Knowledge about medicinal plants held by the inhabitants and traditional practitioners of the village of Mazateupa, Nacajuca, Tabasco, Mexico

The application of herbs for natural healing requires limitless wisdom, discernment and understanding of the natural order of the universe. The good use of our natural resources could solve economic, health and cultural problems, as they are one of the most felt needs in the communities of Mexico and Tabasco. In this sense, the main interest of this research is to analyze the traditional knowledge of the medicinal flora in Mazateupa, Tabasco. The methodology applied is a model of ethnobotanical methodology. Informants were selected and worked with using the snowball technique. Six people were interviewed in the community and 122 species were recorded. Fifty-two percent are herbs. On the other hand, 100 conditions were recorded, however, ten are the most common. There are many conditions that can be treated with different plants, although they are often used alone. This concludes that in the village of Mazateupa, traditional medicine persists.

The Natural Pattern-based Fuzzy Investment System

Research background: The underlying research problem concerns simplifying nature’s infinite sustainability pattern into a usable system to prove self-care in the financial field. Many disciplines have discovered self-sustaining systems, implying one should also exist in the portfolio- or asset management field. Purpose of the article: This paper models and applies a self-sustaining investment system based on nature’s sustainability pattern to present a usable and easily adaptable financial self-care model that can contribute to societal and individual well-being. Methods: This interdisciplinary research incorporates fractal patterns from nature and integrates these into an innovative investment decision system via a working and utilizable model. The article approaches the problem in three ways. First, it applies an unprecedented, proprietary fuzzy heuristic approach to parse the Mandelbrot set hiding nature’s growth code. Second, it subjects the resulting model system to static, dynamic, and iterative methods. Finally, it tests the above in practice in a focus group research project based on individual decisions in a portfolio collision. Findings & value added: The paper brings manageable order to investment decision processes using a specific econophysics approach to provide a complex whole of frames, alternatives, and dynamic wealth management functions. The paper attempts to demonstrate the self-sustaining power of the natural order in investment portfolio returns, behavioral finance, and wealth management decisions. The theory of an efficient, well-functioning, self-sustaining investment decision system based on heuristic criteria is developable and has been proven. The study made the organizational dominance measurable and – through fuzzy logic – simplified the complexity of the Mandelbrot set. The research also shows the scalability of the fuzzy symmetry framework, implying that it is transferable to other disciplines.

Hidden-Markov models for ordinal time series

AbstractA common approach for modeling categorical time series is Hidden-Markov models (HMMs), where the actual observations are assumed to depend on hidden states in their behavior and transitions. Such categorical HMMs are even applicable to nominal data but suffer from a large number of model parameters. In the ordinal case, however, the natural order among the categorical outcomes offers the potential to reduce the number of parameters while improving their interpretability at the same time. The class of ordinal HMMs proposed in this article link a latent-variable approach with categorical HMMs. They are characterized by parametric parsimony and allow the easy calculation of relevant stochastic properties, such as marginal and bivariate probabilities. These points are illustrated by numerical examples and simulation experiments, where the performance of maximum likelihood estimation is analyzed in finite samples. The developed methodology is applied to real-world data from a health application.

Masculinity: Phallogocentrism and Performativity. A Philosophical Analysis Based on the Studies of Jacques Derrida, Judith Butler and Raewyn Connell to Counter Patriarchal Hegemony

Feminist considerations have induced a rethinking of many aspects of our contemporary world, such as the concept of gender and power relations. This has led to a re-examination of the entire previous tradition of thought, finding in phallogocentrism the paradigm of reference. This term indicates, starting with Derrida's considerations, the Western tendency to have centred not only the logos, but also the phallus, weaving an intricate relationship between masculinity and language. It's precisely this bond that makes man the archetype on which society is founded, placing his supremacy in the natural order, defining power relations and nailing pre-established categories. A being-nailed in the Lévinasian sense, thus an adherence between the agreement of voices and being, which produces 'category-beings' in which pre-delineated social identity is concealed in a condition of 'nature', such as the 'being-male'. It's precisely this naturalness, discursively produced, that has made man universal. Consequently, man has convinced himself that he can speak for all humanity, becoming the logos through which he declines the rest. Declinations that have produced rigid and hierarchical categories that precede and define each person, prescribing 'consonant' ways, rhetorically assumed as 'human nature'. The "nature" of being man or woman does not, in fact, concern monolithic essentialisms, but rather movements of intertwined meanings in a process that Derrida defines as différance. A process, therefore, in becoming, which has over time produced unequal power relations, justifying them as "natural", and which daily reiterates a hegemonic and sexist social model. The aim of this analysis, hence, will be to bring phallogocentric masculinity and consequent hegemonic structures into the field of philosophical reflection, with the purpose of redirecting praxis towards performative processes of characterisation the person, rather than a pre-delineated categorisation. Thus, to release being from socio-cultural categories, which historical-performative praxis nails to each body.

