The findings of the second national survey of NHS staff in England, carried out by the Health Commission, suggests that although there have been some improvements in the working conditions of NHS staff, there are still aspects that are a cause of serious concern. In particular, over half of NHS staff reported that they regularly work unpaid overtime and one in four staff have been harassed or abused by patients or their relatives in the past year (Health Commission, 2005).
