Assessment of cognition: dementia and delirium : In consideration of the AWMF guidelines 038-013 and 084-002LG

Cognitive disorders are multifaceted and the range of neuropsychological instruments is correspondingly extensive; however, most examiners have to limit themselves to asmall selection in order to master them safely. In geriatric patients the various forms and stages of dementia dominate. Delirium must be distinguished from these as an acute life-threatening event. The personal and external medical history as well as clinical observation are the first steps in the assessment of cognition; the selection of test procedures is graduated and bears the patient's benefit in mind. When compiling atoolbox for use in one's own field of work, in addition to instruments focusing on different degrees of severity, alternatives should also be considered for use in the presence of comorbidities that reduce the validity (visual, hearing and fine motor disorders) and the examination situation should be taken into account.

Perceptions in neuropsychology about non-inclusivity in testing materials: Preliminary results from a small-scale survey

Objective: While some recommendations for neuropsychologists have been established regarding best practices when working with gender and sexual minorities, there are many assessment practices that could contribute to disparities for LGBTQ+ patients. The purpose of the current preliminary study is to collect initial information on practitioner perceptions of non-inclusivity in our instruments, allow neuropsychologists who attempt to increase inclusivity to share their approaches with others, and use the information to guide future, larger-scale studies and advocacy efforts. Method: Forty-six participants (mostly doctoral level neuropsychologists) completed a survey related to their experiences with inclusive and non-inclusive language in test materials. Results: The majority of respondents reported encountering non-inclusive language, with many having made changes in their practices as a result. Respondents highlighted concerns specific to neuropsychological instruments and questionnaires as well as normative data specific to the LGBTQ+ population. Respondents provided several examples for improvements. Conclusions: Based on these initial findings, several suggestions and future directions are highlighted.

Auto-Global Examination of Mental State (Auto-GEMS): a web-based self-administered cognitive screening

Recent methodological developments have contributed to a significant advance in computerised neuropsychological instruments and procedures, including those accessible from remote. In this paper we present Auto-GEMS, a newly developed, web-based, self-administered screening test allowing to quickly estimate an individual’s cognitive state also considering their cognitive reserve. Auto-GEMS measures cognitive functioning on eleven items similarly to the in-person paper-and-pencil version (GEMS) and to the remote (phone or video call) version (Tele-GEMS) of the same screening. We collected normative data on a sample of 1308 Italian-speaking participants (age range 18–93) to verify its psychometric properties and computed regression models on demographic variables to establish clinical cut-offs. The psychometric properties of Auto-GEMS have shown good internal consistency, test-retest reliability and convergent validity. This short and user-friendly tool has a number of potential applications. For instance, it can be useful in clinical practice to monitor the cognitive profile of patients or vulnerable individuals, or even administered in a face-to-face, standard clinical setting. It can also be used in research studies to screen participants. The testing materials and the collected data are freely available in a digital archive along with a web App to visualise the test outcome with reference to its normative data.

The Draw-a-Person Test in Neuropsychological Assessment

The Draw-a-Person test (former Draw a Man test) comes from the intelligence diagnostics of children, but the procedure also gives a wealth of interesting results in patients with brain damage. Goal: The aim of the study was to investigate to what extent drawing ability is impaired in people with brain damage and how strong the connection is with other neuropsychological investigations. Methods: The result of the Draw-a-Person test (DAPT) was compared with the: Mini-Mental Status Examination, Verbal Learning and Memory Test, Number Connection Test, “Personalities” test from Kaufmann's Test battery, Hooper's Visual Organization Test and Mosaic test of the Hamburg Wechsler intelligence Scale. Participants: The data was collected as part of a field study in a clinic for Neurology and a neuropsychological practice, so there are often only preliminary diagnoses. Since this study is about the correlations of the tests only, differences in diagnosis are not considered as a bias. For the present study, the data from a total of 50 patients (mean age 70.2 ±13.0 years, 24 males, 26 females) were evaluated. The patients suffered from: stroke (n=19), dementia (n=10), traumatic brain injury (n=5), transient ischemic attack (n=4), heart attack (n=3), encephalitis (n=2), Parkinson's disease (n=2), cerebral hemorrhage (n=1), other diagnoses (n=4, e.g. vitamin-B12 deficiency, seizures, confusion). Results: The correlations to the DAP-Test were: Mini-Mental Status Examination Rho=0.66*; Verbal Learning and Memory Test 1st round: Rho=0.34*; 5th round: Rho=0.44*; 6th round: Rho=0.23 (n.s.); 7th round: Rho=0.30 (n.s.); Number Connection Test Rho= -0.29*; “Personalities” test Rho = 0.44*; Hooper’s Visual Organization Test Rho = 0.61*; Mosaic Test Rho = 0.57*. Conclusion: The DAP test is an easy-to-perform procedure that only takes a few minutes and is very economical. The test gives initial indications for many visual-constructive deficits as e.g. neglect, visual agnosia and correlates significantly with many other neuropsychological instruments.

