The role of technology in the future of restaurant labor

Purpose This research aims to explore the role of technology in the future of restaurant labor. It focused on the opinions of restaurant employees, including managers, regarding technological trends such as service robots, self-service kiosks, robot chefs and automated cooking systems and how these may affect the future of restaurant labor. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative research approach was adopted, and interviews were conducted with restaurant employees in the USA. Findings The findings uncovered that the benefits, impacts and shortcomings of technological trends in the restaurant industry differ depending on employees’ perspectives. Also, the findings of the shortcomings of each technological trend support the need for human labor as some aspects of technological trends cannot address the requirements of some tasks. Originality/value This research proposed a conceptual framework explaining the role of technological trends in the future of restaurant labor. It is one of the first studies to examine the role of technology in the future of hospitality labor, specifically restaurant labor, after the pandemic.

Enhancing Employee Retention in Small Businesses through an Innovative Methodology

The study aims to examine the labor market challenges and motivational factors for employee retention through the example of a small machinery company in Hungary. In recent years, Hungary’s labor market has faced significant difficulties, particularly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in temporary unemployment followed by labor shortages. The research aims to identify the motivational, welfare, and financial factors that contribute to employee retention. Due to the small sample size, we did not investigate the relationships concerning loyalty, commitment, and performance. The research methods included comprehensive data collection at a machinery company employing 24 people located near the Austrian-Hungarian border. During the data collection, we conducted a questionnaire survey that included questions related to benefits, performance, commitment, and loyalty. The collected data were processed by calculating weighted averages and differences. The results indicate that flexible working hours and easy accessibility to the workplace are of utmost importance to employees. There is also a significant demand for performance-based pay and diverse, flexible benefit packages. Employees require both formal and informal professional recognition, such as praise and awards. The research has practical significance for both organizational management and employee well-being. Understanding employee opinions and implementing measures based on these can have four primary effects: improvement in employee performance, reduction in turnover, increase in organizational commitment, and enhancement of the company’s positive perception.

Analysis on the Employees’ Perception of Leadership, in a Company With a Production Profile in Romania

Abstract The success of an organization consists of a multitude of factors and elements, which combined perfectly lead to the achievement of the best performing standards. The frequently asked question is not whether an organization can be successful, but what exactly makes an organization successful. Therefore, we can say that both managers (leaders) and employees have important roles, starting with the objectives and strategies established at the level of the organization and up to their implementation and the relationship between them and providing permanent and reciprocal feedback. In a previous study we analyzed the relationship between leaders and employees within organizations with a production profile in Romania, so we considered it necessary to analyze the opinion of employees towards leaders. Thus, the 31 respondents occupy different executive positions within a production company. A questionnaire based on a quantitative analysis was used as a working tool. It consisted of 18 questions (17 closed-ended questions and one open-ended question). The questionnaire was distributed directly (online) using the Google Forms platform. In conclusion, we can say that the employee-leader relationship must also be analyzed from the perspective of the behavior that both have within the organization. Following the study, we can say that leaders are largely satisfied with the behavior and attitude that leaders show towards them in different situations.

Assessment of Lighting in Medical Facilities from an Occupational Health Perspective

ABSTRACT Although workplace lighting improves employee satisfaction and performance, it may also harm health. It has been established that the lighting in hospitals influences the productivity of the staff. and patient healing ability. This study aimed to assess hospital lighting conditions and determine their impacts. During the first part of the study, lighting measurements were taken and evaluated in compliance with the TS EN 12,464-1: 2021–09 criteria in October and November of 2021. In the second step, 360 people were surveyed to evaluate employee opinions on lighting conditions. The maximum and minimum lighting levels were recorded at different hospital locations. Most participants worked in night shift, with an average age of 36.19 years and an average working time of 9 years. Overall, it was reported that the working and circulation spaces were well-lit. However, falls, cuts, fractures, sprains, bruises, and contusions were the most common lighting-related problems reported by the participants. According to the results, 15.5% of the participants experienced an occupational accident due to lighting. Therefore, modifying hospital lighting standards and implementing steps to protect personnel health are critical.

