The methods of use of the Ellis Nominal Standard Dose equation are described; this equation relates dose, number of fractions and time of treatment to a parameter representing normal tissue tolerance. The equation is in an index form and is inconvenient to solve. A specially constructed slide-rule calculator is described which facilitates the evaluation of the treatment parameters.
