The Impact of Credibility of the News Source DETIK.COM on the Confidence of Tama Jagakarsa Students’ University in the Accuracy of News Reports

Selecting a trustworthy and credibility news source is essential to avoiding falling for hoaxes or fake news, as there are still plenty of online news managers who post news that is interesting but ultimately less significant just for readers' attention to the website. People become extremely picky when they are looking for information, and one of the most crucial things to consider when choosing an information source is its reliability. One example of an online media that helps prioritize journalistic ethical norms and rules is Detik.com. It is the first independent online news site that can survive without the backing of print media. factual and true news presented in a style that is accessible to readers of all backgrounds and employs structured writing. Detik.com constantly aims to give the best for all readers in Indonesia to win the trust of devoted readers. Because there are variables where relationships will be studied, and the goal is to provide a structured, factual description of the facts of the relationship between the variables studied. This research employs a quantitative method with a descriptive approach, through a survey using a questionnaire as a data collection instrument. The independent variable (X) is "Credibility of the Information Source," whereas the dependent variable (Y) is "Trust in the Accuracy of the News." This study takes a quantitative method since it tests variables with variable X (Credibility of News Sources) and variable Y (Trust in News Accuracy). The population in this study was FIKOM students from TAMA Jagakarsa University, with a total of 230 students from all concentrations, and the sample size was 146 responders. The goal of this study is to determine "how significant the credibility of Detik.Com news sources is on TAMA Communication Students' trust in news accuracy." The result of this study has a significant impact on students' faith in Detik.Com news accuracy.

Transnational Mediation of Sports: Attention and Verbal Framing of Men’s Handball Teams and Athletes on Danish, German, and Romanian Online Sports News Sites

Handball’s mediation and framing in the media can be linked to the popularity and likeability of the sport. The research question is how online sports news sites portray men’s handball teams and athletes in terms of popularity, likeability, and associated verbal framings. Attention is analyzed from the perspectives of frequency of media coverage via the quantitative data in Danish, German, and Romanian most read sports news sites (Denmark - Exstra Bladet, Germany - Kicker, Romania - Gazeta Sporturilor), Madrigal’s fandom idioms dimensions and the ‘News Factors’ by Harcup and O’Neill. The time frame for the analysis covers the men’s European Handball League in 2021-22. From a population size of sports news articles N = 1100, considering a confidence level of Z = 95% with a margin of error of MOEi = 5% and a sample proportion pˆ =0.5. A sample size of n = 285 articles was defined, from which this paper includes a first batch of n1 = 41 articles from this ongoing research.

This paper studies the devastating effect of cybercrime in the Indian banking sector, existing cyber security landscapes to curb the effects of cyber threats, and measures to protect the Indian banking sector. The study is based on secondary data collected from various online sources, articles, research papers, government portals, news sites, etc. It is also required for case studies of cyber crimes that have led to significant financial loss in recent years. This paper will look into cyber security measures that will help financial institutions, banks, and society by dealing with cyber-attacks that can be prevented for better security.

BIG DATA PIPELINE INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN IN MSME E-COMMERCE SYSTEMS WITH A FOCUS ON DATA SOURCE PROCESSING USING ORCHESTRATION TOOLS

In the digital era, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) need to utilize data to improve their business performance, such as increasing customer targets, product development and pricing strategies. Apache Airflow is a powerful tool for building data scraping pipelines that are scalable, flexible, and easy to monitor. One of them is the Central Java MSME data scraping pipeline, which collects business registration information, business type, location, contacts, products, and financial information from various websites, including the Central Java Provincial Government website, basic goods price comparison tables, and specialized news sites. The captured data is stored in a data warehouse for further analysis by the Central Java souvenir entrepreneurs association (ASPOO) in the region. Apache Airflow is used to manage the scraping pipeline in the Central Java MSME E-Commerce system and ensure it runs smoothly. Apache Airflow also has a built-in dashboard for monitoring pipelines and troubleshooting issues. Overall, scraping pipeline in the Central Java MSME e-commerce system is a valuable tool for collecting and analyzing data on the MSME sector in Central Java. This pipeline is scalable, flexible and easy to use, and can be adapted to different user needs and can be integrated with various systems.

