Mainstreaming environmental education in the teacher education curriculum in the Philippines

<span lang="EN-US">In the Philippines, environmental education (EE) is a mandate, and at the higher education level, the teacher education programs can serve as a context for EE. During the first semester of the 2016-2017 school year, this pilot study tested teacher education lessons integrated with environmental concepts and principles using EE materials developed by the department of environment and natural resources (DENR) among the 2,420 third year teacher education students in eight institutions of the national network of normal schools (3NS). Data were collected using a validated researcher-made test on environmental concepts and principles. Qualitative data were collected through class observations, focus group conversations, interviews, and authentic student outputs, the capstone projects. The t-test between the pre-test and post-test means (4,838) showed a substantial improvement in the EE test at a level of 0.05 significance across all ten disciplines in eight institutions. The EE mainstreaming in the teacher education curriculum using DENR EE materials and researcher-made and searched EE materials was found effective in enhancing the students' level of competence in terms of environmental concepts and principles. Institutionalization of the mainstreaming of EE in the teacher education curriculum and the cross-cutting inclusion of EE in higher education programs through national policy is strongly recommended.</span>

The Future of Public Education: Exploring the Role of Charter Schools and its Impact on Students

As charter schools continue to increase their presence throughout the U.S., there remains a considerable debate over charter schools’ impact on student achievement. Appearing at the end of the 20th century, the push for this new form of education has largely arisen from families who are unsatisfied with their traditional school districts and demand for more school options to accommodate their student’s own unique needs. Charter schools, granted greater autonomy over their curriculums, have been promoted as a better alternative to the traditional district school, particularly in promoting access to higher quality education for students in economically depressed communities. But whether they truly do so is quite nuanced – as well as their impacts on remaining traditional public schools. After juxtaposing the funding structures of charters and district schools to establish background for the debate, this research dives into numerous empirical studies detailing charter school effectiveness on student achievement by comparing the English and Math test scores of students from charter schools against their traditional district school peers. While the results are quite mixed, there does seem to be consistent improvement among “effective” urban charter school and specific charter school networks. If circumstances were to remain, there also arises questions over what policies should be implemented to help expand student access to these effective charter schools. In response, this article considers three recommendations, some already being tested in select cities, for policymakers to consider as the search to promote education equity and access for every student in American cities continues.

Risk and Resilience Assessment of Lisbon’s School Buildings Based on Seismic Scenarios

The safety and resilience of school buildings against natural disasters is of paramount importance since schools represent a reference point for communities. Such significance is not only related to the direct consequences of collapse on a vulnerable part of the population, but also due to the importance of schools in the post-disaster recovery. This work is focused on the risk and resilience assessment of school buildings in Lisbon (Portugal) under seismic events. The results of this study, in which a subset of 32 schools are analyzed, are used to define a prioritization strategy to mitigate the seismic risk of the Lisbon City Council school building portfolio and to assess the overall resilience of the school network. Numerical modeling of the school buildings is performed in order to estimate losses in terms of the built-up area of the schools and recovery times associated with different seismic scenarios, which are probabilistically defined specifically for the sites of the buildings, accounting for the local soil conditions and associated amplification effects. Based on the obtained risk estimates, which are compared to reference values established on international guidelines and specialized literature, the Lisbon City Council and LNEC jointly defined a short- and medium-term risk mitigation plan, starting with a detailed inspection and assessment of the most vulnerable school buildings and continuing to the implementation of retrofitting measures.

Design and Build a Network Monitoring System at State Vocational High School 4 Bengkulu City

Internet network is a primary need in the educational environment, especially in SMK Negeri 4 Bengkulu City. SMK Negeri 4 Bengkulu City already has an internet network using the Telkom Indihome provider with a bandwidth of 30 Mbps. So far, the use of the internet is still done freely, where every user can access and connect to the internet at school. The increasing needs of internet users and the need for installed network devices result in an increased risk of damage and disruption to the internet network which causes network troubleshooting to become slower due to the absence of a system that helps to monitor and provide reports to the IT section of SMK Negeri 4 Bengkulu City when problems occur on the network. The network monitoring system at SMK Negeri 4 Bengkulu City is used to assist network operators in supervising and managing computer networks in schools. The process of monitoring the computer network is carried out within the scope of SMK Negeri 4 Bengkulu City. This study uses Zabbix as a network monitoring application that runs on the Linux Ubuntu operating system and can be accessed via a web browser. Based on the tests conducted at SMK Negeri 4 Bengkulu City, it can be concluded that the process of securing the network system can be carried out properly as expected.

