Evaluating factors affecting job burnout and quality of working life in the personnel working in Iran's National Drilling Company and providing management solutions.

Background and Objective: The present study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the factors affecting job burnout and quality of work life in the personnel working in National Iranian Drilling Company. Materials and Methods: In terms of purpose, this research was applied research, in terms of type, it was mixed (qualitative-quantitative) and was conducted by survey method. The statistical population of the research in the qualitative part, including all the expert employees working in National Iranian Drilling Company, about 20 people, was selected by theoretical saturation method for this purpose. In the quantitative part, among 19000 people, 385 people were selected as a statistical sample based on Cochran's formula and stratified random method. The tools used to measure job burnout and the quality of work life was standard Meslesh (1981) and Walton (1973) quality of work life questionnaires, the reliability of which was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha method.

Investigating Neuroticism, Aggression, and Risk Taking as Predictors of Accident-Proneness in Line Employees of National Iranian Drilling Company

Introduction: The present study aims to examine neuroticism, aggression, and risk taking as predictors of accident-proneness in line employees of National Iranian Drilling Company.
 Methods: The present correlational predictive study was designed to predict group membership (injured employees, uninjured employees) and achieve the Audit Equation. The statistical population of the study consisted of all injured and uninjured line employees at the National Iranian Drilling Company of Ahvaz working in the company during the last five years (from April 2010 to November 2013). The research sample consisted of 145 injured employees (over the past 5 years) and 115 uninjured employees, selected using simple random sampling method. The subjects were measured by Neo Personality Inventory (Costa and McCrae, 1992), SCL90R Aggression Index, and Risk Taking scale (Westaby and Lee, 2003) questionnaires.
 Results: The data were analyzed by SPSS-16 software. The results of this study showed that accident-proneness of employees can be predicted only by neuroticism and aggression variables. The risk taking was not able to distinguish between injured and uninjured employees.
 Conclusion: According to the research results, in order to reduce accident-proneness in employees, personality traits, such as neuroticism and aggression should be considered.

Investment analysis in privatization of National Iranian Drilling Company using systems dynamics and BWM technique

In this study, using system dynamics approaches and multi-criteria decision-making, the investment analysis in the privatization of the National Iranian Drilling Company is investigated. For this purpose, key variables and factors influencing identification privatization and causal relationships between these variables are plotted in two causal loop diagram, stock and flow diagram in systems dynamics approach. Then the results are simulated in Vensim software from 2018 to 2025 and various investment scenarios for privatization are investigated. Also, using multi-criteria decision-making approach based on BWM technique, investment priorities were identified in each dimension of EFQM empowerment. The results of the system dynamics approach show that all aspects of privatization don't have the same impact on firm performance. The results of the present study will also contribute to the development of research literature in the field of privatization, and the proposed approach of the article can be used as a tool in the hands of managers and government officials to show them where and on what basis they should start privatization.

Evaluating the quality and duration of sleep using actigraphy in petroleum industry shift workers

IntroductionIncreased use of shift work has led to more and more people working outside a traditional daytime schedule. Currently, approximately 20% of the labor force in developed countries is shift workers. Shift work can have devastating effects on employees’ quality of life and sleep, leading to negative consequences for individuals and their families. This study evaluates the effect of different shift schedules (seven days/seven nights, fixed-day or fixed-night, and stand-by shift) on the sleep of oil rig shift workers. Participants and methodsIn this cross-sectional study, 43 offshore workers from the National Iranian Drilling Company were enrolled. Subjects were asked to complete a questionnaire package consisting of the Epworth Sleepiness scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Changes in sleep patterns were measured using actigraphy for different shift schedules. ResultsThe mean age of the participants was 35.9 ± 7.9 years and the mean tenure with the drilling company was 10 ± 6.8 years. The mean total sleep time was 353 ± 58 min. The seven day/seven night shift workers had less total sleep time than the other three groups of shift workers. The mean PSQI and Epworth Sleepiness scale scores were 6.77 ± 3.1 and 7.49 ± 4.3, respectively. Twelve shift workers (27%) were diagnosed with shift work disorder in the current study and 31 participants had poor sleep quality according to PSQI score (≥5). ConclusionPoor sleep quality is common in oil rig shift workers. Further research is needed to evaluate sleep problems in oil rig shift workers.

The impact of knowledge management on firm performance: direct impact vs. the mediating impact of strategic human resource practices: an empirical case study

The objective of this paper is to investigate the impact of knowledge management (KM) on firm performance both directly and via the mediating effect of strategic human resource practices in National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) as an empirical case study. Structural equation modelling (SEM) method is used to test the hypotheses on a sample of 256 employees at the NIDC. The results indicate that KM influences firm performance both directly and via the mediating effect of strategic human resource practices including staffing, training, participation, performance appraisal and compensation.

The impact of perceived organisational support and organisational citizenship behaviour on turnover intention: an empirical investigation

This study examines the relationships between perceived organisational support (POS), organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) and turnover intentions; and the mediating role of OCB on perceived organisational support and turnover intentions. The population under study was all experts from the National Iranian Drilling Company as an empirical case study. Finally, 140 questionnaires were analysed based on structural equation modelling using SMART PLS software. Results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between perceived organisational support and organisational citizenship behaviour. Also, there is a negative significant relationship between perceived organisational support and turnover intention. The meditating role of OCB is supported in relation to the perceived organisational support and turnover intention.