A new neuropsychological tool for simultaneous reading and executive functions assessment: initial psychometric properties.

The development of reading and complex executive functions is fundamental for achieving social, academic, and professional success. So far, there is no single neuropsychological instrument that comprehensively assesses the domains of inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, working memory, and reading comprehension. To assess executive functions related to reading, the "Assessment of Reading and Executive Functions" (AREF) was developed. In this study, we show initial evidence of validity and reliability for four subtests - Graphophonological-Semantic Flexibility, Inhibitory Control, Flexibility, and Working Memory. A total of 93 students from 4th to 9th grade, aged 8-14, in public (n = 61) and private (n = 32) schools were evaluated. Tasks from the AREF instrument, as well as measures of reading comprehension, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, working memory, and intelligence, were administered. Correlations between AREF scores and the other measures were performed to assess external construct validity. Performance differences between school groups on AREF subtests were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, and Mann-Whitney tests, and the internal consistency of the instrument's tasks was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The scores of the AREF subtests demonstrated significant positive correlations with reading measures (ranging from 0.339 to 0.367) and executive functions (ranging from 0.209 to 0.396). Significant differences were found in the performance of some AREF tasks when comparing individuals from public and private schools, as well as between 4th and 5th graders compared to students in higher grades. The internal consistency of the tasks was low for Graphophonological-Semantic Flexibility (Cronbach's α = 0.566), moderate for Inhibitory Control and Flexibility (Cronbach's α = 0.768), and high for Working Memory (Cronbach's α = 0.881). The results provide initial evidence of construct validity and reliability for the AREF subtests. It is expected that this new neuropsychological test will contribute to the assessment of reading skills and executive functions, assisting in guiding clinical and educational interventions for individuals with and without neurodevelopmental disorders.

NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS IN THE SPATIAL CONSTRUCTION OF COLOR MODELS IN STUDENTS WITH AND WITHOUT LEARNING DIFFICULTIES

The effectiveness of the spatial construction of models is directly related to the degree of internal spatio-temporal structuring and organization which, in turn, depends on the degree of the functional optimization of the subjects of the action. The objective of this study is to detect neuropsychological differences in executive functions, between students with and without learning difficulties, in terms of attempts and time spent performing spatial construction tasks. The research hypothesis states that there are differences in the number of attempts and time spent when performing spatial tasks, with greater expressiveness in students with learning difficulties. In methodology, the resource focused on the neuropsychological instrument of spatial construction used colored models based on the manipulation of four Kohs cubes; as well as neuropsychological observation and psychological interview. The results show that at most ages the tendency is for students with learning difficulties to make a greater number of attempts and spend more time performing tasks related to spatial construction tests, compared to students without learning difficulties. In conclusion, it is inferred that students with learning difficulties tend to present internal spatio-temporal structuring and organization deficits, which result from deficits in the operability of executive functions.

Memory in Spina Bifida, from Childhood to Adulthood: A Systematic Review.

Background: Spina bifida (SB) is a rare congenital disease characterized by not only physical but also neuropsychological disturbances. Among these neuropsychological impairments, memory deficits are a significant concern, as they substantially hinder aspects of crucial importance in the lives of individuals with SB such as medical needs or daily life activities. The main objective is to conduct a systematic review of the current evidence on the memory deficits in the SB population, including children, adolescents, and adults. Methods: Four databases (PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and ProQuest) were systematically screened for eligible studies. Results: The present review reveals cognitive difficulties in different memory types among individuals with SB. These deficits, identified in childhood, seem to persist into adulthood. Specifically, impairments are evident in short-term memory, working memory, and long-term memory. The neuropsychological instruments applied in the studies that were included in this systematic review vary, however, most reach the same conclusions. Conclusions: The present findings underscore the importance of incorporating cognitive assessments, particularly those focused on the memory domain, into routine childhood evaluations for individuals with SB. Early identification of these cognitive difficulties allows for the timely implementation of cognitive interventions that could leverage the inherent plasticity of the developing brain, and prevent or delay the onset of these deficits in later adulthood for people with SB, ultimately improving their functionality and quality of life.