Reliability Criteria for News Websites

Misinformation poses a threat to democracy and to people’s health. Reliability criteria for news websites can help people identify misinformation. But despite their importance, there has been no empirically substantiated list of criteria for distinguishing reliable from unreliable news websites. We identify reliability criteria, describe how they are applied in practice, and compare them to prior work. Based on our analysis, we distinguish between manipulable and less manipulable criteria and compare politically diverse laypeople as end-users and journalists as expert users. We discuss 11 widely recognized criteria, including the following 6 criteria that are difficult to manipulate: content, political alignment, authors, professional standards, what sources are used, and a website’s reputation. Finally, we describe how technology may be able to support people in applying these criteria in practice to assess the reliability of websites.

Diasporic Epistemologies in Cuban Independent Journalism

This article examines how digital diasporic journalism changes epistemic practices in the Cuban context. The last decade has seen a practical transnationalization of digitally native independent news sites in Cuba in light of two phenomena: the emigration/forced exile of many young journalists and the affordances of digital technologies, making it possible for these journalists to continue reporting despite their spatial dispersion abroad. How are digital and diasporic ways of knowing changing Cuban journalists’ epistemic practices? By taking a relational approach, we explore digital diasporas as a site of connectivity co-inhabited by multiple and hybrid traveling imaginaries. The article is based on 44 interviews with Cuban independent journalists, which are analyzed through postfoundational discourse analysis (PDA) and situational mapping. The data reveals three important epistemological cleavages that shape digital diasporic journalists’ access to knowledge. These are (1) place as an epistemic category, (2) the epistemic status they confer on themselves and other social actors, and (3) the autonomy they claim when constructing clear boundaries between journalism, activism, and propaganda.

Agriculture in Protected Areas of Latin America: News Website Review

There is a close relationship between agriculture and protected areas/conservation units, because the main activity in most human settlements in these areas is agriculture, which depending on the management and type of crop can benefit or affect said territories. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between agriculture and protected areas/conservation units in Latin America, as it reveals the weaknesses or strengths that influence conservation objectives. A systematic review of articles published in the media on agriculture in protected areas/conservation units in Latin America was conducted. The results of the news analysis were supported by scientific information endorsed by different authors, revealing a common pattern in most Latin American countries, with similar contexts based on the exploitation of natural resources and the development of social conflicts (illegal activities, state negligence, and corruption), as well as the existence of projection in management and good agricultural practices. The result was an evident lack of governance and control by responsible authors with objectives other than conservation. However, there is an effort to achieve a harmonious relationship between human activities and the conservation of areas, aimed at finding alternatives that mitigate socio-environmental impacts. Finally, the results provide an analysis that unifies scientific information from different authors and current news material, generating wide, varied, and reliable information that improves scientific literature.

“The modesty guard” reflected in online comments in mainstream news sites

PurposeAt times, a traditional minority group that opposes a change in the patriarchal structure is violent toward women who wish to adopt modern lifestyles. This study aims to examine online comments regarding a shooting at a café in an Arab-Bedouin city in Israel, where women were employed as servers. The event was framed in Israeli media as an act of backlash by young men, who call themselves “The Modesty Guard.”Design/methodology/approachIn this qualitative study, the authors collected 916 online comments that were published on five main online news sites. A thematic and rhetorical analysis of online comments was conducted.FindingsThe findings uncovered five main themes: the expression of support for Bedouin women; ideas for dealing with the Modesty Guard; blaming Bedouin tradition for the shooting; comparison of the violent behavior to a parallel phenomenon among Charedim; and criticism of the lack of treatment by Israeli security forces. The responses reflected a supportive stance toward Arab-Bedouin women, who were open to progress. Conflict discourse, however, expressed alienation and increased social-national schism between the Jewish majority and Arab-Bedouin minority groups in Israel.Originality/valueThis study sheds light on the backlash phenomenon in Negev Bedouin society. Moreover, it exposes the lack of significant supportive actions and a lack of understanding of the deep processes unfolding in this traditional society.

Deep learning-based information retrieval with normalized dominant feature subset and weighted vector model

Multimedia data, which includes textual information, is employed in a variety of practical computer vision applications. More than a million new records are added to social media and news sites every day, and the text content they contain has gotten increasingly complex. Finding a meaningful text record in an archive might be challenging for computer vision researchers. Most image searches still employ the tried and true language-based techniques of query text and metadata. Substantial work has been done in the past two decades on content-based text retrieval and analysis that still has limitations. The importance of feature extraction in search engines is often overlooked. Web and product search engines, recommendation systems, and question-answering activities frequently leverage these features. Extracting high-quality machine learning features from large text volumes is a challenge for many open-source software packages. Creating an effective feature set manually is a time-consuming process, but with deep learning, new actual feature demos from training data are analyzed. As a novel feature extraction method, deep learning has made great strides in text mining. Automatically training a deep learning model with the most pertinent text attributes requires massive datasets with millions of variables. In this research, a Normalized Dominant Feature Subset with Weighted Vector Model (NDFS-WVM) is proposed that is used for feature extraction and selection for information retrieval from big data using natural language processing models. The suggested model outperforms the conventional models in terms of text retrieval. The proposed model achieves 98.6% accuracy in information retrieval.

