A gas-liquid Chromatographie method is described whereby a number of monosaccharides and disaccharides may be identified and estimated in urine. The monosaccharides included d-glucose, d-fructose, d-mannose, d-galactose, 6-deoxy- l-galactose ( l-fucose), 2-acetamido-2-deoxy- d-galactose ( N- acetyl- d- galactosamine ) and 2-acetamido-2-deoxy- d-glucose ( n-acetyl- d-glucosamine). The disaccharides included lactose, sucrose, maltose, gentiobiose, cellobiose, trehalose and palatinose. The standard method is capable of detecting and estimating sugars in urine in concentrations from 2.5 mg/100 ml to 500 mg or more/100 ml and the modified method could extend the range to as little as 0.5 mg/100 ml.
