Uncovering the drivers of ecological footprints: A STIRPAT analysis of urbanization, economic growth, and energy sustainability in OECD countries

This study investigates the impact of human activities on environmental degradation, focusing on the roles of urbanization, economic growth, energy intensity and renewable energy within the STIRPAT framework. To this end, the study adopts the ecological footprint (EF) as the environmental indicator. Employing Panel Quantile Regression, the study analyzes data from 31 OECD countries spanning the period 2000–2021. The findings reveal that renewable energy consumption and urbanization exert significant negative influences on the EF, with urbanization proving more effective than renewable energy usage across all quantiles. Both economic growth and energy intensity contribute to environmental degradation, and the impact on the EF escalates with higher quantiles. Additionally, the causality test results demonstrate a two-way causal link among urbanization, economic growth, energy intensity, renewable energy use, and EF. Finally, based on the empirical results, this paper suggests that an energy revolution should be carried out to promote the sustainable use of energy. Meanwhile, the high-level urbanization is suggested to reduce the EF through the aggregation of living production to achieve sustainable development.

Every coin has two sides: The application of artificial intelligence on employees’ unethical behaviours

ABSTRACT Based on cognitive appraisal theory, this paper performs two studies using time-lag design to explore the influential mechanism of the application of artificial intelligence (AAI) on employees’ unethical behaviours (i.e. knowledge hiding and time theft). Study 1 indicates that AAI demonstrates a significant positive impact on knowledge hiding, while job insecurity plays a mediating role in the aforementioned relationship. Study 2 not only confirms the research findings of Study 1 but also establishes that AAI exerts a significant negative influence on time theft, whereas job insecurity plays a mediating role in the above relationship. Meanwhile, perceived organizational support is capable to weaken the positive effect of AAI on job insecurity, while also weakening the indirect impact of AAI on knowledge hiding and time theft. Overall, this study unveils why, how, and when AAI shall affect employees’ unethical behaviours.

Pengaruh Kompensasi dan Kepuasan Kerja Terhadap Turnover Intention PT. Renesola Distribusi Indonesia

The aim of this research is to determine the problem of increasing turnover intention at PT. Renesola Distribution Indonesia. This research tries to analyze and determine how compensation and job satisfaction can be related to the increase of turnover intention of PT Renesola Distribution Indonesia employees. The data used in this research was obtained with purposive sampling method directed from PT. Renesola Distribution Indonesia production division worker class with a total of 50 employees, which the sample selection criteria is the same amount of compensation. The data method used is multiple linear regression using IBM SPSS 27. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to the company employees. The results of this research show that the variables compensation and job satisfaction simultaneously have a negative effect on the employes turnover intention of PT Renesola Distribution Indonesia. The Compensation variable partially has a significant negative influence on employes turnover intention of PT Renesola Distribution Indonesia The partial job satisfaction variable has a significant negative influence on employes turnover intention of PT Renesola Distribution Indonesia.

Mediasi Kepuasan Kerja pada Motivasi dan Beban Kerja untuk Meningkatkan Kinerja Karyawan

This study aims to determine the influence of motivation and workload on performance through job satisfaction. This study was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 50 employees in the marketing division, with statements filled in using a 5 point Likert scale. The data obtained was then analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS). The result showed that overall performance was influence by motivation and workload through job satisfaction and the rest influenced by other variables outside the research model. Motivation has a significant positive influence on performance and workload has a negative significant influence on performance. On indirect effect, job satisfaction has mediated the two independent variables on the dependent variables. Through job satisfaction, motivation has a significant positive influence on performance and workload through indirect effect has a significant negative on performance.

Return to Play at Preinjury Level After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in Divisions II and III National Collegiate Athletic Association Student-Athletes.

