The Influence of Occupational Safety for Iron Frame Installation Project Workers Using FMEA Approach in CV. Sinar Surya Abadi Sidoarjo

CV. Sinar Surya Abadi is a company engaged in the installation of iron frames. The manufacture of these products cannot be separated from hazardous equipment such as grinders, plasters, and others. This causes the risk of accidents at work. Thus the application of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) is very important to implement. Based on these problems, a study was made regarding the influence of work safety for project workers including iron with the FMEA approach on CV. Sidoarjo Eternal Sunshine. Occupational Health and Safety is a situation that affects the health and safety of workers or other employees. Occupational accidents can be reduced by implementing occupational safety and health (K3). FMEA is a structured procedure to identify and prevent as many failure modes as possible. FMEA focuses on preventing defects, increasing safety, and increasing customer satisfaction. The advantage of this FMEA is that it can improve the quality of control of the implementation of K3 so that it can prevent work accidents. FMEA serves to determine the actions of prioritized risks. The use of FMEA is also used to find out what potential risks exist in a production process. And also used to analyze failures from human error or the machine used.

Evaluation of job satisfaction and related factors in wood extraction workers in Gilan province

Introduction: occupational accidents are caused by ignorance of occupational health and safety recommendations, due to the high rate of accidents in the industry of cutting and extracting wood from the forest, this study is necessary to evaluate job satisfaction. Materials and Methods: In this research, job satisfaction was used as a dependent variable and independent variables included age, educational and employment status, type of work, and duration of employment. To determine the conditions of excessive fatigue among forest workers, the index of symptoms of excessive fatigue was used. The number of 100 workers was investigated by a questionnaire, the comparison of independent variables affecting the satisfaction or dissatisfaction of workers with work using discriminant analysis and the Wilks Lambda coefficient, and the comparison of the average opinions of people from different work groups regarding the work situation using Friedman's test was performed. Results: The four variables of duration of employment, age status of workers, employment status, and type of work are suitable for separating two groups satisfied with work and dissatisfied with work. The assessment of complaint rate showed that questions I take care of my family, I am very worried about my health and I am dissatisfied with many things with the highest rates of 84.66%, 70.66%, and 61.33% respectively. They took the complaint to themselves. The results showed that the highest amount of fatigue accumulation index is related to two groups chronic fatigue and general fatigue. The results of the present study show that 47% of forest workers are illiterate in their educational status, which requires a training course for workers to work with cutting tools and machines. The results showed that 41 percent of the people studied liked their jobs. Conclusion: Personal protective equipment is considered a work tool without which it is impossible to do the desired job. Training classes should be held periodically by the safety department for workers and supervisors when needed.

Edukasi Keselamatan dan Kesehatan pada Tempat Kerja bagi Alumni Kesehatan Masyarakat Universitas Negeri Malang

The incidence of occupational diseases and work accidents has increased every year. This can occur due to the lack of optimal implementation and implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (SMK3) in the workplace or even the implementation of SMK3 in the workplace. The application of SMK3 in the workplace is very vital, its urgency and usefulness. Based on the results of a situation analysis survey to UM Public Health Alumni, many workplaces have not been optimal in implementing SMK3 and even some workplaces have not implemented SMK3. As a promotive and preventive means, the FIK UM community service team created a digital training activity for UM Public Health alumni which was carried out in the form of an after sales webinar which aimed to increase knowledge and strengthen the knowledge of UM Public Health alumni. The activity consists of 6 series with the main theme being the Occupational Safety and Health Management System, taking place from June to July 2023 with different topics and speakers in each series. Evaluation of activities is carried out based on pretest and posttest results as well as participant satisfaction surveys. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that the implementation of this after sales webinar succeeded in increasing participants' knowledge related to the Occupational Safety and Health Management System to reach 73.5%. Also, 73% of participants who participated in digital training activities were very satisfied with the implementation of this activity.

Epidemiology of work-related hand and wrist injuries in a referral center: A descriptive study.

