Analysis of landcover changes and carrying capacity of coastal cities North Java of Central Java Province, Indonesia

North Coastal Central Java has been a strategic zone from the colonial era to the present because it supports the national socio-economic sector. Urbanization has threatened the development of districts/cities on the northern coast of Central Java. The physiographical conditions of coastal districts/cities along Pantura are formed from alluvial plains, making the environment's carrying capacity more vulnerable to changes in global conditions and pressures from the socio-economic activities of the population. This study aims to identify changes in land cover, its relationship to road infrastructure development, and its implications for environmental carrying capacity. The method used in this study uses GIS to determine changes in land cover and settlement growth patterns and calculates biocapacity and ecological footprint to obtain environmental carrying capacity conditions. The results show that land cover changes mainly occur in agricultural land, plantations, and settlements. In addition, the environment's carrying capacity experienced a deficit/overshoot in 2010, which continued until 2020. The result indicates the problem in the environmental dimension of sustainable development of coastal cities and requires serious intervention to increase environmental quality.

Heavy Metal Contamination on Vannamei Shrimp Aquaculture in North Coast of Central Java

The North Coast of Central Java receives consignments of waste containing heavy metal contamination from several sources, resulting in a decrease in water quality on the coast. Heavy metal contamination in water sources, such as Pb, Cd, and Cr that will be used in shrimp farming. The impact of Pb, Cd, and Cr can have several adverse effects, such as health risk, ecological imbalance, reduce shrimp growth and productivity, environment pollution. The research was conducted to analyze heavy metal contamination levels in ponds and vannamei shrimp yields on the northern coast of Central Java. The method involved collecting shrimp, water, and sediment samples at nine different locations (Dampyak; Suradadi; Kedongkelor; Danasari; Nyamplungsari; Pesantren; Depok; Wonokerto; Degayu). Heavy metal data were analyzed with SPSS. The mean lead concentrations were 0.52+0.19 mg.kg-1 in sediment, 0.66+0.11 mg.kg-1 in water, and 0.86+0.18 mg.kg-1 in shrimp. Cadmium levels were measured in soil (0.028+0.03 mg.kg-1), water (0.027+0.021 mg.kg-1), and shrimp (0.011+0.004 mg.kg-1). The mean chromium concentrations were 0.51+0.25 mg.kg-1 in sediment, 0.93+0.40 mg.kg-1 in water, and 0.95+0.11 mg.kg-1 in shrimp. Based on the calculation of the average BAF x > 1.0, vannamei shrimp on the northern coast of Central Java have the capability of becoming bioaccumulation and bioindicators. The consumption of vannamei shrimp for 70 years has a lifetime risk of developing cancer due to the LCR value of x > 10-6 on the northern coast of Central Java.

DNA Barcoding Approach: Assessing Diversity of Economically Important Anchovy on the Northern Coast of Java, Indonesia

Abstract Anchovy is one of the economically important fish in the western part of the northern coast of Central Java. The production of anchovies extends along the coast from Brebes Regency to Batang Regency. Therefore, this study aims to determine the diversity of anchovies on the northern coast of Central Java (Brebes, Tegal, Pemalang, Batang, and Kendal), using a molecular approach. This study was conducted from April to September 2019 in the Laboratory of Tropical Marine Biotechnology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Universitas Diponegoro. The descriptive exploratory method was applied in this study with a random sampling technique, while the cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene was used for molecular identification. An anchovy sample molecularly identified from each region was found by sampling, including BB 3, PML 2, BTG 1, BTG 2, BTG 4, TGL 2, TGL 4, KDL 1, and KDL 4. The base-pair length of 10 anchovy samples from the COI gene amplification result was 600-700 bp. The sequencing and alignment results of the BLAST analysis showed that the ten anchovy samples were included in the type of Encrasicholina heteroloba, Stolephorus commersoni, Stolephorus waitei and Atherinomorus sp., which ranged from 98 to 99% similarity in location. Therefore, it is concluded that there were at least four different species of anchovy on the northern coast of Java. However, further research is suggested to determine the genetic variation of each species for better fisheries management.

