An individualised navigation's assistance approach: application and evaluation with the HiPPY prototype

We describe how to set-up an adaptive hypermedia supporting a fine grain learning resources called epistemes. This epistemic HyPermedia to learn PYthon language (HiPPY) is based on a graph of epistemes, a dynamic navigation and an individualised epistemic diagnosis. The process of usage analysis should enclose, building resources and pathways, installation of indicators from traces and mining educational trends. As a case study, we apply this process to integrate the HiPPY tool into the France-IOI platform. France-International Olympiads in Informatics (IOI) non-profit association is to prepare French teenagers for IOI. We used data mining algorithms and techniques to study trajectories and characterise solving process. We give first highlights about eventual strategies in relation with the use of the HiPPY graph. We also provide original elements concerning connecting effective traces and declarative ones to confirm or invalidate several hypotheses taking care of privacy issues.

Some Ways to Improve Olympiads in Informatics

The paper describes some possible ways how to improve Olympiads in Informatics. Tasks in Olympiads are small models of programming tasks in software industry and in the limited amount of competition time contestants need to complete several software production phases - coding, testing and debugging. Currently, only coding effort is adequately graded, but grading of other activities may be improved. Ways to involve contestants in overall testing process are investigated and ways to improve solution debugging process are described. Possible scoring schemas are discussed. In International Olympiads tasks with real numbers are quite rare. Possible reasons are investigated and a way how to return such tasks back to competition arena is suggested.

Olympiads in informatics: problems from the mathematical approach

The paper deals with the problems delivered at the National Olympiads in Informatics from the mathemat­ical approach. Over 300 of problems have been analyzed, they were classified, and statistical analysis of each group was submitted. It was found that in Lithuanian Olympiads in Informatics the problems bound with graphs dominates. These problems usually are solved implementing different kind of methods.

It is not an easy task to create a challenging problem for the Olympiads in Informatics. The problem should satisfy many requirements. The paper tries to reveal possible stages of development which lead from the original idea to the final formulation of the problem. The computational geometry task Rectangles, used in Baltic Olympiad in Informatics' 2004 is taken as an example.

Algoritmavimo uždavinių sprendimo metodų bei sudėtingumo analizė Lietuvos informatikos olimpiadose

Lithuanian Olympiads in Informatics are being organized since 1990. Each Olympiad consists of three rounds. The final (national) one is divided into two parts, there are also elder and younger divisions. Each year there are supplied a lot of tasks. The paper deals with algorithmic problems of all the Lithuanian olympiads of school students and all the rounds from the point of view of their methods of solution and complexity (from the student’s point of view).This kind of analysis will be useful for systematic developing of teaching programming and for the selecting problem set for the national Olympiads in the future.
