Significance to Forestry of the Dahlem Conference on Global Chemical Cycles and their Alteration by Man

Abstract Conferees debated whether forests are places where excess carbon dioxide can be disposed of, or whether they are sources for generating the compound and passing it into the global cycle. The role of forests in carbon supply seems to depend upon management practices. Information on the carbon cycle and on release of nitrogen oxides is very incomplete. Forest scientists should begin to accumulate data needed to develop correct policies.