Multidimensionality of children’s foundational skills: an IRT-based validation of the NEPSY factorial structure

ABSTRACT Objective Measurement tools for children’s foundational skills provide important insights towards the developmental mechanisms of these domains. This study examines the structure of sensorimotor, visuospatial processing (VP), executive function (EF) skills and their interrelationship. The NEPSY is a widely-used neuropsychological instrument, but while validated at the domain-level through classical test theory approaches, no studies have conducted in-depth item-level analyses on its structural and psychometric properties. Method This study examined whether the designed structure of NEPSY is empirically supported by fitting unidimensional and multidimensional Item Response Theory models to item response data of early elementary students in the United States. A confirmatory factor analysis was also conducted to examine the factorial structure of the data. Results Results provide empirical support to the factorial structure of NEPSY, both at the domain level and within the VP sub-domain. The results show that VP and EF are separate constructs and subtests within the VP domain can further be modelled as interrelated but distinct factors – non-motor and motor-based processing. Conclusion Our specific results support the theoretical stance that VP consists of multiple component skills that are distinct because they require different neurological processes. This multidimensional NEPSY model shares some structural commonalities with the Cattell–Horn–Carroll model.

Psychometric Reliability, Validity, and Generalizability of MoCA in American Indian Adults: The Strong Heart Study.

Standardized neuropsychological instruments are used to evaluate cognitive impairment, but few have been psychometrically evaluated in American Indians. We collected Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in 403 American Indians 70 to 95 years, as well as age, sex, education, bilingual status, depression symptoms, and other neuropsychological instruments. We evaluated inferences of psychometric validity, including scoring inference using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling, generalizability inference using reliability coefficient, and extrapolation inference by examining performance across different contexts and substrata. The unidimensional (total score) model had good fit criteria. Internal consistency reliability was high. MoCA scores were positively associated with crystallized cognition (ρ = 0.48, p < .001) and inversely with depression symptoms (ρ = -0.27, p < .001). Significant differences were found by education (d = 0.79, p < .05) depression (d = 0.484, p < .05), and adjudicated cognitive status (p = .0001) strata; however, MoCA was not sensitive or specific in discriminating cognitive impairment from normal cognition (area under the curve <0.5). MoCA scores had psychometric validity in older American Indians, but education and depression are important contextual features for score interpretability. Future research should evaluate cultural or community-specific adaptations, to improve test discriminability in this underserved population.

The effects of exergames for cognitive function in older adults with mild cognitive impairment: a systematic review and metaanalysis.

Exergames are an innovative method that can promote neuroplasticity and improve the cognitive abilities of the elderly. This study aimed to compare the effects of single-task and multi-task exergames on the cognitive ability of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Computerized literature search was performed using PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, Elsevier, ProQuest, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang and VIP database to identify relevant articles from the establishment of the database from inception to April 1, 2024. The inclusion criteria were: (i) participants aged 60 or older diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, regardless of gender; (ii) use of randomized controlled trials (RCTs); (iii) interventions involving exergames with physical activity or as the primary variable; and (iv) outcome measures using standardized neuropsychological instruments to assess cognitive function, including statistical data on sample size, mean, and standard deviation. Finally, the included study comprised a total of 526 participants. Mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to synthesize the effect size in the data. 11 studies were included. Due to the differences in the intervention methods, subgroup analysis was performed on the included research. Compared with the control group assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale, the single-task intervention improved the cognitive ability of the elderly with MCI (MD 3.40, 95% CI 2.43-4.37), the Mini-Mental State Examination Scale (MD 2.38, 95% CI -2.03 to 2.72), the Trail Making Test (MD -3.89, 95% CI -6.45 to -1.33), and the Digit Span Forward test (MD 1.16, 95% CI 0.73-1.60). This meta-analysis supports that exergames could be an effective cognitive rehabilitation method for MCI patients. Our study recommends that patients implement a customized exergames program and adhere to it for a long time. It is necessary to pay attention to the exercise guidelines and provide evidence from clinicians. Development of a 12-Word Version of a Verbal Learning Test for Persian-Speaking Older Adults: Reliability, Construct Validity, and Normative Standards.