The rates of return to play (RTP) after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction among professional and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I athletes are well described in the orthopaedic literature. Less is known about these rates and risk factors for failure to RTP in Division II and III collegiate athletes. To determine the RTP rate after ACL reconstruction among Division II and III collegiate athletes and to explore the factors associated with RTP. Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Demographic and RTP data were retrospectively reviewed for collegiate athletes who underwent ACL reconstructions across high-risk sports over 6 years (2015/16 to 2021/22 seasons) at 5 northeastern NCAA Division II and III institutions. Clinical data collected included Patient Acceptable Symptom State (PASS) on the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) Sport and Recreation questionnaire, graft type, concomitant reparative surgery, reinjury, need for reoperation, and time to RTP and return to preinjury level. Participants completed the survey using a secure web-based questionnaire sent via email or over the telephone at a minimum 6-month follow-up. Descriptive frequencies were calculated for all documented variables, with chi-square and analysis of variance statistics used to assess for associations and significant differences between variables. A total of 61 eligible student-athletes with primary ACL reconstructions were identified in this study period, and 40 knees were enrolled for analysis with a mean time from surgery to survey completion of 45.0 months. The overall RTP rate was 77.5% (31/40) at a mean of 10.1 months. However, only 50.0% (20/40) returned to their preinjury level of competitive play. There was a graft failure rate of 20% (8/40). Of the 32 athletes who did not reinjure their ACL, 81.25% (26/32) demonstrated a PASS on KOOS Sports and Recreation. Graft rerupture (P < .001) and reoperation (P = .007) had significant effects on rates of RTP. Concomitant procedures (P = .010) influenced return to preinjury level of sports. Injury during the active season versus the off-season significantly influenced KOOS PASS status (P = .038). This study demonstrated that the rate of RTP after ACL reconstruction in this patient population of Division II and III collegiate athletes was 77.5%, with only 50% returning to their preinjury level of competitive play. The graft failure rate in this population was 20%. Surgical factors, such as concomitant surgeries and reinjury of ACL graft, as well as athlete-specific data, such as injury in the off-season, were statistically significant negative influences on patient outcomes. Further research is needed to evaluate other potential factors that may play a role in RTP after ACL reconstruction.

Effect of Long-Term Debt on Financial Performance of Cement Manufacturing Companies

Due to its critical role in overall economic development, the cement industry is identified as one of the areas of the first and second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) as a sector of special consideration. However, the main objective of this study is to examine the effect of long-term debt on financial performance in cement manufacturing companies. Moreover, the specific objectives include; examining the effect of long-term debt on return on assets in cement manufacturing companies, also, to examine the effect of long-term debt on return on equity in cement manufacturing companies, in addition, the study identifies two financial performance measures which include; return on assets and return on equity, and directly considered with the relationship of long-term debt. The methodology of this study is exclusive criteria; because the study reviewed only recent studies from 2019-2023 that reported on long-term debt and financial performance. The data is gathered through the means of review and analyzed through identifying the outcome of the reviewed studies. Therefore, based on the majority, the study found a significant negative influence of long-term debt (LTD) on financial performance measured by return on assets (ROA) of cement manufacturing companies and also, a negative effect was found with the financial performance measured by return on equity (ROE) of cement manufacturing companies. In line with the findings, the study concludes that there is a negative effect of long-term debt on financial performance measured by both the (ROA and ROE) of cement manufacturing companies. Similarly, the study recommends that cement manufacturing companies avoid the use of debt in financing their assets; also, the cement manufacturing companies should also focus much on internal financing so as to improve shareholder returns.

Determinants Of Financial Distress In Retail Trade Sub-Sector Companies In Indonesia

This study aims to identify the influence of cash flow, sales growth, liquidity, and profitability on financial distress. This study uses a quantitative approach by utilizing secondary data in the form of company financial statements. The population in this study is companies that belong to the retail trading sub-sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The purposive sampling method was used to select 12 companies as research samples. The analysis method used is multiple linear regression. The results showed that cash flow, sales growth, and liquidity had a significant negative influence on financial hardship, which meant that an increase in these three variables tended to lower the risk of financial hardship. Meanwhile, the profitability variable did not show a significant influence on financial difficulties, indicating that the level of profitability was not directly related to the financial condition of the company that was experiencing difficulties. These findings provide important insights for company management in managing financial risks.

Faculty perspectives on accreditation, academic freedom and quality learning in private higher education institutes: empirical evidence

Purpose This study aims to investigate the effects of standardization, accreditation process on academic freedom and quality learning in higher education institutes (HEIs). In addition, this study explores the mediating effects of academic freedom between standardization, accreditation and learning. Design/methodology/approach To attain the objective, the study uses the theory of self-determination as its theoretical underpinning. The smart PLS-SEM technique is applied for analyzing data. Findings The results indicate that the accreditation process has a significant negative influence on faculty academic freedom and quality of learning in the sampled HEIs. There is also a significant mediating effect of academic freedom. Research limitations/implications There are a few limitations in this study. First, the study considers the faculty members only as respondents. Second, this study only considers the faculty members of private universities as respondents. In the future, public HEIs could also be included in similar studies. Finally, this research has been done in the context of a developing country. Practical implications The findings of the study have pervasive implications for the authorities in HEIs. The authorities of HEIs might capitalize on this evidence in formulating the appropriate policy for their HEIs. Social implications As the accreditation process weakens academic freedom and quality learning, accreditation should not be viewed as an institutional development and quality assurance tool. Rather, accreditation ought to allow for amplifying faculty voices, empowering faculty and protecting their rights. Originality/value Quantitative analysis on the subject addressed in the current study is scarce. Therefore, this research can be considered valuable for stakeholders of HEIs.

