Civil Society Involvement in Managing the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study of a Large and Congested Urban Community in Bangkok, Thailand.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted Thailand, including urban centers like Bangkok and surrounding areas, highlighting a critical need for effective management within densely populated communities to mitigate its effects. This qualitative study sought to explore community management strategies developed in Khlong Toei, a large, congested urban community in Bangkok, Thailand. Seven in-depth interviews (n=7), six focus groups (n=23), and two brainstorming sessions (n=12) were conducted for this study. Data were collected using Zoom, an online communication platform, and through on-site interviews between August 2021 and March 2022 in the congested urban community of Bangkok, Thailand. The data were analyzed using content analysis. All informants (age range: 20-66 years, female respondents: 73.33%) were recruited by a community leader and the abbot of Saphan Temple, the community waiting area in Khlong Toei. The findings revealed two main themes: (1) Caring people, including two subthemes, and (2) Caring community, including two subthemes. The study's findings provide guiding inputs for management of public fear to prevent emerging or re-emerging infectious pandemics within congested urban communities.

Unveiling the Impact of Communication Network on Engineering Project Team Performance: The Interplay of Centralization and Tie Strength.

Recent research has focused on the impact of communication networks on the performance of construction project teams, attempting empirical exploration from various social network analysis perspectives. However, there is still a significant gap in understanding the variations in performance and the mechanisms for teams using different communication networks. Drawing from organizational learning theory and social network theory, this study, based on the Input-Mediator-Output (IMO) model, explores the effects of the interaction between centralization and tie strength in communication networks on team performance, as well as the mediating mechanisms of knowledge sharing behavior and team resilience performance in engineering project teams. Drawing on classic group communication experiment, we design an online communication and collaboration platform to simulate the execution of a construction engineering project. Finally, data was collected through the communication experiment with 720 participants, and hypotheses were tested using ANOVA and PROCESS. The results indicate that under conditions of weak tie strength, centralized communication networks yield higher performance. Conversely, under conditions of strong tie strength, decentralized communication networks demonstrate superior performance. Furthermore, this study also verifies the mediating role of knowledge sharing behavior and team resilience performance when tie strength is strong. This study focuses on engineering project team, exploring the evolutionary development of knowledge sharing behavior and team resilience performance from the perspective of the interaction of communication network structural characteristics, as well as the paths to enhancing team performance. Our research results highlight the interactive effects of structural indicators and relational indicators of communication networks, revealing the mechanism by which the structure of communication networks impacts team performance. Additionally, from the perspectives of forming and timely adjusting team communication models, and motivating and supporting employee communication behavior, our study provides practical insights for project managers and relevant administrators.

This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of an online communication platform in a flipped
 learning-based, customized modular EPL programming course. To this end, a flipped learning-based
 EPL programming course model utilizing an online communication platform was developed, along
 with preparatory EPL learning module video lectures and materials. Following the application of this
 model to actual classes, its effectiveness was assessed through various methods. The research
 findings are summarized as follows:
 First, the experimental group showed a positive perception of programming education in the
 programming education perception test, with the applied teaching method contributing to this
 positive perception. Learners exhibited positive changes in their sense of achievement, value
 recognition, and continued interest in programming. Moreover, they perceived the effectiveness of
 flipped learning and online communication positively.
 Second, in the programming difficulty perception test, the teaching method applied to the
 experimental group did not significantly influence the perception of difficulty in programming.
 Learners reported difficulties in various aspects of programming (such as problem analysis,
 abstraction, coding, and debugging), which appeared to correlate with the frequency of practical
 exercises and the level of self-directed activities.
 Third, in the evaluation of the project assignments, the experimental group scored higher than the
 comparison group, indicating that the teaching method applied to the experimental group positively
 influenced learners' programming capabilities. The project assignments, involving practical exercises,
 played an essential role in enhancing creativity and problem-solving skills.
 Fourth, an analysis of students' reflections indicated that flipped learning increased self-directed
 learning and responsibility. The online communication platform motivated learning, enhanced
 participation, and promoted interaction and collaboration. However, some students pointed out that
 online communication tended to become overly formulaic and mechanical, potentially undermining
 the authenticity and significance of communication.

Baristax: The Coffee Selection Recommender Bot

This study aims to develop a prototype of a coffee recommender bot that uses the expert's knowledge to give its users a standardised suggestion based on their preferences. This prototype is integrated with Telegram Bot for more accessible and convenient use, as Telegram is safer than any other online communication platform. Furthermore, it uses Google DialogFlow with Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools that enable the chatbot to identify what the users want. Finally, the project is validated on students, mainly from the UiTM Shah Alam campus and a barista, to determine the usefulness and correctness of the prototype chatbot's overall performance. This initiative received evaluations from 45 students and ten baristas. The research intends to be integrated into the company's mobile application, allowing for other functionalities. As a result, coffee enthusiasts may now have customised applications to satisfy their coffee addiction.

