The Fanatical Comments of NCT (Neo Culture Technology) Fans in Instagram and Twitter Pragmatic Analysis

This study discusses the different ways of communicating between fanatical fans and ordinary NCT ​​fans and discusses the speech acts used. Fanaticism is always present in every activity or in every community, this research is a study of the paragmatic elements of speech acts seen from the illocutionary locutionary and perlocutionary using the theory of Stephen C. Levinson. This study aims to analyze the speech acts used by fanatic fans and ordinary fans of NCT (Neo Culture Technology). This research was conducted using a qualitative research method. The data analysis method in this study was carried out by classifying the comments on Instagram and Twitter social media. The data subjects are comments from fans from social media Instagram and NCT Dream's official twitter from posts posted on May 10 to May 12, 2022. The results show that there are 27 findings at the locutionary form of fanatical fan comments 17 ordinary fans 10, 33 illocutionary fan commentary form 19 ordinary fans 14, 24 perlocutionary fan commentary form 19 ordinary fans 6. It can be concluded that the dominant speech act used is illocutionary and is dominated by NCT ​​(Neo Culture Technology) fanatical fans.

Perceived Responses of International Tourists to Transportation and Tourism Services During Typhoons Faxai and Hagibis in Japan

There is a limited understanding on the information-seeking behavior of international tourists during disaster response scenarios due to the lack of empirical studies on crisis communication in Japan. This study clarifies the topics generated from both international tourists and official Twitter accounts by applying the embedding Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) topic model and examines the temporal sentiment changes toward transportation and tourism using the sentiment scores obtained from topic-based Valence Aware Dictionary and sEntiment Reasoner (VADER) sentiment analysis during disasters. A case study was conducted using Twitter data on Typhoons Faxai and Hagibis, which struck Japan in 2019. This study found differences in the topics generated among international tourists and officials in response and a continuous negative sentiment toward specific transportation services. The managerial implications of these findings regarding the use of social media in crisis communication in tourism are also discussed.

Impoliteness Strategies of the Hate Comments on Twitter

This study aims to determine the Impoliteness Strategies of the Hate Comments on Twitter. This study was compiled using a qualitative descriptive research method. Data from hate comments made by netizens in response to the post of the son of the Indonesian president in the comments column of the official Twitter account belonging to Gibran Rakabuming Raka and data Sources from the official Twitter account of the vice presidential candidate. The number of data in this study is 50 data. The Instrument of Collecting Data uses Observation and Documentation and the method of collecting data uses searching, reading, choosing, capturing, and printing. The data was analyzed using the Formula P=F/N x100. From the research that has been done, it was found that there is a difference in the percentage between the five types of impoliteness strategies. In the bald on record, type 4 hate comment data were found with a percentage of 8%, positive impoliteness is 6 hate comment data with a percentage of 12%, negative impoliteness is 6 hate comment data with a percentage of 12%, sarcasm or mock impoliteness is 34 hate comment data with a percentage of 68%, and withhold impoliteness is 0 hate comment data with a percentage of 0%. So, it can be concluded that the most dominant type the impoliteness strategies in the results is sarcasm or mock impoliteness with a percentage of 68% in the thesis title Impoliteness Strategies of the Hate Comments on Twitter.

PUBLIC RESPONSES TO THE CUSTOMS OFFICIAL TWITTER ACCOUNT'S POSTS: PRAGMATIC APPROACH

The article explores the public's response to Indonesia’s Customs official Twitter account. The research uses a qualitative approach, focusing on content analysis methods. This research also utilizing the speech act theory, with a focus on illocutionary acts. The research data was collected by screenshots of 25 responses on Twitter. The analysis revealed that the responses were predominantly directive acts (8 responses), followed by expressive acts (6), declarative acts (5), representative acts (4), and commissive acts (2). The predominance of directive acts indicates that many responses aimed to influence others to boycott the customs agency, reflecting a strong public sentiment against the institution. This study also highlights the critical nature of social media interactions with government agencies and underlines the need for improved public engagement strategies. We hoping the results of this research can provide deeper understanding into the dynamics of communication between government institutions and the public via social media and its implications for public acceptance and perception.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Practices Among Select Contractors: Insights from Social Media Analysis and Interviews

