The Effect of Local Original Income (PAD), Transfer Funds (Balanced Funds), and Regional Economic Growth on the Regional Poverty Rate of West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB)

One of the primary goals of any municipality is human development when it comes to regional development. Reducing poverty and improving community welfare and human resources are the primary goals. The poverty rate in NTB Province has dropped dramatically, and the income and economic growth in the area have increased, thanks to the many regional development initiatives that the province has launched. Finding out how local original income, balancing funds, and economic development influence the poverty rate in NTB province is the main objective of this research. Using a battery of tests and regression analysis, we compile a dataset consisting of panel data from ten NTB Province regencies and cities covering the years 2012–2022. The results obtained from this study show that local original funding (PAD) has a significant impact on reducing poverty rates and balancing funds that significantly reduce poverty rates in the NTB province. However, economic growth impacts increasing the poverty rate in NTB province, although not significantly. This may happen because Indonesia's economic growth fluctuates, thus affecting the increase in poverty. Fluctuations occur due to factors such as national economic conditions, supply-demand, government policies, etc. This can affect the economic growth of NTB, and it also impacts the increasing poverty rate in NTB. In addition, the increasing population is one of the factors that contribute to economic fluctuations and the increase of poor people in NTB.

Economic Considerations and Public Support for Environment Policy in East and Southeast Asia

AbstractThe “environment–economy trade-off” is a key question in research on public opinion on environmental policies. While evidence from Western economies suggests that individuals are more supportive of environmental initiatives when the macroeconomic situation is favorable, little is known about how environmental policy preferences are shaped by economic factors in East and Southeast Asian countries. Using a survey dataset consisting of 12 countries based on the fourth wave of the Asian Barometer Survey (ABS), we investigate how environmental policy preferences are associated with multiple aspects of economic consideration. In a pooled multilevel analysis, we find that personal economic conditions and perceptions are more consistently associated with greater support for environmental initiatives than objective and subjective national economic conditions. However, an analysis of the heterogeneous effect shows that the effect of individual economic situations is only partially identifiable among lower-middle or upper-income countries in our sample, signaling the complexity of qualifying the relationship between economic considerations and environmental attitudes in a cross-country context.

Variations in Social Europe? National political parties' positions on EU‐level social regulations

AbstractHow do national political parties vary in their views on Social Europe? I focus on an aspect that has received less attention despite its growing prevalence—EU regulations with ambitions to diminish social inequality to encourage social convergence among Member States. Since the Juncker Commission, the European Commission has become increasingly active in pursuing this aspect of Social Europe. Thus, understanding parties' positions on this aspect of Social Europe has become more important. However, current literature lacks measures of national party stances towards Social Europe, and explanations for these stances. Here, I use data from the Chapel Hill Expert Survey (2006, 2009, 2014 and 2019) to develop an indirect measure of party positions on Social Europe. Leveraging studies in party politics and EU politics, I propose that party families and national economic conditions may affect parties' positions on Social Europe. The analyses suggest substantial variation in parties' positions on Social Europe both within and across party families. The analyses also demonstrate that socialist and green parties support Social Europe most, whereas radical right parties support it least. Lastly, I do not find systematic evidence that national economic conditions influence parties' support for this aspect of Social Europe.

Exploring the potential role of decentralised biogas plants in meeting energy needs in sub-Saharan African countries: a techno-economic systems analysis