Using Online Photovoice to Explore Food Decisions of Families on Low Income: Lessons Learnt During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The method of photovoice has been previously used to effectively engage with socioeconomically disadvantaged groups and explore their eating behaviours. In this methodological article, we draw on our experiences from using photovoice through online interviews with families on low income about their food decisions. A purposive recruitment approach targeted parents of children 2-17years old who lived on a tight budget across the island of Ireland. Participants provided demographic information and were invited to take photographs of food-related decisions and activities for 1 week during the COVID-19 lockdown. The photographs were then discussed through an online communication platform to generate qualitative data. A total of 28 parents participated in the photo-elicited interviews and shared a total of 642 photographs of factors that influenced their food decisions. Following the interviews, the researchers documented their reflections which focused on (1) participants' engagement with the online photo-elicitation and (2) practical aspects around participant consent and data safety. The participants in our study engaged well with the online photovoice method and shared a variety of photos which provided ample material to facilitate the conversations around their food environment and its impact on their food decisions. Our experiences can provide novel insights into using photovoice in a virtual environment and useful considerations around ethics and data collection for researchers who work with socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. Photo-elicited interviews offer an engaging and flexible data collection technique that can highlight issues informing future priorities of healthcare policy.

The Construction of English Teaching Resource Library in Universities Based on Mathematical and Statistical Multiple Regression Model

Abstract This research creates an online communication platform using a mathematical statistics multiple regression model to modify the online lesson plan. The irregular variables in the resource base data are precisely measured, and the regularity of the variables is discovered using mathematical statistics. To improve the teaching resource base, the partial derivatives of the sum of squares are found, the regression values are obtained, and the dispersion of the regression values are all obtained using the maximum likelihood estimation approach. Learning English using the developed instructional resource base increased average score by 1.7 points. It demonstrates how the created teaching resource base for English in colleges and universities is effectively used and how multiple linear regression causes the independent and dependent variables to correlate nicely.

Exploring perceptions of digital technology and digital skills among newly registered nurses and clinical managers.

Digital technology has an increasing role in healthcare, but staff lack opportunities to develop their digital skills and there is a lack of research on education and training in digital technology for staff. To explore nurses' perceptions of the use of digital technology in their practice and to identify the digital skills required by newly registered nurses to work in a digitally enabled environment. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted on an online communication platform with nine participants - four newly registered nurses and five senior nurses working in clinical and/or management roles. Inductive thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. Several barriers and facilitators to the use of digital technology were identified, including around infrastructure, time, skills, training, support, leadership, familiarity and confidence. The use of digital technology may enhance care consistency and increase patient autonomy, but it may also erode nurse-patient relationships. Digital technology can enhance patient care but organisational barriers, notably in relation to digital literacy training, need to be addressed for nurses to fully adopt it.

Design and implementation of ParkinsonAKTIV: an interventional study to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel online platform to guide quickcard-based treatment decisions

IntroductionPatients with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) require an all-encompassing and individualized care including pharmacological as well as non-pharmacological treatment approaches, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech and swallowing therapy. ParkinsonAKTIV is an innovative, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive approach to guide this non-pharmacological PD treatment in northwestern Germany. Its online communication platform called JamesAKTIV has been developed to enhance and standardize PD healthcare professionals’ communication. The implementation of ParkinsonAKTIV and JamesAKTIV is accompanied through a detailed process evaluation and to gather evidence on the impact on patient-related outcomes, such as health-related quality of life and healthcare costs for people with PD through an effectiveness evaluation.MethodsThe study design contains two parts: (1) first, a quantitative effectiveness evaluation is conducted utilizing a prospective quasi-experimental approach with a control group which examines PD patient’s health-related quality of life and physician-assessed PD patient’s health status (Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale). Moreover, a health economic evaluation of the ParkinsonAKTIV intervention is conducted using patient-reported outcomes and cost data as well as routine data from a statutory health insurance. (2) Second, a mixed-methods process evaluation among healthcare professionals, which examines the feasibility and potential barriers and facilitators of ParkinsonAKTIV for routine care, is performed. Quantitative results from a social network analysis and a survey among healthcare professionals will be triangulated with data from qualitative stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions.PerspectiveFindings are expected to provide evidence of an increase in quality of life of patients with PD, less severe PD symptoms, and a better ability to participate in activities of daily living. ParkinsonAKTIV has the potential of increasing PD patients’ quality of care through sufficient and more tailored prescription of non-pharmacological therapies. It is anticipated that ParkinsonAKTIV will improve communication among health professionals. Results from the ParkinsonAKTIV study will provide first practice-oriented evidence and a roadmap for implementation of an online tool for a comprehensive, multidisciplinary care PD network for patients and their caregivers in routine care in Germany.Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov: registration number NCT05251298 (retrospectively registered: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/record/NCT05251298).