ABSTRACT This study provides a snapshot of DEI practices of construction contractors listed in the “ENR Top 400 contractors” list from a major social event perspective in the United States: Black Lives Matter (BLM). A three-step mixed-method approach was employed: publicly available statements on the contractors’ websites were analyzed, their official Twitter (now called “X”) accounts were examined using sentiment analysis, and structured interviews were conducted with a subset of the contractors’ DEI representatives. The results indicate that many companies may hesitate to support BLM publicly due to the political polarization surrounding the movement. While derived from a specific subset, the interview results also revealed that select contractors implement DEI practices within different organizational levels and are supported by high-ranking executives, which offers a foundation for further exploration. This study contributes to the construction industry by investigating the racial and cultural DEI practices of construction contractors in the U.S. and proposing practices that these companies can adopt to mitigate the politicized and polarizing effects of their commitment to DEI. These practices include bottom-up engagement programs with the workforce, open discussions with stakeholders, clearly communicating the purpose of their DEI commitments, and collaborating with organizations that facilitate a broader impact of DEI.

Personal branding of new political parties in Indonesia: PSI, Perindo, and Gelora

In this digital era, social media has become a very effective tool for candidates and political parties to communicate, influence voters, and promote their messages. The tight world of politics requires political parties to create personal branding that differentiates them from other political parties. This research aims to explore in-depth the strategies for building personal branding carried out by new Indonesian political parties on social media. The researcher focused on three new political parties active on social media, namely the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo), and the Indonesian People's Wave Party (Gelora). This research analyses the official Twitter accounts of the three parties from September 2020 to June 2023. The choice of this period is essential to maintaining data consistency and ensuring that the analysis can find strategies for building personal branding without interference from intense campaign activities. This research uses qualitative methods with a Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA) approach. NVivo12 plus software was used to help visualise the data. This research shows that PSI is building its personal branding using a millennial-style approach, Perindo is focusing on welfare issues, and Gelora Party is relying on experienced senior figures. Overall, this research emphasises that an effective personal branding strategy requires a deep understanding of the target audience, selecting relevant issues, and using credible figures.

“Ireland for the Irish”

This article argues that the political campaigning on Twitter of two far-right parties during the 2020 Irish General Election worked to disseminate far-right populist tendencies through their discursive use of conservative geopolitical imaginaries of Ireland. The material harvested for this study consists of 631 original tweets posted by the official Twitter accounts of The National Party and the Irish Freedom Party during the period of January 14 – February 8 2020. Using thematic analysis, this article argues that much of the Twitter content of these two parties centred around three central themes: anti-establishment, anti-immigration, and evoking Irish history. Uniquely, permeating all four themes of the political parties’ accounts are discourses of “patriotism” which configure much of their social media rhetoric as part of an “Ireland for the Irish” geopolitical imaginary. From this analysis, we argue that the National Party and Irish Freedom Party not only disseminated their nationally-specific far-right agendas in their tweets during the 2020 General Election, but that they did so through using geopolitical imaginaries and rhetoric that are reminiscent of far-right populist movements more broadly across Europe and the US in order to rationalise their movement and legitimise their conservative geopolitical imaginaries of Ireland.

The Multi-discourse Fight of COVID-19 Vaccine in the World of Digital Platforms: Rethinking Popularity of Anti-intellectualism

Abstract This study explored how government institutions used digital platforms to enhance knowledge and share scientific information regarding the development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines by drawing samples from official Twitter accounts in five different countries that were front-runners in vaccine manufacturing. Through content analysis, we selected a total of 243 tweets with 4,678 comments from the five Twitter accounts, and data were categorized into two sets for analysis, the first stage being to assign sentiment scores to all the collected comments from tweets to determine their positivity, negativity, and neutrality. Secondly, we analyzed themes derived from comments and established through the themes that geopolitics has exacerbated the anti-intellectualist logic of viewing science as impractical for the control and prevention of the pandemic leading to the domination of irrational thinking towards vaccine efficacy, the origin of COVID-19, and the undermining of the global health governance on COVID-19 control and management.