To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, low-income sub-Saharan African countries urgently need to electrify. Biogas production from anaerobic digestion could make a contribution to a solution to improved electricity generation and access in these regions. This study evaluates its feasibility using Malawi as a case study. The aim is to provide households with a continuous supply of gas for cooking and electricity. The study examines different sizes of fixed dome reactors (3, 6, 12 m3) and assumes individual household ownership of 2, 4, and 6 cows. Several feedstocks and conditions are considered, such as cow dung alone, co-generation of cow dung with human faeces, cow dung with grass, and cow dung with maize residue. The economic benefits of selling biogas and fertilisers are calculated, and the cost of construction for different sizes of reactors is determined. Results show that co-generation of cow dung and grass silage in the reactor of 12 m3 with six cows has a positive net present value (NPV) of $8962, while for a small farm with a 6 m3 reactor capacity, co-digestion of cow dung with maize residue is preferable. The feasibility of the technology depends heavily on current national economic conditions, such as inflation, electricity prices, and construction material costs. A sensitivity analysis estimated that a 25% increase in the cost of electricity could increase the net present value (NPV) from − $3345 to $1526 for the generation of biogas from cow dung alone. Overall, this technology could have a significant impact on the lives of low-income households in sub-Saharan Africa by improving their access to electricity and providing a source of income through the sale of biogas and digestate.

The article examines the concepts of “economic securityˮ, “external threats to economic securityˮ, and “internal threats to economic securityˮ. Economic security is defined as the achievement of a state of the national economy that ensures economic development, effective control over the use of resources, and protection of economic interests at the international and domestic levels. The main functional components of economic security are defined as economic independence, sustainability and stability of the national economy, and the ability for self-development and progress. The components of economic security are considered in this study. These include internal economic security (demographic security; food security; raw material security; innovation and technological security; financial security; investment security; energy security; environmental security; information security; military security) and external economic security (export security; import security; security in the field of international capital movement; security in the process of international labour migration). The study encompassed the examination of economic security-related objects (state, separate territorial formations, citizens, enterprises, organisations, institutions, and entrepreneurs) and subjects (central and local bodies of executive power, state enterprises). The potential negative impact on national economic interests (state, society, individual), conditions and mechanisms for the implementation of external and internal factors of threats to economic security have been investigated. The principal external and internal factors that pose a threat to the economic security of Ukraine are identified. These factors are in a state of constant flux due to the evolution of the global economy, society and the national economy. A number of indicators have been proposed for the purpose of assessing the level of economic security of the state. These include key aspects such as the state of the national economy, the development of scientific and technological progress, the countering of external and internal threats, and foreign economic activity. A comprehensive assessment was conducted with respect to the degree of economic security currently prevailing in Ukraine. The assessment indicated a notable lack of efficiency within the economic realm and identified a series of risks that may potentially impede the growth of the national economy in the future. The primary means of ensuring Ukraineʼs economic security are proposed, namely a system of legal, organisational and economic measures designed to prevent external and internal economic threats.

Using Linear Regressions Analyzing the Impact of Medical Technology Inputs on Economic Output in China and Brazil

In the current era of globalization, the relationship between healthcare investments and economic outcomes has emerged as a pivotal research focus. Researchers have made significant strides in understanding this relationship; however, certain knowledge gaps and disparities in explanations persist. This underscores the importance of investigating the impact of healthcare investments on economic outcomes, particularly in the contexts of two distinct yet influential developing countries, China and Brazil. This study delves into the intricate interplay between healthcare investments and economic outcomes in China and Brazil. Using a comprehensive dataset from the World Health Organization (WHO), including capital health expenditures, domestic government health expenditures, and more. Then we employ the linear regression analysis in tandem with these indicators to investigate the relationship between them and economic output. This research also considers non-data-based variables, such as policies and national economic conditions, to ensure the accuracy of our findings. Our findings reveal that healthcare expenditures, particularly Government General Healthcare Expenditure (GGHE-D) and External Health Expenditure (EXT), significantly impact China's GDP growth. In contrast, Brazil exhibits a distinct pattern, with GGHE-D negatively impacting its economic output while Transfers from Government Domestic Revenue (TransGDR) that allocated to health contribute positively. These distinctions highlight the diverse effects of healthcare spending on the economies of the two nations. In conclusion, this research underscores the need for tailored healthcare policies in the context of economic structures and the significance of evidence-based decision-making. It also highlights the potential of international cooperation in healthcare to drive GDP growth and healthcare innovation.

