In little more than 15 years, the podcast has gone from being virtually unknown to becoming a multibillion-dollar industry. There are an estimated half-billion podcast listeners worldwide. Podcasts are available for various interests, from entertainment to news, politics, sports, hobbies, and education. Podcasting in medicine has similar origins, beginning with journals and academic/educational institutions wishing to share information on new clinical trials or publications, as well as by those who wanted to promote the free and open access model of online education. The COVID-19 outbreak led to a renaissance in the availability of infectious diseases-oriented audio podcasts, due to the need for regular information about SARS-CoV-2 and the pandemic-related preference for virtual learning. However, many in the infectious diseases community have not yet been introduced to available infectious diseases podcast resources. In this article, we highlight 38 of the most popular infectious diseases-oriented audio podcasts.

The Application, Limitations, and Improvement Measures of MOOCs in Education in the New Era

MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) are an internet-based online education model that provides teaching resources and services to global users via web platforms. The development of MOOCs can be traced back to 2002, with significant acceleration in recent years. In education, MOOCs have been widely applied, such as in flipped classrooms and teacher training. They offer high flexibility and rich learning resources, significantly improving students' learning efficiency and reducing learning costs. However, MOOCs also face challenges, such as uneven teaching quality, lack of learner self-discipline, and insufficient humanistic care. For the sustainable development of MOOCs, there is a need to strengthen teacher training, improve teaching quality, enhance teaching evaluation and feedback, and perfect online education regulation. With the rapid development of information technology and the internet, MOOC education has become a prominent educational model. This paper aims to discuss the application of MOOCs in education in the new era, analyze the existing problems, and propose effective improvement measures to more effectively promote the development of MOOC education.

Medical school students' perspectives on virtual anatomy education in a developing country.

Understanding the fundamental role anatomy education plays in medical training and taking into consideration the nascence of online education in Nigeria, this study evaluated the perceptions of medical and allied-health students toward online anatomy education both during the COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria and for the future. For this study, Google Form questionnaires were distributed via different social and academic platforms to medical and allied-health students in Nigeria between September 28 and December 17, 2020. A total of 954 students participated in the study and 947 valid responses were recorded. The results showed that 77.6% of the students had reported computer/IT skills and 12.1% admitted that they had never attended an online class. Interestingly, 60% of the respondents disapproved of online learning approaches as effective tools for instructions in the anatomical sciences. Majority of the students (84%) agreed that their performance in anatomy would have been better if the classes were face-to-face, while 55% found the online anatomy classes uninteresting. Furthermore, 91.5% agreed that anatomy educators needed advanced skills for online education, while 94.2% agreed that anatomy online teaching needs more advanced technology to be implemented in Nigeria. This study revealed an overall negative perception about the suitability and effectiveness of online anatomy education in Nigerian medical/health training. This study recommends further investigations into the challenges that were presented during online anatomy education at the peak of the pandemic. This will help direct the development and implementation of a workable and sustainable online education model for anatomical sciences in Nigeria.

Online palliative care education and mentorship in Nepal: Project ECHO - a novel approach to improving knowledge and self-efficacy among interprofessional health-care providers.

Palliative care access in Nepal is severely limited, with few health-care providers having training and skills to pain management and other key aspects of palliative care. Online education suggests an innovation to increase access to training and mentoring, which addresses common learning barriers in low- and middle-income countries. Project ECHO (Extensions for Community Health Care Outcomes) is a model of online education which supports communities of practices (COPs) and mentoring through online teaching and case discussions. The use of online education and Project ECHO in Nepal has not been described or evaluated. An online course, consisting of 14 synchronous weekly palliative care training sessions was designed and delivered, using the Project ECHO format. Course participants included health-care professionals from a variety of disciplines and practice settings in Nepal. The goal of this study was to evaluate the impact of a virtual palliative care training program in Nepal on knowledge and attitudes of participants. Pre- and post-course surveys assessed participants' knowledge, comfort, and attitudes toward palliative care and evaluated program acceptability and barriers to learning. Forty-two clinicians, including nurses (52%) and physicians (48%), participated in program surveys. Participants reported significant improvements in their knowledge and attitudes toward core palliative care domains. Most participants identified the program as a supportive COP, where they were able to share and learn from faculty and other participants. Project ECHO is a model of online education which can successfully be implemented in Nepal, enhancing local palliative care capacity. Bringing together palliative care local and international clinical experts and teachers supports learning for participants through COP. Encouraging active participation from participants and ensuring that teaching addresses availability and practicality of treatments in the local health-care context addresses key barriers of online education. This study describes a model of structured virtual learning program, which can be implemented in settings with limited access to palliative care to increase knowledge and attitudes toward palliative care. The program equips health-care providers to better address serious health-related suffering, improving the quality of life for patients and their caregivers. The program demonstrates a model of training which can be replicated to support health-care providers in rural and remote settings.