Garden at scholl: agroecological paths and multidisciplinary dialogues in municipal schools in Canaã do Carajás-PA

This work presents the university extension actions, carried out by the Federal University of the South and Southeast of Pará, in schools of the municipal elementary and high school network included in the "Horta nas Escolas" Project, located in the municipality of Canaã dos Carajás - PA. We deal, especially in this article, with the implementation of agroecological demonstration units for vegetables in a sustainable and organic way with the objective of providing students with multidisciplinary living laboratories in order to complement the teaching and learning of the students. The implementation of the first agricultural agroecological units in schools in the municipal network had promising results in relation to the implementation of multidisciplinary and agroecological teaching.

Technology Strategy and Competition Track: Thinking Strategically about Network Effects

Many, highly valuable firms such as Alibaba, Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, and Tencent owe parts of their success to network effects. Therefore, it is unsurprising that scholars have been studying network effects and their implications for decades. However, we still know surprisingly little about (1) how to measure network effects, (2) the implications for firms trying to actively induce network effects, and (3) the competition under heterogeneous network effects. The goal of this symposium is to highlight research that deals with these issues. All four presenters illustrate novel ways to measure the strength of network effects and show how these network effects affect value creation and/or firm performance. Results show that network effects are by no means a panacea for firms as (1) they might be too weak to justify a costly merger, (2) they negatively affect firm performance when paired with incompatible strategies, (3) their strength critically depends on heterogeneous user characteristics, and (4) strong within-period network effects are not enough to achieve a dominant market position without consistently strong inter-period network effects. The four presentations will be followed by a discussion that aims to identify common themes and fruitful avenues for future research on network effects. Optimization of Choreography Teaching with Deep Learning and Neural Networks.

To improve the development level of intelligent dance education and choreography network technology, the research mainly focuses on the automatic formation system of continuous choreography by using the deep learning method. Firstly, it overcomes the technical difficulty that the dynamic segmentation and process segmentation of the automatic generation architecture in traditional choreography cannot achieve global optimization. Secondly, it is an automatic generation architecture for end-to-end continuous dance notation with access to temporal classifiers. Based on this, a dynamic time-stamping model is designed for frame clustering. Finally, it is concluded through experiments that the model successfully achieves high-performance movement time-stamping. And combined with continuous motion recognition technology, it realizes the refined production of continuous choreography with global motion recognition and then marks motion duration. This research effectively realizes the efficient and refined production of digital continuous choreography, provides advanced technical means for choreography education, and provides useful experience for school network choreography education.

Manajemen Keuangan Pada Lembaga Pendidikan Bina Anak Sholeh Yogyakarta

Islamic educational institutions are currently developing very quickly as a result of public interest and growing public confidence in these institutions. One of the many educational institutions in Yogyakarta with a network of schools at various levels is the Educational Institution for Bina Anak Sholeh Yogyakarta. Batita, Play Group, Integrated Islamic Elementary School, Integrated Islamic Junior High School, and Integrated Islamic High School are some of the current levels. This study combined a descriptive method with a qualitative approach as its research methodology. For the implementation of operations at each level to be successful, financial management must be done in an organized and orderly fashion. Where financial management becomes crucial due to its role in carrying out educational activities. The primary finding of this study may be noticed in the financial management realization, planning, and supervision phases. At the Islamic Education Institution of Bina Anak Sholeh Yogyakarta, financial management planning is executed in the form of a RAPBS that is put together by all leaders at each level based on that levels' needs while still referencing the school's vision and mission. The implementation of financial management at the Islamic Education Institution of Bina Anak Sholeh Yogyakarta has been modified to the technical guidelines listed in the RAPBS for that year and is used for expenditures on school interests, practice materials, practical tools, financing student activities, and developing the quality of students and teachers. Fairness and efficiency have also been applied to the management of school finances. An honest and reliable public accountant was used to oversee the financial administration at the Islamic Educational Institution of Bina Anak Sholeh Yogyakarta. College English Multimodal Teaching Based on Digital Information Technology.

In the era of in-depth application of knowledge technology in the field of education, the teaching mode combining school English teaching and network data technology is widely used in school English education. Teaching resources have become electronic resources under the influence of digital information technology. However, English teaching often ignores all aspects of English ability, so there are still shortcomings in English teaching. The role of information technology makes a single English teaching text model unable to meet the needs of scholars. In recent years, multimodal events have enriched the expression of language input and output content, which is in line with the learning needs of current students. Therefore, under the premise of digital information technology, this paper constructs a multimodal English teaching model from the aspects of multimodal English teaching resources, multimodal English teaching activities, and multimodal English teaching analysis. It aims to mobilize the enthusiasm of scholars to learn English from various aspects and build a multimodal teaching mode of English for teachers supported by digital data technology. Therefore, the experiment shows that the multimodal teaching mode of college English based on digital information technology proposed in this paper will mobilize the enthusiasm of students to learn in a comprehensive way. It greatly improves students' English performance, promotes the development of students' autonomous learning ability and comprehensive language ability, and improves the quality of English teaching by 20%.

