Species diversity and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of Portunidae in Batubara, North Sumatera, Indonesia

Abstract Crabs from the family of Portunidae are distributed widely in Indonesian waters, including the blue swimming crabs which has been exploited as a target species to meet the export demand and economic needs 3 of the capture fisheries sector. Crab catches from Portunidae family makes a major contribution to marine fisheries production in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to analyze the species diversity and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of crabs of Portunidae family in January–March 2023 in Tanjung Tiram Waters, Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The fishing area was located right across the Malacca Strait, which is congested with international shipping traffic. Data were obtained through observations and community interview. Catch per unit effort (CPUE) of crabs was analyzed. The results showed about five species of crab from the Portunidae family were caught, including Portunus pelagicus, Scylla serrata, Charybdis feriata, Charybdis affinis, and Charybdis natator. The avearga CPUE value of target species Portunus pelagicus was 8,8 kg/trip.

The Effects of Red Palm Oil, Koja Bay Leaves, and Passion Fruit Seeds Formulation on Antioxidant Activity, Antihyperlipidemia, BDNF, and Lipase Enzyme Activity on Sprague-Dawley Rats.

Local wisdom food ingredients in North Sumatra, Indonesia, are a source of phenolics which have antioxidant, antihyperlipidemia, neuronal survival, and growth. Administering products with antioxidant properties can provide a supporting effect in preventing inflammation and neurodegenerative process. The main objective of this study was to analyze the formulation of red palm oil (Elaeis guineensis Jacq), koja bay leaves (Murraya koenigii L Spreng), and passion fruit seeds (Passiflora edulis Sims) to improve lipid profile, antioxidant activity, Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), and lipase enzyme activity of Sprague-Dawley rats. This study was an in vivo and pre-post experimental study, starting with analyzing flavonoid of the three extract ingredients, then tested by giving it to rats for 14 days and ending with induction administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for two days. This pre-post study on animals involved 36 rats divided into 6 groups. At the end of the study, termination and examination of malondialdehyde, lipid profile, glucose, BDNF, lipase enzyme activity and histopathological examination were carried out. The study results showed that there were significant values in several parameters, which were body weight, LDL, LDL/HDL ratio, BDNF, and lipase enzyme activity especially in the group of rats given LPS and the group with high calories-fat-protein. This study showed that there were significant differences in body weight, LDL levels, and LDL/HDL ratio in each group of rats, especially in the group given the formulation of the three extract ingredients, the significant dose showed in 300mg/kg body weight (p < 0.001). The formulation of red palm oil, koja bay leaves, and passion fruit seeds showed significant reduction in LDL levels, LDL/HDL ratio, BDNF, and lipase enzyme activity.

Increasing the Growth of Bridal Tears Flower Stem Cuttings (Antigonon leptopus) by providing Plant Growth Regulators and Planting Media

It is imperative to implement integrated control measures for Oil Palm Leaf-Eating Caterpillars (UPDKS), as continual chemical management can result in pest resistance and environmental degradation. Utilizing natural enemies for biological control involves the utilization of predators, pest-consuming animals, as well as parasites or bacteria with pathogenic properties against pests. Examples of predators, including Sycanus leucomesus and Eocanthecona furcellata, egg parasitoids, such as Trichogrammatidea thoseae, and larval parasites, such as Chaetexorista javana, are a few of the many types of organisms that can have an impact on the populations of their prey. These indigenous predators sustain themselves by feeding on host plants within their natural habitat. The bridal tears flower (Antigonon leptopus) is considered to be one of the host plants. Thus, it is imperative to promote the growth of Antigonon leptopus in order to provide a habitat for the natural predators of the UPDKS pest. The objective of this research was to identify the components of the planting medium and to establish the most effective concentration of growth regulators for propagating bridal tears stem cuttings (Antigonon leptopus). The research was conducted at the Indonesian Palm Oil Technology Institute (ITSI) Practice Garden in Medan, North Sumatra. The research was conducted over three months, from February to April 2024. The Factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK) method was employed, with the first factor, namely S (Planting Media), comprising three levels: Top Soil without solid, Top Soil with 20% Solid, and Top Soil with 40% Solid. The second factor, namely Plant Growth Regulators, was also treated with three levels: without plant growth regulators, concentration of 100 Mg/l, and concentration of 200 Mg/l. Thus, the study comprises nine treatment combinations, each with four replications. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) table is employed to assess the significance of the observed differences, with the Duncan multiple range test (DMRT) conducted at a 5% level of significance when warranted.The findings from the research indicated that the manipulation of the planting medium composition (S) had a notable impact on the number of leaves, number of roots, and fresh weight of the roots. Additionally, it was found to have a highly significant influence on the height of the shoots. The optimal composition of the planting medium was identified as S2. The manipulation of growth regulators (R) concentration had a notable impact on shoot height and root fresh weight, as well as a highly significant effect on the number of leaves and roots. R2 exhibited the most optimal concentration of growth regulators. The growth of Antigonon leptopus stem cuttings was not affected by the combination of planting medium composition (S) and growth regulator concentration (R) in a non-interacting manner.

