Stereoselective construction of optically active bicyclo[3.3.0]octenone derivatives based on the Pauson–Khand reaction

A new procedure for synthesis of optically active bicyclo[3.3.0]octenone derivatives possessing two distinguishable hydroxy groups was developed based on the intramolecular Pauson–Khand reaction of optically active enynes, which were easily prepared from dimethyl L-tartrate. (4S,5S)-4,5-Bis(tert-butyldimethylsiloxy)-7-(trimethylsilyl)hept-1-en-6-yne, for example, afforded (5S,7S,8S)-7,8-bis(tert-butyldimethylsiloxy)-2-(trimethylsilyl)bicyclo[3.3.0]oct-1-en-3-one exclusively, whereas (3S,4S)-3,4-dihydroxy-7-(trimethylsilyl)hept-1-en-6-yne produced (5R,6S,7S)-6,7-dihydroxy-2-(trimethylsilyl)bicyclo[3.3.0]oct-1-en-3-one in a highly stereoselective manner.

A Highly Diastereoselective Construction of Optically Active Bicyclo[3.3.0]octenone Derivatives from L-Ascorbic Acid via Pauson-Khand Reaction

The Pauson-Khand reaction of chiral enyne derivatives, derived from L -ascorbic acid or dimethyl L -tartrate, produced optically active bicyclo[3.3.0]octenone derivatives in a highly diastereoselective manner. Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kanazawa University, Kanazawa 920, Japan. Intramolecular Pauson-Khand reaction of the optically active enynes, prepared efficiently from L -ascorbic acid or dimethyl L -tartrate, provided the corresponding bicyclo[3.3.0]-octenones in a diastereoselective manner.

The Cerium(IV) Ammonium Nitrate Oxidation of 5-Hydroxy-2-methoxytropone to Bitropolonyl Derivatives and One-Step Synthesis of 3-Methoxy-p-tropoquinone

Abstract Unlike the benzenoid equivalent, p-methoxyphenol, the cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN)-oxidation of 5-hydroxy-2-methoxytropone gave C–C coupling products. On the other hand, either by thallium(III) nitrate (TTN) or CAN at 50 °C, 5-hydroxytropolone, a free tropolone, gave 3-methoxy-p-tropoquinone together with p-tropoquinone and 8-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]octenone derivatives, but no dimeric product.

Synthesis of bicyclo(4.3.0)nonenone and bicyclo(3.3.0)octenone derivatives by intramolecular Wadsworth-Emmons reaction: Formal synthesis of the sesquiterpene cedrene.

Annulation by the intramolecular Wadsworth-Emmons reaction for constructing bicyclo [4. 3. 0] nonenone and bicyclo [3. 3. 0] octenone is described. As an application of the reaction, the formal synthesis of the sesquiterpene cedrene was accomplished.