Action recognition based on multimode fusion for VR online platform.

The current popular online communication platforms can convey information only in the form of text, voice, pictures, and other electronic means. The richness and reliability of information is not comparable to traditional face-to-face communication. The use of virtual reality (VR) technology for online communication is a viable alternative to face-to-face communication. In the current VR online communication platform, users are in a virtual world in the form of avatars, which can achieve "face-to-face" communication to a certain extent. However, the actions of the avatar do not follow the user, which makes the communication process less realistic. Decision-makers need to make decisions based on the behavior of VR users, but there are no effective methods for action data collection in VR environments. In our work, three modalities of nine actions from VR users are collected using a virtual reality head-mounted display (VR HMD) built-in sensors, RGB cameras and human pose estimation. Using these data and advanced multimodal fusion action recognition networks, we obtained a high accuracy action recognition model. In addition, we take advantage of the VR HMD to collect 3D position data and design a 2D key point augmentation scheme for VR users. Using the augmented 2D key point data and VR HMD sensor data, we can train action recognition models with high accuracy and strong stability. In data collection and experimental work, we focus our research on classroom scenes, and the results can be extended to other scenes.

Research on the Development of WeChat Channels under the Background of Short Video

The improvement of 5G network speed has laid the foundation for the generation of short video platforms. With the help of big data, short videos can be more accurate to push the content of interest to customers. As a veteran Chinese Internet giant Tencent, in order to cater to today's fast-rising short video market, Tencent launched "WeChat Channels" to participate in the competition in the short video market. In just two years, the latest data shows that Tencent's WeChat Channel has been able to compete with Tiktok and Kwai. The authors have studied and discussed why the Tencent WeChat Channels can grow so fast in such a short period of time, and what are the implications for those who want to join the industry later. The authors analyze the business model of Wechat Channels through the network effect of short video platforms and positive feedback loops, use SWOT to analyze the competitiveness of WeChat Channels, and analyze the differentiation strategies. Through research, the authors found that the WeChat Channels itself is in the powerful online communication platform "WeChat" ecology, and the natural customer acquisition channel enables the Wechat Channels to quickly complete the original accumulation of basic customers in the early stage, and the unique push mechanism within the circle of friends allows Video account customer stickiness and higher video quality. Therefore, these two important factors have led to the result that the video account has gradually formed its own closed-loop live broadcast business.

Medical procedures initiative from simulation laboratory to medical wards

Historically, attaining medical procedural competency during training has been challenging [1–3]. At a small district general hospital, initiatives were implemented to address these mandatory curriculum components. 1) Ten skill-sessions were organized, to encompass all mandatory procedures such as skills in central venous catheter, chest drain, ascitic drain, lumbar puncture, DC cardioversion, pacing, and interosseous access. Doctors, advanced clinical and nurse practitioners were invited to attend a face-to-face procedure session. Manikins alongside medical procedure toolkits were provided to assist in simulation training. Pre- and post-Likert Scale questionnaire was used to assess skill-specific confidence levels. 2) A specific WhatsApp group was used to alert doctors of procedural training opportunities within the hospital. Terms of reference and clear clinical governance guidance were provided prior to sign-up. To assess the effectiveness of this method, a questionnaire was distributed amongst the users. Thirty-eight professionals in training attended the sessions. The cumulative rating of all skills revealed an improvement in skill confidence from 15% to 80%. This was most marked in the interosseous access (17% to 100%) and abdominal paracentesis (27% to 100%). However, aptitude in central venous catheter was identified as having the lowest confidence skill level both pre-and post-sessions (0% to 60%). 86% of trainees found the WhatsApp group to be effective or very effective to communicate procedural training opportunities within the hospital. Within six-months, bedside training in DC cardioversion, ascitic drains, interosseous access, pleural aspiration, and drains were achieved. The training sessions improved skill-specific confidence. Equally, the more challenging procedural skills were identified for more training. Further plans for this Quality Improvement Programme will include utilizing the hospital’s online communication platform, organizing procedure-specific human factors teaching, and extending training sessions to consultants to evidence the upkeep of procedural competency. From Delfi to Sanchez – when can an online communication platform be responsible for third-party comments? An analysis of the practice of the ECtHR and some reflections on the Digital Services Act

