The scattering of EM waves by a dielectric wire-shaped object in layered media is investigated by a novel method. The resistive tube boundary condition (RTBC) and the spline-type divided difference interpolation (SDDI) technique have been adopted in the analysis. The former reduces multiple integrals to line integrals, and the latter enables the complex-variable integration of Green's functions to be efficiently performed. The combination of the two approaches saves the overall computational time. To verify the validity of this method, the scattering characteristics of a resistive wire in both air and layered media are analyzed and compared with other approaches. ©2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