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AS A TOOL FOR ACTIVATING SERVICE MARKETING IN SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES

Purpose: This research paper seeks to determine the relationship between internal and external customer satisfaction in order to activate the marketing of tourism services for Algerian small and medium enterprises by practicing internal marketing. Methodology: In order to answer the raised questions and test the validity of the hypotheses, and after reviewing previous studies, the descriptive analytical approach was relied upon, as this approach is one of the forms of scientific description and interpretation organized to describe the variable under study, depict it quantitatively, and analyze it. To extract the results, one of the methods of this approach was relied upon, which is the field survey by investigating the opinions of employees of the Algerian small and medium tourism enterprises under study on the impact of internal marketing on achieving internal and external customer satisfaction; to obtain data and information that help in coming up with results to provide suggestions and recommendations. The researchers used the questionnaire in this. The study community was selected, which was all small and medium tourism enterprises (agencies, hotels, airports, ...) operating in the Algerian tourism sector. Based on the study community, a random sample of 20 tourism enterprises operating in various parts of the country was selected. The sampling unit (items) was represented by the employees of the institutions under study. 140 questionnaires were distributed, 126 of which were returned, thus the return rate was 90%. Therefore, the study sample is 20 small and medium enterprises represented by 126 individuals. Results: The study concluded that there is a role for internal marketing procedures in achieving internal customer satisfaction, and that there is a role for internal customer satisfaction in achieving external customer satisfaction.. Practical Implications: The practical implications of the research were to recommend the need to expand the interest of Algerian small and medium enterprises in internal marketing, due to its major role in improving the organizational climate and achieving both job satisfaction and external customer satisfaction. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the concept of internal marketing application in SMEs as a necessity to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction, and can contribute something new to both practitioners as the study provides actionable insights for developing policies for these organizations.

Evaluation of the Energy Management System in Water and Wastewater Utilities in the Context of Sustainable Development—A Case Study

Energy management in enterprises is an important issue in the context of improving energy efficiency, energy use, and energy consumption. This is consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the energy management system of water and wastewater utility in the context of sustainable development based on the opinions of managers and employees. The results indicate the involvement of the surveyed enterprise in energy management system development activity. This demonstrates the orientation of the surveyed enterprise to support activities to improve energy performance in line with the implementation of sustainable development. The added value is that the developed research tool can be used in studies of other enterprises to assess the level of energy management.

Ethical considerations of using artificial intelligence (AI) in recruitment processes

The use of artificial intelligence technology in recruitment and selection procedures has become commonplace in business practice. As a result, there has been a significant increase in research on AI recruitment in recent years. However, these studies focus primarily on the considerations of skills and the effectiveness of AI tools. Only recently have analyses emerged presenting these procedures from an ethical perspective. The purpose of the article is to fill this gap and explore the opinions of both HR professionals and employees themselves regarding the use of artificial intelligence-based recruitment solutions. The article contains a systematic review of the literature and the results of a qualitative pilot study. The interview study was conducted in one organisation with the participation of four managers. Widely accepted assumptions about the objectivity of learning algorithms contribute to a seemingly positive image of AI-powered recruitment among practitioners, but the research conducted showed a number of ethical concerns raised by managers regarding AI recruitment requirements. The contrast between this positive image and the ethical concerns raised by critics of AI recruitment requires an assessment necessary to gain a more scientifically grounded perspective on the ethical status of AI recruitment.

Detrimental Effects of Remaining Silent about Operational Concerns at Work: Implications for employee outcomes

Although employee opinions play an important role in effective organizational functioning, research shows that employees, paradoxically, tend to withhold their opinions at work. Responding to numerous calls for future research in the literature, we study the adverse effects of employee silence on employee outcomes. Using a field study and an experimental study, we advance the current understanding of employee silence and show its detrimental consequences for employees’ job performance and creativity and the mechanisms underlying these relationships. Both studies consistently showed that employees’ silence about their work-related operational concerns was positively related to their emotional exhaustion, which was then negatively related to their job performance and creativity. Moreover, they revealed that these relationships were stronger when employees’ internal locus of control and the actionability of their concerns were high rather than low.