Choosing a Suitable Method of Acquiring Logging Technology of Oil and Gas Wells in Iran: (A Case Study of National Iranian Drilling Company)

Drilling industry and its technical services are among the complex and advanced technology-based industries in the cycle of oil exploration and production. In this regard, the logging services role as one of the pillars of technical services is very important due to technological complexity and the importance of the results in the evaluation of oil and gas reservoirs. The complexity had caused small and medium companies in Iran not to be able to produce logging equipment by themselves due to financial and scientific constraints. Through the review of the articles and books written on this subject, this research has studied the factors affecting success in technology acquisition and then has categorized them in five dimensions as technological, technical, market, strategic, and financial factors. Next, through exploratory interviews with experts and theme analysis, the factors having the greatest impact on the acquisition of logging equipment technology have been identified and their opinion on various proposed methods in scientific resources for the acquisition of technology have been obtained. Several published methods have been reviewed; during interviews, some major effective characteristics were introduced by the experts, which could not satisfy existing methods or some principal dimensions were ignored. The results of the research and the case study of National Iranian Drilling Company show that the managed innovation network is the most appropriate method for the acquisition of the above mentioned technology for the National Iranian Drilling Company.

The methodology used in this study was correlation using structural equation model. Results showed that there is a negative significant relationship between POS, OCB and organisational trust and turnover intention. There is a positive significant relationship between POS, OCB and organisational trust. There is also a positive significant relationship between OCB and organisational trust. The indirect effect of organisational support is negative and significant on turnover intention. Since this effect is through organisational trust on turnover intention, the meditating role of organisational trust is supported in relation to the POS and turnover intention and also to the POS and OCB; the meditating role of OCB is supported in relation to organisational trust and turnover intention. Indirect effect of organisational socialisation is significant on cognitive empowerment. The results of PLS showed that the baseline model is supported.

Also, the meditating role of organisational trust is supported in relation to the perceived organisational support and OCB. The results of PLS show that the baseline model is supported.

Optimizing the preventive maintenance scheduling by genetic algorithm based on cost and reliability in National Iranian Drilling Company

The present research aims at predicting the required activities for preventive maintenance in terms of equipment optimal cost and reliability. The research sample includes all offshore drilling equipment of FATH 59 Derrick Site affiliated with National Iranian Drilling Company. Regarding the method, the research uses a field methodology and in terms of its objectives, it is classified as an applied research. Some of the data are extracted from the documents available in the equipment and maintenance department of FATH 59 Derrick site, and other needed data are resulted from experts’ estimates through genetic algorithm method. The research result is provided as the prediction of downtimes, costs, and reliability in a predetermined time interval. The findings of the method are applicable for all manufacturing and non-manufacturing equipment.

Comparison of anxiety prevalence among based and offshore National Iranian Drilling Company staff's children in Ahvaz, 2013.

Background:Anxiety is one of the most common psychological issues among all age groups including children. The main role of parents has been known to support their children. Being far away from a source of support has been shown to be a potential trigger for childhood anxiety. Periodical jobs, including offshore work, are among the main reasons for absence of one of the parents. Therefore, this study aims to assess anxiety in children of National Iranian Drilling Company offshore staff.Materials and Methods:In this historical cohort study, 160 students including 80 boys and 80 girls were selected through convenient random sampling from the schools of National Iranian Drilling Company. Data were collected using Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Inventory (by Reynolds and Richmond), consisting 37 items and a demographic questionnaire. The collected data were statistically analyzed by t-test and logistic regression tests through SPSS software.Results:The mean anxiety score was 12.80 among offshore staff's children and 11.67 among the children of the based staff. The ratio of manifest anxiety among the offshore workers’ children was significantly more than the based ones’.Conclusions:Based on the findings, offshore fathers’ job affects the anxiety of the children.

Surveying the Relationship between Social Capital and Talent Management System in Drilling Iranian National Company

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between social capital and talent management system in National Iranian Drilling Company located in Ahwaz. This research is applied research and correlation. The employees of Iranian National Iranian Drilling Company form the population which among them 100 people selected as a sample using Corcoran formula. The main tool of this study ate the standard questionnaires of social capital and talent management system. Using the opinion of university professors and company experts, the Reliability confirmed again. The validity of questionnaires obtained above 0.70. In order to analyze the data resulted from collected questionnaires deductive and descriptive statistical methods are used. The results Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test shows the test distribution is Normal. The Effect of Perceived Organizational Support on Affective Commitment and Job Performance: Mediating Role of OBSE

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of perceived organizational support on affective commitment and job performance, with mediating role of organization-based self-esteem (OBSE). Survey respondents include 318 employees from the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) in Ahvaz, Iran, that were selected by simple random sampling method. Results using structural equation modeling (SEM) showed that perceived organizational support (POS) predicted organization-based self- esteem (OBSE), which in turn predicted affective commitment and job performance. Organization-based self-esteem mediated these relationships. Discussion and implications of results are presented in the study.

Environmental Risk Assessment of Iranian Drilling Industry: Deficiencies in Regulations of National Iranian Drilling Company

Safety is the preliminary requirement for all drilling operations. The main goal of any drilling company is to drill a well with environmental safety, usable well completion and minimum costs. Environmental drilling safety has improved a lot during the last 30 years across the world. It has been proved that environmental safety is one of the key elements for each company to save the world from contamination. This article attempts to shed light on the basic issues regarding environmental risk assessment of drilling industry in Iran and present the initial steps to minimize the risks. It has been tried to discuss the essential defects that exist in the environmental regulations of Iranian drilling industry via a comparison between American and Iranian environmental drilling regulations and finally the results of the comparisons are demonstrated in detail.