Occupational hand and wrist injuries (OHWIs) account for 25% of work-related accidents in low- and middle-income countries. In Colombia, more than 500000 occupational accidents occurred in 2021, and although the rate declined to less than 5% in 2020 and 2021, at least one in four accidents involved a hand or wrist injury. To describe the OHWIs in workers seen at the emergency room at a second-level hospital in Colombia. An observational study was performed using data from workers who experienced OHWIs and attended a second-level hospital, between June, 2020 and May, 2021. The overall frequency of OHWIs, as well as their distribution by sociodemographic, clinical, and occupational variables, are described. Furthermore, association patterns between sex, anatomical area (fingers, hand, wrist), and type of job were analyzed by correspondence analysis (CA). There were 2.101 workers treated for occupational accidents, 423 (20.3%) were cases of OHWIs, which mainly affected men (93.9%) with a median age of 31 years and who worked mainly in mining (75.9%). OHWIs were more common in the right upper extremity (55.3%) and comprised different types of injuries, such as contusion (42.1%), laceration (27.9%), fracture (18.7%), and crush injury (15.6%). They primarily affected the phalanges (95.2%), especially those of the first finger (25.7%). The CAs showed associations between the injured anatomical area and the worker's job that differed in men and women (explained variance > 90%). One out of five workers who suffered occupational accidents in Cundinamarca, Columbia had an OHWI, affecting mainly males employed in mining. This occupational profile is likely to lead to prolonged rehabilitation, and permanent functional limitations. Our results might be useful for adjusting preventive measures in cluster risk groups.

Prevention of Occupational Accidents and Occupational Diseases with Supervised Machine Learning Algorithms: Different Sector Applications

Abstract − The Occupational health and safety is a discipline that prevents work accidents and occupational diseases with a proactive method. For employee health, countries have legal responsibilities within the scope of international conventions, and employers have national responsibilities. It is obligatory for employers to carry out risk assessments, provide occupational safety trainings, carry out inspections, employ occupational safety specialists and workplace physicians, and record all work regard work safety. In countries, inspections are carried out with labor inspectors and private companies provide occupational safety services. However, it is difficult for the authorities to monitor occupational safety in large industrial facilities such as petrochemicals and refineries, where the flow of workers, materials and work equipment is too much and very fast. As workplace capacity, number of employees and material flow increase, the type and number of work accidents and occupational diseases also increase. Artificial intelligence technologies facilitate these follow-ups. The purpose of this article is to investigate the proactive prevention of the factors that cause work accidents and occupational diseases with supervised machine learning algorithms in different sectors. A literature search was conducted on sciencedirect, scopus, googlescholar databases. It has been examined what kind of algorithms are used in which sectors. According to the studies in the literature and applications in different sectors, the data collected with sensors and stored with cloud computing are fed to the relevant supervised machine learning algorithms that have been trained and tested before, and the factors that cause work accidents and occupational diseases are determined in advance. In addition to sound, image, health, location and environment data, physical parameters such as distance, level and pressure are monitored instantly with sensors. Managers are warned when a dangerous situation or behavior is detected in and threshold values are exceeded. In addition to employee and vehicle location tracking, predictive maintenance is provided by monitoring the performance of work and production vehicles. With the decrease in occupational accidents and diseases, occupational safety performance increases and costs decrease.

Analyzing Occupational Accidents by Using Fishbone for Enhanced Safety: A case study in Excavation Work

Excavation and earthworks are considered fundamental activities within the construction sector, and therefore, accidents occurring during excavation work cannot be separated from general accidents within the construction industry. These activities entail a range of hazards and risks, highlighting the critical importance of taking necessary precautions and providing training before commencing excavation work. The aim is to eliminate potential risks at their source by using appropriate equipment and adopting suitable excavation methods. If risks cannot be entirely eliminated, it is crucial to reduce them to acceptable levels by ensuring that workers use appropriate personal protective equipment, conducting regular maintenance of vehicles and equipment, and providing ongoing training. In this study, an incident that occurred during excavation work in Iğdır province was evaluated through a Fishbone analysis within the context of cause-and-effect relationships. The origins of the accident were thoroughly examined, and the results were assessed. Factors such as the absence of occupational health and safety measures, lack of workplace organization, and absence of trained personnel were identified as contributors to increased accident probability. Additionally, the study suggests that along with the absence of preventive measures, post-accident protective measures were also inadequate. It emphasizes that individuals lacking sufficient knowledge during rescue operations exacerbate the situation. Furthermore, it was concluded that activities performed by individuals lacking adequate knowledge of the equipment and machinery used in excavation work pose higher risks. The necessity of fostering a culture of occupational health and safety is underscored, highlighting its role in anticipating potential accidents and adhering to necessary procedures.