Design of an online education student learning status evaluation model based on dual-improved neural networks

With the continuous development of network technology, online education has become an important form of education. However, in the online education model, it is difficult for educators to effectively evaluate students' learning status, and using a learning status evaluation model can effectively solve this problem. The main goal of this model is to comprehensively evaluate students' learning behavior, progress, and outcomes, in order to understand their learning status, provide effective teaching feedback to teachers, help students improve learning methods, and improve learning efficiency. The current automatic evaluation model for student learning status has certain limitations in terms of applicability and accuracy. A student learning state evaluation model based on Multi task Cascaded Convolutional Networks (MTCNN) is proposed to address the effectiveness of online education student learning state evaluation. Use the facial image acquisition function to extract students' facial features, process each feature through label classification, and then analyze the students' attention and learning emotions. Finally, analyze the effectiveness of the research method application. The results showed that the train_loss value of the learning state evaluation model proposed in the study can be reduced to about 0.1; the train_acc value can reach more than 95 %, and the overall volatility is small; the overall evaluation accuracy of facial expressions can reach 74.71 %, which is significantly better than cpc, VGG19 and other evaluation methods; compared with the comprehensive evaluation results and multi-modal analysis methods, only two evaluations at the critical value are different. The experimental results show that the online education students’ learning status evaluation model designed by the research has a high accuracy rate and has a certain application potential in the field of online education.

Comparison of Virtual Learning Community Construction between China and the United States Based on KH Coder Text Data Mining

Virtual learning communities, as an innovative online education model, have gained significant attention worldwide. The virtual learning communities in the United States are characterized by advanced educational models, innovative technological applications, and rich practical experiences. Exploring and drawing lessons from the construction of virtual learning communities in the United States is of great value to China. This paper utilizes KH Coder as an analysis tool and conducts literature searches on the Web of Science for U.S. literature and on the CNKI database for Chinese literature. The analysis covers the period from 2019 to 2024, and includes frequency and network co-linearity analyses. The research findings indicate the following: First, Chinese online education research emphasizes the importance of technological application and innovation in the field of education. Second, Chinese online teaching research has certain limitations in terms of research scope. Third, there are certain issues in the dissemination of research findings in Chinese online teaching research. Based on the research results, the following adjustments should be made for Chinese virtual learning communities: First, the comparison of research literature between China and the United States shows that the development of virtual learning communities requires diverse collaborations. Second, the development of virtual learning communities requires continuous technological innovation. Third, the comparison of research literature between China and the United States reminds us that the development of virtual learning communities needs to focus on social interaction. Fourth, the development of virtual learning communities also requires teacher support and participation. Fifth, the development of virtual learning communities needs to encourage students' active participation and autonomous learning.

The development of technology also manifests itself in the educational environment. The traditional education model is already being replaced by the modern online education model. An electronic learning environment is created here. Online education allows people to learn remotely. This is basically a pretty advanced feature for anyone with internet access. It is possible to get access to any classes at any time, regardless of time and place. E-learning, which has many advantages, also helps in the development of individual education.
 Electronic universities are one of the places where electronic educational environment is applied. E-universities can offer more advanced services to more students. At the same time, it is possible to choose an individual educational trajectory here. The selection of the individual trajectory of students is carried out on the basis of a certain method. And the management of electronic universities is carried out in electronic form.
 The article is devoted to the study of the electronic university project as an electronic educational environment and its main space. Online education, e-learning environment, e-universities, services offered by them, methods and means of implementing individual education, algorithm of e-university management, calculations and examples in this direction are mentioned here.