Stock conditions and status of blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) in Demak water area, the northern coast of Central Java

Blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) is the dominant catch in Betahwalang, Demak, and the most important export fish commodity, particularly to USA. The high demand for this crab has been promoting an excessive fishing effort, causing a decrease in the crab's natural stock. This study aims to investigate the biological condition of P. pelagicus on the northern coast of Central Java and assess the crab stock exploitation status in this study area. Carapace width, body weight, Gonad Maturity Stages (GMS), and sex of crab samples were collected from the fishers and collectors landing sites or meeting points. This study employs a simple random sampling technique with no replacement. This study revealed that the maximum carapace width of female crabs was 56-164 mm, and the estimated carapace width at first maturity (Lm) was 98.2 mm. The relationships between carapace width and body weight between male and female crabs indicated positive and negative allometric growth patterns. During this assessment, the P. pelagicus stock indicated an 'over-exploited’ status, with an LB-SPR parameter of 19 percent and an exploitation rate (E) of 0.66. Management measures such as minimum legal size, reduced effort, and open-close areas and seasons should be implemented to achieve sustainable use of the crab fishery.Keywords:Blue swimming crabFishing gearDemak watersCarapace lengthSpawning potential ratio

Magma Evolution of Lasem and Senjong Volcanic Complex: High-K Magmatism in Sunda Arc, Indonesia

DOI:10.17014/ijog.9.1.131-145Lasem and Senjong Volcanic Complex (LSVC) is one of four Quaternary volcanic complexes with high-K magmatism distributed in the northern coast of Central Java. This research aims to understand the magmatic evolution of the volcanic complex. Morphostratigraphy analysis and field observation show twelve pyroclastic density flow units in Lasem Volcano, distributed mainly in the northern to eastern flanks, but minor occurrences in the southern and western flanks. Meanwhile, nine lava flow units of Lasem are concentrated on the south flank of the volcano. Lasem stratovolcano is attributed to four lava domes distributed on the northern and southern flanks. Senjong Volcano comprises one lava flow and four lava domes. Rocks of LSVC are composed of plagioclase, K-feldspar, hornblende, clinopyroxene, and opaque minerals embedded in the groundmass of volcanic glass and microlite. These calc-alkaline rocks range from basaltic trachyandesite to trachyte in composition. The magma of LSVC can further be grouped into High K/Rb and Low K/Rb types, which dominate the Lasem and Senjong Volcano products, respectively. These two magma types consistently show divergent trends in K/Rb and Rb/Nb plots against increasing silica, indicating distinct differentiation processes of similar magma source.

Typologies of the Fiqh Conception in the Covid-19 Pandemic Era (Exploration on Religious Views and Attitudes of Kyai-in mosques of North Coast of Java)

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of the fiqh conception of the kyai and their congregations in the act of worship in the mosque. The practice of worship during the Covid-19 pandemic shifted in patterns and choices of kyai schools of thought after the MUI fatwa, which issued regulation regarding the temporary abolition of Friday, Eid prayers, tarawih, and the use of masks, hand sanitizers, and social distance (distanced rows) in congregation of 5 daily prayers and religious activities in the mosque. This diversity is interesting to explore because these various conceptions of the acts of worship give negative impacts to intra-religious harmony. There are signs of socio-religious conflicst, distrust of certain community leaders, symptoms of disharmony, disbelieve in other parties in the public sphere and social media. This socio-religious dialectical context is encountered by the kyai, leaders and communities on the northern coast of Central Java, especially in Pati Regency and Semarang City. This is qualitative research using multi-disciplinary methods regarding normative analysis of Islamic law and socio-anthropology. Data was collected through interviews with kyai and community leaders, observation and documentation. Data validation was carried out through triangulation, as well as descriptive-qualitative analysis, through reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings of this study are as follows: first, the dynamics of a new conception of fiqh as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic amid various MUI and government policies through the implementation of health protocol. Second, four typical new conceptions of fiqh were found for kyai and the public during a pandemic. The diversity of this community typology can be seen from their worship behavior and religious actions. Typical of the first group is ‘normative’ whose written texts are understood in literal sence about the pandemic jurisprudence and are very strict about implementing health protocol. The second is the ‘moderate group’ who is flexible in conceptualizing the fiqh of pandemic and carrying out health protocol. Third, there are ‘liberative-ignore’ groups who are liberal in understanding fiqh during the pandemic, and they do not pay much attention to the health protocol. Typical of the fourth group, the ‘skeptics’ who do not believe in the presence of the covid-19 pandemic, even among this group there are those who think that covid is just a power politics engineering.