Physical Health in Patients with Post-COVID-19 6 and 12 Months after an Inpatient Rehabilitation: An Observational Study.

Background: Rehabilitation is an effective and feasible approach for post-COVID patients to improve physical health. However, knowledge regarding the long-term impact of rehabilitation on the physical health of these patients is lacking. Methods: Changes in physical health of 127 patients with COVID-19 as an occupational disease or work accident were assessed in a longitudinal observational study. Post-COVID symptoms, functional status, functional exercise capacity, endurance capacity, physical performance, quadricep strength, handgrip strength, motor balance ability, and self-reported physical performance were examined at the beginning as well as 6 and 12 months after the rehabilitation. Group differences concerning sex, age, acute COVID status, comorbidities prior to COVID-19, and aftercare interventions were also analysed. Results: Even 12 months after rehabilitation, the prevalence of post-COVID symptoms (28.6-94.7%) remained remarkably high in the study population. Significant improvements in various aspects of physical health were observed 6 (r = 0.288-0.755) and 12 months (r = 0.189-0.681) after the rehabilitation. Participants demonstrated enhanced endurance, strength, and balance function, as well as improvement in subjective physical ability. Significant group differences were observed between younger and older patients, those with mild-moderate and severe-critical COVID-19, and patients with and without pre-existing cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease, psychological disease, neuro-sensory disease, musculoskeletal disease, and exercising in an outpatient group. Conclusions: The study identifies persistent challenges in COVID-19 recovery, despite significant improvements in physical health 6 and 12 months after rehabilitation. Further research and the implementation of standardised approaches are required to enhance the outcomes of post-COVID rehabilitation, with a focus on developing personalised care strategies for long-term recovery.

Deep neural network-based probabilistic classifier of occupational accident types on a construction site in Korea

ABSTRACT The number of accidents in the Korean construction industry has been increasing rapidly, reaching about 25,000 every year. Although strong and binding laws and systems have been implemented to reduce accidents in the construction industry, the frequency of accidents is still higher than that of other industries. While existing studies have provided models for predicting occupational accidents, there are limitations in predicting individual workers’ occupational accidents specific to site conditions and worker tasks. This study proposed a deep neural network model that can classify and predict core accident types for workers in construction sites, considering the characteristics of the site and workers based on 70,204 case data from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency. The result of this study would contribute to improve safety in construction sites by being used for safety accident prevention training customized for workers at construction sites. Additionally, the model can be expanded to develop a real-time construction site occupational accident monitoring and early warning system by integrating ICT-based safety management technologies such as wearable devices and CCTV.

The prediction of the risks of spontaneous combustion in underground coal mines using a fault tree analysis method

Mining is one of the most risky and dangerous sectors. It is impossible to ignore the losses of life and material experienced by occupational accidents, which take place in the field of mining. Risk analysis begins with a risk assessment to identify the probability and severity of workplace hazards. Hazards must be controlled by precautions according to the risk score levels.In this study, a fault tree analysis method was conducted to analyze spontaneous combustion hazards and to predict future risks in underground coal mines. Three main causes of the top event were defined and for each of these causes, risk scores were computed using a fault tree analysis. Finally, the causes of spontaneous combustion, which is an event that is frequently encountered in coal mines, were discussed, and the spontaneous combustion risk probability was calculated as 0.3012 in cases of air entry into the gob and failure to prevent coal-air contact in development drifts. As a result of the study, the fundamental causes of spontaneous combustion, the greatest hazard in underground coal mining worldwide, have been examined in detail. The innovative approach introduced by the study aims to increase the awareness and recognition of conditions that lead to spontaneous combustion among industry workers and engineers through detailed evaluation. By doing so, it seeks to minimize the occurrence of spontaneous combustion incidents.•This paper introduces a main flowchart and countermeasure algorithm to prevent spontaneous combustion.•This paper also analyzes events which trigger spontaneous combustion and mentioned preventive measures for this events.