Pengaruh Risiko Bisnis, Likuiditas, Pertumbuhan Penjualan, dan Struktur Aset terhadap Keputusan Pendanaan di Moderasi Ukuran Perusahaan pada Perusahaan Property dan Real Estate yang Terdaftar pada Bursa Efek Indonesia

This study aimed to examines the influence of the business risk, liquidity, growth of sales, and asset structure on the funding decision moderated by company size. The population of this research are property and real estate company that listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sampling method using purposive sampling with the study period of 2019 until 2023 and obtained as many as 84 companies. The technique of data analysis is used multiple regression analysis with interation method. The results of this study shows that business risk and liquidity does not affect on funding desicion. The growth of sales significant positive influence on funding desicion. The asset structure significant negative influence on funding desicion. Moderating testing firm size showns that firm size is not proven as moderating variable that can strengthen or weaken the relationship liquidity on funding desicion. While, moderating testing firm size showns that, firm size proved weaken the relationship of the growth of sales on funding desicion,as well as the influence of asset structure on funding desicion can be strengthened by firm size.

An analysis of the relationship between domestic trade costs and the dietary quality of Chinese residents

Abstract Domestic trade flow in China is an indispensable factor affecting food availability to the public. The aim of this study is to focus on the cost of domestic trade within China and the dietary health of Chinese residents. Based on the China-regional input-output tables and the CHNS micro-database, we calculated China’s domestic trade costs and Healthy Eating Index (HEI) of Chinese urban and rural residents. We find that domestic trade costs are negatively correlated with residents’ whole grain and mixed beans, vegetables, fruits, beef, mutton, poultry, and aquatic products consumption, having a significant negative influence on residents’ dietary quality score. Domestic trade costs can influence residents’ food consumption structure by affecting income and traditional market scores. Domestic trade costs have a greater negative influence on the dietary quality of rural residents, low-income residents, and elderly residents. The results suggest that reducing domestic trade costs increased residents’ food consumption and improved their dietary quality. Increasing the people’s income and stimulating traditional markets can alleviate the decline in dietary quality of the population caused by an increase in domestic trade costs.

PENGARUH GAYA KEPEMIMPINAN, DISIPLIN KERJA DAN KOMPENSASI TERHADAP KINERJA MELALUI KEPUASAN KERJA SEBAGAI VARIABEL INTERVENING PADA ASN BADAN PENDAPATAN DAERAH KABUPATEN SITUBONDO

The Regional Revenue Agency is a local government organization responsible for regulating and managing local taxes and remuneration. The target population for this study consisted of 40 state civil apparatus members from the Regional Revenue Agency in Situbondo district. The sample was selected using simple random sampling. Data analysis and hypothesis testing were conducted using the Structural Equation Model – Partial Least Square (PLS-SEM) method. The study focuses on examining the influence of leadership style, work discipline, and compensation on performance, with job satisfaction serving as an intervening variable. The results of the direct influence hypothesis test using the Smart PLS 3.0 application show that leadership style has a significant positive influence on job satisfaction, work discipline has a negative but not significant influence on job satisfaction, compensation has a negative but not significant influence on job satisfaction, leadership style has a significant negative influence on performance, work discipline has a positive but not significant influence on performance, compensation has a positive but not significant influence on performance, and job satisfaction has a significant positive influence on performance. Furthermore, the results of the indirect influence hypothesis test show that leadership style has a significant positive influence on performance through job satisfaction, work discipline has a negative but not significant influence on performance through job satisfaction, and compensation has a negative but not significant influence on performance through job satisfaction.

