An Improved Particle Swarm Optimisation Method for Performance Evaluation of Instructors

Performance evaluation of counselors plays a vital role for education industry (schools, colleges, universities, and vocational colleges). The problem can be stated with the phrases; how to design reasonable and appropriate performance indicators? The objective of this research is to design an effective performance evaluation. The purpose of this study is to explore a new method of performance evaluation that combines strategic goals with personal development goals. The purpose of performance evaluation is to better motivate the enthusiasm of counselors. With the methodology, a new issue faced at modern colleges and universities is being resolved. Therefore, for explaining methodology, this study has carried out the application analysis of the fusion particle swarm algorithm (FPSA) in the performance evaluation of instructors. First, on the basis of comprehensive analysis of performance evaluation, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of university performance evaluation. Secondly, particle swarm and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation methods are used in the research of instructor performance evaluation. Pass the superiority of this assessment system. Index parameter evaluation is from 2.5 to 3.0. The range indicates an excellent value. In result this improved particle swarm can be compared with the state of the art (Liu et al., 2019). In conclusive remarks, this study is to provide state-of-the-art study for the current research on the topic of instructor performance appraisal in colleges and universities.

A Suggested Method for Performance Evaluation of Large Scale Fireproof Shutters

Currently, there is a limitation in the performance evaluation of a large fireproof shutter due to the constraint of the maximum size of the test equipment (3 m × 3 m). In particular, the longer the maximum span of a large fireproof shutter, the greater the fire load. Accordingly, the deformation of the large fireproof shutter is increased. The fire fragile area between the guide rails at both ends of the large fireproof shutter and the body of the fireproof shutter increases, and at the same time, the possibility of flame passing through the fragile area increases. However, the reduced-scale test is performed without reflecting the above-mentioned problems, and the maximum span of 8 m specified in KS F 4510 is widely used. Therefore, the author suggests a new method for performance evaluation of large-scale fireproof shutter, which can reflect the fire vulnerabilities of large fireproof shutter with increasing span.

A new method for performance evaluation of decision-making units with application to service industry

The decision-making units (DMUs) in the modern service industries may produce desirable outputs and undesirable outputs. For the decision makers, some outputs may be more desired than others although all of them are desirable. Considering these characteristics, this work combines the data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the multiple attributes decision-making (MADM) method, to make a reasonable and comprehensive performance evaluation for DMUs. Specifically, three DEA-based models are modified to obtain more reasonable efficiency scores for DMUs. The MADM method is used to determine the weights of outputs based on the preference ratings within the outputs. The efficiency scores are then multiplied by the aggregated outputs quantities to obtain the comprehensive performance scores for evaluation. The effectiveness of the proposed models is demonstrated by extensive numerical experiments.

Device and method for evaluating the performance of dry electrode for fabric surface bioelectricity

In order to quantitatively evaluate the performance of dry electrode for fabric surface bioelectricity, a set of active measuring devices that can simulate electrocardiosignal has been developed on the basis of passive system by our group. Five Ag/AgCl fabric dry electrodes were selected to test and evaluate the devices. The results show that the deviation ratios of peak time interval of the five electrodes are all less than 1%. The maximum voltage amplitude decay rate is 7.2%, and the noise amplitudes are lower than 0.004 mV. The variable coefficient of peak time offset is less than 8%. The variable coefficient of voltage amplitude is less than 2%. The variable coefficient of noise amplitude is less than 10%. Research shows the devices has good repeatability and stability in measuring the simulated electrocardiosignal. The active measuring devices proposed in this paper can provide a new method for performance evaluation and standard formulation of surface bioelectricity dry electrode.