ELT Teachers’ and Learners’ Perceptions of Online Core Language Courses during Pandemic

In 2020, the global sanitary crisis of COVID-19 prompted us to search for strategies to keep communicating in all areas of society. The education domain had to adapt and quickly made a significant shift towards digital interactions to facilitate instructional delivery for teaching and learning. This qualitative case study aimed at exploring the perceptions and most challenging facts associated with an Online education model applied to core courses in an ELT program at a Colombian university. Data from surveys interviews and focus groups applied to 115 learners and 20 teachers suggested that despite the benefits regarding authentic materials for language learners, constraints related to learners connectivity, teachers-students interaction, social presence, motivation, evaluation, and the delivery of feedback were the most challenging situations. The overview portrayed in this study will facilitate comprehension of the learning and teaching issues presented during Covid 19 pandemic and will raise awareness of new perspectives for further online instruction.

Financial sustainability of higher education system

Purpose- Financial sustainability is vital for the higher education systems in the global competitive atmosphere of the world of 2020s. This paper reviews a comparative analysis between the budgets and expenditures of the Turkish and British higher education systems, beside a view on those of the OECD countries. This paper intends to clarify Turkish higher education system’s difficulties in financial sustainability to provide required academic standards due to increasing costs and number of students versus the economic strength of significant actors such as the United Kingdom in the globalized competition. For this reason, this paper advocates cost advantages provided by the application of effective online education model to acquire financial sustainability clarifying the rise of digital universities by the 2030s. Methodology-. The study employs a literature review aiming to perform a comparative analysis on the financial structures of Turkish and British higher education systems. Moreover, OECD data were also reflected. The aim was to identify the possible difficulties of Turkish higher education system in financial sustainability to provide required academic standards in the competitive global area and find a contemporary solution. Findings- The analysis reveals that the Turkish higher education system have disadvantages in providing financial sustainability under the conditions of increasing costs as well as number of students in order to reach the required standards in the global league. Notably, it is clearly seen that efective application of online education strategy is an opportunity to balance revenues and expenditures in this way. As a matter of the fact, the effect of digital transformation era and the attitude of Generation Z students have already prepared this atmosphere. Conclusion-. Governments highly financed higher education systems after 20th Century. However, financial problems emerged due to increasing number of students and increasing costs. Eventhough the budgets had continuously been increased, Turkish higher education system have realized lower expenditures in the OECD average. Problems in financial sustainability to provide required academic standards have clearly been noticed in the global competitive atmosphere while compared with the example of the United Kingdom. Over the Covid-19 crisis, universities successfully implemented hybrid education around the world increasing the effect of online systems forced by Generation Z’s perspective on embracing Digital Technologies. So, effective application of online education model appeared as a new opportunity for Turkish higher education system to provide financial sustainability decreasing costs and also efficiently compete in the global area. Indeed, blended learning in traditional universities and inevitable growth of digital higher education institutions named as University 5.0 will be seen after 2030s. Traditional Cultural Network Online Education Integrating Deep Learning and Knowledge Tracking

With the popularization of the computer network and the development of artificial intelligence technology, the traditional education industry has been reformed. In the past two years, online education has developed rapidly. The combination of the Internet and education enables students to study online at any time, no longer relying on the time and place requirements in traditional education. However, with the rapid development of online education, many problems have gradually emerged. In online education, with a large amount of knowledge and question banks, students are faced with a large number of choices. Therefore, positioning and tracking the knowledge level of students and realizing personalized online education have become the main problems facing the moment. Based on this, this study integrates deep learning and knowledge tracking technology to build a traditional cultural network online education model, aiming at accurately positioning students’ knowledge levels and recommending personalized question banks. The experimental results show that the average AUC of the model proposed in this study is 0.781, and the average accuracy rate is 0.886, which is significantly better than other online education models. Through the combination of deep learning and knowledge tracking technology, the research successfully provides a new and efficient model for personalized learning in the field of online education, which is of great guiding value for promoting further innovation and development of online education. In addition, the research also provides practical solution strategies for related fields, which have obvious practical significance and popularization value.