Water Quality Assessment Based on National Sanitations Foundation Water Quality Index during Rainy Season in Sibelis and Kemiri Estuaries Tegal City

Sibelis and Kemiri are two important river estuaries in Tegal City, at the northern coast of Central Java. Both estuaries have differences in sources of pollution. Pollutants in Sibelis estuary come from industrial activities, such as the fillet household industry, fishing ports, and domestic pollution. While pollutants of Kemiri estuary come from pond fisheries, agricultural activities, and domestic pollutions. This study aims to assess the water quality of the Sibelis and Kemiri estuaries during the rainy season based on the Water Quality Index of the National Sanitation Foundation. The research was done on January–March 2019 (rainy season) with three sampling stations. Each station was divided into three sites. Eight water quality parameters were measured i.e. temperature, TDS, TSS, pH, BOD5, DO, PO4 and NO3. The results showed that there was an increasing trend in the NSF WQI Index in Sibelis from January to March 2019 (48.02 to 51.25) and included in the poor quality category (49.61). Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Environment Standards (2004), six parameters were out of standard, namely TDS, TSS, BOD5, DO, PO4 and NO3. While the results of Kemiri estuary show a decreasing trend from January to March 2019 (62.36 to 57.88) and fall into the medium quality category (62.08). Only four parameters have outside standards i.e. TDS, TSS, PO4 and NO3.

Emerging contaminants detected in aquaculture sites in Java, Indonesia

Pharmaceuticals of emerging concern (acetaminophen (ACM), trimethoprim (TMP), oxytetracycline (OTC), and sulfamethoxazole (SMX)) were detected in water samples from aquaculture environments and nonaquaculture sites in four regions located on the northern coast of Central Java. ACM was the most prevalent pharmaceutical, with a mean concentration ranging from not detected (n.d.) to 5.5 ± 1.9 ngL−1 (Brebes). Among the target antibiotics (TMP, OTC, SMX), OTC was the most ubiquitous, with a mean concentration varying from n.d. to 8.0 ± 3.3 ngL−1. Correlation analysis demonstrated that there was a significant correlation between TMP and SMX concentrations. Based on ecological risk assessment evaluation, the use of OTC requires serious consideration, as it presented high health risks to algae, while ACM, TMP, and SMX posed an insignificant to moderate risk to algae, invertebrates, and fish. The findings obtained from this study highlight OTC as an emerging contaminant of prominent concern. More attention needs to be given to managing and planning for the sustainable management of shrimp farms, particularly in the northern part of Central Java.

Molecular Barcoding Reveal the Existence of Mole Crabs Emerita emeritus in North Coast of Central Java

The existence of mole crabs had been reported from the southern coast of Central Java. However, no mole crab data was available from the northern coast Central Java. This study aimed to figure out the existence of mole crabs in the northern coast of Central Java as revealed from the cytochrome c oxidase 1 (COI) barcoding. Mole crabs samples collected in Sendang Sikucing Beach Kendal. Taxonomic status of the samples was inferred from sequences similarity test using basic local alignment search tool to conspecific sequence deposited in GenBank. Pairwise genetic distances were calculated based on the Kimura 2-parameter model. A phylogenetic tree had reconstructed in molecular evolution genetic analysis (MEGA) software based on neighbor-joining algorithm. Branching reliability was obtained from 1000 bootstraps replication while branching polarity was obtained from the out-group comparison. The mole crab samples from the northern coast of Central Java had unambiguously identified as Emerita emeritus based on high sequences similarities (98.27%-99.70%), low genetic distances (0.002-0.005), and their monophyly with Emerita emeritus (KR047035) in GenBank. Pairwise analysis among each possibility pair of samples had genetic distances ranged between 0.000 and 0.005, indicated that all sample belong to single species. The data provide the first record of the existence of Emerita emeritus in the northern coast of Central Java. Our data on the existence of E. emeritus in the northern coast of Central Java is among essentials information as a scientific basis in creating policy for the management of sustainable use of the mole crabs in the areas.