DAMPAK MEDIA SOSIAL TERHADAP PURCHASE INTENTION ITEM VIRTUAL PADA GAME ONLINE GENSHIN IMPACT

Genshin Impact quickly rose to fame as one of the most played mobile games in the world after gaining widespread recognition. Many gamers, especially those who are truly dedicated to gaming, have engaged in this practice of purchasing virtual goods. The main objective of this research is to measure the impact of Twitter as a social media platform on interest in purchasing in-game products in the Genshin Impact video game. Using IBM SPSS version 26, this research uses quantitative analysis tools. One hundred people participated in this research by filling out a questionnaire sent to them via Direct Message (DM) by the official Twitter account @GenshinImpact. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, and the number of samples was 100. A series of tests, including validity and reliability tests as well as statistical analysis and coefficient of determination, were used to analyze the data. This research found that the intention to purchase virtual goods (Y) was influenced positively and significantly by the social media variable (X). GOING BEYOND GEO-CULTURAL PROXIMITIES: DISCOVERY OF CULTURE PATTERNS AND MALAYSIAN BTS FANDOM

The recent global success of K-pop can be attributed to innovative communication strategies, characterized as fan-based, new media- driven, transnational flow approaches reaching out to fans. This study analyzes textual communication and interactions within the online communication of BTS’ fans through Malaysia’s ARMY official Twitter account @BTSMY_ARMY. It also aims to discover fandom activities emerging from this online communication. Through virtual ethnography and quantitative content analysis of 401 tweets, this research identified five distinct cultural patterns that unite Malaysian BTS fans: 1) Fan Account and Fandom Culture, 2) Streaming Parties and Charting Activities, 3) Creation of Fanart and Graphic Edits, 4) Bilingual Communication and 5) Fan Projects and Supportive Initiatives. It can be concluded that these culture patterns are used as a basis for online interaction, engagement, and knowledge sharing among Malaysian BTS fandom, despite linguistic and cultural differences, transcending geographical divides and going beyond geo-cultural proximities.

THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN COMMUNICATINGENVIRONMENTAL GOVERNANCE: A REVIEW OF TWO SOCIALMEDIA PLATFORMS IN SOUTH AFRICA AND KENYA.

Recent environmental disasters happening all around the world, particularly in Africa, have given rise to the need for ways to protect and preserve the environment. However, one of the ways to achieve this is via accurate dissemination of information regarding climate change to the citizens as information is crucial to action. This study examines the trends in the dissemination of information to the public regarding climate change and environmental preservation. Through a critical evaluation of the exchange and dissemination of information, via social media, between the government and the public on two official Twitter handles of environmental agencies in South Africa and Kenya, the paper examines the extent of awareness created by the agencies in respect of climate change and environmental issues. Approaching environmentalism from a communication point of view, the paper argues that much of the efforts/interventions towards addressing climate change will be more effective if the public are duly informed and involved. It intends to do this by establishing the current state of climate change knowledge/awareness in the selected countries, thereby contributing to knowledge on approaches to better environmental preservation/conservation. Thus, in order to ensure participation and achieve sustainable environmental governance in Africa, there is need for adequate and consistent education/awareness on the part of the citizenry

Using Artificial Intelligence to Detect the Relationship Between Social Media Sentiment and Season Ticket Purchases

Sport marketing researchers and practitioners have suggested that sport organizations that effectively engage in social media conversations with fans are likely to influence fan behavior. Few prior studies have empirically examined the relationship between social media engagement and sport product purchases, particularly event tickets. The current study utilized artificial intelligence to examine eight user sentiments on official sport organizations’ Twitter accounts, then determine if those sentiments were related to season ticket sales. Three years of season ticket data were obtained from 62 NCAA Division I men’s basketball teams and utilized in a regression model, which also identified Twitter sentiment scores from 176,439 posts captured from the official Twitter account of those programs. A final model, which included several control variables, explained 65.7% of the variance in season ticket sales, with the lagged sentiments of “joy” (positive) and “sadness” (negative) having a statistically significant relationship with season tickets sold.

Listeners’ Engagement and Interactivity in News Radio Twitter in Indonesia

Although radio has traditionally been recognized as a medium dependent on listener engagement, social media platforms such as Twitter have introduced new forms of interactivity due to their real-time and networked characteristics, facilitating the emergence of novel engagement types. Employing a case study approach, this research delves into the various forms of engagement on @PRFMnews, the official Twitter handle of PRFM Radio in Indonesia. Data was collected through observation of posts and interactions on the @PRFMnews account and through comprehensive interviews with the chief editor and two online editors of the station. Document studies were also conducted throughout October 2021 to gather research data. The study yielded several findings. Firstly, Twitter has been identified not only as a source of news but also as a platform that augments listener engagement in citizen journalism. Secondly, user-to-user interactivity was evident in the manner in which users tweeted and responded to posts from both their peers and account administrators. Thirdly, user-to-system interactivity was characterized by how individuals engaged with the social networking platform itself, particularly in actions like clicking URLs and viewing media containing hyperlinks. Lastly, user-to-document interactivity was observed in the way users retweeted and liked posts on the @PRFMnews account. These findings demonstrate that the dynamics between radio stations and their listeners have evolved in conjunction with the popularity of Twitter.