The Effect of Stop Motion Video as An Examination Media on The Knowledge and Safe Behavior of PT. X Metal Casting Industry Workers in Klaten

A work accident is one of the risks that can occur in the metal casting industry. Workers' unsafe behavior is the primary cause of occupational accidents. The definition of unsafe behavior is any human behavior that can allow work accidents to occur to oneself or others. The preliminary study results found that 100% of workers had work accidents due to unsafe behavior, and out of 19 workers, 47.3% had insufficient knowledge about unsafe behavior. Counseling using video stop motion is one effort that can be used to overcome. This research aims to investigate the impact of counseling using video stop motion media on enhancing workers' knowledge and safety practices in the metal casting industry. This type of research is a quasi-experiment with a pre-test, post-test, and control group. The experimental group consisted of the workers in the finishing section, while the control group consisted of the workers in the induction section. The Wilcoxon test analysis reveals a significant difference in knowledge and behavior values between the pre-test and post-test, resulting from the use of video stop motion media. Media. The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference in the mean value of differences in knowledge and behavior in the pre-test and post-test between the experimental and control groups with a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05). Video stop motion has the effect of increasing the value of knowledge and safe action among industry workers.

Employee Assistance Programs for Indigenous People in the Workplace

According to a survey regarding indigenous employment, in Taiwan, a high proportion of indigenous people are engaged in construction work compared with the overall population. However, among indigenous construction workers, 56.15% have received no occupational safety or health training, and 9.39% have encountered occupational accidents in their workplaces. Therefore, this study aimed to develop employee assistance programs (EAPs) for indigenous workers in Taiwan by focusing on three dimensions—namely work, life, and health—and by establishing corresponding implementation paths for these EAPs. A modified Delphi method was adopted to screen EAP measures for the workplaces of indigenous workers, and a formal evaluation followed. Subsequently, the analytic hierarchy process was employed to calculate the overall weights among the factors in order to discern the relative importance of each factor in achieving the target goal or to resolve target problems and establish an order of priority. The results indicated that health was the most important of the three dimensions of indigenous EAPs, followed by the life dimension and then the work dimension. Compared with previous studies regarding Han Taiwanese workers, mental health services in the health dimension were particularly important in the present study. Finally, regarding the health dimension, this study suggests developing mental health services that respect indigenous culture and therefore are appropriate for indigenous people, such as the establishment of drug and alcohol addiction support groups and mental health service systems. In addition, corresponding welfare measures can be offered to enhance people’s motivation to change.

Risk Control of Construction Worker Hazards at Heights

An occupational accident is an unexpected and unplanned occurrence, including acts of violence, arising out of or in connection with work, which results in one or more workers incurring a personal injury, disease, or death. Based on data from the ILO, every year, 2.78 million workers die due to occupational accidents and occupational diseases, of which 2.4 million (86.3%) are related to both occupational accidents and diseases. In comparison, the other 380,000 workers (13.7%) are due to occupational diseases only. The purpose of this study is to determine the risk control of hazards in high-altitude workers. The research method used is descriptive observational research that focuses on events that occur and is described in the form of a narrative. The results of this study indicate that there are still many workers who have not implemented hazard risk control at height and still do not use PPE when working at height. Controls that can be carried out are control through administrative work procedures, work safety analysis, making PPE completeness standards in the project area that are more tightened, and control of using PPE at height.