Crafting Language for Culinary Excellence: Customizing ESP Content to Align with Student and Industry Needs

The alignment of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) materials with the needs of students and the culinary industry is crucial for preparing graduates to excel in the competitive fields of tourism and hospitality. In particular, essential English language skills such as culinary terminology, effective communication in professional kitchen environments, and writing recipes or menus in English should be addressed more in existing curricula. This study aimed to assess the relevance and practicality of current ESP materials within the context of culinary education at an Indonesian university. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research involved 40 second-semester students who had completed a course in Professional English, along with 11 waitstaff from hotels and restaurants in West and North Sumatra. The findings revealed significant gaps in the current materials, particularly in areas critical for international customer service and multicultural teamwork, such as food presentation, customer interaction, and sanitation practices. The study concludes that English learning materials must be tailored to meet the general needs of English learners and the specialized demands of the culinary industry. Incorporating relevant terminology, practical communication skills and industry-specific content is essential for better preparing students for professional roles in catering and hospitality. The research suggests that focused classroom techniques on communication and specialized vocabulary can guide educators in developing more effective ESP materials for the culinary field.

Analisis Faktor-Faktor yang Mempengaruhi Penerimaan dari Sektor Pariwisata Pantai Timur Sumatera Utara

This research aims to analyze the influence of the number of restaurants, hotel room occupancy rates, number of foreign tourist visits, and population on the level of labor absorption on the East Coast of North Sumatra. Then to analyze the influence of the number of restaurants, hotel room occupancy rates, number of foreign tourist visits, population, labor absorption rate on tourism sector revenues on the East Coast of North Sumatra. As well as to analyze the influence of the number of restaurants, hotel room occupancy rates, number of foreign tourist visits, population on tourism sector revenues through the level of labor absorption on the East Coast of North Sumatra. The type of research used is associative research with a quantitative approach. The data used in this research are data on the number of restaurants, hotel room occupancy rates, number of foreign tourist visits, population, and regional income from the tourism sector on the East Coast of North Sumatra with a total of 12 regencies/cities for the 1-4 quarter period of 2012- 2021 taken from the North Sumatra Central Statistics Agency (BPS) with the analysis technique used is path analysis. The research results show that the number of restaurants, hotel room occupancy rates, number of foreign tourist visits, and population have a direct positive influence on the level of employment in the tourism sector on the East Coast of North Sumatra. The number of restaurants, hotel room occupancy rates, number of foreign tourist visits, population, and labor absorption rates have a direct positive influence on tourism sector revenues on the East Coast of North Sumatra. The number of restaurants, hotel room occupancy rates, number of foreign tourist visits, and population not have a direct influence on tourism sector revenues on the East Coast of North Sumatra through the level of labor absorption.

