Enhancing Human Resource Competence through Informative Communication Techniques by North Sumatra Election Supervisory Body for Preventing 2024 Election Violations

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Informative Communication Technique of the North Sumatra Election Supervisory Agency in Socializing the Prevention of Election Violations 2024. This type of research is included in field research with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out through observation and interviews with relevant parties in Bawaslu North Sumatera. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and interpretatively with a focus on explanations in the form of words, although there were some quantitative data that were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the informative communication techniques applied by Bawaslu North Sumatra were successful. There was a significant increase in public understanding of election regulations, marked by a decrease in the number of campaign violations and increased participation in reporting violations. In addition, the training and workshops conducted for political parties succeeded in increasing their level of compliance with election regulations. These communication techniques also reflect the principles of honesty, transparency and responsibility in accordance with Islamic teachings, making the electoral process more fair and democratic.

Fueling Rural: The Unseen Forces of Family Background and Psychological Factors on Youth Entrepreneurship

Understanding entrepreneurial intentions among rural youth is crucial for fostering economic development; however, this demographic remains underrepresented in entrepreneurship research. This study explores the impact of entrepreneurial family backgrounds and psychological factors-such as self-efficacy, risk-taking propensity, need for achievement, and locus of control-on entrepreneurial intentions among rural youth in Deli Serdang, North Sumatera, Indonesia. A quantitative approach was utilized, employing a cross-sectional survey with data collected from a random sample of 217 rural youth through a structured questionnaire administered in person. Data analysis was conducted using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results demonstrate that both entrepreneurial family background and psychological factors significantly influence entrepreneurial intentions. Specifically, having an entrepreneurial family background positively affects these intentions, while psychological factors also play a significant role. The study validates the research instruments and offers valuable insights into how familial and psychological influences shape entrepreneurial aspirations in rural contexts, reinforcing theories related to entrepreneurial self-efficacy, motivation, and psychological capital. For policymakers, the findings highlight the importance of supporting family-based entrepreneurial initiatives and integrating family involvement into entrepreneurial education. Educators are encouraged to incorporate psychological training to cultivate traits such as self-efficacy and resilience, while practitioners should develop supportive environments that leverage both familial and psychological resources. The study’s limitations include its focus on rural youth, which may restrict generalizability, reliance on self-reported measures, and the lack of exploration into underlying mechanisms or longitudinal effects. Future research should address these limitations by incorporating diverse populations, utilizing objective measures, and examining long-term impacts.

A premarital services education model of preventing stunting among prospective newlyweds from North Sumatera, Indonesia.

Stunting, attributed to insufficient nutrition during the critical first 1000 days of life, remains a pressing public health issue in North Sumatera, Indonesia. This study investigates the influence of pre-marital education on prospective couples' knowledge and nutritional status as a stunting prevention strategy. Employing a quantitative, cross-sectional design, the study involved 1000 prospective couples across 10 districts. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings demonstrate that pre-marital education significantly enhances knowledge of nutrition, family planning, and stunting prevention, leading to improved nutritional status. However, increased knowledge of stunting was inversely related to nutritional status. The study concludes that comprehensive pre-marital education is vital for effective stunting prevention. It recommends a thorough revision of pre-marital educational content, emphasizing a tailored and integrative approach to health and nutrition, to address specific regional challenges and enhance overall program efficacy.

Enhancing Farm Household Income Through Efficient Arabica Coffee Cultivation In Simalungun, North Sumatera

North Sumatera is the largest producer of arabica coffee in Indonesia with 29%. However, coffee farmers are always faced with various field problems such as high fertilizer prices, declining production and various traditional cultivation practices that cause low productivity levels. So that in maintaining overall cropping it is necessary to know the efficiency of farm management with efficient coffee management it can increase farmer income, improve the quality of life of farmers, absorb labor, reduce costs and create a sustainable system. The method used in this research is to use the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model to determine the efficient value and the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) model to determine the efficient influence. The results of this research with the DEA model show that from a total of 133 respondents, the inefficient value is 51%, low efficient 25%, medium efficient 13%, and low efficient 11%. While the OLS model shows that the total cost and total income of farmers can significantly affect the efficiency value, the total production of farmers has no influence on the efficiency value. The research findings imply that improving efficiency requires modernizing technology to overcome traditional management such as the use of superior seeds and fertilizer inputs to increase land production. It also requires the support of relevant policies and institutions that are able to guarantee the availability of production facilities such as superior seeds and fertilizers that are easily available to farmers at affordable prices.