A novel framework for an intelligent deep learning based product recommendation system using sentiment analysis (SA)

Social media and e-commerce are the two most prominent and quickly expanding industries today. These two areas exhibit the greatest influence on platform users. Numerous new people sign up for these networks on a daily basis. This platform offers extremely quick user networking and communication. These platforms are used to create an online product-based recommender system that will help grow online business by recommending products. Online product recommendations are entirely dependent on the views, feedback, and comments of consumers. Online recommender systems have become a regular part of consumers’ everyday routines, with their widespread use observed in e-commerce, social networking platforms, and news websites. This paper offers a novel framework for product recommendation based on sentiment analysis (SA) and collaborative filtering (CF). The SA was performed using an LSTM-based model. On the basis of CF, two distinct recommendation systems were built. The proposed SA model was integrated with the best recommendation system to enhance the recommendations. The experimental findings showed that the proposed system for product recommendation outperformed the existing methods. The outcomes demonstrated the potential of combining CF and SA to improve consumer satisfaction and product recommendation in e-commerce systems.

Analysis of university online reputation-visibility. The case of Spanish public universities

ABSTRACT University reputation is a key element of the institutional strategy, and it is affected by the development of the Internet and digital media as a place for debate and exchange of views. Reputation is the common perception of an object or person, and the Internet is the place where most communication takes place today, so the purpose of this work is to carry out an analysis of the reputation of Spanish public universities in the online environment. The behaviour of Spanish public universities and their repercussions in different media (Twitter, forum, blogs, news websites) are analysed. The main results indicate that notoriety is correlated with the research activity indicators of the universities. From the results obtained, it is possible to formulate some recommendations addressed to university management and administration to promote scientific dissemination and improve the communication of the institutions in such a way that their global reputation may benefit.

An Eye-tracking Study: Investigating the Impact of Website Theme Colors on Viewer Engagement

The Internet’s rapid evolution has transformed the media landscape, prompting brands and companies to transition from traditional print and TV to online media. Enhancing website design has become a focal point for effectively conveying information and capturing users’ attention. Among the various elements involved, the choice of web page theme color stands out as a crucial visual component in web navigation, significantly impacting the viewer’s user experience. Investigating the influence of web page colors on viewer attention is imperative. This study employs eye-tracking technology to delve into the impact of diverse web page colors on participants’ attention, particularly on news websites. An eye tracker was employed to meticulously record participants’ gaze patterns while browsing by experimenting with new pages featuring distinct theme colors. Data analysis revealed that red and blue colors garnered the most attention from viewers, followed by yellow, while gray-themed sites performed the least effectively in this regard. These findings offer valuable insights for web design improvement. In the context of news websites, red and blue are particularly effective in capturing and guiding people’s attention. When emphasizing or conveying breaking news, incorporating blue or red icons or relevant elements can be a powerful means of communication; however, it is equally important to be mindful of the potential for viewer visual fatigue when using highly saturated colors over a significant area. Therefore, designers must exercise care in determining the color balance when employing high-contrast and high-saturation hues.

Political orientation of online media sources and reporting of Covid-19 vaccine myocarditis.

Political orientation may play a formative role in perceptions of risk associated with COVID-19 vaccination including vaccine myocarditis (CVM). Whether political alignment of news sources plays a role in perception of this risk is unknown. We examined the relationship between political orientation of online media sites and aspects of reporting of CVM. Media sites were classified as "left" or "right" biased using the Allsides media bias rating report. For each site "COVID vaccine myocarditis" was searched in articles posted May 2021 to December 2022. Each search return was reviewed for the following: 1) Did it contain numerical data regarding CVM risk? 2) Did it report benefits of covid vaccination? 3) Did it mention covid infection-related myocarditis? Monthly reports of vaccine-related adverse events were obtained from the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS). A total of 487 online reports regarding CVM were reviewed. Comparison of monthly report volumes from left vs. right biased media sources demonstrated significant correlation (r = 0.546, p = 0.013). Additionally monthly reporting of CVM was temporally related to monthly volume of VAERS reporting (r = 0.519, p = 0.023). These data suggest that monthly reporting volumes were driven by availability of information regarding CVM rather than media political alignment. Left biased media sources were significantly more likely to include numerical CVM data vs. right biased sources (76.6% vs. 24.3%, p<0.001) and likewise were more likely to include data supporting benefits of covid vaccination (85.1% vs. 21.7%. p<0.001). In contrast, there was no difference regarding mention of COVID-19 infection-related myocarditis (24.5% vs. 24.3%, p = 0.957). Political orientation of online news sites was not associated with frequency of CVM reports but was related to report content, most notably whether reports included numerical data regarding CVM risk. These differential reporting characteristics may contribute to the relationship between political orientation and patient conceptualization of risk of CVM.