Multi-scale texture-based level-set segmentation of breast B-mode images

Automatic segmentation of ultrasonographic breast lesions is very challenging, due to the lesions′ spiculated nature and the variance in shape and texture of the B-mode ultrasound images. Many studies have tried to answer this challenge by applying a variety of computational methods including: Markov random field, artificial neural networks, and active contours and level-set techniques. These studies focused on creating an automatic contour, with maximal resemblance to a manual contour, delineated by a trained radiologist. In this study, we have developed an algorithm, designed to capture the spiculated boundary of the lesion by using the properties from the corresponding ultrasonic image. This is primarily achieved through a unique multi-scale texture identifier (inspired by visual system models) integrated in a level-set framework. The algorithm׳s performance has been evaluated quantitatively via contour-based and region-based error metrics. We compared the algorithm–generated contour to a manual contour delineated by an expert radiologist. In addition, we suggest here a new method for performance evaluation where corrections made by the radiologist replace the algorithm-generated (original) result in the correction zones. The resulting corrected contour is then compared to the original version. The evaluation showed: (1) Mean absolute error of 0.5 pixels between the original and the corrected contour; (2) Overlapping area of 99.2% between the lesion regions, obtained by the algorithm and the corrected contour. These results are significantly better than those previously reported. In addition, we have examined the potential of our segmentation results to contribute to the discrimination between malignant and benign lesions.

Research on Evaluating the Operation of Power Supply Companies

Power supply companies undertake the important duties of transmission, distribution, the sales of electricity and other social services in the power system, the quality of whose operating conditions directly affect the sustainable development of the corporations and the normal operation of the entire electricity market. The tailored and comprehensive evaluation system to operating conditions in power supply companies has a practical significance. Considering the important role of Power supply companies plays in the national econony, the paper is to develop a performance evaluation index system and comprehensive evaluation model, hoping to provide references for the future performance evaluation management in the power supply enterprises. Based on the concept of comprehensive value, this paper has constructed the four-dimensional comprehensive performance evaluation system combined with the operating characteristics, including the circumstances, the quality of assets, the service level and performance level. Meanwhile, a comprehensive evaluation model is built by the Structural Entropy Weight Method and TOPSIS Method and six power supply companies are taken as sample companies. Empirical analysis results verify the effectiveness of the method. The study proposes a new concept of comprehensive value, develops a new method for performance evaluation of power supply companies.

A Novel Method of Safely Measuring Influenza Virus Aerosol Using Antigen-Capture Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay for the Performance Evaluation of Protective Clothing Materials.

Currently, threats caused by pathogens are serious public health problems worldwide. Protective clothing is essential when one is treating infected patients or dealing with unknown pathogens. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of protective clothing against pathogens. In Japan, some methods for evaluating the performance of protective clothing have been established in the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). However, a test method against virus aerosols has not been established. Because there is a risk of infection from a live virus during the test, it is necessary to devise a safe method for the virus-aerosol-based test. Here, we propose a new method of safely measuring virus aerosols for the performance evaluation of protective clothing materials. To ensure safety, an inactivated virus was used. As a model virus, the influenza virus was selected owing to the proper small diameter of the virus particles. To quantitatively measure the particle-amount of the inactivated influenza virus, we developed an antigen-capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) targeting the M1 protein. Furthermore, we evaluated two materials using our method. Significant differences in the protection performance against the virus aerosol were observed between different sample materials, thereby confirming the applicability of our new method for performance evaluation.

A new method for performance evaluation of enterprise architecture using streotypes

These days, we see many organizations with extremely complex systems with various processes, organizational units, individuals, and information technology support where there are complex relationships among their various elements. In these organizations, poor architecture reduces efficiency and flexibility. Enterprise architecture, with full description of the functions of information technology in the organization, attempts to reduce the complexity of the most efficient tools to reach organizational objectives. Enterprise architecture can better assess the optimal conditions for achieving organizational goals. For evaluating enterprise architecture, executable model need to be applied. Executable model using a static architectural view to describe necessary documents need to be created. Therefore, to make an executable model, we need a requirement to produce products of the enterprise architecture to create an executable model. In this paper, for the production of an enterprise architecture, object-oriented approach is implemented. We present an algorithm to use stereotypes by considering reliability assessment. The approach taken in this algorithm is to improve the reliability by considering additional components in parallel and using redundancy techniques to maintain the minimum number of components. Furthermore, we implement the proposed algorithm on a case study and the results are compared with previous algorithms.