Investment Decision-Making Behavior in the Era of Covid-19: An Analysis on the Basis of Mental Accounting, Loss Aversion Bias, and Risk Tolerance

Abstract The era of Covid-19 is a condition that illustrates the uncertainty of national and world economic conditions, which encourages individuals to be able to manage their economy and finances. Therefore, this research aims to explain whether mental accounting, loss aversion bias, as well as risk tolerance can affect investment decision-making in the Covid-19 situation from the point of view of behavioral finance theory. The results of research using SEM PLS analysis show that Mental Accounting, Loss Aversion Bias, as well as Risk Tolerance, have an effect on investment decision-making. Based on behavioral finance theory, the results of the study illustrate that in the Covid 19 pandemic situation, individuals will generally respond to information received as a basis for making decisions by paying attention to the level of risk and optimizing the rate of return from the investment made.

Economic conditions and health: Local effects, national effect and local area heterogeneity

We study the relationship between health and changing economic conditions in local areas using a GVAR model that allows for dynamic and interdependent responses to local and national economic conditions. We examine quarterly British data for 2002–2016 for 131 local areas, which displays considerable heterogeneity in economic conditions. We find robust evidence that health improves as the local economy (employment) expands, but that it takes over 2 years to realise the full effect. This relationship holds for musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, and mental health conditions. We find considerable response heterogeneity at the local area level with the strongest relationship between changes in economic conditions and health found for areas with more traditional industrial structures.

Cultural Environment Impact on Corporate Management

The swift evolution of China's foreign trade, has introduced a multitude of intricate challenges to its external commerce. National policies, societal norms, economic conditions, and cultural factors exert various degrees of influence over a firm's international operations. Notably, cultural disparities emerge as a significant influence on enterprises' cross-border conduct, particularly in the domain of cross-cultural communication. In sum, an examination of cross-cultural disparities in the business context is crucial for the contemporary globalized economy. By acquiring a nuanced understanding of cultural norms and practices, businesses can devise effective strategies for navigating various cultural contexts, preclude misunderstandings and conflicts, enhance communication, and exploit the advantages of cultural diversity. This study aims to examine Starbucks' internationalization as a representative instance. The intention is to unravel the mechanisms by which varying national cultures and cultural types influence internationalization, while also suggesting appropriate adaptive strategies. By doing so, the research aspires to provide a robust foundation for the creation and execution of China's internationalization strategies. The emphasis is placed on rendering pragmatic and implementable insights to facilitate the global expansion efforts of Chinese enterprises.

Factors Affecting the Performance of the Mutual Fund in Nepal

This study examines macro and micro factors affecting Nepalese mutual fund results. This study used panel data from March 2016 to November 2022 to determine the success factors of Nepal's 16 mutual funds.
 Nepalese mutual funds' irregular performance is due to national economic conditions and individual fund peculiarities. This research analyzes the influence of economic events and fund attributes on the performance of Nepalese mutual funds by using risk-adjusted returns proposed by William Sharpe (1994). This research evaluated how macroeconomic and fund-factor changes affected Nepal's mutual funds.
 The results show a positive relationship between fund age, assets turnover ratio, fund size, and exchange rate. Liquidity is a non-factor in mutual fund performance, but growth in gross domestic product, inflation, interest rates, and the money supply (M2) all harm fund return. Managers of mutual funds are encouraged to follow the recommendations made in this study to keep their portfolios as diversified as possible.