Workplace accidents, economic determinants and underreporting: an empirical analysis in Italy

PurposeThis paper proposes an analysis of occupational accidents in Italy at the regional level. For this purpose, our panel is composed of 20 regions over the 2010–2019 time span.Design/methodology/approachWe apply different econometric estimation techniques (pooled OLS model, panel fixed and random effects models and semiparametric fixed model) using INAIL and ISTAT data. Our models investigate workplace accidents at the regional level by accounting for socioeconomic, labour market and productive system variables and controlling for possible underreporting bias.FindingsOverall results reveal the existence of a relevant under-notification phenomenon of accidents at work with respect to moderate accidents, that is higher especially for the southern regions of Italy. However, when considering as outcome variable an alternative set of more severe workplace accidents our model specification remains highly jointly statistically significant. Among our main findings, the analysis shows that worker skills (blue collar) strongly affect the regional pattern of workplace accidents, i.e. an increase of 1% of low paid employees generates about an increase of 1.8 severe workplace accidents per thousand workers. Moreover, we provide evidence that the size of the firm is inversely related to the occupational accident rates. Finally, our results highlight a nonlinear relationship between GDP and occupational accidents for the Italian regional context, confirmed by the high statistical significance of the quadratic term in all the estimated linear models and by the semi-parametric analysis.Originality/valueA first element of originality of our study consists of investigating the macro determinants of occupation accidents at a regional Italian level. Second, the empirical literature (Boone and Van Ours, 2006) highlights the possible bias of underreporting behaviours on nonfatal accidents in contrast to fatal accidents that are always reported. From this perspective, we have identified a few analyses (namely, Boone et al., 2011) considering different accident sets characterised by different severity degrees. Thus, this paper contributes to the literature considering five alternative subsets of accidents stratified by degree of severity (i.e. moderate, severe, moderate plus severe, severe plus fatal and total accident rates) to test for possible underreporting bias affecting our econometric model.

Awareness of personal safety among frontline healthcare workers working in COVID ward of BPKIHS during COVID-19 pandemic: a cross-sectional study authors.

Frontline healthcare workers are at higher risk for COVID-19 infection and due to lack of availability of adequate personal protective equipment (PPE), lack of knowledge and good practices results in more deaths each year due to occupational accidents and diseases. The aim of the study was to assess the awareness of personal safety, the association between the level of awareness with selected socio-demographic variables and to identify the correlation between knowledge and practice of personal safety. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was conducted among 106 Frontline Healthcare workers who have worked in the COVID ward. The study was conducted between 7 August 2022 and June 2023. A convenient sampling technique was used for sample selection. A validated self-administered questionnaire was used to assess the awareness of personal safety. Descriptive statistics (mean, SD frequency and percentage) and inferential statistics (χ2 and Spearman's correlation rank) were used for the data analysis. Among the respondents, there were 38 doctors and 68 nurses. The majority of the respondents had a moderate level of knowledge (79.2%) and practice (52.8%) with a mean score of 13.52±2.10 and 14.51± 2.35, respectively. Doctors have slightly higher levels of knowledge (14.01±1.62) and practice (14.57±2.07) as compared to Nurses (13.19±2.27, 14.48±2.5), respectively. Knowledge was found to be associated with the education level and age of the respondents, and practice has a significant association with training/demonstration with a P value of less than 0.05. Knowledge and practice were found to have a partial positive correlation (r value of 0.27). This study concluded that those having higher levels of education had good levels of knowledge and those who have attended formal or informal training or demonstrations regarding personal safety had good practices regarding personal safety.

Occupational Accidents in Agriculture in a Developing Country: What are the Particularities? Example of the Société de Cultures Légumières (SCL) of Saint-Louis in Senegal between 2017 and 2021

This study aimed at describing the types of occupational accidents in an agriculture company in Senegal where that field, even on a large scale, has retained a large part of manual activities; it also help to point out the factors involved in order to identify major areas for prevention. We made a retrospective study from January 1st, 2017, to December 31st, 2021, at the SCL, covering all victims of work-related accidents according to the ILO definition. There were 965 occupational accidents, of which 131 (13%) are commuting accidents. Lost-time injuries accounted for 44.4%. Accidents were of low severity in 88.7% of cases, high in 6.8% of cases and very high in 4.5% of cases. The frequency and severity rates were respectively 24.3% and 0.24%. The victims were mainly men (67.8%), aged on average 35.3 years and working in their positions for 3.4 years. The predominant lesion was wound with 46.9% of cases. The severity of the accident was inversely related to seniority. It was also related to gender, with women having more serious accidents than men. Commuting accidents were also 14.2 times more serious than on-site accidents. Occupational accidents in agriculture are more common in developing countries. Unlike developed countries, they are more often of low to very low severity. Hand tools are the mostly incriminated and lack of experience is one of the prominent factors.

