucidate how ChatGPT adoption impacts digital entrepreneurial intentions. The serial mediation model expands that understanding of the complex cognitive and reasoned processes involved, providing a novel perspective on the role of AI in entrepreneurship.

What makes for digital entrepreneurs? The role of AI-related drivers for nascent digital start-up activities

PurposeApplying the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) model, this study aims to explore how AI-driven stimuli (e.g. ChatGPT adoption in entrepreneurship and perceived AI competencies) stimulate individuals’ cognitive organisms (e.g. digital entrepreneurial opportunity exploration and exploitation), and how these individually, congruently, and incongruently trigger their behavioral responses (e.g. nascent digital start-up activities).Design/methodology/approachUtilizing a sample of 1326 MBA students in Vietnam with a stratified sampling approach, multiple linear regression and polynomial regression with response surface analysis were used to test hypotheses.FindingsThe findings reveal that ChatGPT adoption in entrepreneurship and perceived AI competencies have a positive and significant impact on individuals’ digital entrepreneurial opportunity exploration and exploitation, which in turn, positively affects nascent digital start-up activities. Moreover, the study also reports that digital entrepreneurial opportunity exploration and exploitation can be congruently combined with each other to trigger the effects of nascent digital start-up activities.Practical implicationsSome valuable recommendations based on the findings have been provided for practitioners and policymakers.Originality/valueThe study contributes to the academic landscape by validating the SOR model within the context of AI adoption and entrepreneurship. It emphasizes the sequential processes of stimulus, cognitive responses, and behavioral outcomes, shedding light on nuanced effects in the digital entrepreneurial landscape.

How does green entrepreneurial orientation improve enterprises' sustainable performance? Evidence from agricultural sector in China

AbstractSustainable development of enterprises has attracted the attention of scholars and practitioners. Green entrepreneurship, as an important way to provide eco‐friendly products and solve environmental problems, is a key way for the sustainable development of enterprises. However, due to the disadvantage faced by enterprises in pursuing costly sustainable actions, existing research on whether green entrepreneurial orientation (GEO) can bring about sustainable performance improvement has not yet reached a consensus, and the path and mechanism of transforming GEO into sustainable performance also need further exploration. Based on the Natural‐Resource‐Based View (NRBV), Entrepreneurial Orientation Theory and Dynamic Capability View (DCV), this study examines the impact of GEO on sustainable performance, the mediating role and chain mediating role of entrepreneurial opportunity recognition (EOR), and business model innovation (BMI). The results based on 207 agricultural enterprises reveal that: (a) GEO positively influences economic performance, environmental performance, and social performance; (b) EOR and BMI play mediating roles in the above relationships; (c) GEO can also indirectly affects sustainable performance through the chain mediating effect of EOR and BMI. The research results provide a new theoretical perspective for understanding the key antecedents of sustainable performance of enterprises, further open the “black box” of the mechanism between GEO and sustainable performance, expand the NRBV, Entrepreneurial Orientation Theory and DCV, and provide practical implications for green transformation in the agricultural sector and promoting its sustainable development.

Unemployed Biotechnology Graduates: Need of Modernization of Education and Training in Tunisia

Biotechnology is a priority higher education and economical sector for Tunisia. However, there is an ever-increasing unemployment rate of the biotechnology graduates in the country. Indeed, this huge problem warrants immediate attention and necessary actions from various stakeholders. This study presents the results of a benchmarking visit, which was arranged by Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) in Finland, as part of 'BiotechTunisia' Erasmus+ project entitled ‘Modernization of Biotechnology training for better employability of graduates in Tunisia’. There are four Tunisian and three European partners in this project that leads to modernization of skills of teachers, researchers, and students to improve employment and opportunities for entrepreneurship of young graduates in Tunisia. The project aims to modernize the education and the scientific research in the biotechnology field. During this benchmarking visit, Tunisian partners attended seminars, workshops, visited advanced learning facilities, participated to many group discussions, learned about teacher tutoring concept, and student counselling method. Delegation learned about new learning methodologies, pedagogy, and soft skills of students, which could be replicated in their home country education system. The benchmarking visit is seen as an opportunity for Tunisian partners to transfer the good practices from Finland to their home country. Tunisian delegates agree that the learnings could have a positive impact in their education system in coming years towards modernization of education and training of biotechnology students.

Responsible migrants: rights-claiming, risks and costs at the shelter

ABSTRACT Spaces of migration comprise multiple processes of knowledge-production operating at the nexus of state, non-state actors and individuals. Looking at a domestic migrant shelter in Singapore reveals how it acts as an alternative site of knowledge-production. Interviews with migrant workers at the shelter describe how they learn to ‘stand up’ for themselves by learning about laws, rights and job alternatives. At the same time, they reveal how risks and costs lie on the other side of rights-claiming; similarly, while jobseeking is an empowering act, opportunities for entrepreneurship fuel the neoliberal subjectification of migrant workers and distances the state from its duty of care. Using ‘responsibilisation’ as a lens helps make sense of the overlaps between systemic constraints and forms of agency that co-exist within the migration regime. Where the shelter offers opportunities for change, it also problematically reproduces a status quo where rights-claiming, burden of proof and jobseeking are constructed as the responsibility of migrants and NGOs, and beyond the remit of the state.
