This article presents an algorithm for automatically generating readable one-line diagrams of radial distribution feeders. As readability is a subjective view, we propose a set of specifications for the drawing (aesthetic criteria) that ensures a good visualization of distribution systems. The network data of distribution systems that is generally available does not contain any information regarding node locations. Therefore, the proposed algorithm assumes that only the identity of the terminal nodes of all the edges are known. The algorithm automatically determines node positions such that the aesthetic criteria proposed here satisfied. The algorithm is illustrated with a detailed example. Results of application of the algorithm on practical feeders are provided to demonstrate its effectiveness.