Study on the influence of online course design on Students’ online learning satisfaction -- The moderating effect of MOOC platform quality

Abstract The online education model has become an important form of integrated innovation and development of colleges and universities, and how to improve students’ online learning satisfaction through online course design has become a key indicator for evaluating online education. Based on 265 student sample survey data, this paper empirically studies the mechanism of influence of online course design on students’ online learning satisfaction and examines the mediating role of online interaction and the moderating effect of MOOC platform quality. The results show that: Online course design positively affects students’ online learning satisfaction; Online interaction plays a partial mediating role between online course design and online learning satisfaction; The quality of MOOC platform positively moderates the relationship between online course design and online interaction; On this basis, the article puts forward corresponding teaching suggestions, to provide theoretical basis for the development of online education.

An Online Pediatric Palliative Care Education and Mentoring (Project ECHO) in Nepal: A Program Implementation Case Study and Assessment of Changes in Healthcare Providers' Knowledge, Confidence, and Attitudes.

The goal of this implementation study was to describe the implementation and evaluation of the impact of an online pediatric palliative care training program in Nepal, using the Project ECHO model. The study used mixed methods, including a program case study describing the online learning program and before-and-after surveys of program participants, assessing learning through changes in knowledge, comfort, and attitudes. An end-of-program survey was used to evaluate participants' overall experiences with the learning program and use of the learning resources. A literature review, stakeholder surveys, and expert input informed the design of the intervention. The course used the Project ECHO model of online education, with modifications based on the leadership team's previous ECHO experiences and local stakeholder input. The intervention occurred over 9 months, with 22 online teaching sessions. Each session consisted of a didactic lecture, case presentation, and interactive discussion with expert clinical teachers. Fifty-five clinicians in Nepal participated, including physicians (47%), nurses (44%), and psychotherapists (5%). Clinicians reported improvements in knowledge, skills, and attitudes after program participation. Program acceptability scores were high, with 93% of participants reporting that the course provided effective learning. Project ECHO can be successfully implemented to deliver continuing professional development in Nepal. Delivering palliative care education online using the Project ECHO model, leads to improved knowledge, skills, and attitudes for clinicians. Project ECHO suggests an innovative solution which can provide training and support to clinicians in settings where educational opportunities in palliative care are limited.

MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course, and it refers to a model of online education that allows for the widespread distribution of educational content to a large number of learners over the internet. The MOOC model has gained popularity for its accessibility, flexibility, and ability to reach a global audience. It has also been used by institutions and organizations for corporate training and professional development. However, it is worth noting that while MOOCs offer many advantages, they also come with challenges, such as issues related to completion rates and the need for self-discipline in self-paced courses.
 In this research, the researchers explored the flipped classroom as the most important part of blended MOOC model. The aim of this research is to examine the potential effects of flipped classroom instruction on students’ learning. The research included all (35) third-year students of the EMU Department of Foreign Language Education. Both quantitative and qualitative (mixed) approaches were used as a methodology. According to the findings, after experiencing the flipped classroom experience, the students explained that they felt more ready for their lessons because they already had some preparation at home. Additionally, students reported that they felt more confident about the subject in general and that they were more intellectually prepared to ask socratic-type questions in their classes.