Analisis Ketimpangan Wilayah Pantai Barat dan Pantai Timur Provinsi Sumatera Utara

Inequality between regional aspects is common in regional economic activities. This study is to measure the level of regional inequality, the relationship between economic growth, poverty, and the human development index on inequality, and analyze whether there is convergence in the West Coast Region and the East Coast Region of North Sumatra Province. The study uses Williamson index calculations to measure gaps, panel data regression analysis and sigma convergence and beta convergence analysis. The results of the research show that the West Coast Region is indicated by a low level of inequality and the East Coast Region is indicated by a high level of inequality. Economic growth has a positive but not significant impact on inequality in the West Coast Region and a positive and significant impact on inequality in the East Coast Region. Poverty has a positive and significant impact on inequality in the West Coast Region and the East Coast Region. The Human Development Index has a positive and significant impact on inequality in the West Coast Region and the East Coast Region. Simultaneously, Economic Growth, Poverty and the Human Development Index have a positive and significant impact on inequality in the West Coast Region and the East Coast Region. Sigma Convergence does not occur in the West Coast Region but occurs in the East Coast Region. Beta convergence occurs in the West Coast Region and the East Coast Region.

Need Analysis of E-module Based on the Theory of Conceptual Change in Earth and Space Material for Class X of Vocational School in the Sumatra

This research examined the need for developing E-modules based on the Theory of Conceptual Change in physics education, with a focus on the topic of Earth and Space Sciences. Research method is quantitative descriptive The results of the questionnaire analysis involving teachers in 7 provinces, namely South Sumatra, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, Bengkulu, Jambi, Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau and students in 6 provinces, namely South Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Jambi, Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau shows that the average use of E-modules is still limited in schools, namely 42%, while an average of 70% of students stated that they had difficulty understanding physics concepts, especially those related to Earth and Space Sciences. Therefore, 100% of teachers and 88% of students agree that the development of E-modules based on Conceptual Change Theory needs need to do.

Omni-Channel Marketing Strategy for Lake Toba Indonesia Tourist Destinations in Attracting Foreign Tourists

Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Indonesia, is a region of significant potential for attracting international tourists due to its exceptional natural beauty and cultural richness. However, the current influx of foreign visitors remains low compared to other leading tourist destinations in Indonesia. This research investigates the development and implementation of an omni-channel marketing strategy aimed at enhancing Lake Toba's appeal to international travelers. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews with key stakeholders in the tourism industry and quantitative analysis of tourist behavior data. Key challenges identified include inadequate infrastructure, insufficient promotional efforts, and intense global competition. The research proposes strategies that integrate digital and physical marketing channels, personalize content to meet diverse traveler preferences, and leverage advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR). The findings suggest that an omni-channel approach can create a more cohesive and engaging tourist experience, thereby increasing Lake Toba's competitiveness in the global market. The research also highlights the broader implications for digital transformation in Indonesia's tourism sector and suggests directions for future studies focused on long-term impacts and scalability of omni-channel strategies.

Development of a digital app-based sambo sports book for students at high school level extracurricular activities

The survey in North Sumatra was conducted by researchers in the areas of Medan, Tanah Karo, Tebing Tinggi, Asahan, Serdang Bedagai, Deli Serdang, Labuhan Batu, Tanjung Balai, Humbahas, and Binjai, many coaches and athletes still do not have adequate guidance in Indonesian. Most of the information is still in foreign languages, making it difficult to understand Sambo's techniques and rules. This study aims to develop a digital application-based sambo sports book. Method, in this research, uses the research and development (R&amp;D) method. The research subjects consisted of 10 athletes, coaches, and sambo sports enthusiasts for the main field trial and 20 athletes, coaches, and sambo sports enthusiasts for the operational field trial. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, with instruments in the form of feasibility assessment sheets from sambo sports experts, linguists, media experts, and user subjects. Data analysis was carried out using a percentage quantitative descriptive technique. The results showed that this digital application-based sambo sports book was very good and feasible. This book has great potential to improve the understanding of sambo techniques and rules among athletes, coaches, and sambo enthusiasts by providing easy-to-understand guidelines in Indonesian and emphasizing the importance of technology-based approaches in Sambo.