The Effect of Investment, Poor Resident, and International Tourists on Gross Regional Domestic Product In North Sumatera in 2001-2020

This study aims to determine the effect of the investment sector, poor people, and foreign tourists on economic growth in North Sumatra. This research uses descriptive quantitative research methods. The data used in this study are secondary data and time series data for 2001-2020. The results in this study indicate that investment has a positive and significant effect on GRDP in North Sumatra, the poor have a negative and significant effect on GRDP in North Sumatra, foreign tourists have a positive and significant effect on GRDP in North Sumatra.

Integrating Malay Local Wisdom in English Learning: Students’ Perception at State Junior High School 1 in Tanjung Pura Regency of North Sumatera Province

Integrating local wisdom into the English learning process is essential to preserve cultural identity and promote a more meaningful and relevant learning experience for students. This study aimed to explore students' perceptions on the importance of integrating local wisdom of the Malay community in English language learning. A qualitative approach was applied, which involved a survey of 27. The results showed that most students believe that the integration of local wisdom of the Malay community in English language learning is important. They recognized the potential benefits, including increased cultural understanding, better language learning motivation, and development of 21st century skills. However, the students also identified some challenges, such as the limited availability of learning resources that integrate the local wisdom of the Malay community and the need for better teacher training in this area. The findings of this study indicated that students were generally open to the integration of Malay local wisdom in English language learning, but there needs to be a more systematic and comprehensive effort to address the identified challenges. Implications for curriculum development, teacher professional development, and learning resource design to integrate local wisdom of the Malay community in English textbooks.

Nutrient Concentration, Water Brightness, Chlorophyll-a, and Phytoplankton Abundance as Indicators for Determining the Trophic Status of Lake Toba, North Sumatera - Indonesia

The purpose of this study was to investigate the water quality and phytoplankton abundance in Lake Toba to determine its trophic status. This research was conducted from January to March 2024 at four stations in Lake Toba. Water samples were taken using a UWITEC water sampler and a plankton net and brought to the laboratory for analysis. The study measured physical and chemical water quality and phytoplankton abundance. The results showed a brightness ranging between 5.8 and 6.3 meters, chlorophyll-a content <10 µg/L, total nitrogen <750 µg/L, and phosphorus ranging from 20 µg/L to 30 µg/L. Based on these parameters, the nutrient quality of Lake Toba was classified as mesotrophic. Phytoplankton abundance ranged from 22,514 to 33,475 individuals/L, with 33 genera identified across nine classes: Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Coscinodiscophyceae, Dinophyceae, Euglenida, Fragilariophyceae, Mediophyceae, and Zygnemophyceae. The diversity index (H') was 2.631 - 2.723, the uniformity index (E) was 0.828 - 0.872, and the percentage of blue-green algae was 14.75 - 20.85. Zygnemophyceae was the most dominant phytoplankton class, with Staurastrum sp. being the most prevalent species. In conclusion, Lake Toba's waters are categorized as mesotrophic based on the chemical parameters and as eutrophic based on phytoplankton abundance, indicating potential nutrient enrichment issues that warrant further investigation.

Maternal factors associated with stunting among children under two years in South Nias, Indonesia: a cross-sectional study

The Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey 2022 reported that the prevalence of stunted children in South Nias, a district in North Sumatera, was 27.2%, higher than the regional and national prevalence of stunting. Stunting can be caused by many factors including maternal nutritional status, exclusive breastfeeding, and inadequate food intake. This research aims is to analyze the relationship between maternal factors and cases of stunting in children under two years at Somambawa Community Health Center, South Nias Regency. It was a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. Using a total sampling technique, 72 mothers with children under two years were included in the study. Exact fisher statistical and logical regression tests were carried out in bivariate and multivariate analyses. This study found that there was a significant relationship between antenatal care visits (p-value=0.000) and exclusive breastfeeding (p-value=0.000) with stunting in children under two years old. Exclusive breastfeeding was the most dominant predictor of stunting in the study, namely 84 times (p-value=0.000; OR 84.00). Meanwhile, complementary feeding and knowledge did not show a significant relationship with stunting. Therefore, health education to provide information and knowledge about stunting, especially about exclusive breastfeeding and complementary food for babies is suggested.