Ecolinguistics in the Cultural Acculturation of the Northern Coastal Communities of Central Java

The main subject of this research is the ecological lexicon in the northern coastal communities of Central Java. The existence of ecological lexicon in the Northern coastal communities may serve as a form of language attitude of the speech community. The language attitude is not only observable by verbal messages, but Javanese people are closely integrated with the biological environment. The symbols of nature appear to be integrated with the life of the Northern coastal communities of Central Java. These symbols of nature represent the philosophy of life of the Northern Coastal communities of Java who still firmly uphold their faith and belief. The method used was a survey involving questionnaires from several informants at the observation points. Observation points in three major areas of Northern Coast of Central Java were including Demak, Pati, and Rembang. The data were collected by ecolinguistic design. The results of the research showed that the ecological lexicon of Northern coastal communities of Central Java was observable in the designation of agricultural products, especially in the biological environment. This persistence of attitude was manifested in the belief in the ecological lexicon associated with religious rituals. Ecological lexicon was chosen as a symbol of harmonization of human interaction with nature as a fundamental form of integration with their God. In addition to being observable in the ecological lexicon, the language attitude of the Northern coastal communities of Central Java was also seen in the cultural ecology of the Northern coastal communities of Central Java. Cultural ecology appeared in the humility in giving a recpect. The respect is reflected in sedekah laut, sedekah bumi rituals, and in the number of architectural ridges (gunungan) of residential building.

RESILIENCE AND FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT IN A COASTAL ZONE

Purpose: The article conducts the study that the northern coast of Central Java province in Indonesia is considered as the critical area of flood path. The region always suffers from floods due to the heavy rain and/or the sea-level rise. Therefore, people are suffering and the ecosystem is deteriorating.
 Methodology: Vulnerability and resilience are considered based on the use of indicators. An indicator or a set of indicators can be defined as an inherent characteristic that quantitatively estimates the conditions of a system. They usually focus on minor, feasible, palpable and effective part of a system offering people a sense of bigger representation. Therefore, it is very important to know effects on people, cities and natural resources by these indicators.
 Result: Results of the present study indicated that levels of vulnerability and the community resilience of the northern coast of Central Java to flood were in the medium category. In addition, the level of coastal community resilience was affected by the exposure of flood risk programs and the public adaptive capacity variable.
 Applications: This research can be used for universities, teachers, and students.
 Novelty/Originality: A number of efforts have been made to manage and mitigate the flood problems, despite the fact that results are incomplete and still restructuring from time to time. It is realized that infrastructural capacity for flood control, community awareness, and other multi-factors significantly contribute to solving the flood problem in the regions.

From Railroad to Highway: Shifting Use of Land Transportation System in the Northern Coast of Central Java

The development of land transportation facilities both trains and highway in the end of 19th and 20th century was closely related to the production plantation crops. Historical method was used in writing this article. Documentation was done by searching information related to road accidents. Documents would be traced in Jakarta National Archives, Jakarta National Library, Press Monument in Surakarta, Central Bureau of Statistics Central Java, several libraries in Yogyakarta. In early 20th century, trains became a main transportation system because they might transport plantation crops in large quantities before drove in the port city. However, due to the decline in plantation production, the function of trains decreased as well. During the New Order era which focused on agrarian farming system, trains’ function as transportation went down and replaced by highway. In other words, highway became a primary transportation system because they were able to transport production crops (e.g. rice) from fields to our house. This shifting use was closely related to the policy issued by the government.  Pengembangan fasilitas transportasi darat baik kereta api maupun jalan raya pada akhir abad ke-19 dan ke-20 terkait erat dengan produksi tanaman perkebunan. Metode historis digunakan dalam menulis artikel ini. Dokumentasi dilakukan dengan mencari informasi terkait kecelakaan di jalan. Dokumen akan dilacak di Arsip Nasional Jakarta, Perpustakaan Nasional Jakarta, Monumen Pers di Surakarta, Biro Pusat Statistik Jawa Tengah, beberapa perpustakaan di Yogyakarta. Pada awal abad ke-20, kereta api menjadi sistem transportasi utama karena mereka mengangkut tanaman perkebunan dalam jumlah besar sebelum melaju di kota pelabuhan. Namun, karena penurunan produksi perkebunan, fungsi kereta api juga menurun. Selama era Orde Baru yang berfokus pada sistem pertanian agraria, fungsi kereta api sebagai transportasi turun dan digantikan oleh jalan raya. Dengan kata lain, jalan raya menjadi sistem transportasi utama karena mereka dapat mengangkut tanaman produksi (misalnya beras) dari ladang ke rumah. Heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn) concentrations in edible bivalves harvested from Northern Coast of Central Java, Indonesia