DEVELOPMENT OF PEAK GROUND ACCELERATION USING A NON-LINEAR APPROACH TO EVALUATE LIQUEFACTION POTENTIAL IN SEI WAMPU BRIDGE, LANGKAT, NORTH SUMATRA, INDONESIA

The design of building structures requires compliance with seismic codes and all their consequences. Based on geotechnical investigation reports, the construction of Sei Wampu Bridge in Langkat, North Sumatra, Indonesia, is located in an area where the soil layers are predominantly sand with shallow water levels because of its proximity to a river and is a high earthquake zone due to the Semangko fault. That condition will affect the potential of liquefaction occurring. This study aims to identify the liquefaction potential in the Sei Wampu Bridge. Based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 1726-2019, sites prone to liquefaction are categorized as site class-specific soil (F) and requires site-specific response analysis (SSRA) methods. Non-linear analysis 1-D is chosen to propagate earthquake waves with the software DEEPSOIL V7. The input parameter for soil movement utilizes an average spectral matching method with a minimum of 7 pairs of soil movement selected from the earthquake recording website, PEER Ground Motion Database. The selection of earthquake considers a 1000-year earthquake load return period, or a 7% probability exceeded within 75 years. Site-specific response analysis (SSRA) resulted in a peak ground acceleration (PGA) value for each borehole depth used in liquefaction potential analysis. Using a historical earthquake scenario with a 6.3 Mw shows that the research location has liquefaction potential at 0 m-15 m deep with high vulnerability levels, where the LPI value reaches 36.21.

Pendidikan Hak Asasi Manusia dalam Kurikulum ‘Presisi’: Studi Sekolah Polisi Negara di Sumatera Utara

This article focuses on the Indonesian Police (Polri) efforts in the realization of human rights-based policing, as well as its articulation in the forming education (pendidikan pembentukan/ DIKTUKBA) of Polri, specifically at the State Police School (Sekolah Polisi Negara/SPN) in North Sumatra, established in 1960-s and one of the oldest SPN in Indonesia. Since 2021, Polri has acknowledged and developed the ‘presisi’ curriculum to become a starting point for transformation agenda and, of course, to strive Polri’s obligation in the implementation of human rights values, principles and standards in the police functions. The research applied a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data collection was employed using documents, FGD, observations and literature relevant to police and human rights issues. Respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data validation was carried out by extending observations and triangulation and analyzed using the spiral technique. Human rights-based policing through the DIKTUKBA POLRI level at the SPN Poldasu brings the vision of ‘presisi’ police through the ‘presisi’ curriculum. The ‘presisi’ curriculum offers good ways to achieve the transformation of the Polri. However, the increasingly short training period for the DIKTUKBA POLRI represents a challenge to improve human rights-based policing. The challenges affirm the correlation between human rights and policing in a dynamic police workspace. In this context, the instructors’s capacity must continuously acquire knowledge and experience. Therefore, collaboration and innovation in using learning models and methods such as group learning, problem-solving, discussion, and active involvement of students can be continuously developed.

Impact of Training and Assistance on Home Industry SMEs Development by Housewives in Klambir Lima Village

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the home industry sector managed by housewives have significant potential in supporting the local and national economy. This research aims to identify the impact of training and mentoring on the development of MSMEs in Klambir Lima Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. The research problem raised is whether the training and assistance provided can effectively improve the development of MSMEs managed by housewives. The methodology used is a quantitative approach with a census method on 49 MSME actors in the village. The research results show that training and mentoring do not have a significant impact on the development of MSMEs (t-calculated value for training -1.456 &lt; t-table 1.677; significance 0.152 &gt; 0.05 and t-calculated value for mentoring 0.739 &lt; t-table 1.677; significant 0.464 &gt; 0.05). On the other hand, the marketing aspect has a significant positive impact on the development of MSMEs (t-value 3.134 &gt; t-table 1.677; significance 0.003 &lt; 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis shows that training, mentoring and marketing simultaneously have a significant impact on the development of MSMEs (F value 3.336 &gt; F-table 2.50; significance 0.028 &lt; 0.05), with marketing as the most crucial factor. In conclusion, an effective marketing strategy is the key to increasing the productivity and development of MSMEs. More focused support on marketing aspects, as well as improving the quality of training and mentoring, is needed to help MSMEs overcome challenges and improve their performance.