Cooperativity and halonium transfer in the ternary NCI···CH3I···-CN halogen-bonded complex: An ab initio gas phase study.

The strength and nature of the two halogen bonds in the NCI···CH3I···-CN halogen-bonded ternary complex are studied in the gas phase via ab initio calculations. Different indicators of halogen bond strength were employed to examine the interactions including geometries, complexation energies, Natural Bond Order (NBO) Wiberg bond indices, and Atoms in Molecules (AIM)-based charge density topological properties. The results show that the halogen bond is strong and partly covalent in nature when CH3I donates the halogen bond, but weak and noncovalent in nature when CH3I accepts the halogen bond. Significant halogen bond cooperativity emerges in the ternary complex relative to the corresponding heterodimer complexes, NCI···CH3I and CH3I···-CN, respectively. For example, the CCSD(T) complexation energy of the ternary complex (-18.27kcal/mol) is about twice the sum of the complexation energies of the component dimers (-9.54kcal/mol). The halonium transfer reaction that converts the ternary complex into an equivalent one was also investigated. The electronic barrier for the halonium transfer was calculated to be 6.70kcal/mol at the CCSD(T) level. Although the MP2 level underestimates and the MP3 overestimates the barrier, their calculated MP2.5 average barrier (6.44kcal/mol) is close to that of the more robust CCSD(T) level. Insights on the halonium ion transfer reaction was obtained by examining the reaction energy and force profiles along the intrinsic reaction coordinate, IRC. The corresponding evolution of other properties such as bond lengths, Wiberg bond indices, and Mulliken charges provides specific insight on the extent of structural rearrangements and electronic redistribution throughout the entire IRC space. The MP2 method was used for geometry optimizations. Energy calculations were performed using the CCSD(T) method. The aug-cc-pVTZ basis set was employed for all atoms other than iodine for which the aug-cc-pVTZ-PP basis set was used instead.

From second language acquisition research to foreign language teaching through the prism of corpora

Corpus linguistics can be seen as a set of methods applicable to different branches of linguistics. This article deals with the application of corpus linguistics (including learner corpus research) to second language acquisition (SLA) research and foreign language teaching (FLT). It describes the existing links between these frameworks, arguing that the combinations usually work in pairs. By contrast, the concept of corpus-based theory-to-practice paths is introduced as a way of combining the three frameworks. More precisely, SLA research and FLT are brought together through the prism of corpora, which can provide data to test and possibly refine SLA hypotheses and then form the basis for pedagogical materials that can help solve some of the issues brought to light by the corpus analysis. Illustrations of such paths are given that centre around input-driven inductive learning, the natural order hypothesis and language transfer.

Note on intrinsic metrics on graphs

AbstractWe study the set of intrinsic metrics on a given graph. This is a convex compact set and it carries a natural order. We investigate existence of largest elements with respect to this order. We show that the only locally finite graphs which admit a largest intrinsic metric are certain finite star graphs. In particular, all infinite locally finite graphs do not admit a largest intrinsic metric. For infinite graphs which are not locally finite the set of intrinsic metrics may be trivial as we show by an example. Moreover, we give a characterization for the existence of intrinsic metrics with finite balls for weakly spherically symmetric graphs.

C-Semigroups and Their Induced Order

Let C⊂Np be an integer polyhedral cone. An affine semigroup S⊂C is a C-semigroup if |C∖S|<+∞. This structure has always been studied using a monomial order. The main issue is that the choice of these orders is arbitrary. In the present work, we choose the order given by the semigroup itself, which is a more natural order. This allows us to generalise some of the definitions and results known from numerical semigroup theory to C-semigroups.

Local Agendy 21 an Environmental Security in Naturally Valuable Areas

Areas with recognised natural values need special protection of environmental resources and cultural and architectural elements, as well as securing the living conditions of the local population and socio-economic activation. Especially in Local Agenda 21, which should consider such security, this task requires preparing comprehensive strategic documents. From an ecological and sociological perspective, this article looks at the situation of the local community in Poland. In this context, concern at sustainable development strategy, ecological security, discussion about sustainable development in national park territory, and human activities for the local environment. The article draws attention to the difficulties in local, sustainable development strategies and directions of activities involving the local community in ensuring natural and social order. In short, the analysis presents the importance of ecological security, the social situation in regions of natural protection, and the role of the local community in a strategy of sustainable development and ecological security.