A study of social visibility and engagement of world-renowned libraries on Twitter

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate how libraries use Twitter as a social media platform and examine the tweets they post, including multimedia content such as images and video clips. The study also aims to analyse the relationship between post types and user engagement and evaluate the effects of post features, such as multimedia content, on user engagement.Design/methodology/approachThe methodology of the study involved three phases. In Phase 1, a review of related literature was conducted to develop a holistic approach for the study. In Phase 2, official Twitter handles of selected libraries were identified and verified for authenticity using various methods, including cross-checking with library websites. During Phase 3, data was collected from the Twitter handles. The data was then tabulated and interpreted to achieve the set objectives of the study.FindingsThe paper examined the tweets posted by select libraries on Twitter and their impact on user engagement. The study found that most tweets were related to library resources/collection and announcements, followed by events hosted by libraries. Emotionally inspiring posts and daily facts were also commonly posted. The findings also showed that including images in tweets resulted in higher levels of user engagement than video clips did. The study suggests that incorporating images fosters engagement and boosts retweets, while watching a video takes more effort and time.Practical implicationsThe practical implications of the study can provide insights into the tweets that generate user engagement, which can help libraries tailor their social media strategies to attract and retain more followers. The paper can help libraries measure the success of their social media activities by evaluating user engagement metrics.Originality/valueThe originality/ value of the study lies in its examination of how libraries use Twitter as a social media platform, including the tweets they post and the impact of multimedia content on user engagement. While previous studies have examined the use of social media by libraries, this study focuses specifically on Twitter and provides a detailed analysis of the tweets that generate user engagement.

Analysis of sentiment in the European Central Bank’s social media activity during the Covid-19 pandemic and Ukraine War: A navigating crisis communication

To assess and comprehend the communication strategy used by the European Central Bank (ECB) throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and war in Ukraine, this study considers the crisis communication tactics of the ECB. The study analyzes 11,781 tweets from the ECB's official Twitter account using sentiment analysis to look at how the Bank interacts with the public and how it uses adaptive communication strategies in these trying times. This research innovatively employs the AFINN and NRC sentiment analysis methods to evaluate the ECB's crisis communication. NRC's use of a comprehensive lexicon for emotional identification complements the pre-computed sentiment ratings of AFINN. The ECB's use of positive, clear communication built public trust and underlines sentiment analysis's utility in strategic crisis communication. The study's detailed investigation offers insights for improving crisis communication plans for better public engagement and economic stability.

Social media as communication tools for anti-corruption campaign in Indonesia

Social media has proven to be quite effective in raising awareness and anti-corruption movements in society. This research aimed to analyze the use of social media Twitter as a means of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in conducting anti-corruption campaigns in Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative content analysis on the KPK's official Twitter account. The data were processed using the NVIVO 12 Plus software to answer research questions. This research revealed that the KPK's Twitter account is quite active in carrying out anti-corruption campaign activities, although in general it is not optimal. It can be seen from the low intensity of communication and limited communication network so that it is considered as less collaborative. Improving the problems is needed by KPK as it must also show good performance so that public trust continues in high condition. However, this research has limitations in looking at all anti-corruption campaigns carried out by the KPK because it only used Twitter as the reference. Therefore, further research is suggested to analyze all KPK social media such as Youtube and Instagram.