This study measured the concentration of Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn in bivalves captured from the northern coast of Central Java, Indonesia. We also evaluated the hazard level posed by the metals in relation to the maximum acceptable limit (MAL) for human consumption and to estimate the weekly intake and compare it with the provisional tolerable weekly intake. The highest Cd levels were recorded in Amusium pleuronectes (16.32 mg Cd/kg) and the lowest levels of Cd were observed in Perna viridis (0.18 mg Cd/kg). A. granosa contained the highest level of Pb (9.050 mg Pb/kg) and P. viridis contained the lowest level of Pb (1.07mg Pb/kg). The lowest Cu level was observed in A. granosa (1.49 mg Cu/kg) and the highest Cu level was noted in C. gigas (86.21 mg Cu/kg). The levels of Zn in all species were relatively higher compared to other metals, ranged from 33.56 to 846.81 mg Zn/kg. The Cd level in bivalves was below the MAL of WHO and FAO (2 mg/kg), except in A. pleuronectes from Tegal city. The level of Pb in bivalves was exceeded the MAL value of the various existing authorities. Cu level in C. gigas (59.2 mg Cu/kg) exceeded the MAL of Indonesian authority and WHO. Zn levels in C. gigas, A. pleuronectes and A. granosa exceeded the MAL of various authorities. In order to avoid the impact of metals on people health, then safely weight of bivalves were allowed to be consumed were 0.10 kg/week for A. granosa, 0.10 kg/week for C. gigas, 0.16 kg/week for M. lyrata, 0.36 kg.week for P. viridis and 0.03 kg/week for A. pleuronectes.

Growth parameter, mortality, recruitment pattern, and exploitation rate of white shrimp Penaeus indicus in northern coastal waters of Western Central Java, Indonesia

Growth parameter, mortality, recruitment pattern, and exploitation rate of white shrimp Penaeus indicus on the northern coast of Central Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 1318-1324. The aims of this study were to know the growth parameters, first lenght captured (Lc), mortality, recruitment pattern, and the exploitation rate of white shrimp (Penaeus indicus H.Milne Edwards, 1837) in the Western Coastal North Central Java Sea, Indonesia. Samples were collected from May 2016 to July 2017 using survey method and direct observations on fishing unit areas. The results showed that the relationship of the carapace length and weight is allometric. Based on the estimates of von Bertalanffy growth equation to the carapace length, the growth parameters of CL∞ and K values in male were 37 mm and 0.97, while in female were 38.5 mm and 0.85. While, the rates of total mortality (Z), natural mortality (M), and fishing mortality (F) were 3.5, 1.67, and 1.84 for males, and 5.03, 1.51, and 3.52 for females, respectively. The exploitation rate (E) of male shrimp was 0.52 and of female was 0.7 indicating that female shrimp get higher capture pressure than the males. It also showed that the rate of exploitation has to exceed the optimum sustainable yield (E>0.5). Time recruitment occurred throughout the year, with two peak seasons, i.e., in April-June and September-November. Moreover, the length of the carapace during recruitment was 15-20 mm. While the carapace length of the first caught (CL∞50) was 18.3 mm for male and 17.6 mm for female indicating that the P. indicus caught was still in the small size, as well as below the first mature gonad (CLm50 = 22-39 mm). This is because the mesh size of cod-end is 0.75 inches or about 2 cm.

Rain harvesting patterns for a dynamic secondary city: a case study of Semarang City

Semarang is considered as a secondary city in a country like Indonesia. Beside its unique characteristics due to its location in northern coast of Central Java, it also faces increasing water demand. Semarang implements rain harvesting technology but has not yet achieved desired standard level. This study aims to identify community acceptance pattern of rain harvesting in settlement area through a combined method of landscape physiography units and urban observation of non-parametric statistical questionnaires. Both are supported by geographic information system. Variables measured were knowledge, perception, and attitude. Findings resulted in spatial distribution of rain harvesting pattern.