ABSTRACT While social media services offer a useful platform for obtaining information as well as presenting and commenting on opinions, people can still be silenced by fear of hate speech and insults on the Internet. As a result, the expanded freedom of expression can also reduce the range of opinions and information. This article identifies and analyses the conditions under which online communication platform administrators can be held liable for user-generated content. The focus is on the criteria laid down by the ECtHR in recent cases. The outcome is that liability is exceptional, arising mainly in cases of inciting hatred and violence. Although the Digital Services Act, with its notice-and-action mechanism, offers a cheaper, faster, and often more effective way of reducing insulting and defamatory speech than court proceedings, the impact of the mechanism on freedom of expression and freedom to conduct business must be considered.

The Impact of Covid-19: A Literature Review on the Challenges in E-Learning

The pandemic of Covid-19 has compelled numerous companies worldwide to use several growing online communication platform technologies fully. Educational institutions are among the organizations that have urged students and educators to communicate through a variety of online communication platforms in order to maintain an ongoing educational process. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has created challenges for the worldwide education sector when using these expanding technologies. The challenges were highlighted in many recent studies. However, compared with other developing countries, fewer studies were conducted in Malaysia. This study aimed to identify the challenges faced by educators and learners in online learning impacted by Covid-19 through a literature review. The challenges mentioned are lack of facilities, lack of social interaction among students and educators, poor internet connection, motivation issues, assessment and evaluation process. This literature review implies that they could facilitate relevant authorities such as educational institution administrators, officers serving the Ministry of Higher Education and policymakers in designing effective measures to tackle the challenges.

Online lessons of human anatomy: Experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The social distancing measures necessitated by the COVID‐19 pandemic have resulted in the migration of human anatomy lessons to virtual platforms. Even student communities have had to relocate online. The virtual replacement of visual–spatial and social elements, essential for studying anatomy, has posed particular challenges for educators. Our department used Microsoft Teams, an online communication platform, in conjunction with Visible Body, a 3D anatomical modeling program, EdiErmes online resources, and Leica Acquire for teaching microscopic anatomy. We delivered about 160 h of both synchronous and asynchronous lessons for students on the medical degree program per academic year. In this study, we compare face‐to‐face and distance teaching in order to define these different approaches better and to evaluate the final student scores. The aim is to debate the relevance of distance learning pedagogy to the design of new online anatomy teaching courses and the development of online learning. Analysis of the final scores showed that anatomy examinations after the online course had a statistically significantly higher average value than those obtained at the end of the face‐to‐face course. The experience at the University of Genoa shows that distance learning in the teaching of human anatomy was perceived by most students as useful and positive. Distance learning can be an effective support for anatomy teaching, facilitating a different mode of learning in which lessons and study are more sensitive to the individual's schedule and needs. Of course, we should not and cannot exclude face‐to‐face teaching.

Design and Implementation of Human-Computer Interface for Participatory Art Video Development Platform Based on Interactive Non-linear Algorithm.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is innovatively combined with participatory video for artistic creation and communication to improve the enthusiasm of art lovers for artistic creation and communication and expand the application range of AI technology. First, the interactive framework of interactive participation video is proposed based on the analysis of the related literature of interactive non-linear video. Then, a questionnaire is designed accordingly to analyze the social needs of people on art social platforms. According to the survey results, the participatory art video online communication platform is designed and preliminarily realized. Finally, a participant video eye movement control experiment is conducted to test the performance of the participatory art video development platform. Meanwhile, the platform is evaluated through field research from two aspects of test efficiency and user experience. The results show that the operation time of the participatory art video development platform is much shorter than that of the control group. It takes only approximately 15 s to complete the annotation operation with low SD, indicating that the system performance is stable. The accuracy of the platform also reaches 100%.