The Need for a Model of Accompanying Family Members for Elderly with Covid-19 During Isolation at Sembiring Delitua Public Hospital North Sumatera, Indonesia to Avoid Anxiety

Background: Older adults are a population more prone to anxiety when placed in isolation in hospitals because of COVID-19 exposure. This worry may jeopardize the mental well-being of senior Covid-19 patients. Aim: To preserve mental health in older individuals with Covid-19, anxiety treatment is essential. Providing support to family members during hospital isolation can help older patients overcome their fear. Methods: The investigators employed various methodologies to conduct the investigation. We developed a retrospective model because we couldn't conduct testing. The study examined isolated elderly patients who received assistance versus those who did not. Each group in the quantitative study included 11 elderly individuals, with the case group comprising 10 nurses and 11 companions. Results: The study revealed that older individuals who received support from their children during isolation experienced less anxiety compared to those who did not receive such assistance, the difference is significant. Conclusion: Older adults with Covid-19 who get support from their kids while undergoing inpatient confinement can conquer fear. To ensure effective recovery for their elderly loved ones, family members must visit, communicate with, and aid them during hospital isolation.

TEACHER'S EXPERIENCE IN TEACHING ENGLISH TOWARDS DEAF STUDENTS

This study examines the experiences and strategies of a teacher specialized in English instruction for deaf students at special need school in Medan North Sumatera Indonesia. Since 2017 the teacher has navigated significant challenges, including communication barriers and emotional strain, by integrating sign language (SIBI and Bisindo) into daily interactions and instructional methods. Initial self-learning of sign language, followed by formal training from the North Sumatera Language Center, highlights the critical role of effective communication in enhancing educational outcomes for deaf students. The teacher’s adaptive strategies include simplifying lesson content, employing visual aids, and incorporating sign language into English instruction. Innovative methods such as “English day” in morning assemblies underscore the teacher’s commitment to engaging students despite their disabilities. However, obstacles persist, including limited vocabulary, the complexities of teaching a foreign language to students struggling with their narrative language, and systematic issues like lack of resources and societal skepticism. Emotional management and building trust with students are central to the teacher’s approach, demonstrating a holistic commitment to their emotional and academic development. The teacher’s resilience and empathy, supported by the school’s flexible approach, have fostered positive student engagement and progress.

Analysis of the implementation of the waqf core principles on institutional financial performance waqf in Tanjungbalai, North Sumatera

Purpose: To analyze the effect of implementing a legal foundation, waqf supervision, good waqf governance, risk management, and Sharia governance on the financial performance of waqf institutions. Research Methodology: The research approach used in this study is a quantitative approach, with an associative type of quantitative research and a correlational quantitative research design that examines the relationship between two variables. The research data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical software. Results: The implementation of legal foundation, waqf supervision, good waqf governance, risk management, and Sharia governance have a positive and significant effect on the financial performance of the waqf institution in Tanjungbalai city. Then, based on the multiple linear regression equation, the variable that has the greatest influence on the financial performance of the waqf institution (Y) is good waqf governance (X3), followed by risk management (X4), Sharia governance (X5), legal foundation (X1), and Waqf supervision (X2). Limitations: As the scope of the search is not biased, it can focus more on avoiding errors in the objectives to be achieved. This study focuses on the implementation of the Waqf Core Principles for the financial performance of waqf institutions. Contributions: The results of this study may constitute a reference and provide information for future researchers who will discuss the development of waqf in North Sumatra. Thus, this research can be used as an input for recommendations to improve staffing institutions. The results of this study can be used as a basis for further study, revision, and development than previous research.

Prevalence and distribution of intestinal parasitic infections in taeniasis endemic area of North Sumatera, Indonesia.