Regenerating and Developing a National Botanical Garden (NBG) in Khartoum, Sudan: Effect on Urban Landscape and Environmental Sustainability

This research focuses on the National Botanic Garden in Khartoum, Sudan, proposing tools and methods to assess botanical garden quality from multiple perspectives. It explores the related concepts between national botanical gardens and landscapes, regeneration landscapes and their components such as botanical gardens, their effects on urban regeneration in cities, urban environments, and environmental sustainability. This study aims to: regenerate and develop a National Botanical Garden in the Almogran area of Khartoum, Sudan, and highlight the importance of establishing a national botanical garden for each climatic region in Sudan. The study used questionnaires to identify the necessary needs for regeneration, and the opinions of employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry were surveyed about the purposes of: (1) evaluating the garden’s total area and interior design; (2) building regeneration; (3) establishing constructions, such as a library, seed gene bank, tissue culture laboratory, etc.; (4) emphasizing the need for modern technology to enhance quality. The study summarizes five regeneration technology methods: environmental plant restoration, water body restoration, building and facility restoration, reconstruction technology, and resource utilization; (5) botanical gardens were proposed for each climatic region in Sudan, and we studied the effects of establishing a botanical garden for each climate region in Sudan on environmental resilience, the effect of the botanical gardens’ regeneration on gardens within the cities, and effect of a national botanical garden on the urban landscape and environmental sustainability. These findings suggest that the comprehensive regeneration of the National Botanical Garden, integrating it with the urban regeneration of cities, especially urban greening regeneration, is important for enhancing urban landscapes, enhancing environmental resilience, environmental sustainability, climate change, and achieving land development goals, thus helping to address actual requirements and develop sustainable cities.

Algorithmic discrimination in the era of artificial intelligence: challenges of sustainable human resource management

The purpose of the paper is to determine the role of the phenomenon of algorithmic discrimination in the processes of implementing smart technologies in HR, particularly in the context of sustainable management. To accomplish this task, the author conducted a scoping review of the literature. The study indicated a significant role of the described phenomenon in shaping employee opinions about artificial intelligence and emphasised the importance of sustainable people management in its utilisation. The research results call for deeper reflection on how to assess the performance of artificial intelligence and highlight that attempting to replicate human abilities in machines not only offers new possibilities but also carries the risk of perpetuating human imperfections. The limitations of the study arise from the small number of available empirical studies in this area. The article helps to understand the essence of artificial intelligence and contributes to filling the knowledge gap regarding methods of managing people in the process of implementing smart technologies.

Assessment of selected elements of healthcare in the opinion of healthcare workers

The healthcare system is an important part of the functioning of any country. A special role in this system is played by the personnel — especially medical, but also non-medical personnel, who perform their tasks based on the available resources. The article considers the opinions of healthcare workers about selected elements of this system proposed by Zgliczyński. The opinions of employees regarding the current healthcare system compared to the one in 2019 are also included, highlighting the nature of these changes. Bearing in mind the relatively limited literature in the field of the considerations undertaken in this article, they can be regarded as important, up-to-date, and filling the research gap in this respect. The aim of the study was achieved using a critical analysis of the literature on the subject and a diagnostic survey. Empirical data were obtained from fieldwork conducted among staff of public and/or private sector healthcare facilities.

Features of the personnel motivation system in innovative organizations

This article is devoted to the study of the issues of innovative organizations personnel motivation. The author describes the features of innovative organizations: stimulating scientific research, innovation and the search for non–standard solutions, therefore their principles of motivation should be aimed specifically at the implementation of these tasks. The article is related to the issues of increasing the productivity and efficiency of companies. Often in traditional organizations, staff motivation systems are created without taking into account the opinions of employees and have little correlation with the company’s values. According to the author, for productive innovation, it is important to develop and implement a policy that encourages innovative approaches, as well as creativity and initiative of employees. A well thought out staff motivation system plays a key role in the application of this policy, which ultimately contributes to the successful implementation of ambitious projects, increasing profits and the image of the organization. The article presents the characteristics of motivational incentives, namely monetary and non–monetary. The author substantiates the thesis that in order to stimulate innovative activity to employees needs to choose an individual approach, and non–monetary motivation in this case turns out to be more important than the monetary component.