Different nightmares, shared dreams? Australia and New Zealand's intuitive alliance

ABSTRACT What does this apparent relegation of the strategic significance of Australia’s relationship with New Zealand to a partnership in Australia’s 2023 Defence Strategic Review tell us about the status of the Australia-New Zealand alliance? Based on interviews and roundtables with leaders, officials, and academics in both countries in late 2023 and early 2024, we argue that the depth and breadth of Australia and New Zealand’s defence, economic, regulatory, and people-to-people cooperation and integration has made their relationship ‘intuitive’. That is, Australia and New Zealand’s relationship has come to be seen as part of the natural order of things, so that the two countries see each other as a natural, permanent partner, parting company with whom is unthinkable. But we also argue that this may prevent the two neighbours from recognising and responding to tensions. To address this, we examine differences between the two countries’ perceptions of themselves, their strategic interests, and their alliance, and find that the management of expectations will continue to generate tensions. While we conclude that these tensions will not fundamentally undermine the relationship, we acknowledge that it has not yet been seriously tested, for example by conflict in East Asia.

Sequences with increasing subsequence

We study analytic and Borel subsets defined similarly to the old example of analytic complete set given by Luzin. Luzin's example, which is essentially a subset of the Baire space, is based on the natural partial order on naturals, i.e. division. It consists of sequences which contain increasing subsequence in given order.We consider a variety of sets defined in a similar way. Some of them occurs to be Borel subsets of the Baire space, while others are analytic complete, hence not Borel.In particular, we show that an analogon of Luzin example based on the natural linear order on rationals is analytic complete. We also characterize all countable linear orders having such property.

Efficacy of mindfulness-based Taoist embodiment group therapy on depression, anxiety and stress in an integrated community mental health service in Hong Kong: a preliminary exploration

Existing Taoist psychotherapy often feature indoctrination-heavy formats and hierarchical structures, which can undermine the experiential connection to Taoist principles central to their therapeutic value. This mixed-methods study evaluated a novel, 4-week, mindfulness-based, "Embodied Taoism" group therapy intervention, designed to address these limitations, at a government-funded Integrated Community Centers for Mental Wellness in Hong Kong. The program aimed to mitigate depressive, anxiety, and stress symptoms, and cultivate cognitive flexibility, interpersonal connectedness, and Taoist principle integration. The majority of the 29 participants, aged 25-78, had diagnosed mental health disorders, while three were suspected cases. Rather than didactic presentation, the intervention employed experiential activities like mindful tea drinking, calligraphy, philodrama and philosophical discussion to facilitate embodied mindfulness practice and promote experiential understanding of the Taoist tenets such as non-interference, flowing with natural order, and “walking two roads”. Quantitative analysis of pre-post assessments (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21) and qualitative thematic analysis of participant questionnaires and focus groups were conducted.

Comparison of Imputation Methods for Categorical Real-World Prostate Cancer Data with Natural Order.

Missing values (NA) often occur in cancer research, which may be due to reasons such as data protection, data loss, or missing follow-up data. Such incomplete patient information can have an impact on prediction models and other data analyses. Imputation methods are a tool for dealing with NA. Cancer data is often presented in an ordered categorical form, such as tumour grading and staging, which requires special methods. This work compares mode imputation, k nearest neighbour (knn) imputation, and, in the context of Multiple Imputation by Chained Equations (MICE), logistic regression model with proportional odds (mice_polr) and random forest (mice_rf) on a real-world prostate cancer dataset provided by the Cancer Registry of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany. Our dataset contains relevant information for the risk classification of patients and the time between date of diagnosis and date of death. For the imputation comparison, we use Rubin's (1974) Missing Completely At Random (MCAR) mechanism to remove 10%, 20%, 30%, and 50% observations. The results are evaluated and ranked based on the accuracy per patient. Mice_rf performs significantly best for each percentage of NA, followed by knn, and mice_polr performs significantly worst. Furthermore, our findings indicate that the accuracy of imputation methods increases with a lower number of categories, a relatively even proportion of patients in the categories, or a majority of patients in a particular category.

Neutral Adducts of Molybdenum Hexafluoride: Structure and Bonding in MoF6(NC5H5) and MoF6(NC5H5)2.

