Depending on the requirements of the technology and the operator factor, the operating speeds of technological machines can vary in different intervals. It is proposed to distinguish between small and large ranges of technological speed changes relative to the variator control range. If the range of speed changes goes beyond the control range of the variator, then it will be a large range, and otherwise it will be a small range. The working speed of the technological machine can be changed stepwise or continuously. Step-by-step speed control is carried out using a gearbox, and stepless regulation is carried out using a variator. The technological speed in a large range is recommended to be steplessly adjusted using a variator and a gearbox, and in a small range – using a variator and a gearbox. A V-belt variator with a standard V-belt drive is proposed, the main tasks of its development are defined.
