Introduction: A total of 1.6 billion adults are overweight worldwide, with 400 million of them are obese. Obesity may lead to hyperlipidemia associated with the process of atherogenesis which is a risk factor for coronary heart disease. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of soursop leaves aqueous extract on body weight and blood cholesterol levels. Method: This research is a pure experimental study using a completely randomised design. The method used is by treating the obese male Wistar rats with sour soup leaves aqueous extract. The subject of this study were divided into 5 Groups; Group 1 treated with 200mg/kg body weight sour sop leaves aqueous extract; Group 2 treated with 400mg/kg body weight sour sop leaves aqueous extract; Group 3 treated with simvastatin (Positive Control), Group 4 did not treated (Negative Control) Group; and Group 5 (Normal Group). Saphiro Wilkins Test, ANOVA Test and Kruskall Wallis Test were used to analyse data. Result: The results revealed that there was a significant differences on body weight between Group 1, Group 2 and Normal Group (p 0.05). Conclusion: The conclusion of this study was that sour sop leaves aqueous extract have an inhibition effect on body weight gain it also showed affect on blood cholesterol level of obese male Wistar rats. The soursops leaves aqueous extract have similar effect with simvastatin.