The first Lewis acid base adducts of MoF6 and an organic base have been synthesized, i. e., MoF6(NC5H5) and MoF6(NC5H5)2. These adducts are structurally characterized with X-ray crystallography, showing that both adducts adopt capped trigonal prismatic structures. The MoF6(NC5H5) and MoF6(NC5H5)2 adducts are fluxional on the NMR time scale at room temperature. Two different fluorine environments could be resolved by 19F NMR spectroscopy at -80 °C for the 1 : 2 adduct, MoF6(NC5H5)2, whereas MoF6(NC5H5) remains fluxional at that temperature. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations aide the assignment of the infrared and Raman spectra. Natural Bond Order and Molecular Electrostatic Potential analyses elucidate the structures and properties of the MoF6 pyridine adducts. Regions of significantly higher molecular electrostatic potential, i. e., σ-holes, in trigonal prismatic compared to octahedral MoF6 rationalize the capped trigonal prismatic geometry of the adducts. Whereas MoF6(NC5H5) is stable at room temperature under exclusion of moisture, MoF6(NC5H5)2 decomposes at 60 °C in pyridine solvent, and the solid slowly decomposes at room temperature after 24 h.

This paper investigates various perspectives on the emergence of modern technologies, particularly focusing on their inherent aspect of “copying.” Here, “copying” is a broad term that includes reproducing disembodied voices and images, as well as duplicating artwork and communication materials. It explores how different writers react to the concept of “copying” within the technological landscape. While some, like Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and Rudyard Kipling, celebrate the public excitement and enjoyment associated with new communication technologies, others, including Henry James and Herman Melville, illustrate individuals ensnared in the realm of “copying,” where the pervasive gaze of overseers intrudes into the private realm of message transmission. This paper addresses the question of the relationship between copying and modernity, highlighting how a culture of “copying” enhances human capabilities while simultaneously generating issues such as misinterpretation, commodification, and detachment from natural order, ultimately raising concerns about identity, integrity, and security.

Love and recognition: towards on the question of the influence of erotosophy by Vl. Solovyov on the anthropology of A. Kozhev

The creativity of Vladimir Solovyov, more specifically his work “The Meaning of Love”, is considered as one of the origins of Alexander Kozhev’s philosophical anthropology. Attention is drawn to the fact that Kozhev addressed this Solovyov text not only in his dissertation “The Religious Philosophy of Vladimir Solovyov” (1926), but also in his article “The Religious Metaphysics of Vladimir Solovyov” (1934‒1935), that is, at the time of his lecture course, later called “Introduction to the Reading of Hegel”. The general characterization of Solovyov’s philosophy of love and its comparison with Kozhev’s doctrine of man and concept of history are given. As a result of comparative analysis of both philosopher’s views, four conceptual moments present in both Solovyov’s erotosophy and Kozhev’s philosophical anthropology are revealed. Attention is drawn to the fact that Solovyov’s “love” and Kozhev’s “desire for recognition” are related by the fact that they are both removed from the material, natural order. It is noted that both of these concepts can function only in the presence of the figure of the other, whose absolute individuality they produce. It is emphasized that both “desire for recognition” and “love” presuppose reciprocity and universality (“universal recognition” / “sisygic unity”). It is fixed that their full realization is possible only after the end of the historical process. At the same time, it is argued that it is impossible to identify Kozhev’s “desire for recognition” and Solovyov’s “love”, since in Kozhev’s texts, in addition to passages bringing love closer to recognition, there is also a consistent philosophical critique of love (its lack of “Action”, risk, struggle, universality). In conclusion, we identify four main differences between Kozhev’s anthropology and Solovyov’s erotosophy (individualism, antagonism, atheism, sexual indifference) and hypothesize that Kozhev combines both Hegelian and Solovievian components in the “desire for recognition”, which is why he brings this notion closer to love and then draws strict distinctions.

Research on flexible teaching innovation

Flexible teaching is essentially a new strategy for teaching "stability and change". The characteristic of traditional linear thinking is diachronicity, while the characteristic of flexible thinking is synchronicity without specific restrictions.Teaching allows students to understand the natural order of the development and evolution of things from the seemingly chaotic and complex phenomena, gain insight into the next step forward, identify potential unknown needs and develop students' thinking, and then foresee changes and automatically cope with changes. This is the essence of flexible teaching innovation. Flexible teaching is marked by "humanization" and emphasizes jumps and changes, speed and response, sensitivity and flexibility. Flexible teaching does not mean no principles. It complements and complements institutional teaching. Teaching requires harmony, and harmony is inseparable from flexible teaching and institutional teaching. Grasping the scale of teaching and flexibility in teaching is the art of teaching.