The Influence Of Workload, Work Environment, And Facilities On The Performance Of Healthcare Workers At The Bintuni Public Health Center In Bintuni District, Teluk Bintuni

This study aimed to determine, analyze, and describe the influence of workload, work environment, and facilities on the performance of health workers at Bintuni Health Center, Teluk Bintuni Regency, using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. This research was quantitative in nature, employing a questionnaire as the data collection instrument. The study involved 97 respondents comprising health workers at Bintuni Community Health Center. The results indicated that workload had a significant negative influence on the performance of health workers with P = 0.000 &lt; 0.05 and a coefficient value of -0.340. The work environment had a significant positive influence on performance with P = 0.000 &lt; 0.05 and a coefficient value of 0.243, while facilities had a significant positive influence with P = 0.000 &lt; 0.05 and a coefficient value of 0.406. Therefore, higher workload could decrease the performance of health workers, where as a good work environment and facilities would enhance the performance of health workers at Bintuni Community Health Center.

Understanding college students’ test anxiety in asynchronous online courses: the mediating role of emotional engagement

While test anxiety is a problem in asynchronous online courses, few studies have systematically investigated learning factors influencing test anxiety in asynchronous online courses. Additionally, emotional engagement has been identified as a mediator between learning factors and test anxiety. Therefore, this study clarified the mediating role of emotional engagement between learning factors (i.e., self-efficacy, instructor-learner interaction, learner-learner interaction, perceived ease-of-use, and perceived usefulness) and test anxiety in college-level asynchronous online courses. Overall, 316 college students participated in this study. Structural equation modeling analysis examined the relationships between learning factors and test anxiety. Self-efficacy, instructor-learner interaction, and perceived ease of use had direct and significant negative influences on test anxiety. Self-efficacy, instructor-learner interaction, learner-learner interaction and perceived usefulness had indirect negative effects on test anxiety mediated by emotional engagement. The current findings indicated that instructors should consider self-efficacy, instructor-learner interaction, learner-learner interaction, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness when designing and conducting asynchronous online courses to reduce college students’ test anxiety.

Empirical Analysis of the Macroeconomic Drivers of Banking Industry Stability in Nigeria

The main purpose of this study is to determine the macroeconomic drivers of banking industry stability in Nigeria. The study employed Quantitative Research method using ex-post research design to analyse the impact of exchange rate, interest rate, inflation rate, economic growth rate, and unemployment rate on bank credit-asset ratio from 1991 to 2023. Based on preliminary estimations from the Phillips-Perron unit root and F-Bounds tests, the study employed the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique to establish the following key findings. Macroeconomic variables collectively and significantly influence banking industry stability. Specifically, high economic growth rate, moderate inflation rate, and low unemployment rate are the core drivers of banking industry stability, while high interest rate and volatile exchange rate exert a significant negative influence on banking industry stability. Consequently, bankers and macroeconomic policymakers should collaborate to ensure that macroeconomic policy frameworks provide banks with the opportunities for capital mobilisation necessary to effectively perform their financial intermediation roles for the overall benefit of the economy. The study recommends balancing macroeconomic targets and bank stability through growth-inflation-employment targeting policies to improve households' loan repayment resilience and reduce the credit risk of Nigerian banks. Additionally, exchange rate stabilisation through government intervention is suggested to help banks hedge against asset and credit value loss due to exchange rate volatility.

Unveiling Climate–Land Use and Land Cover Interactions on the Kerch Peninsula Using Structural Equation Modeling

This paper examines the effects of climatic factors, specifically temperature and precipitation, on land use and land cover (LULC) on the Kerch Peninsula using structural equation modeling (SEM). The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used as a mediator in the model to accurately assess the impact of climate change on vegetation and subsequent LULC dynamics. The results indicate that temperature exerts a significant negative influence on LULC in the early periods, inducing stress on vegetation and leading to land degradation. However, this influence diminishes over time, possibly due to ecosystem adaptation and the implementation of resilient land management practices. In contrast, the impact of precipitation on LULC, which is initially minimal, increases significantly, highlighting the need for improved water resource management and adaptation measures to mitigate the negative effects of excessive moisture. The NDVI plays a crucial mediating role, reflecting the health and density of vegetation in response to climatic variables. An analysis of lagged effects shows that both precipitation and temperature exert delayed effects on LULC, underscoring the complexity of water dynamics and ecosystem responses to climatic conditions. These results have important practical implications for land resource management and climate adaptation strategies. Understanding the nuanced interactions between climatic factors and LULC can inform the development of resilient agricultural systems, optimized water management practices, and effective land use planning. Future research should focus on refining models to incorporate nonlinear interactions, improving data accuracy, and expanding the geographic scope to generalize findings. This study highlights the importance of continuous monitoring and adaptive management to develop sustainable land management practices that can withstand the challenges of climate change.