New Method for Performance Evaluation of Grayscale Image Denoising Filters

Combining noise removal and detail preservation is a challenging issue in the design of image denoising filters. In this letter a new full-reference method for objective evaluation of such features in grayscale pictures is presented. The proposed approach is based on the classification of the filtering errors in two classes that respectively take into account the amount of noise still present after processing and the actual distortion produced by the filter. Results of computer simulations show the advantages of the proposed method with respect to other measures of filtering performance that are available in the literature.

Application of Cumulant Method In Performance Evaluation of Turbo-Like Codes

In this paper, a new method for performance evaluation of turbo-like codes is presented. This is based on estimating the probability density function of the bit log-likelihood-ratio using higher order statistics. We do not restrict ourselves to any specific model for the pdf and try to estimate it directly using a cumulant matching method. Numerical results show a close agreement between the proposed method and the simulations. The complexity of this method is similar to the Monte-Carlo simulation with the advantage of providing similar accuracy using significantly fewer samples.

A new method for performance evaluation of bit decoding algorithms using statistics of the log likelihood ratio

This paper presents a new method for the performance evaluation of bit decoding algorithms. The method is based on estimating the probability density function (pdf) of the bit log likelihood ratio (LLR) by using an exponential model. It is widely known that the pdf of the bit LLR is close to the normal density. The proposed approach takes advantage of this property to present an efficient algorithm for the pdf estimation. The moment matching method is combined with the maximum entropy principle to estimate the underlying parameters. We present a simple method for computing the probabilities of the point estimates for the estimated parameters, as well as for the bit error rate. The corresponding results are used to compute the number of samples that are required for a given precision of the estimated values. It is demonstrated that this method requires significantly fewer samples as compared to the conventional Monte-Carlo simulation.

A New Approach to Evaluate the Performance of Gravity-Based Coal Washing Equipment

A new method for performance evaluation of gravity-based coal-cleaning unit operations has been proposed in this article. This is done by evaluating the nature and the amount of misplaced particles in the clean coal fraction. The proposed performance parameters “Misplacement 1” and “Misplacement 2” vary from 0 to 1 and therefore, it is easier to compare the performance of various equipment on a simple common scale to process a typical coal. It takes into consideration the ash distribution of the misplaced particles to facilitate direct comparison of various gravity-based equipment as well as identifying their optimum operating conditions. The concept and the methodology to evaluate the proposed performance criterion have been discussed in detail. The advantages of using this new methodology over the conventional distribution curve analysis have been established with some illustrative examples.

We proposed a new method of performance evaluation for X-ray CT using visible scintillation light and examined its usefulness in this study. When we scanned a plastic scintillator disk in a gantry opening of the X-ray CT, we could observe visible scintillation light. The rotation of the light-emitting area of the disk corresponded to that of the X-ray tube. We were able to record the scintillation light by digital video camera. By analyzing the area of visible scintillation light, the rotation speed of the X-ray tube, angular spread of the X-ray beam, uniformity of the incident X-rays, and change in X-ray energy were measured. No other method is available to obtain the above parameters of X-ray CT during a single CT scan. In the measurements of the uniformity of incident X-rays and change of X-ray energy, our method showed good accuracy in detecting the attenuation caused by the couch between the X-ray tube and the plastic scintillator disc. The proposed method is inexpensive and easy-to-use. We conclude that the method is a useful tool for performance evaluation as well as a maintenance tool for X-ray CT.

A New Method for Performance Evaluation of Series-Parallel Manufacturing Flow Lines

This paper focuses on flow lines composed of multiple parallel-machine stages. The system is similar to a classical flow line, the only difference being that one stage may consist of parallel machines. A method is presented to model and analyze this type of flow lines. The method presented in this paper has been successfully implemented and tested in the industry over the last few years.