THE INFLUENCE OF DIGITAL LIBRARY SERVICE QUALITY ON STUDENT SATISFACTION

This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the effect of digital service quality on student satisfaction at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. This research is a quantitative research. Data collection techniques used in the form of a questionnaire / questionnaire. The selected sample is 100 respondents based on the slovin formula. The method used is a survey research method using a quantitative data analysis approach. The data analysis technique used is data quality test, classic assumption test, and hypothesis test. The results showed that the results of the T test obtained t-count &gt; t-table or (2.327 &gt; 1.660) and the value of Sig. (0.000 &lt;0.05). This shows that there is a positive and significant influence on the quality of digital library services on the level of student satisfaction and the R Square value is 0.52, which means 52% that the magnitude of the influence of digital library service quality on student satisfaction at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra is 52%.

Studi korelasional: Meninjau kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa sekolah dasar berdasarkan resiliensi matematis

This study employs a quantitative correlational design using a survey method to collect data on students' critical thinking skills and mathematical resilience. The purpose of the research is to analyze and describe the relationship between mathematical resilience and the critical thinking abilities of fourth-grade students at a public elementary school in Gebang District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province, involving a sample of 24 students. The study was conducted during the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The research instruments used include a critical thinking skills test and a mathematical resilience questionnaire. Data analysis techniques employed in this study consist of descriptive and inferential statistics to examine the relationship between mathematical resilience and students' critical thinking abilities. The hypothesis tests utilized include correlation analysis, regression analysis, and regression coefficients. The findings indicate that mathematical resilience contributes to students' critical thinking skills, showing a positive relationship of moderate strength. Specifically, the regression analysis reveals that mathematical resilience accounts for 22.5% of the variance in the critical thinking abilities of the fourth-grade students.

The Influence of Using Instagram @Official USU Account on Image and Public Trust at Universitas Sumatera Utara Medan

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of the Instagram account @official.usu on the image and public trust at the University of North Sumatra in Medan City and to determine the level of influence between the use of the Instagram account @official.usu and the image and public trust at the University of North Sumatra in Medan City. This research method uses a quantitative approach and is carried out in Medan Baru District which consists of 6 Villages. The theories used are public relations theory, new media, image and trust. Indicators of Instagram use consist of Context, Communication, Collaboration, and Connection, indicators of image consist of Personality, Reputation, Value, and Corporate Identity, indicators of trust consist of Ability, Integrity, and Benevolence. Sampling was carried out using the Stratified Proportional Sampling and Cluster Random Sampling techniques with a sample size of 400 people. Data were collected through Google Forms which were distributed to respondents. Perancangan Buku Infografis Rumah Adat Batak Toba Sebagai Upaya Pelestarian Ragam Hias

Samosir is an island located in the middle of Lake Toba, North Sumatra Province. The tribe that inhabits this island is the Toba Batak tribe. One of its cultures is the traditional house and is a cultural wealth that should be preserved. Simanindo Village is one of the villages that still maintains the Toba Batak Traditional House. However, as time goes by and the location is far away, many young people do not know and understand about the Toba Batak traditional house. The preservation of Toba Batak culture can be threatened if the younger generation lacks knowledge about traditional houses. The purpose of this design is to create an infographic book that contains information about the Toba Batak Traditional House and its decorations that can collaborate with the local Tourism Office and Museum. This design uses the design thinking method and data analysis using SWOT. The final result of this design is an infographic book and supporting works in the form of tote bags and key chains.