Measuring the Effect of Presentational Context and Image Authorship on the Credibility Perceptions of Newsworthy Images

Photojournalists publish images they have created in news publications and on social media, and images captured by ordinary citizens sometimes appear in journalism spaces. This study examines how the professionalism of a photograph’s authorship and presentational context influence the perceived credibility of the image using a two (photographer; staff or amateur) by two (image presentational context; news site or social media) quasi experiment. The small difference in how respondents rate the credibility of the images suggests that, broadly, participants in this study are willing to accept newsworthy images as credible on social media, and social media images as credible in the news.

Rejuvenated Ascendency of Taliban in Afghanistan Examined through International Legal Lenses

The ultraconservative Islamic group Taliban has once again secured the land of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, renaming the country as the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.” Power change in national territories becomes an international issue when the authority in power challenges international legal standards during the modification and teases the responsibility and obligations of the international community. This paper is penned to find out the legality of the process of the Taliban’s acquirement of domination upon Afghanistan, the appropriacy of Shariah principles used in different aspects of conduct in Afghanistan, the reasons behind the lack of support by the international community while discussing these issues from a legal viewpoint. There are several allegations in the media against the Taliban rulers for drastically violating International Humanitarian and Human Rights laws. Moreover, some speculations are incentivized by Islamophobia and news of terribly dropped life standards in Afghanistan. Though the United Nations (hereinafter, mentioned as UN) is continuing with remarkable humanitarian support in that terrain, the state responsibility regarding the disastrous conditions of the Afghans, is not a matter to be waived off. National statutes, Shariah law principles, international instruments, newspaper and non-academic articles, journal articles, official reports by international organizations, reports of meetings of experts, and Afghan Human Rights Organization, and news media, websites, and books are the sources used to aggregate qualitative data for the discussion. The findings will highlight and clarify the reasons behind the little to no support for the Taliban, exhibited by the international community.

AMBIGUITY AS A LOGICAL FALLACY: THE PROJECTION OF ARISTOTLE'S REASONING TOPS ONTO CONTEMPORARY MEDIA DISCOURSE

The article considers ambiguity as an error resulting from the violation of the basic laws of logic. Its relevance is conditioned by poorly expressed interdisciplinarity in existing linguistic studies, which inevitably entails the lack of a well-established approach. Aristotle’s works devoted to logic and specifically to logical errors are an inexhaustible source of knowledge for the modern scientist. In the process of their study, the connection between logic and linguistics becomes more obvious, allowing a deeper and more detailed consideration of the nature of ambiguity as a paralogism or sophism. The article deals with the reasons for the emergence of ambiguity in speech as a violation of speech accuracy, builds a subsequent typology of ambiguity, and suggests potential ways of its neutralization. The material for the study was microtexts taken from the news website The Mirror.

Implementation of Sustainable City Concept in New Capital City Development Planning

New capital City development will be carried out in the Eastern Kalimantan region with the concept of a sustainable city. The research aims to find out whether the planning process carried out in new capital city development is in line with the concept of the sustainable city according to the Research Triangle Institute (1996) with indicators of ecology, economy, Society equity, engagement, and energy. The research uses qualitative methods through a descriptive approach using secondary data that comes from online news sites and previous research. Based on the results of this research, implementation of the concept of a sustainable city in New capital city development planning shows that (a) engagement aspects have shown the involvement of stakeholders of the community and investors; (b) environmental aspects have applied efforts of conservation of biodiversity and waste management in planning this development; (c) in energy aspects has taken into account the planning of intelligent building concepts and environmentally friendly transportation; (d) the society aspects is marked by the availability of facilities and services Education as well as Health; (e) in economic aspects take into consideration the development of the agriculture and plantation industry and development of ecosystems.