ЛІНГВОСЕМАНТИЧНІ ОСОБЛИВОСТІ КОМУНІКАТИВНОЇ МОДЕЛІ ОНЛАЙН-СПІЛКУВАННЯ У ПЕРІОД ВАКЦИНАЦІЇ НАСЕЛЕННЯ

The paper focuses on the concept of cognitive-perceptual and behavioral model of communication. For semantic analysis, the news feeds of the online communication platform Reddit regarding the outcome of the pandemic – vaccination of the population – have been singled out as a linguistic material. Each post of news items has been previously thoroughly interpreted and analyzed. Such singling out of language material has been carried out with the help of linguistically obvious (explicit) and hidden (implicit) linguistic markers to denote certain semantic groups based on linguistic-semantic interpretation and analysis of the Reddit vaccination posts. As a result of the analysis, two communicative cognitive-perceptual and behavioral models of online communication within Reddit during the period of vaccination of the population have been studied. The first cognitive-perceptual and behavioral model – the general attitude towards vaccination, as well as the second one – the impact of vaccination on the population – have been considered. These models will further serve as a research basis of the pattern for social communicative approach concerning online Reddit discussions as both of them are based on the cognitive conceptualization notion referring to communication perception and behavior in certain communicative situations. To confirm the results of linguistic-semantic analysis, automatic software for counting words and providing concise linguistic information has been applied.

Supporting National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups in the WHO European Region in developing national COVID-19 vaccination recommendations through online communication platform

National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups are groups of multi-disciplinary experts that provide scientific advice to policy makers to enable them to make informed immunization policy and programme decisions. NITAGs faced challengesusing their routine approach to develop recommendations for COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic. In response, the WHORegional Office for Europe (Regional Office), with the support of theRobert Koch Institute, developedan innovative approach of a series of webinars, provision of materials, and remote technical assistance to address these challenges. Polls conducted during webinars were used to tailor future webinars and evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions. According to poll results, 76% of participants found the webinars and resources shared very useful in their work on COVID-19 vaccination.The Regional Office plans to build further upon the scope of online communication and establish a regional online platform for NITAGs to further support NITAGs and build capacity.

A Case Study of the Diachronic Development of Second Language Grammatical Competence Based on Computer-mediated Negotiated Interaction

The emergence of computer-mediated real-time communication platform provides second language learners with the opportunity to communicate with the target language through the network. This empirical study is based on the English text-based data of online store learners in four periods of real-time online communication platform to explore the grammatical development of interlanguage of middle-level English learners in computer-mediated real-time interactive negotiation. Corpus analysis shows that learners' accuracy of L2 grammatical forms has been improved, with obvious changes in the first and second periods, but no significant changes in their grammatical competence in the later periods. The frequency of using compound sentences is low, and it shows a downward trend in the later stages. The research shows that computer-mediated real-time communication promotes learners' second language acquisition to a certain extent, but the communicative context and purpose affect its further improvement of interlanguage grammar.

Exploring the Influence of Social Media Usage for Academic Purposes Using a Partial Least Squares Approach

Social media applications have been increasingly gaining significant attention from online education and training platforms. Social networking tools provide multiple advantages for communicating, exchanging opinions, and discussing specific issues. Social media also helps to improve the processes of teaching and learning through sharing educational programs. In this study, we used a quantitative research technique based on the partial least-squares (PLS) linear regression method to determine the influence of using social media as an online discussion and communication platform for academic purposes by assessing the relationships among the skills obtained through social media, the usage of social media, and the purpose of social media. A total of 200 students participated in this study (88% female and 12% males), and a purposive sampling technique was used to select a suitable population for the study. The results show that 61.5% of the participants use the web daily for more than five hours, mainly for social communication (meaningful dialog and discussion skills) and entertainment. The students agreed that social media develops their creative thinking, but it has no positive impact on their academic performance.

Exploring the Impact of Transformation to Fully Online Learning During COVID-19 on Malaysian University Students’ Academic Life and Performance

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many organizations in the world to fully utilize variety of emerging online communication platform technologies. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are among these organizations that obliged students and instructors to use different online communication platforms to insure uninterrupted education process. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has generated many considerable challenges for the global higher education community while using such emerging technologies. The purpose of this study is to analyze university student’s perceptions on the challenges and hurdles they face during the Covid-19 pandemic when they use IT platform applications for online learning activities. This research used mixed methods research with main emphasis on qualitative research, supported by literature content analysis techniques. The data set for this study was collected during peak time of pandemic period between 16<sup>th</sup> of May 2020 to 5<sup>th</sup> of Jun 2020. Based on the descriptive analysis using SPSS and the analyzed results using NVivo12 for the data that was collected from 486 students from different universities in Malaysia, students disclosed various obstacles they encounter when they use IT platform applications for online learning. These obstacles are summarized as follows: (1) Work and information overload received from instructors through online learning platforms (2) Technical challenges related to students’ lack of affordability for having online learning support facilities (3) Personal health challenges related to stress and anxiety problems.