Fatalism Scale for Occupational Accidents and Diseases: A Scale Development Study

It is important to determine the attitudes of employees towards occupational accidents and diseases and whether these events are perceived as inevitable or out of control. Inaccurate interpretation of the perception of fatalism towards occupational accidents and diseases may lead to more occupational accidents and diseases. The use of scales to determine the perception of fatalism in the context of occupational accidents and diseases allows for a quantitative assessment of these issues. This approach makes it possible to objectively measure and analyze the perception of fatalism, thus paving the way for a more in-depth examination of related phenomena. This study is a scale development study to determine the level of fatalism towards occupational accidents and diseases. This methodological study was conducted between October 2021 and June 2023. The scale was shaped by taking expert opinions for the scale items prepared by making use of the literature, pre-applied and pilot applied with 75 people; Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis were conducted with 242 people; and all evaluated with validity and reliability analyzes. In the exploratory factor analysis for the developed scale of fatalism towards occupational accidents and diseases, it was seen that the scale items were gathered under 4 factors and the explanatory coefficient was 53.68%. Research on Occupational Risk Assessment for Welder Occupation in Romania

The ever-increasing needs of the working population have led to the development of various branches of industry, an increase in the number of employees, and a rise in the number of work-related accidents. The welder occupation is one of the most sought after occupations in Europe, according to the EURopean Employment Services (EURES) statistics. Taking into account the work system in which welders conduct their activity (uncomfortable working positions, splashes, high temperatures, mechanical factors, gases and fumes, magnetic fields due to electric current), the paper presents the risk factors identified for the welder occupation, based on the occupational injury and illness risk assessments. Following the analysis of 25 risk assessments, carried out by the assessment team that must include qualified evaluators, process specialists, the workers’ representative, occupational health and safety responsible at various industrial economic agents, a total of 70 main risk factors of occupational accidents and diseases were identified for the welder occupation. Risk factors were classified according to four main work components: worker, workload, work environment, and means of production. To reflect the importance of the identified risk factor, the number of organizations that considered that the risk was likely to occur but also the possibility that the risk was above the acceptable limit, calculated using the National Institute for Research and Development for Labor Protection “Alexandru Darabont” (INCDPM) method, a method often used in Romania, was identified from the analyzed assessments. Finally, a prevention and protection plan was drawn up with regard to the risks identified for the welder occupation, the final aim of which was to respectively reduce the probability of occurrence with the severity of the risks identified.

Introduction: Resident physicians and medical students who suffered occupational accidents involving biological risks can present serious health problems. Objective: To describe occupational accidents involving exposure to biological material among medical undergraduates and residents at the State University of Campinas from 2011 to 2020. Method: This was a retrospective case series study conducted from the records of work accidents involving exposure to biological material that occurred among medical undergraduates and residents. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Analysis System (SAS) software, version 9.4. To check the association between the use of personal protective equipment and exposure route, the method Generalized Estimating Equations was used. Results: A total of 1,121 notifications were analyzed, of which 78.5% involved medical residents and 21.5% involved medical undergraduates. Most exposures were due to percutaneous injury (80.1%), the needle with lumen was the main causative agent (37.6%), and 49.0% accidents occurred during surgical procedures or sutures. The operating room and emergency unit had the highest number of accidents. It was evidenced association between accidents that occurred with exposure to the mucous membranes of eyes and non-adherence to eye protection (p<0, 0001). Residents suffered more accidents in the first two years of residency (66.3%), whereas in medical undergraduate students, the prevalence was between the fifth and sixth year of the program (81.9%). Conclusions: Awareness and early education regarding the issue of safety in the work environment should be a priority in medical education, because they provide students with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves from occupational biological hazards.