Design of online education model based on migratory bird algorithm under the concept of sustainable development

Abstract The emergence of a new industrial form, online education, has opened up an efficient and convenient learning channel for people. In this paper, the basic process and algorithmic ideas of the migratory bird algorithm are investigated, and the optimization is carried out by using a simulated annealing method for its problem of finding the optimal global solution too slowly, adding the inner loop of SA at each generation of particle swarm update, and improving the fitness value function and update criterion of each particle in the particle swarm based on the outer loop. Then, the online education model of this paper is designed based on the SA-PSO algorithm. For the evaluation of interaction quality, this model obtains a comprehensive evaluation index of 0.856, which is 10.24% higher than New Oriental and 18.65% higher than NetEase Cloud Classroom. In terms of service quality, the overall evaluation index of this model is 8.73% higher than that of New Oriental and 20.35% higher than NetEase Cloud Classrooms. In terms of system quality, the overall evaluation index of this model is 4.31% higher than that of New Oriental and 18.69% higher than NetEase Cloud Classrooms. This study proposes rationalized improvement strategies for the limitations of the existing online education model, and the model based on the SA-PSO algorithm helps to promote the quality of online education.

Online educational video engagement prediction based on dynamic graph neural networks

PurposeWith the continuous growth of online education, the quality issue of online educational videos has become increasingly prominent, causing students in online learning to face the dilemma of knowledge confusion. The existing mechanisms for controlling the quality of online educational videos suffer from subjectivity and low timeliness. Monitoring the quality of online educational videos involves analyzing metadata features and log data, which is an important aspect. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, deep learning techniques with strong predictive capabilities can provide new methods for predicting the quality of online educational videos, effectively overcoming the shortcomings of existing methods. The purpose of this study is to find a deep neural network that can model the dynamic and static features of the video itself, as well as the relationships between videos, to achieve dynamic monitoring of the quality of online educational videos.Design/methodology/approachThe quality of a video cannot be directly measured. According to previous research, the authors use engagement to represent the level of video quality. Engagement is the normalized participation time, which represents the degree to which learners tend to participate in the video. Based on existing public data sets, this study designs an online educational video engagement prediction model based on dynamic graph neural networks (DGNNs). The model is trained based on the video’s static features and dynamic features generated after its release by constructing dynamic graph data. The model includes a spatiotemporal feature extraction layer composed of DGNNs, which can effectively extract the time and space features contained in the video's dynamic graph data. The trained model is used to predict the engagement level of learners with the video on day T after its release, thereby achieving dynamic monitoring of video quality.FindingsModels with spatiotemporal feature extraction layers consisting of four types of DGNNs can accurately predict the engagement level of online educational videos. Of these, the model using the temporal graph convolutional neural network has the smallest prediction error. In dynamic graph construction, using cosine similarity and Euclidean distance functions with reasonable threshold settings can construct a structurally appropriate dynamic graph. In the training of this model, the amount of historical time series data used will affect the model’s predictive performance. The more historical time series data used, the smaller the prediction error of the trained model.Research limitations/implicationsA limitation of this study is that not all video data in the data set was used to construct the dynamic graph due to memory constraints. In addition, the DGNNs used in the spatiotemporal feature extraction layer are relatively conventional.Originality/valueIn this study, the authors propose an online educational video engagement prediction model based on DGNNs, which can achieve the dynamic monitoring of video quality. The model can be applied as part of a video quality monitoring mechanism for various online educational resource platforms.

Students’ perceptions of online learning in non-L1 environments

ABSTRACT The current study aimed to explore the perceptions of Saudi undergraduate students towards online learning during COVID-19. A total of 198 students completed a survey to this end. The results of the survey showed that the three factors referred to as ‘effectiveness of online learning,’ ‘interactivity of online learning’ and ‘counteractive online learning’ explained 46.67% of the variance in results. Additionally, the students showed great appreciation for the flexibility and comfort related to online learning. They also acknowledged that online learning helped improve their academic performance, increase their motivation, share ideas, and interact with peers in groups. However, the students expressed their dissatisfaction with online learning with respect to reduced interaction with the instructor, the increased sense of loneliness and isolation, the inability to cater for the variety of learning styles, and their inability to control learning. The results are interpreted in terms of the existing literature and the Multimodal Model of Online Education.