As people enter old age, they develop diseases, challenges, and cognitive and behavioral deficits that are associated with decreased abilities. Memory abilities and deficiencies and impaired models can be assessed using neuropsychological instruments, and a rehabilitation program can be developed based on the individuals' memory deficits. The present cross-sectional research aims to develop a new test (henceforth known as the Persian Verbal Learning Test, or PVLT) that is appropriate for Persian-speaking older adults. For normative data, we administered PVLT to a group of 374 Persian-speaking healthy older adults consisting of both genders (190 women and 184 men) who were aged 60-89years old. To determine reliability and validity, we evaluated neurologically healthy older adults and analyzed the results using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The present findings showed that age, education, and gender significantly affect subtests of the PVLT. In the evaluation of reliability, significant positive correlations were observed between the variables of the PVLT in the standard/standard form. Furthermore, moderate correlations were observed between PVLT variables (immediate recall, short-delay recall, long-delay recall, and recognition), and the Immediate and Delayed Logical Memory subtests of Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised (WMS-R). However, subtests of the PVLT also showed significantly positive correlations with MoCA and non-verbal variables of WMS-R. According to the results of this study and given the good psychometric properties obtained, PVLT can potentially be used as a more appropriate tool than the SVLT for Persian-speaking older adults.

Clinical validity of the Italian adaptation of the Uniform Data Set Neuropsychological Test Battery (I-UDSNB) in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s Disease

BackgroundThe identification and staging of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) represent a challenge, especially in the prodromal stage of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), when cognitive changes can be subtle. Worldwide efforts were dedicated to select and harmonize available neuropsychological instruments. In Italy, the Italian Network of Neuroscience and Neuro-Rehabilitation has promoted the adaptation of the Uniform Data Set Neuropsychological Test Battery (I-UDSNB), collecting normative data from 433 healthy controls (HC).Here, we aimed to explore the ability of I-UDSNB to differentiate between a) MCI and HC, b) AD and HC, c) MCI and AD.MethodsOne hundred thirty-seven patients (65 MCI, 72 AD) diagnosed after clinical-neuropsychological assessment, and 137 HC were included. We compared the I-UDSNB scores between a) MCI and HC, b) AD and HC, c) MCI and AD, with t-tests. To identify the test(s) most capable of differentiating between groups, significant scores were entered in binary logistic and in stepwise regressions, and then in Receiver Operating Characteristic curve analyses.ResultsTwo episodic memory tests (Craft Story and Five Words test) differentiated MCI from HC subjects; Five Words test, Semantic Fluency (vegetables), and TMT-part B differentiated AD from, respectively, HC and MCI.ConclusionsOur findings indicate that the I-UDSNB is a suitable tool for the harmonized and concise assessment of patients with cognitive decline, showing high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of MCI and AD.

Executive Functions in a Patient with Low-Grade Glioma of the Central Nervous System: A Case Report.

Central nervous system tumors produce adverse outcomes in daily life, although low-grade gliomas are rare in adults. In neurological clinics, the state of impairment of executive functions goes unnoticed in the examinations and interviews carried out. For this reason, the objective of this study was to describe the executive function of a 59-year-old adult neurocancer patient. This study is novel in integrating and demonstrating biological effects and outcomes in performance evaluated by a neuropsychological instrument and psychological interviews. For this purpose, pre- and post-evaluations were carried out of neurological and neuropsychological functioning through neuroimaging techniques (iRM, spectroscopy, electroencephalography), hospital medical history, psychological interviews, and the Wisconsin Card Classification Test (WCST). There was evidence of deterioration in executive performance, as evidenced by the increase in perseverative scores, failure to maintain one's attitude, and an inability to learn in relation to clinical samples. This information coincides with the evolution of neuroimaging over time. Our case shows that the presence of the tumor is associated with alterations in executive functions that are not very evident in clinical interviews or are explicit in neuropsychological evaluations. In this study, we quantified the degree of impairment of executive functions in a patient with low-grade glioma in a middle-income country where research is scarce.