Measuring untapped revenue potential in developing countries: cross-country frontier and panel data analysis

Efforts supporting domestic revenue mobilisation in developing countries are often designed and evaluated based on empirical indicators, such as ratios of revenue to gross domestic product, which capture differences in achieved outcomes across countries. This article studies a complementary approach that also takes into account differences in countries’ fundamental economic structures associated with different capacities to raise revenue, which are not captured by simple ratios of revenue to gross domestic product. Non-parametric data envelopment analysis is applied to estimate domestic revenue potential in a panel of 118 low- and middle-income countries from 2008 to 2019. This approach provides a data-driven measure of how efficient each country is in raising domestic revenue given its national economic conditions. The results indicate that countries’ relative efficiencies do not exhibit the same strongly positive correlation with income levels as typically observed for ratios of revenue to gross domestic product. Instead, countries with low efficiency are spread across all income groups and geographical regions. This suggests that looking solely at ratios of revenue to gross domestic product might be misleading for drawing policy and normative conclusions about how much more revenue a country should aim to raise. Finally, panel regression analysis is used to investigate the extent to which international support is targeted at countries with larger untapped revenue potential.

Structural-hierarchical approach to the investment model of economic growth

The subject of the research is the investment model of economic growth, which in today's Russia is given significant attention at the government level. In a number of scientific studies, investments are interpreted as a significant factor of economic security. In line with this topic, the goal is to form an investment growth model that combines national economic growth goals, investment objectives, growth-driving industries, conditions and regulatory influences into a single structure. The article uses methods and means of structural, economic, causal analysis and predictive statistical estimates. The novelty of the research consists in substantiating and developing an investment model of economic growth in the form of a hierarchical structure that includes five levels: target level, task level, industry, factor and regulatory levels. The possibilities of filling the levels are shown by the example of Russia, taking into account today's sanctions realities. Attention is focused on the manufacturing industry. When filling in the industry level, it is concluded that it is advisable to take into account the index of economic complexity as an additional criterion for identifying industries-locomotives of growth. When filling in the factor level of the model, the dual nature of anti-Russian sanctions is shown, which, along with negative factors, also generate certain business opportunities. When filling out the regulatory level, a number of financial and investment measures are allocated (subsidizing investment projects, state support for loans, tax incentives) that are in demand by Russian business under sanctions. In terms of the country's technological security, industries are cited where dependence on imported components is particularly critical. Priority financial and investment support should be directed to overcoming critical dependence. The results obtained can be useful for information and analytical support of industrial policy. The proposed approach to the investment model of growth will help to streamline the basic components of decision-making within a single structure, taking into account cause-and-effect relationships and sanctions realities.

Fiscal Sustainability and Risks of Provincial Government After Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the world since the year 2019 puts fiscal pressure on the Governments of Indonesia. The Government of Indonesia has spent very big expenses to deal with the pandemic and recovery the national economic conditions. This condition will increase a fiscal risk level to achieve Gold Indonesia Vision of the year 2045. This article aims to assess the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic to fiscal sustainability of the central and provincial governments in Indonesia and identify the risks faced by the central and provicial governments after this outbreak. By using quantitative descriptive analysis and focus group discussion, it was identified an increase in the level of fiscal vulnerability in the central and provincial governments in Indonesia. The results of an analysis for the provincial government level conclude that provincial governments throughout Indonesia are under pressure on their fiscal sustainability. This is reflected in the decline in the Tax ratio, the increase in Debt to Income, and the increase in the budget deficit. This encourages the emergence of new risks that can interfere with efforts to achieve development goals. Several fiscal policies need to be taken to maintain fiscal sustainability like intensification and extensification of taxes and improving the quality of regional spending.

Beliefs, economics, and spatial regimes in voting behavior: the Turkish case, 2007–2018

The Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, AKP) came to power in 2002, and since then has never received <34% of nationwide voter support in Turkish general elections. Recent research focuses on the Economic Voting Theorem (EVT), specifically the varieties of pocketbook or sociotropic voting, as the primary explanation for the AKP’s successive electoral victories. However, this approach fails to adequately explain the ongoing electoral support for the AKP at both national and local levels, even under poor economic performance. It also fails to consider the impact of the spatial components of peripheral sociologies. This study employs the comparative method with EVT and Center–Periphery (C–P) phenomena in order to understand the dominant characteristics of voting behavior from a spatial perspective. Although EVT and C–P explanations take part in the literature, a limited number of studies measure and visualize the impact of those from a spatial perspective. In order to distinguish between the effects of EVT and C–P the study utilizes an original data set that measures different socio-economic factors such as per capita growth, unemployment, inflation, education, age, religious conservatism, ethnicity, and space both at the national and local levels. The results, contrary to expectations, show that the main drivers of voting behavior for the AKP consist of a mix of both C–P and EVT while C–P factors have a greater impact. In comparison to the EVT, C–P features such as religious conservatism and ethnicity perform better as predictors of the AKP’s electoral performance than the national and local economic conditions. Also, spatial results imply that support for the AKP has different spatial regimes based on ethnic identity and there are no spatial spillovers between spatial regimes in terms of voting behavior.

National Economic Conditions May Impact the Financial Barriers to Travel for Cancer Operations.

Better cancer-related outcomes are associated with physicians and hospitals with higher case volume. This serves as an incentive to refer patients requiring complex cancer operations to large referral centers, which may require increased travel for patients. However, barriers exist for patients to travel for cancer care, some of which may be aggravated or alleviated by factors relating to the health of the national economy. This impact may be reflected in variability of travel distances for cancer operations over time particularly for complex operation such as pancreatectomy and esophagectomy compared with less complex resections such as those for breast cancer or melanoma. We obtained the estimated travel distance for patients undergoing operations for cancer of the pancreas, esophagus, skin (melanoma), and breast from the National Cancer Database from 2004 to 2017 and correlated them with economic factors obtained from public sources. We then examined the impact of unemployment rates, gas prices, and inflation on travel distances regarding disadvantaged groups. Correlations were measured by the (rank-based, nonparametric) Spearman's correlation coefficient, and the corresponding P value is obtained by the asymptotic distribution of the coefficient. A P value of 0.05 equates to an absolute correlation value of 0.532. To adjust for multiple tests, a more restrictive P value of 0.01 was also assessed, which equates to correlation coefficients of absolute value greater than 0.661. There were 4,222,380 cases in the dataset, of which 1,781,056 remained after exclusion. The economic factors that were associated most strongly with the distance patients traveled for all cancer operation types were the labor force participation rate, personal savings, consumer price index, and changes in gasoline prices. Inflation and rising gasoline prices were often inversely related with travel distance in lower-income and less well-educated regions and African American patients. Several macroeconomic factors correlate with the travel distance for operations, suggesting that the economic health of the nation may aggravate or alleviate the financial barriers to travel for cancer operations. Financially disadvantaged groups may be particularly vulnerable to changes in gasoline prices and inflation. Organizations serving these populations may need to increase patient support services during times of economic hardship to avoid the exacerbation of health care disparities.

Exploring austerity and planning reforms: insight from UK stakeholders

This paper explores the extent to which UK planning system reforms introduced during austerity affected the expectations, purposes and outcomes for and of planning. The perspectives of UK-wide planning system stakeholders were sought and collected through an extensive questionnaire. The findings indicate that though most reforms were welcomed in principle, the anticipated benefits had not been delivered. Instead, a loss of experienced staff and capacity, and the favouring of a neoliberal ideology that inadvertently constrained the purposes and delivery of the reforms, affecting in turn, planning's evolving raison d’être, occurred. With frequent mentioning of austerity as a needed tool for financial management, given the current national economic conditions—for example, in the UK (living cost crisis, post-Covid need for economic growth, public funding of facilities), the relevance of this paper is in warning about the risks of planning reforms, which must now be more precautionary and evidence driven during austerity.