Optimizing Indonesia's Digital Diplomacy through a Multitrack Peace Building Approach: A Case Study of the Palestine-Israel Conflict

Digital diplomacy is used as an instrument to convey a country's foreign policy and national interests in responding to situations that occur globally. Indonesia through President Joko Widodo has implemented this to address the conflict between Israel and Palestine. However, President Jokowi's digital diplomacy through the official Twitter account (X) has not been optimal when viewed from the multitrack peace-building approach perspective. This study aims to optimize the implementation of Indonesia's digital diplomacy towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a multitrack peace-building approach. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study of President Jokowi's official Twitter account uploads related to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The results showed that Indonesia's digital diplomacy through President Jokowi's official Twitter account can be optimized through the involvement of middle-level leadership, especially the religion-based peace-building approach in the form of interacting with the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council for Da'wah and Ukhuwah as well as Rais Syuriyah of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board, M. Cholil Nafis (@cholilnafis) and General Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Central Board Abdul Mu'ti accounts. In addition, at the grassroots level, leadership can be optimized by involving the Chief Trustee of the Nusantara Palestina Center, Abdillah Onim account and if possible, also interacting with the Nusantara Palestina Center organization account considering that both of them continuously inform the latest conditions in Palestine.

Twitter content strategies to maximize engagement: The case of Thai Banks

Purpose– This study aims to examine how the marketer-generated content (MGC) strategies of banks affect their followers’ engagement on Twitter. Design/methodology/approach – A sample of MGC tweets from official Twitter accounts of both public and private banks in Thailand was collected using a Twitter analytic tool. Message features, content, intent, and post engagement were manually and automatically extracted from these tweets. Proposed relationships were analyzed using descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression analyses. Findings – The results indicate the negative influences of two control variables, media type (text), timing (evening), and some sub-types of information-sharing content and emotion-evoking content, as well as positive impacts of public bank type, some message features i.e., hashtags and mentions, media type, some content regarding emotion-evoking and action-inducing, and intent (request). Practical implications – Useful guidance for bank marketers to maximize engagement is offered. The suggestion for revising bank content strategies on Twitter are presented. Originality/value – This study examines the content strategy from a different perspective, which has rarely been employed in the literature. Additionally, this study reveals the Twitter content strategies of the Thai financial sector, which is a crucial sector supporting others. Understanding consumer behavioral engagement could help them to publish the right MGCs.

Analyzing Communication Strategies of the Saudi Ministry of Health During COVID-19

Effective communication is imperative during crises such as the COVID-19 Pandemic. The study investigates the communication strategies employed by the Saudi Ministry of Health through its official Twitter account during the pandemic. A content analysis of 1129 Tweets from the Saudi Ministry of Health’s official Twitter account was conducted from January 21, 2020, to July 21, 2020. Twitonomy software was used to collect the tweets. A coding sheet was developed and validated for measuring communication strategies, content types, language, target audience and user interaction. The results demonstrate that the Saudi Ministry of Health utilized an “information strategy” (74%) to communicate with the public. Most tweets included infographics (75.9%), followed by videos (16,95%). Text-only tweets (2%) and links to external websites (0.35%) were less absent. Arabic was the predominant language (86%), followed by English (12%), and a mix of ten other languages (2%). This study emphasizes the value of understanding audience dynamics for upcoming crisis communication strategies as well as the significance of effective communication in public health crises. The results can help public health authorities approach similar circumstances more effectively and effectively.

An effective approach for identifying keywords as high-quality filters to get emergency-implicated Twitter Spanish data

Twitter has become a powerful knowledge source for data extraction for data mining projects due to the amount of data generated by its users, which allows researchers to find content of almost any topic in real time, but this depends on the quality of the keywords used, otherwise the extracted data will have a high percentage of irrelevant content. In this paper, we introduce a time-aware machine-learning-based approach to identify meaningful keywords to maximize the extraction of relevant emergency-related tweets when the Twitter API is used. We follow the CRISP-DM methodology. The first stage relies on problem understanding, where we detected the necessity of using meaningful keywords to filter content and extract data with more quality and reduce the percentage of irrelevant tweets. In the second stage, data collection, we used the official Twitter API to extract and label tweets as “emergencia” and “no emergencia”. After that, we analyzed the collected data (data understanding) to determine preprocessing techniques and to prepare the data for the model. Finally, in the modeling and testing stages, we trained a restricted Boltzmann machine and four variations of autoencoders, including an architecture proposed by a genetic algorithm, to use them as keyword identifiers and to determine which of them has the best performance to deploy it to production (deployment stage). The results show a slightly better performance of the autoencoder proposed by the genetic algorithm (GADAE), achieving a R2score of 0.97, a MAE of 14×10−3, and a MSE of 4×10−4. GADAE, the best model, managed to extract 110% more relevant tweets than manual filtering in the context of emergency-implicated tweets in Ecuador.