Network Security Analysis Using Virtual Private Network in Vocational School

Every organization chooses a virtual private network (VPN) as their top option since it is a practical and secure solution. Through the use of a virtual private network, this study seeks to evaluate the network in SMK (VPN). The descriptive qualitative research used in this study was carried out at the lab of SMK Negeri 1 Ampek Angkek. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and document analysis studies. The method of data analysis employed descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate that the activity on the VPN network is better than the Non-VPN because the activities carried out in the VPN tunnel are not known by others. Users find it simpler to finish their daily agenda as a result.

Equity for Multilingual Learners

During the COVID-19 pandemic, amid the collective necessity to pivot towards new technologies for teaching and learning, many educators expressed concerns about unequal access for multilingual learners. When online learning relies exclusively on English, students and families who navigate school in multiple languages can be excluded. Over the past two years, a focus on the intersection of multilingualism and equity catalyzed connections across the worldwide community of teachers. Global networks such as the WIDA International School Consortium provided an opportunity for educators to connect with, share, and learn from each other as a community of practice. This essay explains how, in an increasingly interdependent world, a global network of schools and scholars co-created a powerful community to both learn from and contribute to dialogue about equity for multilingual learners during the pandemic.

Políticas públicas de planeamento da rede escolar em Portugal: evolução das responsabilidades e opções municipais

Abstract The presentation of the Education charter in 2003 in Portugal as an instrument for future planning of school network represented the beginning of a different phase in public Education policies, seen as a necessary step towards the modernization of the primary school network. More than a decade later, at the start of a new cycle in public Education policies, a second phase of the reorganization of the public-school network began, with the revision of the Education charters. This paper aims to carry out a comparative analysis of these two periods, based on a qualitative research conducted in 34 municipalities in Central Portugal, featuring different realities, to identify the main differences and similarities and to determine the influence of territorial and human factors on the solutions adopted. It seems possible to conclude that new municipal actions have emerged that prioritize planning aimed at local specificities, in contrast to the previous approach, focused on compliance with central government stipulations.

An Investigation into The Role of Network Ties and The Management of Public Primary Schools in Luweero District

The study focused on the role of network ties in the management of public primary schools in Luweero district. Three research objectives guided the study thus; (i) To examine headteachers’ perceptions regarding their role in the formation of network ties in public primary schools in Luweero district. (ii) To examine factors influencing the formation of network ties in public primary schools in Luweero district. (iii)To assess the effect of network ties on the management of public primary schools in Luweero district. The study employed a cross-sectional survey design using a mixed methods approach. The study population included education officers at the district headquarters and headteachers in public primary schools in Luweero district. A total of 5 education officers and 210 headteachers participated in the study. The study findings revealed that network ties are an important component in strengthening the management of public primary schools in Luweero district. Headteachers perceived their roles in the formation of network ties essentially as initiating ideas to promote collaborations among schools and sensitizing key stakeholders about the importance of network ties. The major factors influencing the formation of school network ties were mainly geographical proximity and religious affiliation of schools. It was noted that network ties are quite influential in the management of schools because they create an enabling environment for headteachers to acquire additional knowledge and skills as well as other resources needed to improve the performance of schools.

How to Ensure the International Publication Activity of Russian Researchers: Risks, Development Opportunities, Threats.

The article deals with the problems of the publication activity of Russian scientists in connection with the growing sanctions pressure. In the changed international conditions, the Russian strategy of international publishing activity needs to be revised and reassessed risks. The article proposes a number of measures to support the international publication activity of Russian researchers and to preserve the recognition of Russian research in the world. Firstly, this is the creation of specialized journals, regulated by the Russian scientific communities themselves. The inclusion of journals in the quality lists should take place on the decision and at the initiative of the Russian research communities, carried out by their professional associations. Secondly, it is necessary to organize the accounting of collective and individual monographs in leading Russian publishing houses, as well as series of scientific preprints, publications in publication knowledge bases and archives (as decided by specialized research communities). Thirdly, it is necessary, if possible, to preserve international private scientific contacts, transferring their center, if necessary, to those countries and organizations that did not support the international sanctions. Fourthly, international institutional contacts should be refocused on the remaining friendly countries and organizations, procedures for registering and maintaining such relations should be simplified, as well as transfer their management toscientific and educational organizations in Russia. Fifth, it is necessary to develop a network of joint graduate schools with friendly foreign graduate schools in priority countries and regions of the world, encouraging joint conferences and publications is a possible tool to counter the exclusion of young researchers in general, from international contacts and publication activity.

