The dispersion relations obtained from the approximate dynamical theory of torsion developed in [1] for the problem of plane waves propagating in an infinite circular cylinder are compared with the corresponding relations of the exact three-dimensional theory and are found to be in close agreement. End effects in static torsion are investigated and the solution to a problem of the non-axisymmetric torsion of a circular rod is obtained. It is found that the rate of decay of non-axisymmetric end effects is slower than that of the analogous axisymmetric end effects.