STRATEGY OF THE MINISTRY OF ECONOMIC COORDINATOR IN THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC RECOVERY EFFORT DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Global inflation due to rising food and energy prices and supply-demand imbalances. This has become the world's concern, especially Indonesia, in formulating policy strategies when the conditions before and after the Covid-19 pandemic affected the national economy and threatened non-military defense. The problems studied aim to determine National Economic Conditions Before &amp; After the Covid-19 Pandemic and the Strategy of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in efforts to Restore the National Economy. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with miles and huberman qualitative analysis techniques. The research results show that economic conditions at the time of the 2020 pandemic showed a significant decline due to the cessation of various economic activities as a result of the COVID19 pandemic. National Economic Conditions After the Covid-19 Pandemic that started in 2022, the global economy is showing recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic even though it was temporarily halted by the Omicron wave. This recovery is in line with the increasing implementation of global vaccinations, the increasing capacity of the health service system, and the opening up of economic activities in various countries. The results of the research and conclusions show that the National Economic Recovery Strategy is carried out through aspects (Ends), namely the long-term goal of the National Economic Recovery Strategy is to maintain price stability and increase food security to support people's purchasing power and national economic recovery, as well as increase Labor Absorption, In Aspects (Ways), namely the ways taken to achieve the long-term National Economic Recovery Strategy, namely Easing Community Mobility in line with Covid-19 control which leads to controlled Covid cases through the PPKM Policy and Setting travel requirements policies, Fiscal Policy as a Shock Absorber, etc. In Aspects (Means), namely the means used to achieve the long-term National Economic Recovery Strategy, namely: APBN as a Shock Absorber

Perhaps a dream is resurrected. “A Missed Opportunity in the Catholic War on Poverty: Chicago's Archdiocesan Inter-Parish Movement” by Kevin Ryan offers an analysis of a failed effort in the 1960s to bring together poor inner-city parishes and affluent city and suburban ones in a movement to learn from each other while fighting poverty and racism.But, Ryan notes, the effort came at one of the worst periods of racial tension in the city's history, as white ethnic neighborhoods sometimes reacted violently to the movement of Black citizens into their enclaves. The program's goal was to put teeth into the Catholic War on Poverty by allowing the poor and affluent parishes to work together on the challenges of income inequality and race. Sadly, these challenges remain, confounding our relations with one another.Daniel Garrison Brinton lived through a challenging time in Illinois a century before Chicago's racial crisis. Application of Big Data in Stock Market based on Capital Asset Pricing Model

This text aims to discuss the application value of the capital asset pricing model in real life. In this case, the stock price performance of Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips from September 2019 to June 2022 was analyzed by calculating the expected earnings of the two stocks and comparing the expected value to the real value. The outcome turns out that the calculated value showed a big deviation, which leads to the conclusion that the CAPM model theoretically can predict the expected earnings of stocks. However, this can be obtained from our calculation results, but affect the stock price factors, war, national economic conditions, macro policy, and so on, it requires a long time of large deviation to make this conclusion confidence, so the CAPM model cannot predict the expected earnings of stocks in the short term

This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of Inventory Intensity, Capital Intensity, Sales Growth and the Audit Committee on Tax Aggressiveness during the Pandemic in Indonesia and Malaysia and to determine the level of corporate tax aggressiveness that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic in both countries with an observation period. is from 2019 to 2020. The population in this study is a Manufacturing company in the Consumer Goods Industry sector with a Pharmaceutical Sub-Sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2019-2020 period which operates 9 companies, and also a Health Care Sector company with a Pharmaceuticals Sub-Sector listed on the Malaysia Stock Exchange during the 2019 period. - 2020 which re-opens 6 companies. The sampling technique used in this study is the saturated sample.&#x0D; Simultaneously, Inventory Intensity, Capital Intensity, Sales Growth, and the Audit Committee have no effect on Tax Aggressiveness both in Indonesia and Malaysia before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, because tax aggressiveness is carried out by the company in accordance with the company's management planning, not because it is based on national economic conditions. Partially, Inventory Intensity, Capital Intensity, Sales Growth, Audit Committee have no effect on Tax Aggressiveness for the companies studied on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, while in Bursa Malaysia Inventory Intensity has no effect on Tax Aggressiveness, for Capital Intensity, Sales Growth, the Audit Committee has no effect on Tax Aggressiveness