Selection and Faith/Spiritual Formation of Catholic Public School Lay Principals in Ghana

While Catholic schools strive to maintain a particular identity, this is not easy when they operate as public schools. In most African countries where the Church operates large networks of Catholic schools, most Catholic schools are public schools, which provides funding but also leads to some constraints. This paper focuses on the issue of the selection and faith/spiritual formation of lay principals in Ghana’s Catholic public Schools. Issues are discussed and a few recommendations are made.

Боротьба галичан за українську мову навчання учнів початкових шкіл у 1920-х роках ХХ ст. (На матеріялах громади села Бабухів Рогатинського повіту)

The article reveals the forms and methods of struggle of the inhabitants of Galician village of Babukhiv in the 1920s. for the right to teach children at local school in Ukrainian language. The author notes that after the First World War, Galicia, along with other Ukrainian lands, became part of the Polish state. On March 14, 1923, the Council of Ambassadors recognized the accession of Galicia to the Polish state as a separate international act. As a result, 7 million Ukrainians in Western Ukraine turned out to be the only large nation in Europe that did not gain independence at that time. Accelerated polonization of the administrative apparatus and schooling began. Its main principles in the field of education were laid down in the so-called Frontier laws – the “Law on Certain Provisions in the Organization of Schooling” and the “Law on the State Language in Administrative Bodies of Local Self-Government”, approved by the Sejm on July 31, 1924. The Law on School Reform provided that the main type of public school was bilingual or so-called Utraquist. Analyzing these laws, the author concludes that the main task of the Polish administration from the first years of its rule in Galicia was to limit the network of Ukrainian schools, to polonize them.

EVALUATION OF INTEGRATED ISLAMIC SCHOOL NETWORK IMPLEMENTATION

This research aims to reveal and assess the implementation of the integrated islamic school network curriculum at SDIT Harum, North Jakarta. The approach method used in this study is an evaluative approach, where the researcher intends to collect data on policy implementation. The evaluation model chosen in this study is the Discrepancy Evaluation Model (DEM), by collecting and using observations, structured interviews and documentation. The design of the integrated islamic school network curriculum is a combination of the content of the integrated islamic school network curriculum, the content of the national curriculum and local content. the integrated islamic school network curriculum places more emphasis on internalizing Islamic values in every content of the National curriculum. Implementation with good and correct worship habits becomes a reinforcement in the development of student character. Implementation of the JSIT curriculum, but all of this must be a perception of thinking and acting by providing self-development and training or web wins for HR at SDIT Harum. Discrepancy evaluation is one type of evaluation approach in evaluating a integrated islamic school network curriculum program. The results of this evaluation are to find out the gaps that occur between the expected conditions and the reality in the field, the next step in making decisions.

Principle of progressive autonomy, participation, and recognition of agency. Substantive citizenship in the transition from childhood to adolescence

It is necessary to talk about children's and adolescents' education for citizenship beyond the vindication of spaces for citizen action. It is necessary to incorporate the principle of progressive autonomy highlighted by the Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989 in terms of 'evolving capacities', from the knowledge of their rights and their exercise. This article aims to analyse the concept of substantive citizenship of children and adolescents based on their right to participation and from the recognition of their agency, as well as the promotion of and respect for the principle of progressive autonomy. Based on a participatory narrative research with a socio-critical perspective, 23 discussion groups were carried out with 210 young people between 15 and 19 years old in five Iberoamerican cities: Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Madrid and Sao Paolo. From the content analysis of their contributions, three dimensions emerge: to know oneself as a subject of rights from the knowledge of these rights, the importance of intergenerational relations in recognising progressive autonomy, and the incidence of age in the development of their autonomy. As conclusions, it should be noted that young people in the five cities know their rights and recognise that family, school and social networks favour their recognition as subjects of rights and responsibilities. It also reveals that age is a limiting element and a fundamental factor for the development of substantive citizenship.

MODERN DIRECTION OF GENERAL SECONDARY EDUCATION FORMATION

The article deals with modern trends in the educational institutions network and buildings design. In the course of the study, the prerequisites for the formation of a network and buildings of different types of schools were analyzed. Based on the generalization of domestic and foreign experience in the design and construction of educational institutions, modern directions for improving the network and the architectural and planning organization of school buildings have been identified. The school network formation based on territorial educational districts is proposed. The expediency of using compact space-planning schemes, flexible planning techniques to ensure that the architectural and planning organization of school buildings meets modern social and pedagogical requirements and improve their performance is substantiated. The general educational institutions formation methods of an inclusive, safe, comfortable architectural environment are determined. To organize inclusive education, it is necessary to provide measures for the accessibility of the schools architectural environment based on the universal design principles. The child-friendly environment formation involves well-controlled school building spaces, the student flows distribution, the safe stairs design, the constant lighting of all rooms, the active use of color, modern materials and equipment.