The relationship between neurotrophins and cognitive functions in the context of emotional response to sleep deprivation

IntroductionStudies conducted up to date on the subject of deprivation of sleep (DS) primarily focused either on its impact on certain cognitive abilities or mood-enhancing effects in patients with depression. A notable body of evidence suggests that both might be related to alterations in neurotrophin synthesis induced by DS. However, the role of NTs as an interface between DS, mood, and cognitive functions is unclear.ObjectivesThe study aimed to investigate associations between cognitive abilities measured by Trail Making Test (TMT) and Stroop Color and Wort Test (ST), serum protein concentrations of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), neurotrophin-3 (NT3), neurotrophin-4 (NT4) as well as the expression of their respective genes after a night of sleep deprivation.MethodsEach participant (n=76) underwent a 24-hour DS under the control of actigraphy. Venous blood collection, TMT, and ST were carried out in the morning after DS. Mood was evaluated twice, after DS and in the preceding evening; based on the alleviation of depression symptoms participants were divided into respondents (RE; n=47) and non-respondents (NR; n=29). Serum protein concentration was determined using ELISA kits. Gene expression was evaluated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction with gene-specific probes (reference gene: β-actin). Relative expression was calculated using the Livak formula. TMT is a neuropsychological instrument; Part 1 is thought to evaluate mostly attention, whereas Part 2 executive functions. ST is a 2-part test applied in the assessment of response inhibition and complex attention.ResultsIn RE, cognitive abilities were not associated with expression levels of any of the studied proteins or mRNA (all p&gt;0.05). In NR, BDNF and GDNF mRNA expressions negatively correlated with TMT Part 1 (p=0.017, p=0.048, respectively); scores obtained in TMT Part 2 bore a similar relation to BDNF, GDNF, and NT4 mRNA (p=0.034, p=0.041, p=0.026, respectively). In this group, expression of all BDNF, GDNF, NT3, NT4 mRNA correlated negatively with both parts of ST (p&lt;0.001, p=0.009, p=0.042, p=0.009 for Part 1; p&lt;0.001, p=0.003, p=0.031, p=0.014 for Part 2, respectively).ConclusionsThose results suggest that alterations in the synthesis of NTs might be an element of the molecular milieu characterizing different types of DS response. Negative correlations between test scores and NT mRNA expressions could imply that the reduction of the production of NT proforms might protect against the decline of cognitive functions in the aftermath of DS. Projects using a larger battery of tests as well as analyzing immature forms of NTs would be desirable in order to further investigate mechanisms underlying DS response.Disclosure of InterestNone Declared

New approaches in the neuropsychological evaluation of aADHD

IntroductionIn Hungary, the understanding and diagnosis of adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (aADHD) are influenced by a blend of international epidemiological data and the standardized criteria established in DSM-5. The diagnostic protocols at our aADHD Outpatient Clinic at Semmelweis University have been carefully adjusted and validated to align with the practical application of empirical evidence and the extensive clinical expertise of professionals. The current diagnostic protocol encompasses the use of diagnostic interviews (symptoms identification based on DSM criteria; SCID-5-PD; M.I.N.I.-PLUS-5.0), the Conners’ Adult ADHD Rating Scales–Self Report questionnaire (CAARS), heteroanamnesis with parents, a comprehensive neuropsychological instruments battery (including the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test, Stroop Test, Conners-CPT3, Trail Making Test) and WAIS-IV Intelligence Scale.ObjectivesA valid and appropriate diagnosis plays a crucial social role by legitimizing individuals’ attention/health issues, confirming their concerns, and addressing cultural and moral expectations. The primary objective of this work is to refine the diagnostic methodology by extensive review of the international literature and the analysis of our own data.MethodsWith the aim of aggregating and analyzing the collected data based on examinations of the Hungarian adult population, our assessment methods are employed to acquire detailed information regarding ADHD prevalence, symptoms, and the related neuropsychological profiles.ResultsWhile various diagnostic approaches generally demonstrated good alignment, in some cases, significant discrepancies between neuropsychological assessment and the rest of our tools were observed, indicating a number of instances of false positives or false negatives. Neuropsychological aspects of reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome.