Size-Dependent Fullerenes for Enhanced Interaction of l-Leucine: A Combined DFT and MD Simulations Approach.

Fullerene-based biosensors have received great attention due to their unique electronic properties that allow them to transduce electrical signals by accepting electrons from amino acids. Babies with MSUD (maple syrup urine disease) are unable to break down amino acids such as l-leucine, and excess levels of the l-leucine are harmful. Therefore, sensing of l-leucine is foremost required. We aim to investigate the interaction tendencies of size-variable fullerenes (CX; X = 24, 36, 50, and 70) toward l-leucine (LEU) using density functional theory (DFT-D3) and classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The C24 fullerene shows the highest affinity of the LEU biomolecule in the gas phase. Smaller fullerenes (C24 and C36) show stronger interactions with leucine due to their higher curvature in water environments. Moreover, recovery times in the ranges of 1010 and 104 s make it a viable candidate for the isolation application of LEU from the biological system. Further, the interaction between LEU and fullerenes is in line with the natural bond order (NBO) analysis, Mulliken charge analysis, quantum theory atom in molecule (QTAIM) analysis, and reduced density gradient (RDG) analysis. At 310 K, employing the explicit water model in classical MD simulations, fullerenes C24 and C36 demonstrate notably elevated binding free energies (-24.946 kJ/mol) in relation to LEU, showcasing their potential as sensors for l-leucine. Here, we demonstrate that the smaller fullerene exhibits a higher potential for l-leucine sensors than the larger fullerene.

C-KGE: Curriculum learning-based Knowledge Graph Embedding

Knowledge graph embedding (KGE) aims to embed entities and relations in knowledge graphs (KGs) into a continuous, low-dimensional vector space. It has been shown as an effective tool for integrating knowledge graphs to improve various intelligent applications, such as question answering and information extraction. However, previous KGE models ignore the hidden natural order of knowledge learning on learning the embeddings of entities and relations, leaving room for improvement in their performance. Inspired by the easy-to-hard pattern used in human knowledge learning, this paper proposes a Curriculum learning-based KGE (C-KGE) model, which learns the embeddings of entities and relations from “basic knowledge” to “domain knowledge”. Specifically, a seed set representing the basic knowledge and several knowledge subsets are identified from KG. Then, entity overlap is employed to score the learning difficulty of each subset. Finally, C-KGE trains the entities and relations in each subset according to the learning difficulty score of each subset. C-KGE leverages trained embeddings of the seed set as prior knowledge and learns knowledge subsets iteratively to transfer knowledge between the seed set and subsets, smoothing the learning process of knowledge facts. Experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed model achieves improved embedding performances as well as reducing training time. Our codes and data will be released later.

Spontaneous Formation of Strained Anti-Bredt Bridgehead Alkenes upon Computational GeometryOptimization of Bicyclic β-Halo Carbanions

Bridgehead alkenes are polycyclic molecules bearing at least one C=C bond that includes a bridgehead carbon atom. For small bicyclic systems, these bonds are highly strained due to geometric constraints placed on the sp2 hybridized carbon atoms. These small, strained molecules have been termed “anti-Bredt” alkenes. β-halo carbanions have served as convenient precursors to bridgehead alkenes in experimental studies. We observed that upon attempted computational geometric optimizations (ωB97X-D/aug-cc-pVDZ) of the precursors, spontaneous elimination of the halide occurs along with formation of the anti-Bredt alkene in many cases. Such computational eliminations were shown to faithfully mimic experimentally obtained results. Computational elimination was not observed for [1.1.1] or [2.1.1] frameworks, in agreement with predictions that these bridgehead alkenes are too strained to be formed. However, computational elimination from the [2.2.1] framework was observed to form 1-norbornene, a compound suggested in experimental work to be a reactive intermediate. Similarly, [3.1.1] frameworks and higher led to eliminations upon computational geometric optimization, in agreement with experimental findings. Natural bond order (NBO) calculations of the starting geometries proved to be excellent predictors as to whether elimination would take place. Those precursor compounds exhibiting delocalization energies in the order of 10 kcal/mol between the lone-pair electrons of the carbon atom and σ*C-Br were generally found to undergo elimination. Thus, computational optimization of β-halo substituted bicyclic precursor anions can be used to predict whether strained anti-Bredt alkenes are likely to be formed, thereby saving valuable time and costs in the experimental lab.