A group of helminthic and intestinal protozoa causes intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs), affecting more than 2.5 billion people worldwide. IPIs are diseases closely associated with poor hygiene and sanitation, concentrated in underdeveloped regions and among populations with low socioeconomic status. Consequently, most prevalence is in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, with local habits or risk factors that could affect its prevalence. The aim of this study was to determine how hygienic practices, sanitation, and local behavior of eating raw meat (hinasumba) contributed to the prevalence of IPI. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Simalungun District of North Sumatera Province, involving 428 people of Batak Simalungun. There were 15 villages randomly selected across the district based on the local registry, which consequently, non-purposive sampling was conducted. Face-to-face interviews assessed various risk factors, such as demographic characteristics, water source, traditional raw meat consumption, or hinasumba as local risk factors, hygienic practices, and sanitation. The findings indicated that an overall prevalence rate of IPI was 42.9%, consisting of 87.5% with helminthic infection and 12.5% with protozoal infection. More than half of IPI cases were associated with Taenia sp. infections (21.8%), followed by hookworms' infections with a 6.1% positivity rate. Based on multivariate analysis, farming and consuming traditional delicacies, namely hinasumba, increased the likelihood of IPI occurrence among the population by 1.7 and 3 times, respectively. It can be concluded that the high prevalence of taeniasis in the study area was associated with local behavior and hinasumba consumption, which may contribute to determining the dominance of specific IPI species.

Digital Literacy Strategy Encourages Electronic MSMEs to Go Online

The Covid-19 pandemic has reduced people's purchasing power and made people's activities all online. Digital literacy needs to be carried out by MSME actors, especially Electronic MSMEs, where they still carry out offline buying and selling activities both in terms of promotion, marketing, and service communication. This study aims to determine the implementation of digital literacy for Electronic MSME actors to go online. Digital literacy is an effort to change and develop activities based on skills and knowledge by using technology. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach using data analysis techniques Reduction, Display and Conclusion. This research was conducted at the Electronic MSMEs, Padangsidimpuan City, North Sumatera. The results showed that 88% of the understanding of Electronic MSME technology was based on the digital literacy capabilities they had, obtained through digital literacy activities carried out and received many benefits for the online sales system.

Digital and Non-Digital Services Influence on Costumers Satisfaction Through Syariah Bank Transactions

This study seeks to determine the impact of digital services, such as mobile banking, e-commerce, and flexible cashless payments, as well as non-digital services like teller services, customer services, and deposit boxes, on customer satisfaction. Specifically focusing on the university students at Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatera (UMSU), the study employed purposive sampling by selecting FAI students who have used mobile banking and other digital services in Islamic banking. The data analysis was conducted using SPSS through three main steps: instrument test, classical assumption test, and hypothesis test. The findings of this research reveal that both digital and non-digital services have a partial and simultaneous impact on customer satisfaction. In line with these results, Islamic bank digital services were found to be in demand among users. Therefore, banks are encouraged to enhance both digital and non-digital services as a strategic approach to attract more customers and enhance overall service quality.

Ecological, Socioeconomic, and Economic Factors Shaping Vegetable Oil Production in the Batak People Community of North Sumatera

Abstract This research delves into the intricate interplay between ecological, socioeconomic, and economic factors in the production of vegetable oils, with a specific focus on the Batak People community in Tapanuli-Toba Samosir, North Sumatra. The research highlights the profound importance of considering these multifaceted aspects within the context of farmers’ labour rights and community empowerment, thereby illuminating the industry’s broader implications. The study is structured into three principal dimensions: ecological consideration, socioeconomic dimensions, and economic viability. The study assesses farmers’ working conditions and wages, their engagement with national and international labour standards, and the extent to which the vegetable oil industry influences the socioeconomic well-being of the Batak People community. It analyses market dynamics, value chain processes, and the influence of government policies and subsidies on the industry’s economic prospects. By doing so, the research aims to discern how the vegetable oil industry can contribute to the region’s broader economic development. To foster knowledge exchange and collaborative problem-solving, an international seminar is proposed. This seminar will bring together academics, government researchers, industry experts, and community representatives. The event’s objectives include sharing research findings, addressing industry challenges, expanding networks, and crafting a sustainable framework for the vegetable oil sector. This research, alongside the international seminar, seeks to enhance our comprehension of encouraging sustainable practices and formulating policies that can serve as models for similar regions.
