The aim of research – to study the internal and external determinants of psychologicaladaptation of foreign students in the conditions of quarantine caused by Covid 19.Materials and methods. We have examined 220 foreign students studying in the 1st-3rdcourses of the Bukovinian State Medical University. The survey was conducted anonymouslyusing a questionnaire, which included general data (age, gender, place of residence, numberof family members and nature of family relationships) and 67 questions about adaptationto the university, to each of which the respondent had to give a positive or negative answer. We examined the psychological adaptation of foreign students to study at a higher medicaleducation institution during the COVID-19 pandemic using the Student Adaptation toCollege Questionnaire (SACQ) developed by Baker and Siryk (1989,1994) with author’schanges and modifications. The distribution of students depending on the country fromwhich they came to study was as follows: about 85% were from India, 4%– from Ghana, theremaining 11% – from other countries of Asia, Europe, Africa and the USA. Results. In the conditions of the pandemic due to Covid-19, a mixed form of educationusing distance educational technologies has been introduced, which affects thepsychological adaptation of foreign students. The level of psychological adaptation insuch learning conditions remains at a high level in 55.01% of respondents, medium andlow levels in 25.02% in 19.97% of respondents, respectively. 57.26% had a high levelof physical adaptation, 28.18% had an average level, and 14.56% had a low level ofphysical adaptation of foreigners in quarantine study conditions. Most of the students,77.73%, demonstrated a high level of adaptation to studying at BSMU.The results of the study of correlations between psychological and physical adaptationand adaptation to study at this university indicate a direct correlation of medium strengthbetween psychological adaptation and general adaptation to study (r=0.57, p≤0.05) andadaptation to study at this university (r=0.50, p≤0.05).Conclusions. Psychological adaptation is an important component that improves theprocess of mastering professional competencies by foreign students in institutions of highermedical education. Psychological and physical adaptations are maintained at a fairly highlevel in the majority of students of higher medical education from among foreign citizensin the conditions of a mixed form of education during the pandemic caused by Covid-19.