Capital Adequacy and Bank Profitability: the Moderating Effect of Macroeconomic Variables

Based on earlier research, two primary categories of characteristics influence bank profitability. First, each bank has a unique set of profitability drivers that are often the direct outcome of management choices (quality, size, capitalization, efficiency, asset structure, and revenue divergence). The second group of determinants consists of elements like industry concentration, economic growth, inflation, and interest rates related to the profitability of the industry formation and the macroeconomic environment in which the banking system conducts. Capital adequacy may be defined as the ratio of the institution’s main capital to its assets, including loans and investments, to gauge a financial institution’s stability and strength. This paper examines the correlation between capital adequacy and banks’ profitability through the moderating impact of macroeconomic variables like inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates in the banking sectors of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Turkey. To this end, panel data were gathered from the OIC statistics database concerning 2010 and 2021. The study’s regression analysis exposed that although inflation has a significant negative influence on banks’ profitability, while the capital adequacy ratio, exchange rate, and interest rate have positive and significant impacts. Regarding the moderating effect, both inflation and interest rates have a significant positive and negative impact on the relationship between banks’ profitability and capital adequacy, respectively. Additionally, macroeconomic variable interactions with capital adequacy are not statistically significant.

Negative workplace gossip and employees' innovative behaviors: The role of psychological resilience

Applying affective events theory, this article examined the mechanism of negative workplace gossip on employees' innovative behaviors, and explored the mediating role of emotional exhaustion and the moderating role of psychological resilience. We collected questionnaires from 313 frontline workers in the airport services industry and analyzed the data using Amos and the SPSS PROCESS macro. The findings indicated that negative workplace gossip had a significant negative influence on employees' innovative behaviors, and emotional exhaustion partially mediated this relationship. Additionally, contrary to our initial hypothesis, psychological resilience not only failed to weaken the impact of workplace gossip on employees' emotional exhaustion, but actually amplified this relationship. Theoretical contributions and managerial implications are discussed.

Faktor Faktor Yang Mempengaruhi Struktur Modal

Capital is the main problem for business actors or companies. Companies need additional capital to develop products so they can compete with other similar companies. This research aims to analyze what factors influence the capital structure of manufacturing companies listed on the IDX for the 2020-2022 period. This research uses a pecking order theory and trade-off theory approach to build arguments between the independent variable and the dependent variable. The sample obtained from the purposive sampling technique was 42 companies over 4 years (126 observation data). The data analysis technique uses multiple linear regression analysis. The research results prove that company size has a significant negative influence on capital structure so that the hypothesis is rejected, as well as what happens to profitability on capital structure which also rejects the hypothesis, namely that profitability has a negative and insignificant effect. However, the results of the relationship between asset structure and capital structure have a significant positive influence so that the hypothesis is accepted. The coefficient of determination value proves that it is concluded that 18.3% of the independent variables, namely company size, asset structure and profitability in this study, can influence the dependent variable, namely capital structure, while 81.7% can be explained outside the variables in this study.

The results of the direct influence test using the Smart PLS 3.0 application show that Sales growth has a significant negative influence on Capital structure, Profitability has a significant positive influence on Capital structure, Asset structure has a significant negative influence on Capital structure, Sales growth has a positive but not significant influence on Share prices, Profitability has a negative but insignificant influence on Share prices, Asset structure has a significant positive influence on Share prices, and Capital structure has a significant positive influence on Share prices. The findings from the indirect analysis show that Sales growth has a negative but insignificant influence on Share prices through Capital structure, Profitability has a positive but insignificant influence on Share prices through Capital structure, and Asset structure has a negative but insignificant influence on Share prices through Capital structure.

PENGARUH CAPITAL ADEQUACY RATIO, LOAN TO DEPOSIT RATIO, NON-PERFORMING LOAN, BEBAN OPERASIONAL PENDAPATAN OPERASIONAL DAN NET INTEREST MARGIN TERHADAP PROFITABILITAS

Research has the intention of testing the influence of capital adequacy ratio, loan to deposit ratio, non-performing loans, operating expense operating revenue and net interest margin on the profitability of banking companies. This research collects data using financial reports and annual reports from 2021 to 2023 on banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The number of samples used in the research was 34 banking companies. Descriptive statistical analysis and multiple regression analysis are used as analysis methods. The results show that capital adequacy ratio and net interest margin have a significant positive influence on profitability, while non-performing loans and operating expenses operating revenue have a significant negative influence on profitability. Loan to deposit ratio does not have a significant influence on profitability. Simultaneously, all independent variables have an effect on the dependent variable.