The Role of Strategic Auditing in Enhancing Strategic Performance: An Empirical Study of the Opinions of Employees at the General Company for Iraqi Ports

The objective of the research is to ascertain the significance of strategic auditing and evaluate its influence on enhancing strategic performance at the General Company for Iraqi Ports. In order to accomplish this, the researcher utilized a descriptive-analytical methodology, constructing a concept++ual framework that encompasses research variables and creating multiple primary hypotheses. The researcher employed a questionnaire as the principal instrument for data acquisition, disseminating a total of 200 forms. The SPSS software was used to analyze and determine the link between variables. The investigation yielded numerous significant findings, which are as follows: The study revealed a statistically significant correlation between the dimensions of strategic auditing and strategic performance indicators within the company under investigation. Additionally, a noteworthy correlation was observed between the dimensions of strategic auditing and strategic performance indicators. Based on the aforementioned findings, a series of recommendations that align with these conclusions have been put forth, accompanied by a clear delineation of the mechanisms required for their effective implementation.

The importance of training for the development and strengthening of a company’s competitive position

The development and achievement of a 21st century company’s desired market positioning is primarily based on innovation, creativity, education, and the functional knowledge of employees. The goal of this paper is to emphasize the relevance of training for the development and strengthening of a company’s competitive position, and therefore a primary survey was created in order to look at the attitudes and opinions of employees regarding employee training for different positions in companies working in the Republic of Serbia. The data was collected via the direct survey method while participation in the survey was voluntary. The research sample was a purposive sample of employees from small and medium-sized enterprises holding managerial and non-managerial positions. One hundred and twenty-three respondents (n=123) participated in the research. The data was collected from May 2022 until November 2022. Despite the fact that a statistically significant difference was not detected during the assessment of satisfaction with training programs in a company, the impact of training on the motivation of non-managerial staff, in relation to employees in managerial positions, was significantly expressed.

Regulatory agency reputation acquisition: A Q Methodology analysis of the views of agency employees

AbstractThis article reports findings of a Q Methodology study in which we explored the opinions of employees from eight Dutch regulatory agencies on how agencies gain their reputation. This is the largest study to date examining employee's views on the relative importance of different factors in reputation acquisition by public organizations, and the first analyzing employees in regulatory agencies. Results reveal five distinct “profiles” of opinion among employees about the factors most important in reputation acquisition. Regression analysis, further, supports that different regulatory agencies are dominated by employees with different opinions on how reputation is formed. These findings contribute to the growing empirical literature on how regulatory agencies, and their various employees, understand and approach reputation management.

A MCDM-based measurement proposal of job satisfaction comprising psychosocial risks

Preserving human well-being has become challenging for businesses, which continue efforts to overcome managing business processes concurrently, due to the cumulative effects of psychosocial risks at work that may seriously impair one’s health. By focusing on this need, this paper proposes a more effective and realistic way of measuring job satisfaction comprising psychosocial risks by integrating multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methodology. Simplified PIvot Pairwise RElative Criteria Importance Assessment (PIPRECIA-S), i.e. the selected MCDM method, is used for weighting domains based on the opinions of employees working for a company in Türkiye, who also provide their attitudes towards job satisfaction through 36 items of Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS). This paper uses nine subscales of JSS to represent domains relevant to psychosocial risks. Three developed scenarios discuss the effectiveness of the proposed subscale-weighted job satisfaction measurement by presenting the subscales having different ranges in standard scores relative to the subscale-weighted scores.

The present analysis selected three top IT companies in India and examined the role of AI in their recruitment process. The papers examined the different factors which are linking to both recruitment process and IT industry. The present paper collected the opinions of employees working in three different companies and evaluated the importance of AI in recruitment process in IT industry.

The objective of the study is to analyse the study on challenges faced by employees in Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Chennai. The study based only on the opinion and expectation of employees. Total number of sample taken for the study is 150 respondents. Descriptive research design and Convenience sampling techniques were used for the study. Primary data and secondary data have been used in the study. Simple Percentage analysis, chi square analysis and correlation analysis have been applied in this study to reach the finding of the study.

Problems and prospects of prevention of family problems: the results of the author's research (based on the materials of the Republic of Mordovia)

The article presents the results of the author's sociological research on the identification of problems and prospects for the prevention of family problems in the Republic of Mordovia. The authors analyzed the opinions of competent employees of social protection and social service institutions of the Republic of Mordovia, which allowed not only to identify current problems in the prevention of family problems in the Republic of Mordovia, but also to identify promising areas. The authors conclude that the further prospects for the modernization of the state family policy in the field of prevention of family problems depends on the solution of a number of tasks related to its theoretical and methodological, regulatory, organizational, managerial and resource support.
