The results of the work. Information asymmetry is a situation in which some market participants have information, but it is not available to other interested parties. There are two types of information asymmetry: hidden characteristics and hidden actions. The reasons for the asymmetry of information flows are related to resource costs, obsolescence of information, lack of opportunity or knowledge and skills to evaluate the available information in full. One of the consequences of information asymmetry is a sharp drop in the level of public welfare. Incompleteness of information is an integral part of economic life, which in turn affects the conditions and features of the markets and causes additional transaction costs. Conclusions. Information asymmetry is an intrinsic feature of the market, its impact on the functioning of the market is always multifaceted and depends only on the degree of asymmetry. It affects both consumer behavior and firm strategy, as well as competition.