The Influence of HIV/AIDS Literacy in Pregnant Women on Willingness to Undergo PMTCT Examination in Pematangsiantar City, North Sumatra, Indonesia

Background: In 2019, 2,370,473 pregnant women in Indonesia were tested for HIV, with 6,439 (0.27%) testing positive. Despite the importance of HIV testing during pregnancy to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), not all pregnant women are willing to undergo testing. This study aims to evaluate the impact of health literacy about HIV/AIDS on pregnant women’s willingness to participate in PMTCT examinations in Pematangsiantar City. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest, including a control group, was employed. The study population comprised pregnant women in Pematangsiantar City who had not undergone voluntary counseling and testing (VCT). A total of 102 participants (51 in the experimental group and 51 in the control group) were selected based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria through consecutive sampling. Health literacy was measured using the Indonesian version of the health literacy questionnaire (HLS-EU-SQ10-IND). Data were analyzed using the McNemar test with a significance level set at p &lt; 0.05. Results: In the HIV/AIDS literacy group, 32 participants (62.7%) were willing to undergo PMTCT, whereas in the control group, 32 participants (62.7%) were not willing. The literacy group showed significant improvements in willingness to undergo PMTCT after receiving information, with p-values of 0.012 (overall), 0.003 (understanding), 0.021 (assessing), and 0.007 (implementing). Conversely, the control group did not show significant changes, with p-values of 0.375, 0.210, 0.063, and 0.227, respectively. Conclusion: Health literacy about HIV/AIDS significantly enhances pregnant women’s willingness to participate in PMTCT. Increased counseling and information from health workers are crucial for improving PMTCT coverage.

Cara pemakaian mesin cara dan perawatan Mesin Pengupas Gabah Padi kepada Masyarakat Desa Amborgan Kecamatan Porsea Kabupaten Tobasa

Abstract Rice is an agricultural product that is the main consumption of the Indonesian people, especially the people of the province of North Sumatra and especially in the TOBASA area and the Amborgan Village Community, Porsea District. In an area there is usually only one unit of rice hulling machine. For the rice hulling process, most farmers do the milling at that place and often have to queue because of the many farmers who will hull the rice. Therefore, with the help of a rice hulling machine, it can make it easier for the community, especially the home industry, to speed up the rice hulling process. Therefore, the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, HKBP Nommensen University, carried out community service to the village of Amborgan Village, Porsea District, TOBASA Regency by donating and providing training on operating a rice hulling machine. The result is that the community and the district government, especially the TOBASA Regency DPRD, are very happy with this program. And the community there is helped by the tools donated by the UHN Mechanical Engineering Study Program because they can helpis the essence of all parts of a complete paper that contains 75-200 with 10pt font size and protrudes 1cm from the left margin and right margin. The Attitude of Women on the Manufacturing of the Indonesian Ulama Council of North Sumatra Regarding the Documentary Video of the Polemic of Polygamy in Indonesia: Sharing Heaven on Vice Indonesia's Youtube Channel

This research examines the cognitive, affective and conative responses of women administrators of the North Sumatra Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to the documentary video "Polygamy Polemic in Indonesia: Sharing Heaven" on the Vice Indonesia YouTube channel. This research involved non-participatory observation and in-depth interviews. There were six research informants and one triangulation informant. The information received resulted in saturated data. The results showed that the informants negotiated the film's content cognitively and affectively. Although they recognize the legal legitimacy of polygamy, they conatively refuse to engage in polygamous marriages. Apart from that, there are concerns among women administrators of the North Sumatra MUI that this broadcast could create negative stereotypes and position polygamy as an ambiguous law in Islam so that its practice is no longer relevant to carry out

Criminal Law Analysis of Online Gambling Perpetrators in Medan City

One of the impacts of technological and communication advances is now seen in the form of online gambling or known as online gambling. This technology initially only allowed online games, or games that can be accessed via smartphones connected to the internet. The research method uses a normative legal approach. Library data collection techniques/literature studies. The data analysis technique used is the conclusion drawing method. The results of the discussion found that the responsibility experienced by online gambling perpetrators is seen from the law that has been regulated in Law No. 1 of 2024 concerning ITE. So it was found that the maximum penalty for online gambling in North Sumatra is 2 years in prison. However, it can be seen that the lack of efforts made by the authorities. The factors that occur in online gambling perpetrators are divided into two parts, internal and external.