Evaluation of the virtual field experience training program accompanied with simulation for students who cannot complete clinical practice training during the pandemic process: A retrospective review (Etlik Zübeyde Hanım Gynecology Training and Research Hospital Online Education Model Example)

Bu çalışma 20 Ekim 2020 / 25 Mart 2021 tarihleri arasında uzaktan eğitim kararının verildiği pandemi dönemde saha deneyimi olumsuz etkilenen ebelik bölümü öğrencileri için planlanmıştır. Öğrencilerin öğrenme yaşantılarına ve mesleki becerilerine olumlu yönde katkı sağlamak amaçlanmıştır. Planlanan uygulama sanal eğitim ortamında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Etlik Zübeyde Hanım Kadın Hastalıkları Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi (EZEAH) ve Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi Gülhane Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Ebelik Bölümü işbirliği ile başlatılmıştır. “Simülasyon Eşliğinde Sanal Sınıf Akademisi” adı verilen bu uygulama EZEAH bünyesinde iki üniversitenin Ebelik Bölümü öğrencileri ile farklı zamanlarda çevrim içi olarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıf ebelik bölümü öğrencilerinin eğitim müfredatları esas alınmış, program 5 ana başlık ve 20 alt başlıktan oluşturulmuştur. Her bir program 5 hafta sürmüştür. Programda eğitim yöntemi olarak gerçeğe uygun senaryolar ve vakalar, simülasyon maketleri, eğitici drama ve gerçek klinik ortamda çekilen videolar kullanılmıştır. 20 konu başlığı doğum öncesi dönem %40 (n=8), doğum eylemi ve yönetimi %46 (n=9), doğum sonrası dönem %14(n=3) şeklinde kategorize edilmiştir. Her eğitim sonrasında geri bildirimler sanal ortamda sözel ve yazılı olarak alınmıştır. Program kapsamında toplam 12 eğitimci görev almış, eğitim sonunda ise toplam 200 öğrenciye sanal eğitim ortamında ulaşılmıştır. EZEAH ebelik öğrencilerinin klinik uygulamasına önemli ölçüde destek veren bir kurumdur. Pandemi süreci ile ebelik öğrencilerinin klinik uygulamaları ve kazanımları olumsuz etkilenmiştir. Bu bağlamda hastanemiz ebelik öğrencilerinin eğitim sürecini destekleyerek, çevrim içi ortamda gerçeğe uygun senaryolar eşliğinde sanal interaktif eğitim ortamını oluşturmuştur. Bu dönemde ebelik öğrencilerinin klinik ile buluşması sağlanarak, uygulamayı destekleyen güvenilir ve sürdürülebilir sağlık hizmeti sunumuna katkı sağlayacak bir eğitim modeli geliştirilmiştir.

111 Regional Expansion of a TL1 Program to Serve the 5 State Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho Region

OBJECTIVES/GOALS: The ITHS TL1 program is designed to grow trainees’ competence and knowledge in translational research. Our objective is to expand the program to the 5-state Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WWAMI) region by establishing a TL1 cohort at Montana State University (MSU). METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Interdisciplinary training at the predoctoral level is ideal for preparing the future translational workforce. At this stage in their training, they have developed disciplinary expertise but have not yet narrowed their specializations. By expanding the TL1 program to include both University of Washington (UW) and MSU we are amplifying the robust academic research networks of both institutions, particularly programs in rural health equity, rural and tribal populations, and emerging infectious diseases. Using a collaborative, online educational model we will bring together trainees in a multi directional, joint training effort utilizing existing and emerging collaborations. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: The anticipated outcome is to create a single program by bringing together a cohort of scholars from various disciplines spanning the translational science spectrum, with diverse types of research experience which enables them to learn from each other in a diverse setting. This will allow the program to more effectively grow trainee’s competencies and knowledge in multidisciplinary translational research methodology, as well as build skills in team science and cross-disciplinary communication. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: If successful, the ITHS TL1 program will prepare translational scientists with an awareness of diverse perspectives and contemporary research challenges. This would benefit the 5 state WWAMI region, which covers 27% of the total land mass of the US.