To describe the frequency and expand the understanding of cognitive dysfunction in RCVS. The neuropsychological evaluation was performed using a battery consisting of specific neuropsychological instruments that were administered to patients diagnosed with RCVS. A triage was conducted to exclude other potential causes of cognitive impairment. Performance on the tests was treated as a categorical variable, and a cutoff of -1.5 Z-score was adopted to indicate impaired performance. Seven patients diagnosed with RCVS were evaluated, all of whom had a bachelor's degree and normal score in the Mini-Mental State Examination. The average time between diagnosis and neuropsychological evaluation was 1.8 years. Among the patients, 85.6% (n=6) exhibited performance below that of the normal population in at least two of the administered tests. Specifically, 71.4% (n=5) showed alterations in tests from the Psychological Battery for Attention Assessment, with impairment observed in concentrated (n=1), divided (n=3), or alternating (n=4) attention. Furthermore, 28.6% (n=2) demonstrated impairments in the Phonological Verbal Fluency Task, another 28.6% (n=2) exhibited difficulties copying elements of the Rey Complex Figure, and 14.3% (n=1) displayed lower performance in the Five-Digit test, all indicating executive dysfunction. This study provides evidence that cognitive impairment associated with RCVS is more prevalent than previously believed and has not received sufficient attention. Specifically, attention and executive functions are the cognitive domains most significantly impacted by RCVS.

Neuropsychological Assessment of Older Adults in Nepal for Population-Based Dementia Ascertainment: Needs, Challenges, and Opportunities.

The population of Nepal is rapidly aging, as in other low and middle-income countries, and the number of individuals living with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias (ADRD) is expected to increase. However, information about the neuropsychological assessment of ADRD in Nepal is lacking. We first aimed to examine the needs, challenges, and opportunities associated with the neuropsychological assessment of older adults in Nepal for population-based ADRD ascertainment. Second, we introduce the Chitwan Valley Family Study-Study of Cognition and Aging in Nepal (CVFS-SCAN), which is poised to address these needs, and its collaboration with the Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol (HCAP) international network. We reviewed the existing literature on the prevalence, risk factors, available neuropsychological assessment instruments, and sociocultural factors that may influence the neuropsychological assessment of older adults for ADRD ascertainment in Nepal. Our review revealed no existing population-based data on the prevalence of ADRD in Nepal. Very few studies have utilized formal cognitive assessment instruments for ADRD assessment, and there have been no comprehensive neuropsychological assessment instruments that have been validated for the assessment of ADRD in Nepal. We describe how the CVFS-SCAN study will address this need through careful adaptation of the HCAP instrument. We conclude that the development of culturally appropriate neuropsychological assessment instruments is urgently needed for the population-based assessment of ADRD in Nepal. The CVFS-SCAN is designed to address this need and will contribute to the growth of global and equitable neuropsychology and to the science of ADRD in low- and middle-income countries.

Normative Data in Cross-Cultural Neuropsychological Instruments in Spaniards and Colombians Living in Spain.

Cross-Cultural Dementia Screening (CCD), Rowland Universal Dementia Assessment Scale (RUDAS), and European Cross-cultural Neuropsychological Test Battery (CNTB) are three novel neuropsychological instruments developed from a cross-cultural perspective to reduce the impact of culture in cognitive assessment and improve the assessment in diverse populations. We aimed to collect and present normative data on these tests in a majority population sample (Spaniards living in Spain) and in a minority population sample (Colombians living in Spain). CCD, RUDAS, and CNTB were administered to a group of 300 cognitively healthy participants (150 Spaniards and 150 Colombians). Linear regression modeling strategy was used to provide adjusted norms for demographic factors and to explore the influence of these factors on test performance. Most of the CCD and CNTB scores were predicted by age and years of education, with some tests only predicted by age or showing a ceiling effect. The comparison of normative data between the two samples confirmed the favorable cross-cultural properties of these instruments, with only some differences in processing speed and executive functioning scores. Our study finds a comparable influence of demographic factors in both populations on the performance of CCD, RUDAS, and CNTB, confirming their adequate cross-cultural properties. We provide normative data for these tests in Spaniards and Colombians living in Spain.