Karakter Perempuan Jawa Dalam Leksikon Jawa

This study aims to identify the Java lexicon. The Javanese lexicon which has a relation to the character of Javanese women. The Java Lexicon which is the focus of the study is vocabulary based on the meaning of the components of the character: behavior, habits and character. Location of research in the northern coast of Central Java. Data collection methods are observation, interview (structured interview and in-depth interview), and focus grop discussion (FGD). The analytical method is the equivalent method. Using three analytical techniques: reconstruction, correlation, and context matching. The theoretical basis used is adhesion: the word-concept-referent and Sapir-Worf hypothesis. Research findings are 1) Javanese female characters are reflected in the lexicon; 2) Lexicon of Javanese female characters can be traced internally (word structure) and external (context and philosophy); 3) internal studies are analyzed diachronically and synchronously; 4) External studies are analyzed involving the components of context and cultural order that have philosophical values (micro and macro); 5) The order of word-concept-referent is a formula for reconstructing forms and meanings.

Community resilience to floods in the coastal zone for disaster risk reduction.

The northern coast of the Central Java province is considered to be the critical area of flood path. The area is vulnerable to floods because of incessant rain and/or sea-level rise, resulting in suffering to people and the deterioration of the ecosystem. A number of measures have been implemented to manage the problem of floods, although the results are not noteworthy. It is obvious that infrastructure capacity for flood control, community awareness and other multiple factors significantly contribute to averting the problem of flooding in the area. This study aimed to determine the level of flood-zone vulnerability, the level of community resilience to floods and the influence of vulnerability aspects on community resilience. Interviews were conducted to outline the resilience model. A quantitative method was employed to analyse the data. The results of this study indicated that the exposure aspect is the greatest variable in describing flood vulnerability. At the same time, the greatest variables determining community resilience are damages, followed by losses and personal casualties. Among the flood vulnerability aspects are the exposure and adaptive capacities that determine the community resilience of the northern coast of Central Java.

Isolation of Rhizobium Bacteria from Forage Legumes for the Development of Ruminant Feed

The aimed of the study was to explore the presence of Rhizobium bacteria along the northern coast of Central Java, to develop a saline-resistant legumes. Rhizobium bacteria is a mutualistic bacterium capable of symbiosis with legumes so that legumes crop yields increase. The research begins with sampling of soil and root nodule of forage legumes along the Northern Coast of Central Java including Tegal, Pekalongan, Semarang, Demak, Pati. Soil samples were analysed for salinity, Total Dissolved Solids, and pH. Rhizobium bacteria were isolated from the acquired root nodule, then identified by biochemical test to ensure that the isolates obtained were Rhizobium bacteria. The results showed that the five districts/municipal sites sampled by the soil have very low salinity to very high levels. The highest level of soil salinity was found in Demak (Sayung) which has an electrical conductivity value (EC) of 17.77 mmhos/cm. The EC values of legumes overgrown soils showed a low salinity level while bare soils have high salinity levels. Feed crops legumes that could be found in the northern coast of Central Java were Centrosema pubescens, Calopogonium mucunoides, Leucaena leucocephala, and Sesbania grandiflora. The study obtained 6 kinds of isolates of rhizobium bacteria isolated from forage legumes, included 1) Centrosema pubescens isolated from Pekalongan, 2) Centrosema pubescens isolated from Tegal, 3) Calopogonium mucunoides isolated from Pekalongan, 4) Leucaenaleucocephala isolated from Tegal, 5) Leucaena leucocephala isolated from Semarang, 6) Sesbania grandiflora isolated from Tegal.

Language of Coastal Communities in the Northern Coast of Central Java: Sociolinguistic Studies in Cultural Integration Maritime-Agrarian Perspective

Language of Coastal Communities in the Northern Coast of Central Java: Sociolinguistic Studies in Cultural Integration Maritime-Agrarian Perspective

Regencies in the northern coast of Central Java must transform their development priorities, based on their local potential resources and optimize their new sources of growth. Jepara, a costal regency located in northern coast of Central Java province, has a coastline of 82.73 km and 16 sub-districts consisting 9 coastal sub-districts and 7 inland sub-districts. The concentration of population in coastal areas causes the coastal sub-districts to be more developed than the inland sub-districts. The objectives of this study were (1) to analyze the level of sub-districts’ development based on their infrastructures and facilities and (2) to analyze stakeholder perception on coastal area development of Jepara. The methods used for analysis were scalogram analysis method and AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process). The result of study showed that Kedung, Jepara, Keling and Karimunjawa sub-district are coastal sub-districts whith level I on hierarchy which means they are high development areas. The result of stakeholder perception analysis showed infrastructure availability as the main priority for coastal area development, nautical tourism as the main activity that shall be developed in coastal regions, and Karimunjawa sub-district as the main priority for development in Jepara regency.
